Summary

I’ve already mentally prepared myself to kill the screaming, murderous monster in the cage outside our camp。

I’m used to it。 It’s what I do here。 Kill monsters and other people。 And this monster, Seraph, is particularly unstable—has been since the moment he arrived from Collector Mary’s monster menagerie to the west, where the military stashed him away。

He’s in pain。 I can see it。 But he’s not a mindless beast。 Not like some of the others think。

When I start guarding him in his cage every night, I begin to see the person beneath the agony that tortures his every waking moment。 I begin to see who Seraph could have been if he hadn’t been twisted into this monstrous creature。

I realise that I wouldn’t be able to bring myself to kill him, even for his own sake, but it doesn’t matter anyway。 He’s already dying, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it。 Not even when new visitors at our raider camp bring with them secrets about Seraph。 Secrets the military has tried to hide。

Secrets that reveal the true extent of the horror he’s been put through。

And now… Now, I will kill anyone who tries to hurt him again。

Did I think before reading this book that a many eyed, sharp toothed, rabid monster was going to cross my internal line for what is too weird for me to accept as a romantic main character? Yes。 Was I wrong? Also yes。Once again Lily Mayne proves that I can and will love the wildest creatures she can come up with。 This book was so adorable and sweet。 It was bittersweet and heart-wrenching in places, but all in the best possible way。 Lilac and Seraph are so perfect together and really bring out the best in each other。Lily Mayne is not known for shying away from trauma in her characters and their backstories, but she really leaned into it with Lilac and Seraph。 Lilac's patience, love, and care with Seraph as he healed and learned control was so important。 But the violence both Seraph and Lilac are known for also wasn't shied away from。 I liked that Lilac stayed true to the character we've gotten to know through the rest of the series, violence and all。 He is very protective and is not afraid to kill monsters or people if those he loves are being threatened。 Seraph grew so much through the book。 At the beginning he is in so much pain and can't control his rage and outbursts, but with time and help and as the pain lessens, he becomes such a gentle (but still very protective) character。 He grows into being soft and quiet and very caring。Lilac's past as a sex worker gave a lot of depth to the physical relationship between him and Seraph。 I really appreciated that he understood the benefit of and need for physical closeness without sex。 I also loved getting to check in on all the characters from previous books in the Monstrous series and see them all come together。 There were so many relationships formed in this book outside of the main romance, it really starts to feel like a family/community。Thank you so much to Lily Mayne for the ARC copy of Seraph! As always I can't wait to see what comes next in the series! 。。。more

Another absolutely fucking incredible book from Lily Mayne。 Seriously, this was so emotional and sweet and scorching hot。 I loved Seraph and Lilac so so much。 Plus, it was fun to get so much of the other Monstrous couples。

