This book is so tender it is about a little boy growing up with his little dog。 The pictures and story is so sweet。 Ay the end of the book the little dog gets old and dies。 It is just a really sweet story。

This book Is the perfect book for the children that are still too little to understand the actual meaning of death in depth。 Death is not easy for anyone to comprehend but this book will help you try to understand it and have reassurance。 The book follows the friendship about a dog and a boy, as the boy grows up, so does the dog。 They did everything together and more。 Eventually the dog sadly passed away but the book made sure that the boy was to know that the dog was with him in spirit and will This book Is the perfect book for the children that are still too little to understand the actual meaning of death in depth。 Death is not easy for anyone to comprehend but this book will help you try to understand it and have reassurance。 The book follows the friendship about a dog and a boy, as the boy grows up, so does the dog。 They did everything together and more。 Eventually the dog sadly passed away but the book made sure that the boy was to know that the dog was with him in spirit and will always love him。 This book is great for smaller kids and there is nothing I do not like about it。 。。。more

After recently losing a pet dog "sister," this book made me cry。 I think it would be a wonderful book to share with a child that has lost a pet。 After recently losing a pet dog "sister," this book made me cry。 I think it would be a wonderful book to share with a child that has lost a pet。 。。。more

I’ll Always Love You by Hans Wilhelm is a picturebook intended for children in elementary school, I checked this book out from the Maryland Digital Library in eBook form。 This is a book about a young boy and his dog Elfie who grow up together。 Throughout the course of the book Elfie gets older and eventually passes away。 The book beautifully handles the topic of grief。 In the end, the boy acknowledges that he’ll always love Elfie but he’ll have another dog someday。 The main character is a relata I’ll Always Love You by Hans Wilhelm is a picturebook intended for children in elementary school, I checked this book out from the Maryland Digital Library in eBook form。 This is a book about a young boy and his dog Elfie who grow up together。 Throughout the course of the book Elfie gets older and eventually passes away。 The book beautifully handles the topic of grief。 In the end, the boy acknowledges that he’ll always love Elfie but he’ll have another dog someday。 The main character is a relatable child who is loving and generous。 I rated this book 5/5 because the plot so beautifully walks the reader through the stages of Elfie’s life。 As a reader, you feel connected to the life of Elfie through the everyday scenarios the author describes like laying on the floor, playing and taking Elfie to the vet。 I think this book would be a perfect choice for a child who is dealing with the loss of a pet or family member because the main character acknowledges his sadness but knows that he’ll love again someday。 The watercolor illustrations are warm and convey the love between the boy and his dog。 The language is simple and the repeated refrain “I’ll always love you” hammers in the theme of love。 。。。more

I think this not only can help with the loss of a pet but it could also be an introduction to death for students who haven't experienced it。 That being said, I thought it was odd that it mentioned multiple times how other people didn't love the dog as much as the narrator, it just felt odd and out of place。 I think this not only can help with the loss of a pet but it could also be an introduction to death for students who haven't experienced it。 That being said, I thought it was odd that it mentioned multiple times how other people didn't love the dog as much as the narrator, it just felt odd and out of place。 。。。more

The illustrations in the book could've been more detailed。 There were times when two objects overlapped but were the same color, so it was hard to tell the difference。 The vocabulary in the book wasn't hard and was pretty simple for children to understand。 Additionally, I dont think death should be in a book, that's what killed the book for me。 The illustrations in the book could've been more detailed。 There were times when two objects overlapped but were the same color, so it was hard to tell the difference。 The vocabulary in the book wasn't hard and was pretty simple for children to understand。 Additionally, I dont think death should be in a book, that's what killed the book for me。 。。。more

A recent discussion in the Children's Books group I moderate has reminded me of this book, which - together with Judith Viorst's The Tenth Good Thing About Barney - is one of my top recommendations for those looking for books to help a child begin the grieving process for the loss of a pet。"This is a story about Elfie - the best dog in the whole world" begins Hans Wilhelm's I'll Always Love You, in which a young boy and his beloved dachshund grow up together, only to be parted when Elfie gro A recent discussion in the Children's Books group I moderate has reminded me of this book, which - together with Judith Viorst's The Tenth Good Thing About Barney - is one of my top recommendations for those looking for books to help a child begin the grieving process for the loss of a pet。"This is a story about Elfie - the best dog in the whole world" begins Hans Wilhelm's I'll Always Love You, in which a young boy and his beloved dachshund grow up together, only to be parted when Elfie grows old and dies。 As he and his family begin to grieve, the narrator is comforted by the many wonderful adventures he had with Elfie, and by the fact that every day he told her: "I'll always love you。"With its simple but heartfelt narrative, and expressive (and often humorous) watercolor illustrations, this little picture book offers a sensitive portrayal of a child's love for his animal companion, and his grief at her loss。 Young readers who are facing a similar situation will find comfort in Wilhelm's gentle story。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

