Dark, humorous。。 loved this one

This was confusing and hard to follow most of the time but when we get to the Big reveal how I cried, and cried and cried。 There's also the mental health representation and that was so well done and accurate。 Heartbreaking。 This was confusing and hard to follow most of the time but when we get to the Big reveal how I cried, and cried and cried。 There's also the mental health representation and that was so well done and accurate。 Heartbreaking。 。。。more

I don't know it's confusing。 It's okay but i won't recommend this to my friends。 It took me a long time to finish it。 It has something that keep me going, something that i want to know - but then i just diaappointed。 It's not a book that left me an impression。 I don't know it's confusing。 It's okay but i won't recommend this to my friends。 It took me a long time to finish it。 It has something that keep me going, something that i want to know - but then i just diaappointed。 It's not a book that left me an impression。 。。。more

heart wrenching, moving, and bittersweet。 Such a clever way of explaining mental illness from their point of view instead of an outsiders point of view。 Wishing I could read it for the first time again already。。

I was recommended this book due to my interest in psychosis。 This is a book about grief, not psychosis or schizophrenia。 Not even to mention he fails to acknowledge the actual insanity of being in a psych ward。 And it’s poorly written。 While reading I couldn’t help but think the author hid his horrendous writing ability behind the guise of being a 19-year-old。 For the record, I didn’t finish。 Life’s too short。

Oh my heart。 I looooove this book & was hooked from the start。 I love Matt & Simon & how their dad calls Matt ‘mon Ami’。 I love Nanny Noo。 The story is rich & so well told。 It’s heartbreaking, warm, funny & I cried buckets at the end。

The best part about this book is the way it was written。 In both format and language it was very engaging but also the way it conveyed the message so impactfully。 It tells a horrific story about loss and grief and sorrow and mental health。 However it also tells of love and family。 It balanced both brilliantly while conveying humour, humanity and understanding。

This is a lovely, poetic little book that makes for a good read。 It's not the best piece of literature out there, but it definitely is no where near the worst。 The depiction of mental illness is this book is striking and real, my only issue is that it sometimes lies on the line of glorification。 The novel is all tightly wrapped up like a little parcel at the end which lends to a feeling of satisfaction。Filer does manage to stir up a lot of feeling and emotion in the reader through the story thro This is a lovely, poetic little book that makes for a good read。 It's not the best piece of literature out there, but it definitely is no where near the worst。 The depiction of mental illness is this book is striking and real, my only issue is that it sometimes lies on the line of glorification。 The novel is all tightly wrapped up like a little parcel at the end which lends to a feeling of satisfaction。Filer does manage to stir up a lot of feeling and emotion in the reader through the story through various different strategies。I would however rethink some of the structural decisions made。 。。。more

This book literally had me in tears one page and laughing aloud just the next page over。 A beautiful book about grief, mental illness, and family。 I literally read it over a span of a day while on holiday and although not your typical beach read, felt I was reading it at the exact correct moment。 This one will stay with me。

Loved this! Very interesting exploration of grief and mental illness

I'm sorry, I just couldn't get into this book so gave up。 Reading the reviews I maybe should of tried more but my tbr pile is huge and I've rather not force myself to read something I don't like。 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm sorry, I just couldn't get into this book so gave up。 Reading the reviews I maybe should of tried more but my tbr pile is huge and I've rather not force myself to read something I don't like。 🤷🏼‍♀️ 。。。more

I thought it would be a children's book but it was not and it was difficult to read it without getting a pain in my chest。 This is a story of a boy who went into the deep pit of mental illness。 His story is filled with anger, grief, depression and guilt。 We then see that he decides to fight against it, stay rooted for his family and more over be brave。🤎❄。❄🤎In this modern world we all are in a great hole。 And I think only we can put a wall to the unnecessary tension and anxiety。 But at the same time its important to get help even if it lasts for years。 I have no control over my life right now but that's okay because I will rise again no matter what。 I don't effing care what others feel about me。 I am like this and I am happy about it and so should you!🤎❄Do check out our post on Instagram!https://www。instagram。com/p/CL9LmmBg3nN/ 。。。more