How does Lily Mayne consistently create such adorable couples? 🤯It’s seriously some kind of magic。I’ll be honest, I was a bit worried going into this one that it might be the end of the line for me and monster romances。 I wasn’t sure how a many-eyed monster with sharp teeth was going to pull off being a romantic lead。 I’m so happy to have been wrong!Lily Mayne does an exquisite job building trust in relationships。 It’s one of the reasons why you have to wait so long in each book to get to what f How does Lily Mayne consistently create such adorable couples? 🤯It’s seriously some kind of magic。I’ll be honest, I was a bit worried going into this one that it might be the end of the line for me and monster romances。 I wasn’t sure how a many-eyed monster with sharp teeth was going to pull off being a romantic lead。 I’m so happy to have been wrong!Lily Mayne does an exquisite job building trust in relationships。 It’s one of the reasons why you have to wait so long in each book to get to what feels like the heart of the romance。 Seraph is a love story between a monster with severe trauma and a man who sees through the pain to the person within。 We see Seraph’s recovery through the eyes of Lilac, a man who, while incredibly loyal and protective of the people he loves, keeps to himself for the most part。 Lilac isn’t interested in non-stop socialization, but he feels a strong connection with the monster his friends are trying to help。 Even when Seraph tends to lash out in pain。 Even when Seraph may die。With Seraph, by the time we even start thinking about Seraph as a romantic partner, a lot of bonding between him and Lilac had been established。 Seraph is certainly the least human looking of all the monsters in the Monstrous series, and that’s not shied away from, but the focus is definitely on how these characters understand and care for each。 Not to mention, Seraph has a heart of gold。Though I didn’t connect with the sex scenes the way I normally do (this book really does push the envelope in terms of my personal sexual boundaries), I loved how sex was discussed throughout the book。 I appreciated how considerate Lilac was of all his sexual partners。 Even though they hadn’t been exclusive, Lilac took the time to let a partner know when he wanted to end their casual relationship and be exclusive with someone else。 Lilac, maybe because he’d been a sex worker previously, was also perceptive to Seraph’s anxieties about his body and sex。 I loved the way Lilac communicated with Seraph about how there were no expectations, that he loved Seraph’s body, and that he wanted Seraph sexually if Seraph also wanted that。 I adored getting to see all the friendships between the monsters and their partners play out as time went on。 Friendship are so important, and I love that Lily has been fleshing them out and building on them throughout this series。 No one in the group of monster-human couples takes each other for granted, they all respect each other (even if grudgingly—looking at you Old Man Wyn), and they show their care through actions。 Even when they disagreed, everyone was looking out for each other’s best interests。 That makes my heart happy。 Also Wyn being a drama bitch made my life that much better 🤣If you like sweet characters who love fiercely, protect each other, and work to overcome barriers of trauma and language, you should read this book。 。。。more

Or is there a way to give him the life he’s never had? Seraph- well。 He hurts。 It all hurts。 And there’s no way to make it stop。 Except the beautiful masked man with the machete and the ponytail treats him like a person。 So Maybe he doesn’t want it all to end。 Maybe he wants to fight it because just maybe one person is worth it。 ••••This story was so heartfelt and well written。 Seraph was the most monstrous of the monsters and Lilac the most closed off of the raiders but it worked。 Their story was not at all conventional but it was real and it was deep。 I loved every moment of this journey。 Especially seeing that you get to see some *wink wink* fan favorites So like。 5 screaming stars。 ⭐️4。7/5🌶3。5/5😢3。9/5Review also available on tiktok at this link🖤https://www。tiktok。com/t/ZTR56WYES/ 。。。more

Aaamazing Gah where to begin?!? Seraph absolutely exceeded my expectations。 Seraph is a perfect blend of both ragey & sweet sugar muffin, I just loved him! Of course it goes without saying that Lilac already had the hearts of the Monstrous Fandom。 While my love of Edin & Wyn is solid and I think it’d be extremely difficult to dethrone those two Seraph now sits near the top of my favorites list。 I truly can’t recommend this series enough。

I shouldn’t have worried because this story was just wonderful and exceeded all my expectations。 This pulled me through the whole gamut of emotions。 There were hilarious parts, tense parts。 Parts that made my heart melt, and others that were simply heartbreaking。 Both their back stories were hard to read。 But it made everything that came after so much more special。 While this would technically work as a stand-alone, there’s so much leading up to this that, in my opinion, shouldn’t be missed by skipping the previous books。 Besides, they’re all fantastic, so it’s no hardship。 This takes place at the same time as the previous book, Moth。 I loved catching up with the characters from previous books and adored their interactions。 And it was cool to see things I’d read about previously through a different pov。 I loved every second of this。 I felt almost bereft when I was done。 I didn’t want to leave these guys。 So I went straight back in for a re-read。 Then another one, lol。 I would wholeheartedly recommend this, and I can’t wait to see where this fab and unique series goes next。 。。。more

