This graphic novel is a collection of the entire IDW G。I。 Joe: World on Fire series。 It’s a dark and awesome read。 If you loved the GI Joe cartoons and old Marvel comics you will enjoy this。It’s a much darker story than any G。I。 joe story I’ve ever read。 PTSD is a major plot point throughout the entire book。 You will also see many new interpretations of your favorite heroes and villains。Be warned there is a l0t 0f violence and death in this book。 You will see Joes and Cobra characters fall in ba This graphic novel is a collection of the entire IDW G。I。 Joe: World on Fire series。 It’s a dark and awesome read。 If you loved the GI Joe cartoons and old Marvel comics you will enjoy this。It’s a much darker story than any G。I。 joe story I’ve ever read。 PTSD is a major plot point throughout the entire book。 You will also see many new interpretations of your favorite heroes and villains。Be warned there is a l0t 0f violence and death in this book。 You will see Joes and Cobra characters fall in battle。GI Joe World on Fire is so different and much more adult than the old Marvel series of comics。 In this series we see a dystopian world where Cobra has won and G。I。 Joe mounts a heroic resistance to Cobra。As a fan of the GI Joe cartoon and Marvel comics I got such a kick out of seeing new interpretations of my favorite G。I。 joe and Cobra characters。 I also love how the writers revealed some of the old GI Joes throughout the story。I highly recommend reading this story。 This book will give you a better appreciation of what people go through who have PTSD and this is also an incredible war story。Stay awesome and keep reading! 。。。more

I made a live YouTube video to go along with this, if you want to check it out:https://youtu。be/ZUgXPtT6Zr0I was a major fan of the IDW Transformers line, before they rebooted it in 2019。 Between James Roberts More than Meets the eye and John Barber’s Robots in Disguise, The IDW transformer stories were some of the very best the franchise had ever seen。 IDW had done a great job building up the GI mythos at the same time。 GI Joe had one canon between 2008 and 2018, and it included some incredibl I made a live YouTube video to go along with this, if you want to check it out:https://youtu。be/ZUgXPtT6Zr0I was a major fan of the IDW Transformers line, before they rebooted it in 2019。 Between James Roberts More than Meets the eye and John Barber’s Robots in Disguise, The IDW transformer stories were some of the very best the franchise had ever seen。 IDW had done a great job building up the GI mythos at the same time。 GI Joe had one canon between 2008 and 2018, and it included some incredible GI joe stories。 THis included GI Cobra, a four issue Mini-series, written by Chistos Gage and Mike Costa。 It focused on one of the Joes Spies, Chuckles infiltrating Cobra。 This lead to the Cobra Civil War, which for me was the Height of the IDW GI Joe comics。 When Cobra Commander was killed, the main CObra villains each struggle to prove why they should be the next COmmader。 Eventually, GI joe was Folded into the Hasbro Comic book universe, which tied together other Hasbro Properties that IDW was attempting to make popular。 This included M。A。S。K。 ROM the Space Knight and the Micronauts。 The goal was to connect all of these different “Franchises”, I say with Quotation marks to the Transformers Mythology, since Transformers is by far the most popular and well known, and even though not everyone has loved the Transformers live action films, they have been extremely successful。 I was super excited about the idea of a Hasbro Shared universe, since I loved Transformers and GI Joe as a kid, and i fondly remembered MASK。 I was even eager to learn more about the micronauts。 Unfortunately, each of the different franchises were strung together in a very sloppy wa, causing fans to loose interest in every series。 It hurt GI joe the most, which at times was so serious and realistic it could mirror shows like Homeland or The Americans。 All of a sudden you were introducing Ancient Robots that could transform into sports cars into that world, along with creatures that were even more ridiculous。 In 2019 Both the IDW transformer line and the GI Joe line rebooted。 I don’t want to say anything poorly about the current writer of the Transformers line, but my friend Brian and I, both huge transformers fans have lost interest in the IDW comic after the reboot。 I didn’t even bother picking up the Rebooted GI joe book until a month agoAnd I am glad that I did。 Writer Paul Allor has been able to return the book to its more realistic roots。 Looking through Allor’s work on Comixology, you can see that he has worked on multiple liscensed properties including Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, by IDW。 He has also worked on Oxymoron and Scam, both comics put out by Comix Tribe。 