Summary

The Last Emperox is the thrilling conclusion to the award-winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling Interdependency series, an epic space opera adventure from Hugo Award-winning author John Scalzi。

The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated。 Entire star systems—and billions of people—are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization。 This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction 。 。 。 and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known。

Emperox Grayland II has finally wrested control of her empire from those who oppose her and who deny the reality of this collapse。 But “control” is a slippery thing, and even as Grayland strives to save as many of her people form impoverished isolation, the forces opposing her rule will make a final, desperate push to topple her from her throne and power, by any means necessary。 Grayland and her thinning list of allies must use every tool at their disposal to save themselves, and all of humanity。 And yet it may not be enough。

Will Grayland become the savior of her civilization 。 。 。 or the last emperox to wear the crown?

Long live the Emperox!I always enjoy the characters Scalzi creates。 They do not fit the archetypes or tropes you expect, and are usually refreshingly irreverent。 I will admit to being disappointed in the ending; I was hoping for a happier outcome for the protagonists, but that is the hopeless romantic in me I suppose。 Plus, it goes back to the whole irreverence trait of the author I mentioned earlier。

So, I'm conflicted。 9/10 of this book was amazing。 Really great characters。 Great dialogue。 Some great action and suspense。 And some great revenge。 I love the set up of the Interdependecy and the setup of the flow streams。 The discussion of what would happen in a societal collapse is also on point。 The theoretical physics is compelling too。 I love the discussion that Cardenia and March have about simplifying the physics down to lay person level。 But the ending comes on so abrupt that I feel like So, I'm conflicted。 9/10 of this book was amazing。 Really great characters。 Great dialogue。 Some great action and suspense。 And some great revenge。 I love the set up of the Interdependecy and the setup of the flow streams。 The discussion of what would happen in a societal collapse is also on point。 The theoretical physics is compelling too。 I love the discussion that Cardenia and March have about simplifying the physics down to lay person level。 But the ending comes on so abrupt that I feel like I was let down。 I know that closure in a story is not always necessary, but I feel like that's where this story was heading。 And then never got there。 The end is so open that all I can see is another series。 Which is fine。 I feel like some of the side plots took over when there were more important science-y things going on。 All of that talk about Resonators and the Rupture could have been expanded on。 And what about End? That part was wrapped up in the Epilogue。 Great story, but I wanted more。 Still worth the read。 。。。more

Divertido e leitura fácil。 A trama é meio previsível。 Termina com gancho para continuação

Excellent ending to the series, very satisfying (and a little sad)

A well done and highly entertaining trilogy。 Again, a quick read and well-paced book with unexpected twists and turns。 If you read the first two, definitely finish it off with this one。 Similar to the first two books, some language and sensuality as is now expected, but to a lesser degree。 My only real complaint is the epilogue was far too short! I want to know more about the lives of the “winning” characters。 Perhaps a second trilogy will be written?

Not much to write for this one: a fitting end to a fun series。 Lots of good jokes。 page-turner really :-) Recomended。 Don't look for deep depth。BUT: I do tend to read the acknowledgements。 Oh my Scalzi, you thought 2019 was hard。 I cannot for the live of me remember what bad things happened in that golden era of 2019。 I hope John didn't have a deadline this year。3。5 stars。 Not much to write for this one: a fitting end to a fun series。 Lots of good jokes。 page-turner really :-) Recomended。 Don't look for deep depth。BUT: I do tend to read the acknowledgements。 Oh my Scalzi, you thought 2019 was hard。 I cannot for the live of me remember what bad things happened in that golden era of 2019。 I hope John didn't have a deadline this year。3。5 stars。 。。。more

A absolutely great book to finish this three book series ! Scalzi is just such a fine writer ! Highly recommend this series ! The type of book you just can't put down ! A good last instalment to the trilogy - and I have to say that as a forgetful person who had read parts 1 and 2 ages ago, I appreciated the well-done and funny recap at the start here :DI would've wanted more emotional denouement, really (although realise that's not really Scalzi's style), and really wish one thing hadn't happened, but overall this was a satisfying conclusion。 A good last instalment to the trilogy - and I have to say that as a forgetful person who had read parts 1 and 2 ages ago, I appreciated the well-done and funny recap at the start here :DI would've wanted more emotional denouement, really (although realise that's not really Scalzi's style), and really wish one thing hadn't happened, but overall this was a satisfying conclusion。 。。。more

3 & 1/2 stars rounded up。 The least satisfying entry in this trilogy。 As usual。 very competent prose, plot and pacing No new nuance to the world building from the previous books。 I think the strength of the book is the character development and the use of some really "kick ass" female characters。 The political intrigue was well done, but Ian McDonald has done it better with his Luna series。 I am ambivalent about the ending。 I think the launch of the series may have been a little too ambitious gi 3 & 1/2 stars rounded up。 The least satisfying entry in this trilogy。 As usual。 very competent prose, plot and pacing No new nuance to the world building from the previous books。 I think the strength of the book is the character development and the use of some really "kick ass" female characters。 The political intrigue was well done, but Ian McDonald has done it better with his Luna series。 I am ambivalent about the ending。 I think the launch of the series may have been a little too ambitious given the end result。 And, I have to say, I am a sucker for happier endings。 Still, a very worthwhile read。 。。。more

