Strong 3。5。I thought this was pretty good, although it's been a while since I read it, and I have a hard time remembering any actual story beats that I thought were really good。 The entire premise is amazing, though, and I really do love Doom vs Richards on a god-like scale, but besides interesting ideas like the legion of Thors and the countries with their respective leaders to run them, I thought the whole thing felt a little obvious。 I was never not sure where it was going and often felt like Strong 3。5。I thought this was pretty good, although it's been a while since I read it, and I have a hard time remembering any actual story beats that I thought were really good。 The entire premise is amazing, though, and I really do love Doom vs Richards on a god-like scale, but besides interesting ideas like the legion of Thors and the countries with their respective leaders to run them, I thought the whole thing felt a little obvious。 I was never not sure where it was going and often felt like it was dragging the story out, while also feeling like it didn't explore the premise fully。Although the interior was god damn jaw dropping。 I haven't poured over pages like this since I read Kingdom Come the first time。 Although the life-like figures aren't quite on par with Alex Ross, the environments feel etheric so instead of grounding the story like Ross it pulls it into the magical cosmos of the marvel universe。 The tone is perfect, the premise is impeccable but sadly the story isn't quite on par for me。 3。5 is probably a little low, but I think expectations and hype has skewed my expectations a bit。 Still solid and still a must read for F4 or general marvel fans。 。。。more

Secret Wars is one the best examples of how great comics are and especially how great Jonathan Hickman's comics are。 Following the events of Jonathan Hickman's run on the Fantastic Four, the series Secret Wars acts as a conclusion to his Fantastic Four comics in addition to being a soft reboot to the marvel universe。 Jonathan Hickman's skills as a comic writer shine in this series as he not only refers to his own comic run on Fantastic Four but also the events of many other comic creator's comic Secret Wars is one the best examples of how great comics are and especially how great Jonathan Hickman's comics are。 Following the events of Jonathan Hickman's run on the Fantastic Four, the series Secret Wars acts as a conclusion to his Fantastic Four comics in addition to being a soft reboot to the marvel universe。 Jonathan Hickman's skills as a comic writer shine in this series as he not only refers to his own comic run on Fantastic Four but also the events of many other comic creator's comics in the MCU making the for long seemingly separate comic series come together under one continuity。 。。。more

With the huge canvas Hickman had to play with, this ends up feeling like a lost opportunity。 It’s a mammoth storyline, crammed full of crowd pleasing heroes and villains, but many are ultimately either underused or just window dressing for the main plot。 Dr。 Doom, the central villain/ anti-hero, is surprisingly bland and reactive to events, very un-Doom like。There are some good parts, some nice set pieces especially, and some characters have a nice moment here and there, but it’s quite hard to i With the huge canvas Hickman had to play with, this ends up feeling like a lost opportunity。 It’s a mammoth storyline, crammed full of crowd pleasing heroes and villains, but many are ultimately either underused or just window dressing for the main plot。 Dr。 Doom, the central villain/ anti-hero, is surprisingly bland and reactive to events, very un-Doom like。There are some good parts, some nice set pieces especially, and some characters have a nice moment here and there, but it’s quite hard to isolate the nice melodies ( when they play) from the background static。If Marvel has put as much effort into the book as they did with the 600 alternate covers, a sure sign of a cash grab, this would have been huge。As it is, it’s great to look at ( lovely Ribic art) but never quite the game changer it wants to be。 。。。more

This one was a bit of a mess。 It seemed like an attempt at being artsy and philosophical while essentially just being a front for a necessary ret-con of the Marcel universe。 They had gotten so off track and things had to be reset in order to not have massive plot holes so they wrote this event piece。 Disappointing and not hugely engaging。

Did I understand everything in this comic? no。 Did I still manage to enjoy it with the help of google? yes。I think I'll need to reread it later on when I've read more comics, because I missed LOTS of stuff, but the twists and character developments were really interesting! The artwork was stunning and the storyline incredible。 I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story。 In my opinion one of the best Marvel storylines。

The culmination of what Hickman has been working towards in the Marvel multiverse for years。 There were some individually interesting and cool moments, but the overall plot and story seemed just okay。 Thematically, it seemed disjointed from the "everything dies" narrative that he had been building in Avengers and New Avengers。 The ending was also a bit rushed。 The art is overall good - my one complaint though is that everyone makes the same *shocked Pikachu* face when they're surprised。 The culmination of what Hickman has been working towards in the Marvel multiverse for years。 There were some individually interesting and cool moments, but the overall plot and story seemed just okay。 Thematically, it seemed disjointed from the "everything dies" narrative that he had been building in Avengers and New Avengers。 The ending was also a bit rushed。 The art is overall good - my one complaint though is that everyone makes the same *shocked Pikachu* face when they're surprised。 。。。more

