More of a reread， but I'm glad to have returned to this book as an adult。 I think Sachar does an excellent job in telling three interrelated stories， one focusing on Stanley's great-grandfather （and the origin of his family's curse）， the history of Greenlake （and the heartbreaking relationship between Kate and Sam）， and Stanley's experience at Camp Greenlake。 The comradery， especially between Stanley and Zero is well-developed。 Of course， as an adult， I find myself even more frustrated with the More of a reread， but I'm glad to have returned to this book as an adult。 I think Sachar does an excellent job in telling three interrelated stories， one focusing on Stanley's great-grandfather （and the origin of his family's curse）， the history of Greenlake （and the heartbreaking relationship between Kate and Sam）， and Stanley's experience at Camp Greenlake。 The comradery， especially between Stanley and Zero is well-developed。 Of course， as an adult， I find myself even more frustrated with the organization of Camp Greenlake， including the unqualified 'counselors。' However， the frustration adds to the experience because Sachar seems to do an excellent job in getting you invested in Stanley and the rest of the boys from D-Tent。 。。。more

I thought it was pretty good。 It wasn’t to bad but definitely nothing you wouldn’t be able to predict。 It did have some good plot twist。 But the ending was for sure something I could have guessed after reading the first page。 I do recommend though。 It had a couple parts where it made me angry but the part of the fun， right？Any who if ur interested in reading it…。 DO IT DOIT NOW！！！！！！

Somehow a book can be published， win a whole bunch of major of awards， even be made into a movie， and you can still be unaware it exists for decades。 I picked up Holes on a whim from a "dollar-a-dozen" book sale because， hey， why stop at ten books when you're paying for twelve？ Only to find that practically everyone in my life has fond memories of this story。Holes is ironic middle-grade magical realism， unpretentious and surprising。 There's a bit of Shawshank Redemption-for-kids vibe to it， but Somehow a book can be published， win a whole bunch of major of awards， even be made into a movie， and you can still be unaware it exists for decades。 I picked up Holes on a whim from a "dollar-a-dozen" book sale because， hey， why stop at ten books when you're paying for twelve？ Only to find that practically everyone in my life has fond memories of this story。Holes is ironic middle-grade magical realism， unpretentious and surprising。 There's a bit of Shawshank Redemption-for-kids vibe to it， but apart from the "unjust accusation leading to incarceration" motif the stories are not similar。 Instead， legends， fate， and family legacies provide a backdrop to determination and a battle of wills over ill-gotten gains vs。 justice， full of twists and turns and improbabilities。 Though it isn't as overt as in Discworld or the Hitchhiker's Guide， this is a narrative that is having fun， mirthful despite the stakes。 Recommended。 。。。more

I remember seeing the movie version of this book years （and years） ago but remembered virtually nothing about it！ Although， it seemed to follow the book pretty well as the story seemed very familiar as it unraveled。 It was a very interesting story and won a ton of awards。 It is a quick read and definitely worthwhile！

This book held up so well。 This is my third time reading it and I enjoyed it as much as the first time。 Stanley is such an easy character to relate/root for。 I enjoyed his growth throughout。 Him becoming friends with the fellow campers and ultimately coming to love who he was and not allow himself to be bullied by others or his own thoughts。 The mystery around the holes still gets me。 I love how it is threaded throughout the story with flashback to past events。 This is definitely a middle grade This book held up so well。 This is my third time reading it and I enjoyed it as much as the first time。 Stanley is such an easy character to relate/root for。 I enjoyed his growth throughout。 Him becoming friends with the fellow campers and ultimately coming to love who he was and not allow himself to be bullied by others or his own thoughts。 The mystery around the holes still gets me。 I love how it is threaded throughout the story with flashback to past events。 This is definitely a middle grade classic to me and now I want to watch the movie。 。。。more