A bit forced as it wraps up all the hanging plotlines。

Compulsively readable and very funny, like everything Scalzi writes, but I was disappointed with this conclusion to an absolutely great series。 He totally abandons a lot of the complex and fascinating themes he was exploring and cuts the Gordian knot he created with a literal deus ex machina。 It was unsatisfying。 I will definitely revisit this in the future since the first two are so great, and this one is really fun, but it's definitely something of a let-down。 Compulsively readable and very funny, like everything Scalzi writes, but I was disappointed with this conclusion to an absolutely great series。 He totally abandons a lot of the complex and fascinating themes he was exploring and cuts the Gordian knot he created with a literal deus ex machina。 It was unsatisfying。 I will definitely revisit this in the future since the first two are so great, and this one is really fun, but it's definitely something of a let-down。 。。。more

I’ll be the first to admit, it went by fast AF, but it was certainly satisfactory。 Add to that the insanely accurate allegory of our times and I could hardly put it down。 Happy to have picked up the series in the first place, definitely going back to see what else happens in the Old Man’s War universe after this。

Great end to this series。 Hopeful John writes some more in this books universe in the future!

I picked up "The Last Emperox" by John Scalzi at my local library and was not disappointed。 It was my first "Space Opera" I've read。 The book is also the third installment of a three part series。 It centers around two parallel dramas/crises。 The Interdependency is collapsing because the "Flow" which is a network that connects different worlds together is dying after a thousand plus years。 Billions of lives are at stake with the disappearance of the Flow。 Scientist Marce is trying desperately to I picked up "The Last Emperox" by John Scalzi at my local library and was not disappointed。 It was my first "Space Opera" I've read。 The book is also the third installment of a three part series。 It centers around two parallel dramas/crises。 The Interdependency is collapsing because the "Flow" which is a network that connects different worlds together is dying after a thousand plus years。 Billions of lives are at stake with the disappearance of the Flow。 Scientist Marce is trying desperately to find a solution to save the citizens of these worlds with his lover/Emperox, Grayland II, but internal strife derails their relationship until finally Grayland II is assassinated by revivals for the throne。I thought the ending really saved the book and was satisfied by bittersweet death of Grayland II and the imprisonment of Nadashe and her family。 I thought this book had some weaknesses and actually could have had more depth or a longer more elaborate plot。 Perhaps because I have not read the first two I don't have what I need to fully appreciate "The Last Emperox"。 。。。more

There was a lot of potential for the trilogy, but it felt like a lot of the interesting points were glossed over or not even covered。 The trilogy just didn't finish out very strong, almost like it was rushed at the end without any deep thought。 There was a lot of potential for the trilogy, but it felt like a lot of the interesting points were glossed over or not even covered。 The trilogy just didn't finish out very strong, almost like it was rushed at the end without any deep thought。 。。。more

Something about this third book was profoundly unsatisfying。 Scalzi is a fun writer to read and he has a snappy style, but between the pace and the path of this final piece of the story, I did not feel like my investment was well-spent。 I needed something better to happen to lots of the characters (and not necessarily that they would live!)。 The ultimate solution making the worlds of the Interdependency self-sufficient seemed like a throw-away。 Not developed enough to show up at the end, as woul Something about this third book was profoundly unsatisfying。 Scalzi is a fun writer to read and he has a snappy style, but between the pace and the path of this final piece of the story, I did not feel like my investment was well-spent。 I needed something better to happen to lots of the characters (and not necessarily that they would live!)。 The ultimate solution making the worlds of the Interdependency self-sufficient seemed like a throw-away。 Not developed enough to show up at the end, as wouldn't this be the thing you'd suggest within 5 minutes of brainstorming, when you first discovered the problem? The ending was abrupt。 Character development did not seem plausible。 Even for fiction the story line did not seem reasonable。The acknowledgements began with a political statement, unrelated to the book or its development process。

It was hard to follow3。5 STARS:It may be the gaps in time between books, but I found this harder to follow than most other Scalzi series。 The characters were enjoyable enough and the science fiction believable, but this was more a battle of whit and words vs action and so perhaps that is what failed to grasp me

This book spent way too many pages recapping books #1 and #2 of the series。 Come on, if you're reading the final installment of a trilogy, you already know what happened earlier。That said, I still liked the plot and the way it wrapped up。 This book spent way too many pages recapping books #1 and #2 of the series。 Come on, if you're reading the final installment of a trilogy, you already know what happened earlier。That said, I still liked the plot and the way it wrapped up。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book as well, but perhaps slightly less than the first 2。 Still a good book, but it didn't quite do justice to the over-all concept that had been developed in the first 2 books。 I enjoyed this book as well, but perhaps slightly less than the first 2。 Still a good book, but it didn't quite do justice to the over-all concept that had been developed in the first 2 books。 。。。more