This book was a suggestion to help our toddler deal with the illness and death of our dog。 I found it to be awful - it was a self-righteous guilt trip of a story disguised as a picture book。 The main character is the only one who told the dog he loved her because mom and dad etc were too busy。 And everyone was sad but he was less sad when she died because he knew he told her he loved her。 Terrible。

Amy Stevenson

Good book to deal with the sadness that comes with the death of a pet。

This book was good, well written and has good illustrations。 However, not my first choice to read with children。 Although death is a part of life, I prefer children's books that are not sad。 This book was good, well written and has good illustrations。 However, not my first choice to read with children。 Although death is a part of life, I prefer children's books that are not sad。 。。。more

Within the first couple of pages, you can sense this picture book is about time and progression - specifically about how quickly animals grow and how their lifetimes are often distinct from their human family's。 The book makes it clear and explicit when child narrator's beloved dog dies, even showing the family burying the dog。 Within the first couple of pages, you can sense this picture book is about time and progression - specifically about how quickly animals grow and how their lifetimes are often distinct from their human family's。 The book makes it clear and explicit when child narrator's beloved dog dies, even showing the family burying the dog。 。。。more

Sweet, well-handled story about the death of a pet。 I love that it follows the child and the dog as they grow together, and the love between the two is palpable。 It ends on a hopeful note, as well。

Got this to read to my 5 year old daughter that has gone through alot of death with pets this year。 She seems to enjoy it and overall it's a basic but endearing story。 Got this to read to my 5 year old daughter that has gone through alot of death with pets this year。 She seems to enjoy it and overall it's a basic but endearing story。 。。。more

A nice book for looking at the sensitive subject of loss。 I cried! Needs careful handling。

This is a sad book, but with great meaning behind it。 A boy and a dog grow up together, and as they start to get older the dog eventually passes away。 The little boy always made it a point to tell the dog he loved him。 I think it is a good read for younger children。 It teaches them about loss of something you loved, but yet the book ends on a hopeful note。 This book shows that loss happens and how to cope with that loss, and that moving on is okay。

After the death of our pet, I was looking for books that would help my child deal with the loss。 This is a gentle book that shows a dog growing older and eventually dying (not traumatically)。 There is a pet funeral and the family is sad。I liked how this book handled a sensitive subject realistically and that it did not point to getting a new pet right away as the solution to grieving。 What I didn't entirely love is that the child in the book feels better knowing he told his dog "I'll always love After the death of our pet, I was looking for books that would help my child deal with the loss。 This is a gentle book that shows a dog growing older and eventually dying (not traumatically)。 There is a pet funeral and the family is sad。I liked how this book handled a sensitive subject realistically and that it did not point to getting a new pet right away as the solution to grieving。 What I didn't entirely love is that the child in the book feels better knowing he told his dog "I'll always love you" every day。 I thought this might make some kids feel guilty if they had not always been the perfect pet caretakers。 Still would recommend to help open up conversation if you are dealing with this tough situation of pet loss。 。。。more

I think one of the best ways to learn about loss of a loved one is by raising kids with animals。 This book portrays the connection a child can make with an animal and the loss he felt when she passed。 It made me cry。

This is the sweetest and saddest little story, and another of my childhood books, which is still in my collection。 This story deals with love and loss, and draws you in emotionally as you follow a little boy's experience with his beloved pet dog。。。 it beautifully depicts a sad fact of life, in a very touching way。。。 and may make you shed a tear。 The illustrations are absolutely adorable。 This is the sweetest and saddest little story, and another of my childhood books, which is still in my collection。 This story deals with love and loss, and draws you in emotionally as you follow a little boy's experience with his beloved pet dog。。。 it beautifully depicts a sad fact of life, in a very touching way。。。 and may make you shed a tear。 The illustrations are absolutely adorable。 。。。more

This book is different from others that speak about love。 It teaches the concept of life and death at a young age。 It's practical so children may be able to relate to it if they've experienced loss in their life time。 Its a very mellow book with its soft brush strokes that give warmth and support。 This book is different from others that speak about love。 It teaches the concept of life and death at a young age。 It's practical so children may be able to relate to it if they've experienced loss in their life time。 Its a very mellow book with its soft brush strokes that give warmth and support。 。。。more
