This is a great book to read if you need some optimism in your life。

The content is your usual science fare, brought up to date – The Future of Humanity summarises, explains and critiques just about every aspect of mankind's future among the stars, from the immediate Muskian problems of lifting payloads into orbit cheaply and reaching and then colonising Mars, to distant problems such as building a starship, the viability of life on exoplanets and what an interstellar, 'Type III' human civilisation might look like。This is all fascinating stuff, even if it won't b The content is your usual science fare, brought up to date – The Future of Humanity summarises, explains and critiques just about every aspect of mankind's future among the stars, from the immediate Muskian problems of lifting payloads into orbit cheaply and reaching and then colonising Mars, to distant problems such as building a starship, the viability of life on exoplanets and what an interstellar, 'Type III' human civilisation might look like。This is all fascinating stuff, even if it won't be new to many in the target audience。 However, the main strength and selling point of The Future of Humanity is its author, Michio Kaku。 Kaku brings two great qualities to the book: first, his infectious enthusiasm and optimism for the future of our species, even whilst acknowledging the potential pitfalls。 It is hard not to get swept up in his vision, and desire to see what new advancements the next few decades will hold。 He is never too excitable, and in fact his sober, level-headed story-spinning of our future civilisation only makes it seem more incredible, because you realise it could well become true。The second great quality Kaku shows is his impressive ability to bring the most complex astrophysical concepts to heel, and present them tame to the layman in the audience。 I was frequently surprised at the clarity of his prose and, as the book progresses, he outdoes himself: I have long struggled with conceptualising string theory, and then on page 278 Kaku managed to deliver it to me with a bow in a few clean paragraphs。 It is this ability which makes The Future of Humanity so stimulating, and Kaku one of our most potent science educators and popularisers。 。。。more

Took me a while to slug through。 At first I was super into it, but I got lost in the middle/end。 I think this book was a little too smart for me。

Very interesting, an eye opening book, for the future of humanity。 The last chapter was hard for me to understand。

It was okay but some parts were pretty fantastic。。。almost science fiction like。 I'm wondering if his popularity has perhaps influenced him to write this way because the public likes or expects it。 It was okay but some parts were pretty fantastic。。。almost science fiction like。 I'm wondering if his popularity has perhaps influenced him to write this way because the public likes or expects it。 。。。more

Essential reading for anyone interested in the fate of humans beyond Earth。 Would have been 5 stars but quite a lot of part 3 was a bit heavy on the theoretical physics。 But as the author is a theoretical physicist that can be expected。

this was fun!! the future of space travel is astonishing and scary and even tho technology is growing at a rapid rate i still struggle to comprehend seeing any of these possibilities in my lifetime??? anyway space is fun

A very worthy read。 Sure, there is tons of speculation, but hearing what an expert believes the future could potentially look like is really entertaining, regardless of the plausibility of their statements。 The book is really a crash-course in the science behind science fiction, which generally aligns with my interests。

I really enjoyed reading your book。 This deserves a lot of audience。 Why don't you publish it in N0velStar?And they also have an on-going competition that you might want to join。t I really enjoyed reading your book。 This deserves a lot of audience。 Why don't you publish it in N0velStar?And they also have an on-going competition that you might want to join。t 。。。more

Very good book - I've read a few books about the future of humanity (in some form or other), but this definitely took on plenty of unique concepts and presented them in a very easy to understand fashion。 It's the kind of book that can rekindle anyone's love in the idea of exploration of the universe。 I've always quite liked the idea that the purpose of life is to discover the purpose of life。。。 and there doesn't seem to be any better way to do that than to explore the stars and push the boundari Very good book - I've read a few books about the future of humanity (in some form or other), but this definitely took on plenty of unique concepts and presented them in a very easy to understand fashion。 It's the kind of book that can rekindle anyone's love in the idea of exploration of the universe。 I've always quite liked the idea that the purpose of life is to discover the purpose of life。。。 and there doesn't seem to be any better way to do that than to explore the stars and push the boundaries of the universe。 This book is very inspiring in that sense。 。。。more

Interesting read, though I'm not as big of a fan of the privatization of space travel as the author seems to be。 And, I'm not smart of enough to understand the last two chapters, especially when it comes to string theory。 Interesting read, though I'm not as big of a fan of the privatization of space travel as the author seems to be。 And, I'm not smart of enough to understand the last two chapters, especially when it comes to string theory。 。。。more

Really like the book, but found it a bit boring at times, as I have read so many other books on space travel, technology development etc。 Highly recommend it to someone that does not want to dive too deep technically in the development of human technology。

Kaku provides a blueprint to the stars。 It reads like a crash course in theoretical physics toward a unified theory between general relativity and quantum mechanics。 This kind of speculative science intertwines theology and astrophysics to look at possible futures where we close the distance between celestial bodies and harness the power of the multi-verse。 Kaku postulates about post-terrestrial transhumanism when advances in technology will enable our pursuit of exoplanetary colonization。 We ma Kaku provides a blueprint to the stars。 It reads like a crash course in theoretical physics toward a unified theory between general relativity and quantum mechanics。 This kind of speculative science intertwines theology and astrophysics to look at possible futures where we close the distance between celestial bodies and harness the power of the multi-verse。 Kaku postulates about post-terrestrial transhumanism when advances in technology will enable our pursuit of exoplanetary colonization。 We may avoid certain death on our planet by achieving superluminal transport of our consciousness to the far corners of the universe。 Inexorably tied to our future as a spacefaring species is our ability to harness energy at scale—beyond the earth, tapping into the sun's energy, the galaxy and the universe itself in the diaspora to the stars。 。。。more

Great read for the first part of the book regarding transforming Mars into a Terra-like planet and how interstellar travels could be achieved, i learned so much。 But the second part was way beyond my reach when Mr Kaku started explaining his physics theories。 If you are not in this field i bet it will be really hard to keep pace with that and the book becomes a scientific one。All in all, the style is very enjoyable and it worth reading this book。

While not much info sci fi (which is what I associated astronomy with), I had been wondering why Elon Musk and Bezos were so focused on getting to and potentially colonizing Mars。 Why in the world would you want to visit Mars, much less live there? This book opened my eyes much more about the next thousand years and answered that and many other questions for me。Easy to read。

I thought this book was an easy, engaging, and educational read。 As a amateur futurist, I really enjoyed learning about the history of space exploration, the technological milestones our species need to hit to extend our footprint in the universe, and what our future might be。 The writing style is clear and direct。 The book is also a good length。 The last 1/6th of the book talked about hardcore quantum physics concepts that honestly lost me。 I understand why the field is important but it’s diffi I thought this book was an easy, engaging, and educational read。 As a amateur futurist, I really enjoyed learning about the history of space exploration, the technological milestones our species need to hit to extend our footprint in the universe, and what our future might be。 The writing style is clear and direct。 The book is also a good length。 The last 1/6th of the book talked about hardcore quantum physics concepts that honestly lost me。 I understand why the field is important but it’s difficult for anyone to really describe in a convincing way 10 dimensions, sub-particles, and the differences between dark energy and dark mass。 Overall great read。 Would recommend 。。。more

Tour de force on the past, current, and future ideas and efforts to aid humanity in its interplanetary goals to survive an apocalyptic demise。 Michio offers an exciting look at the possibilities with a measured look at the timelines。 Brilliant and looking for to his next book。

Fascinating。 This book covers a huge number of topics。 It rarely lost my interest because each topic was covered very briefly。 This worked really well。 It’s one of those books that I frequently want to Google things to find out more on a particular subject。
