Summary

In Perfect on Paper, Leah on the Offbeat meets To All the Boys I've Loved Before: a bisexual girl who gives anonymous love advice to her classmates is hired by the hot guy to help him get his ex back

Her advice, spot on。 Her love life, way off。

Darcy Phillips:
• Can give you the solution to any of your relationship woes―for a fee。
• Uses her power for good。 Most of the time。
• Really cannot stand Alexander Brougham。
• Has maybe not the best judgement when it comes to her best friend, Brooke…who is in love with someone else。
• Does not appreciate being blackmailed。

However, when Brougham catches her in the act of collecting letters from locker 89―out of which she’s been running her questionably legal, anonymous relationship advice service―that’s exactly what happens。 In exchange for keeping her secret, Darcy begrudgingly agrees to become his personal dating coach―at a generous hourly rate, at least。 The goal? To help him win his ex-girlfriend back。

Darcy has a good reason to keep her identity secret。 If word gets out that she’s behind the locker, some things she's not proud of will come to light, and there’s a good chance Brooke will never speak to her again。

Okay, so all she has to do is help an entitled, bratty, (annoyingly hot) guy win over a girl who’s already fallen for him once? What could go wrong?

I'm really happy to see more stories that are addressing biphobia and internalized biphobia。 It makes me reflect back on the years and remember seeing negative reviews because the bisexual character ended up with the opposite gender。 Its been a breath a fresh air seeing more people realizing that thought process was wrong and that bi characters are still queer regardless of their partner's gender identity。This story deals with the Darcy Phillips, a bisexual girl who runs a relationship advice se I'm really happy to see more stories that are addressing biphobia and internalized biphobia。 It makes me reflect back on the years and remember seeing negative reviews because the bisexual character ended up with the opposite gender。 Its been a breath a fresh air seeing more people realizing that thought process was wrong and that bi characters are still queer regardless of their partner's gender identity。This story deals with the Darcy Phillips, a bisexual girl who runs a relationship advice service at school。 She's been able to keep this a secret, minus her sister, even from her best friend。 That is until a fellow classmates discovers her identity。 She's then blackmailed into helping him win back his ex-girlfriend。Its a pretty common rom-com kind of book。 I would say however, it deals with more Darcy's relationship with her identity more, which will be fine for many and others may dislike。 There were a lot of things I wished were fleshed out more, like Darcy and her insecurities, the relationships with her parents, maybe some more information on Brougham's ex girlfriend, and a few other thing。 Darcy was definitely was written to be a flawed character who makes mistakes, but I didn't really feel sorry for many things that happened to her。 Honestly, I'm surprised no one caught her sooner at the locker。Some strong points of the book are the representation with Darcy and its side characters, most who are apart of the LGBTQA+。 I really enjoyed seeing Darcy get flustered over her best friend, but come to terms that maybe they aren't perfect together。 The banter with Darcy and Brougham was truly adorable, and those who know me will vouch I love bantering characters。Its an overall cute queer YA book, one that reminds its audience that being bisexual is valid and you are not any less for dating someone who is the opposite gender of you。 。。。more

OH MY GOD。 this is such an AWESOME BOOK。 I definitely reccomend it! The plot was wonderful, and i loved the concept that once darcy learned so much about a topic she used it to do something wonderful! When i read it i just wanted more and more and i was so GOOD。 I love all the queer rep。 and darcys feelinsg about feeling less queer and her speech about biphobia made me cry。 i love this book so much and I definitely recommend!!!

Perfect on Paper was a cute and fuzzy story with a lot of diversity and representation。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 Darcy Phillips gives anonymous advice using Locker 89。 You put a letter and some money in the locker, you receive a solution to your relationship problem。 Simple, right? Except it isn’t quite that simple。 At least not for Darcy。 She has a couple of secrets she’s been keeping and they are not exactly ethical… She is caught against the wall, or better -- in the locker collecting letters Perfect on Paper was a cute and fuzzy story with a lot of diversity and representation。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 Darcy Phillips gives anonymous advice using Locker 89。 You put a letter and some money in the locker, you receive a solution to your relationship problem。 Simple, right? Not at all。 It was a great read, with plenty of action, Disneyland, and some sassy and sarcastic sense of humour, which I loved。 Another reader called it gay highschooler chaos, and I agree and was here for it! I genuinely liked all of the characters, even with their flaws and secrets。 It had a “To All The Boys” feel with a queer twist, and it was a really great read。 I received an eARC from NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press/Wednesday Books in exchange for a fair and honest review, and I’d like to thank them for the copy。 。。。more