Not quite what I was expecting, although I did go into this blind without any background research。 This isn’t a plot driven book, more an explorative account of grief written by an unreliable narrator。 I don’t feel that I particularly bonded or connected with Matt, however was touched by a few moments in the final part of the book。 The last two chapters really rounded out his character for me。

It's a beautiful book with a special style。 It's written from a mental ill persons point of view and creative designed like notes he's writing intentionally to tell his story。 Sometimes it's a little confusing, because he suddenly changes the subject or stops to write。 And sometimes the presented situations change between longer time ago and just yesterday or today。 But that makes it very unique and presents the main character even better。 I really loved this book, as a whole。 It's a beautiful book with a special style。 It's written from a mental ill persons point of view and creative designed like notes he's writing intentionally to tell his story。 Sometimes it's a little confusing, because he suddenly changes the subject or stops to write。 And sometimes the presented situations change between longer time ago and just yesterday or today。 But that makes it very unique and presents the main character even better。 I really loved this book, as a whole。 。。。more

I was first introduced to Nathan Filer after reading his non-fiction book ‘This book will change your mind about mental health。’ I loved his exploration of the controversies regarding the way we currently see mental illness, diagnosis, psychiatric medication and hospitalisation。 This book explores these ideas through the fictional life of Mathew Homes。 It charts his early experience of grief, how this affects his family and how it eventually leads to a slow decline into mental illness。 As some o I was first introduced to Nathan Filer after reading his non-fiction book ‘This book will change your mind about mental health。’ I loved his exploration of the controversies regarding the way we currently see mental illness, diagnosis, psychiatric medication and hospitalisation。 This book explores these ideas through the fictional life of Mathew Homes。 It charts his early experience of grief, how this affects his family and how it eventually leads to a slow decline into mental illness。 As some one with a personal experience of mental health and being sectioned, this book does justice in narrating the complexities of how this feels for an individual。 Details of the love-hate relationship patients can have with their care-coordinators and doctors; the uneasiness and sense of threat felt from depot injections; little details like knowing PRN medications are the medications you want to take - are poignantly told and feel so familiar to someone who has experienced the same things。 I think this book will feel so familiar to individuals who have suffered mental illness and gone through the system so to speak。 But also, educational for those who are trying to understand the lives of such people。 It puts into words those experiences that are sometimes impossible to describe and it does it well。 。。。more

I was honestly attracted to its book cover that's why I bought it but I wasn't aware and expecting that it was about mental illness。 At first, it was creepy because of the doll and her name。 I am always afraid of dolls ever since I watched Chukie when I was young。 So those since creep me out and I always change the name of thw doll into Ann。 Even though I haven't watch that movie, which is said to be truw to story。Okay back to the story, at first I didn't recognize Matt having a mental illness。 I was honestly attracted to its book cover that's why I bought it but I wasn't aware and expecting that it was about mental illness。 At first, it was creepy because of the doll and her name。 I am always afraid of dolls ever since I watched Chukie when I was young。 So those since creep me out and I always change the name of thw doll into Ann。 Even though I haven't watch that movie, which is said to be truw to story。Okay back to the story, at first I didn't recognize Matt having a mental illness。 So as the truth unfolds I started realizing every reasons of his and his parents action。Sorry for rating it two but I just felt empty while reading it or maybe mental illness is too complex for me。 。。。more

I was so enticed I didn’t even want to read another book; I didn’t want to pull away。 There were a lot of times that I was compelled to cry but I always stopped reading before the waterworks came。 I don’t know if this is reading how people with schizophrenia are but I loved the story

Not for me。 Transparent。 Too similar to many other stories。

I loved this book, a beautifully written account of the struggles of coping with loss, mental health and realisation。 A heartwarming, funny and sad story of a journey through life。 This sits in my top 10 of books。
