Summary

Relishing their newfound feelings for each other, Korra and Asami leave the Spirit World 。 。 。 but find nothing in Republic City but political hijinks and human vs。 spirit conflict!

A pompous developer plans to turn the new spirit portal into an amusement park, potentially severing an already tumultuous connection with the spirits。 What's more, the triads have realigned and are in a brutal all-out brawl at the city's borders - where hundreds of evacuees have relocated!

In order to get through it all, Korra and Asami vow to look out for each other - but first, they've got to get better at being a team and a couple!

Written by series co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino and drawn by Irene Koh T。M。N。T。, Sensation Comics featuring Wonder Woman, Secret Origins: Batgirl, Afrina and the Glass Coffin) and with consultation by Bryan Konietzko, this is the official continuation of The Legend of Korra

I know a lot of ATLA fans don’t like TLK but I personally love it and think this first part was a great continuation of the series。 I’m loving the nuances and discussions of sexuality (ahem asami and Korra) :D

I got the library edition of this comic and I genuinely tried to draw it out and make the story last, but it was so hard。 I wanted to devour the story and I did, with zero regrets。 (I also immediately bought the next library edition of the other comic and had to wait for a brutally long few days- that's how much I liked these comics。) I got the library edition of this comic and I genuinely tried to draw it out and make the story last, but it was so hard。 I wanted to devour the story and I did, with zero regrets。 (I also immediately bought the next library edition of the other comic and had to wait for a brutally long few days- that's how much I liked these comics。) 。。。more

Unrated out of 5 stars。 While reading this instalment once again, I’ve made a similar decision to that of my choice to not rate the ATLA comics for two similar reasons: 1。 Purely due to nostalgia, I would give it five stars。 Regardless of how good it actually is, I would still give it five stars。 I loved the television series so much as it was coming out, it brought me so much joy to watch my favourite series of all time (ATLA) get a spin off that I enjoyed a lot。 Korra has and always been a rel Unrated out of 5 stars。 While reading this instalment once again, I’ve made a similar decision to that of my choice to not rate the ATLA comics for two similar reasons: 1。 Purely due to nostalgia, I would give it five stars。 Regardless of how good it actually is, I would still give it five stars。 I loved the television series so much as it was coming out, it brought me so much joy to watch my favourite series of all time (ATLA) get a spin off that I enjoyed a lot。 Korra has and always been a relatable character for me, her struggles with her anger and impulsivity and her ambition always made me feel very seen。 I’m a very biased reviewer and I know it。 2。 Much like the ATLA comics, the LOK comics are not designed for my age range。 I’m 23。 The demographic these comics are targeted at is, primarily, children and young adolescents。 It’d be a bit silly of me to review them as if they’re directed at me。 This all being said, I really enjoyed it。 This is either the second or third time I’ve read this instalment and I loved it still。 It’s so joyous and the WLW representation is just so beautiful to behold—I’m very much a Korrasami fan and had theorised about their relationship (and hoped for it) while the series was being released。 The plot isn’t the most engaging, but if I’m entirely honest that’s not what really I’m here for。 If you like the ATLA series (comics and tv show) or Legend of Korra, I’d highly recommend these comics。 They’re a lot of fun。 。。。more

Turf Wars picks up exactly where the series finale left off。 It starts with Korra and Asami's vacation in the Spirit World which is a really calm, frivolous transition。 The two have fun exploring the realm and finally have that kiss that we were robbed of by Nickelodeon。 The queer aspect of their relationship is explored as they come out to Korra's parents and eventually others and I really liked this approach。 There was the positive reaction of Korra's parents who were just happy for their kid, Turf Wars picks up exactly where the series finale left off。 It starts with Korra and Asami's vacation in the Spirit World which is a really calm, frivolous transition。 The two have fun exploring the realm and finally have that kiss that we were robbed of by Nickelodeon。 The queer aspect of their relationship is explored as they come out to Korra's parents and eventually others and I really liked this approach。 There was the positive reaction of Korra's parents who were just happy for their kid, but it was slightly tainted by fears of other people not being as accepting。 Korra predictably reacts in anger to her parents' fears, feeling attacked rather than protected and it is all a very realistic portrayal of what coming out can be like。I loved that they kept Kya as perceptive as always and had her be the first person to recognize their relationship before anyone else。 She's always been attuned to what other people are experiencing (for instance with Jinora and her connection to the Spirit World) and she has experience being a somewhat closeted queer person and saw herself in them。 I loved that Aang was completely accepting because it would be extremely out of character for him to be anything else。 I also loved Kya's explanation of how each of the nations viewed homosexuality。 The Air Nation was completely accepting and open and Water was accepting but had a sort of "Don't ask don't tell" policy。 Fire mirrored many colonized countries in that they were initially accepting until a tyrannical ruler came in and forced his views onto the people (similar to the British invading the Americas and India)。 And then in the oppressive Earth Kingdom, not even the revered Avatar Kyoshi was able to change the rigid ways of thinking。 I like how it showed both progression and regression but still left hope for a better future。The main conflict in the book (which I feel was secondary to the Korrasami storyline) revolved around the new Spirit World Portal opened in Republic City。 It wasn't too interesting, but I liked how the Spirits weren't all good beings。 The Triple Threats were the obvious villainous force, but even the spirits were petty and spiteful, thus generating potential for a large scale conflict。 I also liked the nod to Jet from ATLA with Tokuga using hook swords as his weapon。 There were some fun moments with Bolin and Mako being partners and I'm interested to see how things go (and hoping for some more great brotherly moments between those two) 。。。more

This was GREAT ! The drawings are beautiful, especially the colors of the landscapes。 And it's Korrasami !! Well, I didn't finish watching the show at all (I'm in the middle of season 2) so there were quite a few spoiler。 I was really surprised to enjoy Korra and Asami that much since I have been mostly disappointed by them so far。 (I mean。。。 Korra's really fun。 I love how she always dives in first, has no control of her temper and no diplomatic skills whatsoever。 Seeing her punching her way thr This was GREAT ! First off: Legend of Korra is good, but I don't love it。 Not as much as ATLA。 That being said, I was definitely interested in the comics。I really liked how, with the very first volume, the story jumps right into Korra and Asami's relationship, having them discuss it, talking about coming out, and even mentioning the different ways every nation reacts to same-sex relationships。Also, Kya is a lesbian, which is nice and all - but, I'm just saying, that should've been in the show。 It's already enoug First off: Legend of Korra is good, but I don't love it。 Not as much as ATLA。 That being said, I was definitely interested in the comics。I really liked how, with the very first volume, the story jumps right into Korra and Asami's relationship, having them discuss it, talking about coming out, and even mentioning the different ways every nation reacts to same-sex relationships。Also, Kya is a lesbian, which is nice and all - but, I'm just saying, that should've been in the show。 It's already enough of an annoyance that Korra and Asami didn't get to kiss at the end, but if Kya likes girls that could've been in the show。 But hey, I know there were probably censors (because showing Korra suffering from PTSD is okay but two girls kissing isn't), so I appreciate at least that this book is showing that。The art style is different in here - in the ATLA comics, it's almost exact from the show, whereas this style is rougher and less exact。 And I liked that; it's different。4/5 stars, I am interested to see where this will go。 。。。more
