I thought that this book was beautifully written!

The toddler loved the pictures of the dogs in this book; he was trying to pet them! A little too advanced for him on the main content but I liked seeing the actual size growing baby。

Fantastic book explaining what's going on inside mom's belly: scientific but sweet! Would be a great gift for a 2+ year-old who is expecting a younger sibling。 Fantastic book explaining what's going on inside mom's belly: scientific but sweet! A very simple text to explain the complex process of human development before birth。 I love how unapologetic it is in showing full-on how completely human an unborn child is。 I hope all children can experience this book and view this process with complete awe and reverence。 Life is a treasured miracle。

I love that it includes pictures of the babies development each month so you can talk about what is happening inside。

This is like a two for one deal。 On one hand is a set of rhymes as month to month the baby grows。 The other side of this is a small set of scientific info and illustrations of a growing womb month to month。 It pairs all of this well without feeling overwhelming like some other books。

Highly recommended for any parent/caregiver who wants a beautiful book to help big sister and brothers understand how their new sibling(s) is/are growing and what human babies can do even before birth。 The illustrations blew me away at the detail and anatomical accuracy。

I wish I had this book to read to my son before my daughter came along。

I really liked this book because of all the information it has。 This book explains the process of pregnancy in very nice way for children to understand。 What I like the most about this book is how it shows what a fetus looks like throughout every month of pregnancy alongside a family who is waiting for their baby to be born。 These illustrations are very detailed。 I think this a good book for children to read, especially if they are expecting to have a sibling, because they can learn a lot about I really liked this book because of all the information it has。 This book explains the process of pregnancy in very nice way for children to understand。 What I like the most about this book is how it shows what a fetus looks like throughout every month of pregnancy alongside a family who is waiting for their baby to be born。 These illustrations are very detailed。 I think this a good book for children to read, especially if they are expecting to have a sibling, because they can learn a lot about how babies are formed。 。。。more

My younger kids LOVED this book! I pretty much have it memorized I’ve read it so many times。 I’m currently pregnant so I’m sure that played a part in their interest。 We loved how it gave some informative material but still had a story plot to it through the pictures that really capture their interest。 My 10 year old felt it was too simple and craved more information。 Not necessarily a bad thing in my opinion!

Nine Months: Before a Baby Is Born is a GREAT picturebook about the development of the unborn baby。Miranda Paul's text is a laconic, beautiful, clever, and well-researched poem。 The additional information in the back matter ("More About Babies," "Whoa, Baby!," "Humans vs。 Animals," and "What If。。。?") is equally educational and engaging。Jason Chin’s detailed, colorful illustrations both accurately illustrate the development of the unborn baby (true to size starting the fourth month) and tell a lo Nine Months: Before a Baby Is Born is a GREAT picturebook about the development of the unborn baby。Miranda Paul's text is a laconic, beautiful, clever, and well-researched poem。 The additional information in the back matter ("More About Babies," "Whoa, Baby!," "Humans vs。 Animals," and "What If。。。?") is equally educational and engaging。Jason Chin’s detailed, colorful illustrations both accurately illustrate the development of the unborn baby (true to size starting the fourth month) and tell a lovely personal story of a (Mexican-American?) family of five (husband, wife, daughter, and two dogs) waiting for their newest family member to arrive。 。。。more

The genre of this book is informational。 I like this book because it can be used to discuss the sometimes difficult topic of having a younger sibling to students, the development of babies, and also what families have to do to prepare for having a new baby including how things might change。 I would use this book for the reading format of shared reading between a student and teacher rather than with the entire class, especially if there is a student who is struggling with their parent(s) having a The genre of this book is informational。 I like this book because it can be used to discuss the sometimes difficult topic of having a younger sibling to students, the development of babies, and also what families have to do to prepare for having a new baby including how things might change。 I would use this book for the reading format of shared reading between a student and teacher rather than with the entire class, especially if there is a student who is struggling with their parent(s) having another child。 。。。more

Shows the development of a fetus from conception to birth。 Good resource for parents explaining a new baby to a small child。 Not too graphic, nice simple text。 Good explanations in backmatter。

Great way to help a soon-to-be older sibling understand some of the science behind what's happening when a new baby is arriving while also being put into a storybook format。 I'll have to remember this one to possibly use in the future。 Great way to help a soon-to-be older sibling understand some of the science behind what's happening when a new baby is arriving while also being put into a storybook format。 I'll have to remember this one to possibly use in the future。 。。。more

The stages of pregnancy our brought to life in an appropriate but beautiful way。 A great book for a parent explaining to their child that they are expecting a baby。 Through this book, a child could gain immense knowledge and understanding。

The perfect book for littles who are expecting a new sibling。 This bright and cheerful picture book tells the story of pregnancy from fertilization to birth。 Illustrated pictures of the fetus are actual size beginning at week 15。 Parents will be able to share what baby looks like with children。

What a lovely introduction to what happens as a fetus develops! The clever rhyming text and simple descriptions make this a perfect way to explain the months before birth to young children。 The soft, realistic illustrations show how the baby takes up more space as time goes on。 And the back-matter is full of interesting facts to dip into on second, third and fourth readings。 If I had young about-to-be siblings or even curious young children, this book would already be on my bookshelf。 A real gem What a lovely introduction to what happens as a fetus develops! “Small。 Ball。 The point of a pin。 Then it divides…” So begins this luminous account of a baby’s journey from womb to family’s waiting arms。 Paul’s lyric text catalogues the fetus’s monthly growth。 At six months, “Ears that can hear。 Sing as she listens。 Tell her you’re near。” Chin’s paintings, done actual-size, show the developing baby on one page and, on the facing page, the changing seasons and the expectant family’s activities。 At month eight, she “Churns。 Turns。 Not much more room…” A joyful “Small。 Ball。 The point of a pin。 Then it divides…” So begins this luminous account of a baby’s journey from womb to family’s waiting arms。 Paul’s lyric text catalogues the fetus’s monthly growth。 At six months, “Ears that can hear。 Sing as she listens。 Tell her you’re near。” Chin’s paintings, done actual-size, show the developing baby on one page and, on the facing page, the changing seasons and the expectant family’s activities。 At month eight, she “Churns。 Turns。 Not much more room…” A joyful double-spread depicts the newborn。 Follow-up pages describe the amazing things babies can do in utero, give more details about month-to-month growth, and answer questions about difficult topics like miscarriage and premature birth。 While families expecting a new addition (and that includes mine right now!!!!) will surely enjoy this reassuring and informative book, it should also satisfy anyone who wants to know, “Where do babies come from?” 。。。more