The killer? In love? No way! I guess the first point is that if you haven't read the first 6 novels (five plus a novella), you can still read this one, but you do yourself a disservice because so much of the world-building, plot points, and context were laid out in the previous books。 So would not recommend。 Also, BACK AWAY from this review because SPOILERS! Okay onto the story。。。This one isn't so much a continuation of Moth, but rather a story happening simultaneously。 While Moth and Charlie are off on their adventures, Lilac is growing more and more obsessed with the screaming creature locked in the box。 Who is he? How did he get this way? What's in the syringes? What will happen when they run out? Why is he weirdly hot? You know, normal people thoughts。As we delve further into the unraveling of the mystery that is Seraph, and how he came to be, it adds another layer of heartbreak to this already decimated world。 You realise monsters aren't always what they seem。 Lilac is like the fierce mama bear。 He will tear the world apart for Seraph, and Seraph。。。well, he just needs to be protected at all costs。 There's an innocence to his character and despite everything he's been through (I guarantee you will rage at the literary gods when you read it), he's a gentle soul。 Sure he can get a little ragey, but hey, he's earned that right if you ask me。 I loved this one。 It felt like a little detour to tie up a lose end we had just dangling there。 Lilac is fierce and apologizes to no one for being himself。 The bromance between Gloam and Seraph was a delight, and seeing Wyn in all his grumpy old man glory, pretending like he has no feelings, when he cares a whole lot, had me laughing out loud on various occasions。 Who would have thought Wyn, and not Edin, would be the comedic relief in this one。 Let it be known, Lilac's internal monologue when he meets Chuck is 5/5。 No notes。 I absolutely adore this series。 The characters, world-building, the found family。 There's so much joy to be found amongst all the ugly。 It's a nice reminder that life isn't all bad。 And the monster lovin' is hot。 Sue me。 *shrugs*ARC review 。。。more

If you’re not a fan of monster romance at this point, then it can only be because you’ve never read Lily Mayne。 I have read every book so far in her Monstrous series—and loved every one of them—so I am well aware of this author’s considerable skill as a writer。 Yet even knowing that, somehow I was still surprised at just how good this book really is。 Lily Mayne has surpassed all of my admittedly high expectations for this book。 She has managed to take what was arguably one of the most monstrous If you’re not a fan of monster romance at this point, then it can only be because you’ve never read Lily Mayne。 I have read every book so far in her Monstrous series—and loved every one of them—so I am well aware of this author’s considerable skill as a writer。 Yet even knowing that, somehow I was still surprised at just how good this book really is。 Lily Mayne has surpassed all of my admittedly high expectations for this book。 She has managed to take what was arguably one of the most monstrous of the monsters so far and turn him into what I believe will be the most beloved。 Over the course of this series, we’ve seen these monster characters go from scary and strange to, in many cases, being more humane than the humans。 Seraph’s transformation in this book from screaming, rampaging beast to intelligent, compassionate, and loving partner had me glued to the page。 It was an absolute delight to read。 I completely adore Seraph! And I am shipping Seraph and Lilac so hard! There’s so much more to the character of Lilac—who until now has been mostly shrouded in mystery—than we’d previously seen。 He is far from the emotionless killer that he portrays himself as to the majority of the raider camp。 A man of honor, loyalty, and self sacrifice, he loves deeply and will do anything to protect those he loves。 This is one of the most romantic, emotional, and heartfelt love stories I’ve ever read。 And it makes absolutely zero difference that one of them is a monster。 Love is love, and theirs is a prime example of that。 And as a major bonus, the couples from the previous books are also featured quite a bit, which gives the reader the chance to further view the relationships of these couples with each other and with the rest of the camp。 It’s fascinating to see how much some of these characters have changed since we first met them。 I’m looking at you Soul Eater! There’s truly just nothing not to love about this book, and I highly recommend it! 。。。more