On its own this is nothing amazing。 If you put it in the context of Hickman's larger Avengers run then it goes up a star。 My opinion is Hickman nailed the landing and closed things out quite well, but this needs the broader context of his full run to truly hit。 On its own this is nothing amazing。 If you put it in the context of Hickman's larger Avengers run then it goes up a star。 My opinion is Hickman nailed the landing and closed things out quite well, but this needs the broader context of his full run to truly hit。 。。。more

The end of Hickman's multiverse spanning adventures is big and complicated。 Lots of things happen but at the very core is the relationship between Reed Richards and Victor von Doom。 It's very well done and is very important。 But for all that importance, how much has really changed more than the typical superhero relaunch? Maybe things are changed but it doesn't feel like too much has and that's a bit disappointing。 The end of Hickman's multiverse spanning adventures is big and complicated。 Lots of things happen but at the very core is the relationship between Reed Richards and Victor von Doom。 It's very well done and is very important。 But for all that importance, how much has really changed more than the typical superhero relaunch? I went into this with a BIG OL sigh, as I am not a fan of Marvel's "big events"。 I am also not a big fan of DC's, although at least with Hickman (unlike Morrison) I know what is happening instead of just saying "What the fu%! is going on??" over and over until I hate the sound of my own voice and put the book down (looking at you, Final Crisis)。 But I digress。 Overall, I had a lot of fun with this。 It's not groundbreaking stuff, and I was actually disappointed that there weren't more epic fights I went into this with a BIG OL sigh, as I am not a fan of Marvel's "big events"。 I am also not a big fan of DC's, although at least with Hickman (unlike Morrison) I know what is happening instead of just saying "What the fu%! is going on??" over and over until I hate the sound of my own voice and put the book down (looking at you, Final Crisis)。 But I digress。 Overall, I had a lot of fun with this。 It's not groundbreaking stuff, and I was actually disappointed that there weren't more epic fights, but it kept my attention。 This seems to be a series where the tie-ins would have filled things in a lot more instead of just being a blatant cash grab, but I could be wrong。This felt a lot like Old Man Logan to me, where each province/territory was held by a different villain。 I really liked Doom and Strange's interactions and the story moved along well until a very abrupt ending。If you like big event stuff, you'll probably like this。 I wouldn't buy it, but it was more than worth a library check out。 。。。more

Well, I read this solely because the Russo Brothers would like this to be the next Avengers movie。 They say they will come back and direct if it is this story and only this story。 So I read it。 It’s a complicated story, which, at times was tough to follow。 I understand the appeal of the story but it would take a lot to get it into the MCU largely because it relies on theFantastic Four。 Not that that’s a bad thing but it would take some work。 As it is,I do recommend this graphic novel。

Maybe because I'm a few years late in reading this Graphic Novel, then when it first came out, but I enjoyed Secret Wars。 It was way better than Time Runs Out and some stuff leading up to this event。 There were many Secret Wars tie-ins and I have about 10 of them and some were just okay。 I got/read some of them because I thought they would have some significance on what was going on in Secret Wars, but they don't。 They are just mostly what if story's or show what's going on in this new world tha Maybe because I'm a few years late in reading this Graphic Novel, then when it first came out, but I enjoyed Secret Wars。 It was way better than Time Runs Out and some stuff leading up to this event。 There were many Secret Wars tie-ins and I have about 10 of them and some were just okay。 I got/read some of them because I thought they would have some significance on what was going on in Secret Wars, but they don't。 They are just mostly what if story's or show what's going on in this new world that Doom created。 Some were great and others were bad。 You don't need to read them at all, just this book。 The tie-in books that I liked, and I didn't read a lot of them, were "Amazing Spider-man: Renew your Vows," "A-Force," and "Old Man Logan。" I read some of the other X-men tie-ins but they were just okay。 I am pleased with the outcome of this run。 Not all events end with a way I like。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I decided to go through Hickman’s Avengers run。 There was intrigue of the Illuminati’s approach to saving the universe, and what was at the core of the problem。 I ran into the problem of being underwhelmed throughout only to continue in my journey to get to the end。 Outside of the issue with the pseudo-Justice League, I didn’t really feel much of anything for the characters。 But yet, I read on。Each month, I used my allotment of loans on Hoopla until I finally got to Secret Wars。 I’ll be honest, I decided to go through Hickman’s Avengers run。 There was intrigue of the Illuminati’s approach to saving the universe, and what was at the core of the problem。 I ran into the problem of being underwhelmed throughout only to continue in my journey to get to the end。 Outside of the issue with the pseudo-Justice League, I didn’t really feel much of anything for the characters。 But yet, I read on。Each month, I used my allotment of loans on Hoopla until I finally got to Secret Wars。 I’ll be honest, Hickman almost lost me for good with this one。 He started by diving deep into the story on Battleworld。 Things were happening but I wasn’t invested。 It was completely removed from everything that happened prior (or so I thought)。What we come to find out is the Doom storyline with Molecule Man is the driving seat of this。 When the multiverse was collapsed Doom, Molecule Man and Dr Strange salvaged what they could。 In saving everything Doom took on the power of God and lived amongst his people。The whole story of this Hickman run is about power。 Who has power, and what decisions will they make when they have it? And beyond that is the question of the vision necessary to solve a problem when it presents itself。 Doom was able to salvage the multiverse, but couldn’t see past his own flaws to fix his face, couldn’t give people freedom and had to rule through fear。 Deep down he also carried a fear that forced him to replace Reed Richards。This doesn’t erase Reed’s own involvement in the decisions that brought things here, but over time he learned the error of his ways。 Because of them he was able to solve the problem of creating something new out of what was。 Not to receive control, but to let go。 。。。more

