It is really long, Not a bad book though。 You have to have a love for reading if you want to get through it。

It took me a month to read this whopper of a book。 But this version is all three books in one。 To get through it quicker, I read the book but also listened to the audio on school runs etc。To be honest, I actually preferred to read the book as I absorbed more of the story。 I enjoyed the first part, The Fellowship of the Rings。 I loved Frodo and learning about the Shire。 Reading the second part, The Two Towers, I found slightly boring, and when listening to the audio I found my mind wondering off。 It took me a month to read this whopper of a book。 But this version is all three books in one。 To get through it quicker, I read the book but also listened to the audio on school runs etc。To be honest, I actually preferred to read the book as I absorbed more of the story。 I enjoyed the first part, The Fellowship of the Rings。 I loved Frodo and learning about the Shire。 Reading the second part, The Two Towers, I found slightly boring, and when listening to the audio I found my mind wondering off。 It picked up after we got back to the hobbits and the last of this part was fab。 The third and final part, The Return of the King, was better then the second, but not so good as the first。Overall an ok read, but did find it a slog and a bit of a chore。 Unpopular opinion but 3 out of 5 stars for me。 。。。more

A fantastic book with so much more detail than the subsequent movies (which were also good)。

Is it even necessary to write a review for Lord of the Rings? Everybody knows how good it is。 It is arguably the most important book in my beloved fantasy genre and for and lot of people it's still their favorite fantasy series。I'm not one of those people, but I could still sign LOTR's praise for hours。 I don't love the way some parts of the series are structured, especially in the Return of the King, I also wouldn't put this series to my TOP 5 and I even probably enjoyed the movies little bit m Is it even necessary to write a review for Lord of the Rings? A classic。 But a lot of walking and a lot of time spent describing the surroundings。 Brilliant story, but I do sometimes struggle with the story telling。

An epic journey for the reader in the tale of Frodo' s Journey to rid the third world of the evilSauron and the ninth ring。 Many parts to the tale All well told。 Certainly a must read especially for fantasy readers and book tubers who focus on fantasy。 Brandon Sanders on notwithstanding An epic journey for the reader in the tale of Frodo' s Journey to rid the third world of the evilSauron and the ninth ring。 Many parts to the tale All well told。 Certainly a must read especially for fantasy readers and book tubers who focus on fantasy。 Brandon Sanders on notwithstanding 。。。more

Tapos ko nang basahin ang 50th anniversary one-volume edition ng The Lord of the Rings! My first read for 2021! The Lord of the Rings! Bromance! Tsong, pare, dude! No homo! Charot! Hahaha! Hahaha! 。。。more

Finally。 Having read this makes me feel so much better about so many things。 From understanding why Led Zep was so enchanted about this book and wrote more than one song on it and why even now it is one of the best books to read specially when it comes to story telling and creating a whole new world for the readers to construct it in their mind with thousands of amazing characters to gives faces and voices to。 Reading this book is an experience everyone needs to have。

I have been reading The Lord of the Rings every few years since I was a teenager, and it never fails to please me anew。 As somewhat of a student of LOTR and Tolkein, I always find something new to appreciate。 Having read The Silmarillion just a few years ago after a long hiatus, this time I keyed into the previous ages of Middle Earth, and the stories of the Valar and the Numenorians。 Reading LOTR is so much richer if you know the background story, for sure。 Anyway, Aragorn continues to be kingl I have been reading The Lord of the Rings every few years since I was a teenager, and it never fails to please me anew。 As somewhat of a student of LOTR and Tolkein, I always find something new to appreciate。 Having read The Silmarillion just a few years ago after a long hiatus, this time I keyed into the previous ages of Middle Earth, and the stories of the Valar and the Numenorians。 Reading LOTR is so much richer if you know the background story, for sure。 Anyway, Aragorn continues to be kingly, Galadrial continues to be bad ass, Treebeard and Bombadil continue to be the intriguing ancients and Sam continues to be my favorite hobbit。 All is well with the world。 。。。more

I grew up in a family where Lord of the Rings and Ender's Game featured in road trip discussions, discussing Messianic figures, ethics, blah blah blah。 Obviously I was the only one who didn't read those books until adulthood so I would stare out the window and not participate in the passionate discussion。 My immediate and extended family discusses and converses to the point of pathology (to my husband's dismay), but since he knew that before he married me, I am not as sympathetic as perhaps I grew up in a family where Lord of the Rings and Ender's Game featured in road trip discussions, discussing Messianic figures, ethics, blah blah blah。 Obviously I was the only one who didn't read those books until adulthood so I would stare out the window and not participate in the passionate discussion。 My immediate and extended family discusses and converses to the point of pathology (to my husband's dismay), but since he knew that before he married me, I am not as sympathetic as perhaps I should be。Was I not a reader? Why did I not read these books that ranked almost as high as holy writ in my family? Well, I was a reader, and while I read The Hobbit and it is one of my favorite books of all time (I recently procured a portable copy to put in my 72-hour kit。 If I am stuck at a community shelter with no phone charger I will have something to read to myself / my kids), I was a very independent reader and I liked to tell my family that "a copy was never available。" Perhaps that's true, but I think it was the classic rebelliousness of youth--don't tell me what to read! Finally, in college, my younger brother decided to take charge of my sci-fi / fantasy education。 To be fair, I had read quite a bit of fantasy ( The Princess Bride and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) and some science fiction。 As a pre-teen I had read The Tripods Trilogy, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Jurassic Park。 I know I read some Ray Bradbury short stories。 And then, of course, in high school I had to read a dystopian novel ( Brave New World)。 I mean, I wasn't totally illiterate! But my brother gave me this massive book, Starship Troopers, and Ender's Game。 He evangelized Dune and I actually finally got a copy (still unfinished) last year。 So, of course, I read Ender's Game first as it was the shortest and didn't have soldiers on the cover。 And I got through the Fellowship of the Ring fairly quickly, but the second book with the riders of Rohan--I just struggled to get engaged when I wanted the same characters。 My father actually read many of those first chapters to me in an effort to get me engaged (he has a beautiful rich bass voice)。 But it was only after I graduated from college and found myself commuting by plane for work (before smart phones and plane WI-FI。 I'm old) with nothing to do on a plane for hours every week but read that I would have the time and attention for LOTR。First, I read Dickens。 I also (finally) read the Old Testament (Aside from some obvious clerical errors, better than I expected!)。 I read David McCullough's John Adams and Tolstoy's Anna Karenina。 And, yes, eventually I brought along this copy and read The Lord of the Rings。 It was the right time and it was beautiful。 So I am not giving full marks because it took several attempts for me to really read it。 But perhaps when I re-read it one day I will come back to give that 5th star or maybe I will never give it because I love The Hobbit more and think it's better。 But this is still a great epic and I am glad my brother pushed me to read it。Of course since then I have read more Science Fiction and Fantasy so I have my own recommendations besides those listed above:- almost anything by Ursula K。 Le Guin- The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories by Ken LiuI have Philip K。 Dick and Arthur C。 Clarke on my list and more Ray Bradbury。 I've read a little Connie Willis, too。 Science Fiction is definitely not my favorite genre though I don't dislike it, so if you have recommendations, by all means, share! 。。。more