And indeed, I guess it's my own fault for being in the author's FB group where anyone can post anything。 That's on me。2) I had been expecting SO much of this book。 Lily's previous books in the Monstrous series have had these insanely amazing plot twists, characters, arcs and what not。 Just everything。 Simply amazing。 Monstrous as a series I will DIE for。 However, this book focuses more on the two main characters and how their life in the camp proceeds。 If I would've been receptive to the big plot twists and not having been spoiled, I could have possibly found myself more fascinated。 I wanted to love this book so hard, and yeah, that was also my downfall caused by myself。 Honestly breaks my heart a little to be this mean because I love the series so much。That being said, have you read the five previous books in Monstrous? Then you damn well better read this one too。 I'm not sure if not reading it will affect the rest of the series at all, but it will probably be nice。THE STORY ITSELF:The story itself didn't really call out to me in this book, as it was quite serious and a little moody, which I usually *LOVE*, but somehow we never tipped any scales this time around。 It's a very steady stream of slight angst and events。E。g。 compared to Moth, the previous book in Monstrous, they go on a literal journey, of COURSE it wouldn't have had the same excitement/element to the story at all as if they would -not- go on a journey。The plot is clear and well presented, definitely a readable story。The spicy scenes were not interesting for me personally, again, kind of felt like the steamy scenes stagnated a little。THE AUTHOR:Lily as an author is amazing, clear, interesting and has an exciting way of writing。 Clever humor and not tropey/cliché at any turn。 I fully recommend anything Lily has written, and although Seraph will (probably) never be my personal favourite, it's still perfectly readable and YOU might love it a whole ton like I know that most who have read Seraph honestly do。 。。。more

WOW! Ok。 My first time reviewing a book on this platform and I am so excited and thrilled that it is about Seraph。 I won't put any plot or series spoilers here because I don't enjoy reading those myself--- but I will try to offer a summary that showcases what this book was for me。 First off- this series is hands down my favourite world to dive into in reading and dreaming。 One of my favourite parts about each installation in this series is how the world functions like a magnolia plot--the storie WOW! Ok。 My first time reviewing a book on this platform and I am so excited and thrilled that it is about Seraph。 I won't put any plot or series spoilers here because I don't enjoy reading those myself--- but I will try to offer a summary that showcases what this book was for me。 First off- this series is hands down my favourite world to dive into in reading and dreaming。 One of my favourite parts about each installation in this series is how the world functions like a magnolia plot--the stories and characters overlap and shift, with each pair taking time in the foreground with each book but as a reader I deepen my relationship with the rest of the cast of characters and grow my perspective with them as the stories progress。 Seraph is a real gem in this series for a few reasons。 Firstly, the plot functions a little differently than previous stories (trying to not spoil things here)。 I enjoyed this- that there was a more introspective tone within Lilac that suited his character and what we've been shown of him。 Secondly, there was a darker tone in the book overall too, which I thought was a gentle step away after the sweetness of Moth and the tenderness in Gloam。 Seraph's narration is a different energy (all the Monstrous books have such a different voice though, it's one of my favourite parts of the story), and that energy builds to a crescendo that is as internal as well as external。 Additionally, aside from the relationship dynamic that builds in Seraph, a favourite part of this book for me were the different tender windows into the other (beloved) characters that surround Lilac, and the shifts we see in the MCs as affected by the community that is around them。 Overall I adored this book- the texture of writing was different because Lilac's head is a unique place to be- and now I can't wait to see what comes next。 I think of these books as episodic and that each installation has a special focus, but overall we are seeing the world-building grow and grow, and the magnitude of what Lily's setting up really gets the high-fantasy nerd in me excited because I can see the epic potential for down the line!Seraph is tender, warm, and full of quiet risks。 The trauma-brained/past-self part of me spent the days I read the book feeling like every moment of my waking life was somehow WITH Lilac-- as if the story was breathing around me, and when I went back to reading it I was going back to my real life。 This was honestly such a gift because I felt myself grow a little too by the end of the story, and I can't wait to reread the series in order to get all the little secrets and tidbits I might have missed leading up into Seraph。If you haven't read the previous books, please do that before this one! Like I said, the tone is a divestment from prior books' patterns/event-sequences, but in a refreshing way, that brings us further into the story's 'brain' so to speak and lets us engage with all the internal growth that unfurls as you progress in Seraph。 Thank you Lily for this wonderful new episode into the Monstrous world。 The characters feel so real to me, like my friends, and I love that this book brought me that same relatability in a fresh way。:) 。。。more

