In the future, 2987, the earth united as one, putting aside differences。 This however was both willingly and forced。 It was in 'the invasion of 2983' that 'the enemy' first appeared。 It was hard for people to accept that an alternate earth was created in the 'big bang。' They had an alternate history。 They united earlier, but on worse terms。 They were ruled by a monarchy with na<_>zi beliefs。 When they finished conquering their planet, they sought ours, the only one with life forms like theirs。 We were nearly defeated before a scientist sought soldiers from an alternate source: our furry friends, the animals。 With genetic engineering, we gave them apposable thumbs and a will。 Those like the dogs were more than willing to help。 They seemed to think of us as go<_>ds。 Cats and wolves were willing in exchange for priveleges。 Cats, creature comforts, money and the rights to spend it。 Wolves, equality once the war was over。 The other species had their own ideas and objectives。 The military agreed and started the P。E。T。 (Prevention of Eternal Terrorism) program。 There are two man teams: a human, and an animal soldier。 We have retaken earth。 Now, the only way to end this war is to ensure total victory。。。or accept total defeat。 As for weaponry, we have advanced to laser and plasma。 There is no ammunition clips。。。except with special ammo。 Acid, incendiary, explosive, I。C。E。, plastic and electrical。 Otherwise, the only limit is overheating。 Your at the map。 Your files are result 2。 The interaction center is result 3。 This has a lounge, kitchen and briefing center。 Result 4 is the building where the science counsel and the council of leaders。 Result 5 is the current warzone。

It was fun to get back to the 80s for this book。 I also enjoyed the New Orleans plantation and swamp setting, a bit southern gothic with the mystery and strange disapperance in the creepy swamp。 Excellent writing as always。

Good mystery。 Lots of discription that didn't seem necessary or could have been done in a not do heavy manner。 Description of feelings gone into way to many times, at least for me。 I go =t the idea the fir one or two time。 Did a lot of skipping in order to finish it。

3 Stars。I have read several Nora Roberts books and most of them are really good。 Partners however, took me a long time to finish, especially the last 40-50 pages。 I felt there was not character development and the end of story was very predictable from the very beginning。

Not rating this because it was just too dated, does not stand the test of time。 But you could already see the author, La Nora, would be even in the early 80s。 Not rating this because it was just too dated, does not stand the test of time。 But you could already see the author, La Nora, would be even in the early 80’s。 。。。more

Matthew Bates, a reporter for a New Orleans newspaper, is partnered in a possible murder story with fellow reporter Laurel Armand。 The two often verbally spar in the office, but must work together when a woman implores them to investigate her sister Annes untimely death。 Nora excels in her ability to build a setting with this mystery set in the Lousiana bayou。 To hear a full discussion of Partners listen to Season 1, Ep。 #15 "Nora Roberts: The Mysteries of 1985" of Romancing the Shelf, a Nora Matthew Bates, a reporter for a New Orleans newspaper, is partnered in a possible murder story with fellow reporter Laurel Armand。 The two often verbally spar in the office, but must work together when a woman implores them to investigate her sister Anne’s untimely death。 Nora excels in her ability to build a setting with this mystery set in the Lousiana bayou。 To hear a full discussion of Partners listen to Season 1, Ep。 #15 "Nora Roberts: The Mysteries of 1985" of Romancing the Shelf, a Nora Roberts podcast: https://romancingtheshelf。libsyn。com/ 。。。more

Nora Roberts' books make me feel good and that's the precise reason I read them。 This too, cheered me up。 I am a hopeless (closet) romantic and stories like these warm my heart。

Meh。

Great readAlways a pleasure to read Nora 。 Such a vivid and endless imagination and such in depth characters that you can't help bring drawn in 。

Linda

I first read this one when I was pregnant with our third child in the 80's----still enjoyed it! The writing style is much the same, great tension between the main characters。 I liked the quick tempo and the New Orleans setting。

I love Nora Robert's and this book was no exception。 The story of a reporter who is approached by someone who believes there sister was killed, though none believes her。 Laurel knows the prime suspect, however this does not stop her investigating! Despite being a story involving murder, as ever witha Nora Robert's book, I find myself wanting to be there

Gail A Ostrove

Matt and Laurel msde perfect partnersThey both dug for the facts and had each other's backs。 Laurel had the advantage of knowing Louis Tulane and was able to help Matt put the prices together。 They would write a Pulitzer prize winning story。

Deb

Much amusement was had reading this (very cheesy) book from 1985 - so much in life has changed from then to now!

Eliana

This book was good。 Wouldn't suggest it to your everyday readers though。 It was good but could also be a bit much at times。 The characters acted oddly though I thought。 "I need you。。 I can't have you," deal。 But that also may be because that's not my style of reading。

Judy Churchill

This was a quick read。 A murder mystery starting right at the beginning。 Nothing deep。

Kathleen Thompson

Always the best!!Story was terrific!! Nora can spin a story like no other。 I love reading her stories。 Thanks for another great ine!!

Loved the leading characters。 Loved the dialogue。 Loved the atmosphere created by the descriptions of the place; you could feel the sultry heat。 Loved that the intimacy in the sex scenes was more about feelings and impressions than graphic descriptions。However, it lacked suspense。 Written in 1985, it now seems rather dated。 Technology has moved on apace ( can't recall when I last saw a typewriter) and attitudes have also changed, especially regarding safe sex!