In storytelling, the epic Avengers Endgame, a monument to 10 years of Marvel cinematic production, is a faint echo to 2015-2016's Secret Wars, the crowning capstone to Jonathan Hickman's first tour of duty in the Marvel universe。 It took threads seeded in his Fantastic Four/Future Foundation, S。H。I。E。L。D。, and Avengers runs and brought it to fruition with artist Esad Ribic and his sublime renderings。Granted, one should be familiar with the aforementioned work to truly enjoy it all, but that is t In storytelling, the epic Avengers Endgame, a monument to 10 years of Marvel cinematic production, is a faint echo to 2015-2016's Secret Wars, the crowning capstone to Jonathan Hickman's first tour of duty in the Marvel universe。 It took threads seeded in his Fantastic Four/Future Foundation, S。H。I。E。L。D。, and Avengers runs and brought it to fruition with artist Esad Ribic and his sublime renderings。Granted, one should be familiar with the aforementioned work to truly enjoy it all, but that is the nature of monthly comics, it rewards the faithful。 However, worry not, the internet is your friend。 You have Wikipedia, online reading lists, and sometimes you just need to ask your comic book nerd friend。 You probably have one or two in your circle of friends。 Seek these out and you just might fully enjoy this masterpiece。Full disclosure:+This was a pain to follow when it was serialized as a periodical。 It was barely a periodical because of the release gaps。 It even had a ton of tie-in miniseries。 Now that it's collected as a graphic novel, it's surprisingly tighter and an overall better experience。 。。。more

First of all, I call bullshit on the whole incursions plot。 When this began, they said that if one of the Earths was destroyed, both universes would live。 And they've destroyed lots of Earths, which mean there should be lots of universes still out there。 So to open this with Earth 616 and the Ultimate Universe as the last two universes left doesn't make sense。So Doom takes the power of the Beyonders and assembles Battleworld from bits of alternate earths。 But we don't see most of it。 I know ther First of all, I call bullshit on the whole incursions plot。 When this began, they said that if one of the Earths was destroyed, both universes would live。 And they've destroyed lots of Earths, which mean there should be lots of universes still out there。 So to open this with Earth 616 and the Ultimate Universe as the last two universes left doesn't make sense。So Doom takes the power of the Beyonders and assembles Battleworld from bits of alternate earths。 But we don't see most of it。 I know there's a buttload of crossovers, but it should have been more a part of the main story。Nobody on the battleworld remembers Doom as anything but God (except for Dr。 Strange, who was there when Doom took the Beyonder's power)。 The Illuminati and the Cabal and some other heroes survive in life rafts and they remember the old miltiverse。 And they decide they're going to unseat Doom。 Not for any specific reason, just because he's Doom。 But Doom is the one holding everything together in defiance of the destrucion of the multiverse。 Is there a plan for what happens after? Eventually Reed Richrds comes up with one, but everybody else just wants to fuck some shit up and damn the consequences。There are some moments where the fighting gets pretty epic。 But there's also a lot of standing around and talking。 And there's a lot of taking for granted the way the characters are going to behave, without justifying it within the story。 Honestly, by itself, without reading the million crossovers, this was kind of boring。 。。。more

6/10 starsIn one word - clunky。 Full of interesting ideas which are slowly being killed over the many issues, only to get where we started。 Felt a bit cheated in this hamster wheel, to be honest: it started out great, and then just petered out into another of Richards/Doom brawls (and let's face it, I was never a Fantastic Four fan, even less of the Fantastic Family, let alone that creepy Maker, Richards alter-ego from a parallel universe。 I get it, the "what if Richards was a sociopath" line is 6/10 starsIn one word - clunky。 Full of interesting ideas which are slowly being killed over the many issues, only to get where we started。 Felt a bit cheated in this hamster wheel, to be honest: it started out great, and then just petered out into another of Richards/Doom brawls (and let's face it, I was never a Fantastic Four fan, even less of the Fantastic Family, let alone that creepy Maker, Richards alter-ego from a parallel universe。 I get it, the "what if Richards was a sociopath" line is quite interesting, but here it never gets anywhere)。 One of few cool things was Namor/T'Challa confrontation。I am coming to the realization that Hickman is just not my writer。 Like Starlin, this man's got great ideas, but the execution。。。 let's say it needs a lot of work before it gets on par with the creativity。And of course, the saving grace of this muddy epic is the art。 Ross and Ribic are great as usual, and at least two of the stars above are solely for them。 。。。more