So beware if you are not one to handle anguish well, because this book is nerve-wracking from cover to cover。 From the very beginning with Seraph’s anguished cries and Lilac being unspeakably drawn to him。 To the very end of this HEA, and to the beginning of the next adventure awaiting them just beyond the sunset。 To start with, we slowly realize that Seraph, the character, is a full being, a him, a person, a I was given an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review! This book was so very angsty! Other wonderful characters in the spotlight were;Gloam: in full parent mode (yes really)WYN: in full asshole mode (but underneath that hissing black coat is a big mushy heart) Aury: The Rycke himself, had a very momentous connection with another character (mwhahahaa)And of course RIG! The true MVP in my eyes!!!!! (We all know what he did even if Lilac was oblivious in the beginning hahaaa!!) All-in-all Seraph, the book, contained a lot of heat, ALOT of tears, and a tiiiny bit of murder。 But hey, that’s kinda why we love these guys right?! 。。。more

This book。。。this book was so good。 My heart broke for Seraph。 Lilac and Seraph's relationship was so beautiful and really pulled on all of my emotions。 I've been looking forward to Lilac's story, curious as to what made him the way he was。 I am happy to say that this did not disappoint。 This one is very much character focused。 The writing is as beautiful as ever。 And the "monster" is as much of a cinnamon roll as the previous ones。 It's hard to say much else about the story without giving spoile This book。。。this book was so good。 My heart broke for Seraph。 Lilac and Seraph's relationship was so beautiful and really pulled on all of my emotions。 I've been looking forward to Lilac's story, curious as to what made him the way he was。 I am happy to say that this did not disappoint。 This one is very much character focused。 The writing is as beautiful as ever。 And the "monster" is as much of a cinnamon roll as the previous ones。 It's hard to say much else about the story without giving spoilers。 Simply put, if you have enjoyed (or loved, like me) the other books in this series then you will love this book。 It's a little bit of a slow start but that's to be expected with the way Seraph is at the beginning。 The book starts out when Charlie and Moth leave the compound (if you read Moth's book, you'll understand that)。 I think this is the most emotional book in the series。 I also loved Wyn even more in this one。 Seriously, he will make you fall even more in love with him here。 The found family is so strong and beautiful and one of my favorite parts of this series。 。。。more

I fall harder with every book for this series。 All the stars!!!Lily Mayne is amazingly talented author, while Seraph is the 6th book in the series (and I can’t recommend to read them as standalone) each book in the series are different and unique。This was - Low angst - or less actions - Slow( ish) burn- Emotional with two very sensitive and kind MCs- Great turn over - character transformation- Taming the beast - Kind of kinky - The main focus on the characters and the relationship development An I fall harder with every book for this series。 All the stars!!!Lily Mayne is amazingly talented author, while Seraph is the 6th book in the series (and I can’t recommend to read them as standalone) each book in the series are different and unique。This was - Low angst - or less actions - Slow( ish) burn- Emotional with two very sensitive and kind MCs- Great turn over - character transformation- Taming the beast - Kind of kinky - The main focus on the characters and the relationship development And like the previous books- Monster MC with unique anatomy - Tentative steps and longing - Found family - More world building - Hot- Possessiveness - Dystopian setting - Epic main and side characters - Surprise cameos - Together forever and a bit more- Best HEA with the promise of more of Seraph & LilacLilac was so interesting well before he got his own story, I couldn’t wait to see his real self, because that was clear that what we saw about him was just the tiny part of the whole picture。 I loved his personality and how turned his protectiveness from the camp to Seraph。 I loved his loyalty and cold determination。“I liked Seraph。 Who he was now。 I liked his little beastly sounds—the chuff he let out when he saw me, his snarly sighs of pleasure when he ate or settled under his blankets。 His wheezy, snorting laugh。 I liked his grotesque smile。 I liked his scent and the textured feel of his tough skin。 I liked all his eyes, so expressive and interesting to look into。 His rangy body and long fingers and wide mouth。”Seraph is quickly became one of my top favorite monsters。 He needs to be protected from everyone 😃 he is the sweetest MC ever, and it’s not surprising that everyone wants him to be safe and happy。 “HE’S WATCHING ME AGAIN THE ONE WITH THE DEAD GREEN EYES HE NEVER SPEAKS I NEED HELP PLEASE”“I had been wrong before。 His green eyes weren’t dead。 He shielded most of himself from others, didn’t let them see much, but when he looked at me, he showed me everything。”The first part of the book was full of uncertainty and I had no idea where the story will take me。 And I was tricked so hard by the Author that’s not even funny with one of Lilac’s scene。 OMG I felt so rookie 😂 I hope you all will be fooled too。 I can’t wait your comments about it😄The second part was where all the emotions could flower and it was beautiful and very satisfying, in every way。 。。。more

