Summary

A blood-spattered battle between diabolical sorcerers and the monsters they created。

In a city so dismal it's known only as "the Hole," a clan of Sorcerers has been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious "experiments" in the black arts。 In a dark alley, Nikaido found Caiman, a man with a reptile head and a bad case of amnesia。 To undo the spell, they're hunting and killing the Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping that eventually they'll kill the right one。 But when En, the head Sorcerer, gets word of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, he sends a crew of "cleaners" into the Hole, igniting a war between two worlds。

Nikaido and Natsuki comfort Caiman after he is forced to confront some dark truths about his origins。 Meanwhile, Professor Kasukabe goes grave digging with Shin and Noi in an attempt to unravel the mysteries surrounding a strange wax doll they have encountered。 As Dokuga's gang of Cross-Eyes desperately try to cover their involvement in a murder, Asu finds himself in serious trouble with his fellow Devils。 Hold on tight for the next installment of Dorohedoro!

Hayashida crafts some real nightmare-fuel imagery for this volume。

My absolute favorite parts were the ones pertaining to Asu & his current situation/bits of background we got in him。 It's intriguing to say the least。All in all, this was another solid installment for the series。 Though, it does bring up so many more questions than it does answers。 There are various odds and ends that I'm incredibly curious about, and I can't wait until those secrets are revealed。 My absolute favorite parts were the ones pertaining to Asu & his current situation/bits of background we got in him。 It's intriguing to say the least。All in all, this was another solid installment for the series。 Though, it does bring up so many more questions than it does answers。 There are various odds and ends that I'm incredibly curious about, and I can't wait until those secrets are revealed。 。。。more

she just wanted to travel with them。 She goes on about how she wants to become the woman of the gang’s leader, and is also flirty with the protagonist。 Apparently strong men get her wet, and her flirting annoys Nikaido more than she lets it show。 They spend the afternoon in a fancy hotel they can’t pay for。 During a moment they spend alone, Nikaido approaches the alligator dude and asks him what he will do when he recovers his memory。 She fears that he’ll stay in this dimension and break off contact with her, and she offers him to become her partner in the restaurant。 He’s glad that she’d have him despite their differences。 However, she’s anxious, and a bit of text reveals to us, speaking from sometime in the future, that it was the last conversation Nikaido ever had with her best friend alligator dude。 Given that I haven’t even reached the middle of this series, this must be one of those lies that fictional stories tell, and they can get away with them because we are already signed into being told stories that never happened。 Damn your manipulation。The hideout in that town does contain the gang member they are looking for。 We have seen him go in and meet the local branch。 They are a desperate bunch that, although they are distrustful of this former gang member that had died, aren’t eager to keep him around mostly because the branch can’t afford to feed him。 I don’t recall exactly why, they end up tying him up while they deal with their landlord, a monstrous woman resembling one of the crones from “The Witcher 3”, who demands all the money they owe。 The gang members end up killing her by complete accident, and they decide that they might as well move to her mansion and stage a suicide for the woman so they won’t be booted out。 I don’t know why they would be allowed to live in someone else’s property just because she killed herself, but whatever。Nikaido can afford to accompany lizard head dude on his journey because a demon, who used to be a childhood mentor of hers, had sent her away from her captor and also transformed a gay henchman of the big boss to take her place。 The henchman has been living as Nikaido for a few days and he/she loves not only being able to cuddle with the boss but also to drape his/her voluptuous body with pretty lingerie。 However, that spell only holds up as long as the demon holds up, and the demon’s boss has caught on to the deception。 Turns out that there are demons who were born that way, and demons who just studied to be accepted into their ranks。 It doesn’t make sense why a population would accept individuals from a different population if then betraying the host population to favor the foreign one is such a massive issue, but the born demon captures, tortures and then butchers Nikaido’s demon pal。 His remains end up sold as pig meat in a butcher shop near Hell。 However, Nikaido’s mentor isn’t dead: his original human form, skinless, had remained inside the demonic form, and now that he’s been exiled he has to crawl on his exposed flesh towards home。 Brütal。 In any case, the spell that had allowed the gay henchman to enjoy a life of privilege and luxury as a beautiful woman expires, and he finds himself having to face his boss as his old man self。 The boss, realizing that this guy had deceived him and put his hands and maybe other parts all over him, almost strangles him to death, but in a fit of terror, the henchman accidentally tears the contract that had fallen from the real Nikaido’s body, and that, due to some magical connection, incapacitates the mushroom dude。 The henchman should have taken that opportunity to run to the end of the world, because his boss has turned entire gangs into mushrooms and then ate them for far lesser offenses。Regarding our endearing pair of henchmen Shin and Noi, they are forcefully dragged into a periodic ball for which they have to dress themselves like savages and take part in some pagan festivity ironically to praise demons, who walk around pitchfork in hand pitchforking people if they aren’t dancing with someone of the opposite sex。 Shin remembers the last time he was dragged into this festivity, which was ten years ago。 That time he had ended up dancing with a solitary, beautiful girl who seemed depressed。 He wonders who that girl might have been, and what she’s doing now。 However, when he’s greeted effusively by Noi, now a gigantic, cheerful murderer, wearing the tribal costume, Shin realizes that the old girl had been his dear partner all along。 When are you both going to fuck, for Satan’s sake? What on Earth are you waiting for, Shin? You ought to have your penis rescinded。 By the way, for a society ruled by demons, there’s a conspicuous lack of orgies and shady sexual practices。 Step up, Hayashida。We also have a bit of development regarding one of the secondary characters that hang out with mushroom dude: it’s a skinny girl who got her face ripped off back in the first volume, and somehow that turned her half-retarded。 I don’t recall if it was due to the trauma of the event or because Noi botched healing her。 In any case, during a meeting in a strip club back in the previous volume, their boss made them eat special hallucinogenic mushrooms that he’s intending to sell, enterprising fellow that he is。 She hallucinated her parents and plenty of details about her childhood that she had forgotten in her half-retarded state。 That will begin to play out in the next volume, of which I’ve already read around half。I can’t think of any line to end this review properly, so there。 。。。more

I think this might be my favorite volume so far! Ties up a lot of character threads and features some great revelatory moments。 Also, Chota’s character arc continues to be my absolute fave。 As far as new concepts go, the butcher demon that un-devils Asu is FUCKING RAW and possibly the coolest, creepiest character design Hayashida has come up with。 So, so freaky。Also, my sincerest apologies to whichever Chicago Public Library patron has been reading these behind me, ‘cuz I took my damn time with I think this might be my favorite volume so far! New characters are added to the story to follow the construction of the background of the universe and of the protagonists。 Emotions are here, and while I laugh for some hilarious dialogues or am horrified with gore fight scene, I start to feel attached to those insane characters。

Weird manga, It’s quite gory and has lots of blood which is always a plus but this manga has horrible art and like no story 😅📖🔪👌💕💕

This volume feels a bit transitional, with lots of different threads being tied off, or expanded upon。 Still the nice mix of gore, humor, and oddities。 I particularly liked the fucked-up cenobite bird-head razor hand creature。 Also food, like always。

I think this may be the best volume of this series yet。 So many revelations! In these 160-odd pages, we get our clearest glimpse yet of Caiman's past, we see Nikaido's childhood, we find out who Asu really is, bodies are hidden, corpses vanish, and holy crap Chota, I could kiss you, you magnificent bastard! And underneath it all rises the question of just what the hell Nikaido's magic actually is。So much happens here, but it never feels rushed。 With each successive volume, Dorohedoro is quickly I think this may be the best volume of this series yet。 So many revelations!