I loved the diversity and inclusion in this book。 This was such an interesting look at high school life。 And that the most popular boy in school is gay - awesome! I loved the relationship that Darcy had with her sister。 They were so there for each other, even though her sister was a little grabby with the makeup samples。 Lol It was so interesting how seriously Darcy took her advice to the lovelorn。 I’ve never heard of attachment styles before and it was pretty cool to learn about。 I loved the wh I loved the diversity and inclusion in this book。 This was such an interesting look at high school life。 And that the most popular boy in school is gay - awesome! this book really struck home for me。 having a complex bi main character like Darcy who is so engaging and likable, yet imperfect and even fragile at times, was the bi rep I NEEDED in my life。 what I would’ve given to read a book like this when I was in high school, but man I’m glad it exists now。 everyone say thank you Sophie Gonzalez 💕 I feel VALIDATED

This book was wonderful。 I felt so seen。 It was hilarious as hell。 Great banter。 Deadpan humor。 I was laughing out loud。 I was hesitant about picking up a high school romance, but when I head this one was about Bi erasure AND had Disneyland in it I had to pick it up。 I am so glad I did。 This is the best high school romance I’ve ever read。 The Disneyland scenes were perfect。 I know most people won’t care about this but it was actually one of the reasons I put the book off so long。 I was afraid th This book was wonderful。 I felt so seen。 It was hilarious as hell。 Great banter。 Deadpan humor。 I was laughing out loud。 I was hesitant about picking up a high school romance, but when I head this one was about Bi erasure AND had Disneyland in it I had to pick it up。 I am so glad I did。 This is the best high school romance I’ve ever read。 The Disneyland scenes were perfect。 I know most people won’t care about this but it was actually one of the reasons I put the book off so long。 I was afraid the Disney scenes were not going to be good or accurate (Disneyland nerd here)。 But the Disneyland chapter was absolutely perfect。 I felt all things I was supposed to feel。 I could see, smell, hear and feel all the things I was supposed to in that chapter。 I think it was my favorite chapter。 It was also hilarious。 Also。 This book was so very very Bi。 From the first chapter I was feeling all the same feelings and thoughts as Darcy。 I was right there with her in all her fear and confusion and internalized Bi-phobia and wondering if she belonged。 The way it was handled was beautiful and perfect and so well written。 This book made me laugh so hard and it made me cry with how much I felt seen。 I wish I had this book in my life when I was in high school。 I highly recommend this book to anyone。 Thank you so much Sophie Gonzales for writing this book。 。。。more

When writing this I’ve read 895 romance books and this is the first one where the main character is bisexual, not counting one m+m book where a guy identified as bi but there wasn’t more than one sentence about it。 That is crazy! I love how the author decided to write about being in an m+f relationship as bi。 There is so much stigma about this! So this book was refreshing, to say the least。 Kudos to the author for writing this! With that said。 I liked it, but didn’t love it。 The story was so-so。 The characters seemed a bit clueless。 Darcy seemed to had so much knowledge, but too little self-awareness to imply it on herself。 Which is realistic, I guess。 I didn’t really like anything about Brooke or Ray。 They were egotistical and didn’t show much compassion。 Brougham was probably the best character of them all。 Anyway。 3 stars。 。。。more

I don’t think I enjoyed this one as much as Only Mostly Devastated but I did still really enjoy it and had a hard time putting it down。 I thought it dealt with a lot of topics dealing with sexuality and relationships quite well。

Gonzales's Only Mostly Devastated was a stronger overall read, but Perfect on Paper is pretty much its peer in terms of feel-good, rom-com YA (without the hidden emotional punch of its predecessor)。 I felt that it was a bit longer than the plot merited, but the fun narration and dialogue, coupled with the important themes and messages, mostly make up for the story occasionally dragging its feet。 The central romance was a little weird to me in the beginning simply because the presentation of the Gonzales's Only Mostly Devastated was a stronger overall read, but Perfect on Paper is pretty much its peer in terms of feel-good, rom-com YA (without the hidden emotional punch of its predecessor)。 I felt that it was a bit longer than the plot merited, but the fun narration and dialogue, coupled with the important themes and messages, mostly make up for the story occasionally dragging its feet。 The central romance was a little weird to me in the beginning simply because the presentation of the love interest was a bit strange (he seemed a little surly and manipulative for no reason other than to mislead the protagonist into thinking that he was a jerk), but once the story passed that part, it had some of the more genuine and wonderful interactions between two people falling in love that I've read in a while。 I don't know why it's such a rare occurrence (and therefore such a big deal) for two characters to just talk naturally to each other in a story, but the encounters between Darcy and Brougham in the second half of the book felt seriously charming and honest。 Thank you, Ms。 Gonzales。 Predictable and cute, but filled with enough sincerity and humor to make the more generic qualities of the book shine, Perfect on Paper is a solid entry in the YA contemporary romance genre and an especially welcome piece of bisexual representation。 3。5 stars。 。。。more