Seraph, the most monstrous of all the monsters。。 out of his mind, an experiment, locked in a cage whilst he screams in agony or rage。。 no one is really sure。 They rescued him from the clutches of the evil Mary and are certain when the injections the military had Mary giving him run out he will die or need to be killed。 But Lilac, the sweet sweet assassin man of the raider camp decides he is going to be with the monster until the end, even if that end is him having to kill him。 I wasn’t prepared Seraph, the most monstrous of all the monsters。。 out of his mind, an experiment, locked in a cage whilst he screams in agony or rage。。 no one is really sure。 They rescued him from the clutches of the evil Mary and are certain when the injections the military had Mary giving him run out he will die or need to be killed。 But Lilac, the sweet sweet assassin man of the raider camp decides he is going to be with the monster until the end, even if that end is him having to kill him。 I wasn’t prepared for the emotional and gut wrenching emotions their story would evoke。 The slow and mostly silent connection these two make is just everything 😌 The best part though? All of our boys, except Charlie and Moth, are there。 All banding together and forming a very soft spot for the scariest of the monsters。 All these beasties basically adopt Seraph as the son they need to protect and it was so endearingly sweet I couldn’t handle it。 Especially, our grumpy boy Wyn。。 the soul eater has a soft spot outside of Danny and its Seraph making him all protector daddy 😅There were so many points in Lilac and Seraphs book that had me going “omggg I didn’t even know I needed that question answered” !! Lily definitely has a way of creating an intricately connected world and this instalment fits in perfectly。 。。。more

That little SHIT。“Just wondering if all humans refer to getting finger-fucked by a rabid splice as guarding。”As Seraph and Lilac grow closer, I fell head over heels in love with their need for intimacy; Not just for sex but how they were both just so touch starved and were perfectly content to just exist in each others presence。 But in true Lily fashion, we DO get some pretty damn spicy scenes, so don’t think those aren’t here。 They absolutely ARE。 But anyways, I highly, HIGHLY recommending giving these two a chance because this book will absolutely break your heart, but will also put it back together。 。。。more

Tiny Smoke Man。 That is all。 Omg。 Can I just start out by saying that I went into this book not really knowing how I was going to feel about it, but left this book with all of the feels。 Learning not just Seraphs backstory, but also Lilacs was something that explained so much to me。 My poor baby Seraph。 I wanted to take him home and cuddle him this entire book。 And Lilac was so different than I thought that he would be while also being exactly what I expected。 The relationship that he built with Tiny Smoke Man。 That is all。 Omg。 Can I just start out by saying that I went into this book not really knowing how I was going to feel about it, but left this book with all of the feels。 Learning not just Seraphs backstory, but also Lilacs was something that explained so much to me。 My poor baby Seraph。 I wanted to take him home and cuddle him this entire book。 And Lilac was so different than I thought that he would be while also being exactly what I expected。 The relationship that he built with Seraph before anything even went in the romantic direction was truly a beautiful foundation。 Probably the most solid and hard earned one so far。 Their intimacy was so deep on all levels。 And when they would come together, you wanted to say “awe” and fan yourself at the same time。 The past main characters that made appearances in this book were equally important as well, because I got to see different sides to them too because of Lilac and Seraph。 Wyn was already my little monster baby, but now I love him even more。 I cried so much during this book。 I also laughed, got angry, got sad, got overheated, got everything。 This book made me feel deeply and captured my heart in the process。 I can’t recommend it enough。 。。。more