You might recognize those titles and labels from the interview I recently did with Writer John Lees and my interview with writer Rich Douek and Artist Alex Cormack This version of GI joe is unlike any previous incarnation, whether it is the Superhero Military warriors that we know from the cartoon we grew up watching, to the Grim and realistic takes we have seen in both the original Marvel comics and the early IDW comics, GI joe has almost always had a Michael Bay feel to it, glorifying the military。 I mean, what do you expect? whether Saturday morning cartoon, Realistic comic or Channing Tatum staring film GI Joe has always been about hero soldiers fighting against a terrorist Force Well, in this version of GI Joe the Terrorist Force won。 Cobra controls most of the world, and the Joes are no longer an army that can hold its own against cobra, they are a resistance force。Cobra controls America so thoroughly in this version of GI Joe, You have to Salute FOR Cobra, when you go to get your groceries。 There is a freaking Cobra COmmander Platter in this universe’s version of Dennys。 The last image in every issue of the book is the cobra symbol along with the line Obey Cobra” Allor worked on Joe Books before the Reboot in 2019 as well。 This time around he is joined by Chris Evenhuis, who I believe is perfectly suited for this new incarnation of GI Joe。Evenhuis has this beautiful, clean style, which is accentuated Brittany Peer’s coloring。 Together they create this sanitized, orderly world, filled with beautiful looking people。 I read the first ten issues of this book, and it is like this throughout, Evenhuis draws these attractive heroes and villains that live in this world of crisp and bright backgrounds。 How do we know it is a horrible world, under a terrible regime?Mainly from the dialogue, and the facial expressions of the characters。 When you listen to my reviews on comics, or even movies, you will know that I will always appreciate a scene that is devoid of dialogue and yet tells us so much about a character, and this book is filled with it。 We know how much the joes are suffering throughout the book based upon the many many dialogue less panels that feature joys either looking utterly broken down and hopeless or wide eyed and shocked about the horrible news they have just received。 This beautiful looking book is about a broken GI Joe and their struggle to take back the world, and I am all for it。 The very best IDW GI joe books I read involved heroes putting themselves in danger, or even sacificing their lives to prevent cobra from gaining power。 Almost always their sacrifice is gone unnoticed by the public。 In this book, you have the same Dynamic but the joes aren’t trying to stop Cobra from Taking over, they are trying to do whatever they can to take a piece of the power back。 The Book feels like an Anthology, or a well written Drama/ action show on FX or Netflix。 Each issue tells a contained story featuring a different joe or Cobra member, while alluding to a Joe victory or a Joe Loss in the background。 It is war, and in some issues, The joes are able to claim a small victory。 In some issues, the Joes are lucky if they are able to get out alive。Highlights for the first ten issues include An issue that focuses on Scarlett, before Cobra’s takeover and how she deals with life outside of the military。 That issue dealt with the consequences of PTSD and in the very back of the issue was a full list of resources for veterans to access, to help them deal with the life back home。 An issue where the Joes travel to a city controlled by the Dreadnocks and attempt to convince the Dreadnocks and their people to leave the area before Cobra returns in full force。 Unlike msot versions of the Dreadnocks, who normally side with Cobra this group lead by Xartan have been fighting back against the vipers and the Bats。 The Dreanocks have always been a rowdy bunch of Bikers, throughout GI Joe Mythology, but in this book they are straight up Samcro (sons of Anarchy Fans will know what I am talking about) and they have set up their own Biker cult in this town。 There is an issue that delves into Major Bludd’s backstory and there is a strong focus on JOE characters that normally don’t get much of the spotlight。 In some cases, I am not sure if they are entirely new characters or if they have been in other books, I just didn’t recognize Joes like Tiger, Bombstrike and Fadeaway。 I am assuming that there will be many hardcore Joe fans that do not like the tone of this series, or the idea that Cobra has taken over the world。 I am going to go into Spoilers here, but Duke is killed within the first issue。 Flint is not in the book at all, and seems to be replaced by another character I didn’t recognize known as Frontier and Roadblock begins the book as a complete civilian who struggles with the ideas of killing another person。 。。。more
