Simply the best book on TA。 Most recommended for absolute beginners and intermediary levels。

Excellent and very clear description of Technical Analysis。 One of the best I've read。 My only complaint is that the P&F charts were not very clear to see。 Excellent and very clear description of Technical Analysis。 One of the best I've read。 My only complaint is that the P&F charts were not very clear to see。 。。。more

I began this book with a completely blank slate。 I had googled for 'books on technical analysis'。 The very first recommendation was that of John Murphy's this book on technical analysis。 I found the Audible version of the book。 I have presently finished chapter 5。 By now, I have finished with what the author calls as 'the building blocks of technical analysis'。 Lucid flow of the book does not fail to impress you。 The author gives historical context of how the technical analysis began and why it I began this book with a completely blank slate。 I had googled for 'books on technical analysis'。 The very first recommendation was that of John Murphy's this book on technical analysis。 I found the Audible version of the book。 I have presently finished chapter 5。 By now, I have finished with what the author calls as 'the building blocks of technical analysis'。 Lucid flow of the book does not fail to impress you。 The author gives historical context of how the technical analysis began and why it works。 Charles Dow's inventive thinking and the brief story behind Dow theory shared in the book makes leaves you with great awe and admiration。Can charts tell anything about industries and businesses in a nation? The question can be equated to whether serial EKGs (over days, months or years) can say anything about an individual about his health and lifestyle。 The answer to both the questions is obvious。 It is an unequivocally resounding YES to the quantification and analysis of every piece of information that can be gathered about anything and everything。Dow theory makes you wonder about the future of humanity itself。 Charles Dow created the theory after studying the NYSE for a century。 Those were the days when the industrial revolution had started。 Industrious endeavors of inventive thinkers had started getting rewarded。 The sense of community had always prevailed amongst humans and that continued amongst the investors while trying to meet personal interests at the same time。 I don't think anybody wished for a large-scale doom for others although a sort of competitive leg-pulling must have been happening。 Quite a few must have lost money in the markets but most investors profited and the idea of equity markets sustained。 Charles Dow created Dow theory which reflected human industrious endeavors, a sense of community, and emotional proclivities at the same time through charts。 An industrious community is emotionally stable。 It reflects a maturity and a sense of brotherhood despite the rough roads it might pass through。 More the stable and mature mentality the community develops, more does it become emotionally predictable。 Emotional stability also creates a sound social environment and an excellent business environment。 Charles Dow made all these very humanly vicissitudes observable and quantifiable to a satisfactory level through charts。 As we progress with the fourth industrial revolution, after reading Dow theory, I can't help but feel that Dow theory is one robust parameter of telling whether our society is still remaining just as lively humanistic while progressing。 Thinking machines were not present in Charles Dow's times。 I feel that the fourth industrial revolution will only bring brighter times。 While progressing on that path, we should always go back to what Charles Dow postulated through his Dow theory, to check whether the definition of progress has remained same or whether we could be on a different trajectory altogether in the name of the fourth industrial revolution。Now, coming back to the book。。。Trendlines, gaps, supports, resistances and all the action that happens on the charts start telling you a story。 The author helps you unravel that story and you become an analyst one step at a time。 This is my impression of the book after reading first 5 chapters。 The author will not make to turn away from this subject。 Rather, he makes a point why it all makes sense。 You would want to stick around for dabbling in technical analysis once in a while whatever may your profession be。 。。。more

Excellent intro book, the kind of resource for explanations you can always come back to to remember things。 I used to be sceptical about the whole discipline, but turns out if you do it properly *a lot emphasis on properly, then it can produce statistically significant profit, which is another indictment against the efficient market hypothesis。 Still I probably wouldn't put my money relying on just this thing。 Day trading is only for the chronic gamble addicts。 Excellent intro book, the kind of resource for explanations you can always come back to to remember things。 I used to be sceptical about the whole discipline, but turns out if you do it properly *a lot emphasis on properly, then it can produce statistically significant profit, which is another indictment against the efficient market hypothesis。 Still I probably wouldn't put my money relying on just this thing。 Day trading is only for the chronic gamble addicts。 。。。more

To trade in the market you can use fundamental analysis or technical analysis。 Everyone already understands fundamental analysis。 You buy bitcoin because you believe in its fundamentals; you believe that, in the future, many transactions will take place over the bitcoin network。 The problem is everyone understands fundamentals and any information you use in your fundamental analysis is known to every market participant already。 Therefore fundamental analysis isn't that useful for a trader。 What' To trade in the market you can use fundamental analysis or technical analysis。 Everyone already understands fundamental analysis。 You buy bitcoin because you believe in its fundamentals; you believe that, in the future, many transactions will take place over the bitcoin network。 The problem is everyone understands fundamentals and any information you use in your fundamental analysis is known to every market participant already。 Therefore fundamental analysis isn't that useful for a trader。 What's more useful is the strange craft called--quite generically--technical analysis。In technical analysis you don't need to know what bitcoin is (that's irrelevant)。 All you need is price action and volume of bitcoin in a trading market。 These two pieces of data are the beginning and end of all methods of technical analysis。 Murphy goes through all the major methods in this book, emphasizing classical charting styles of TA。 After reading this book you should be able to begin charting--that is applying technical analysis--right away。 It's a fun and weird craft, but don't expect to be using it to predict stock prices and making money right away。 The golden era of TA seemed to be in the 80s when a lot of the techniques described in this book had a lot of success。 The game has changed a lot。 Some methods are still valid in some situations in today's markets。 Unlike the name implies, technical is a craft (or even an art as Murphy says) that requires judgment, experience, and good sense。 There is no hard rule to when and how TA can be used in today's markets The book won't give you an edge, even though most people who invest in the market or trade casually aren't even aware of technical analysis。 (No book will give you an edge because if such information is published, it wouldn't be an edge anymore。) This book will make you less naive about how the market works。 It will make you wary of fundamentals, especially news events which, still today as in the 80s, are opportunities to manipulate and mislead。 The book will inspire you to be more technical about the markets。 Even if classical technical analysis is more of a craft or art, at bottom there is hard data the market provides (price action and volume), and it should be this data that guides your trading, not the opinion of some guy or yourself。 Trading in 2020 is dominated by actual technical systems, super-quantum-AI algorithms and such things。 Should humans despair and not get into the same arena as these machines that use really technical technical analysis? No。 A crafty human with knowledge of the methods in this book and other methods can still win。Clear writing, good examples。 Reads much smoothly。 It's not a textbook even though it may kind of look like one。 。。。more
