Summary

King Midas made me the woman I am today。 Notorious。 Unattainable。 His。

The thing about being confined is that you believe it’s to keep the bad out。。。 Until you realize it’s about keeping you in。

I’m now in a strange kingdom surrounded by liars, with no allies of my own, but I won’t sit idly by and let myself wither。 No, there’s something that’s bloomed from the pit of my repression。 Something dark。 Something angry。

But the last thing I expected was for my anger to call out to him。 King Ravinger。

He’s sinister and powerful and entirely too seductive。 I’ve learned my lesson with trusting manipulative kings, so why does my chest constrict every time he’s near? I need to tread carefully, or I’m at risk of losing much more than just my freedom。

Regret and revenge war inside of me, and I need to figure out a plan fast before I get tangled up in the schemes of kings and queens。

Because I won’t be caught in a cage again。 No, this time, It’ll be me setting the trap。。。 I just hope my heart comes out of this unscathed。

Wow! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Wow。 This whole series has been pretty good (FYI: not a romance since there’s yet to be an HEA, and the other books don’t really even have HFN endings) this book really… shone, if you’ll pardon the pun 😉。 Raven Kennedy is an author I’ve been a fan of for a while, and as I was reading Gleam, part of me felt like a proud mother hen。 Her writing has matured and become more deliciously complex in the best ways, and I feel that with Gleam, she’s really showing hints of how her hard wor Wow! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Wow。 This whole series has been pretty good (FYI: not a romance since there’s yet to be an HEA, and the other books don’t really even have HFN endings) this book really… shone, if you’ll pardon the pun 😉。 Raven Kennedy is an author I’ve been a fan of for a while, and as I was reading Gleam, part of me felt like a proud mother hen。 Her writing has matured and become more deliciously complex in the best ways, and I feel that with Gleam, she’s really showing hints of how her hard work and growth is paying off in the best of ways。 I really, really enjoyed this book。 It’s a clever series in many, many senses, but one thing I love is that the fae in these books are otherworldly in many senses, including their somewhat monstrous appearances。 We’re used to the beautiful faeries, rooted in the Irish myths of the Tuatha de Daanan, but here we are given fae that are not just beautiful humans with monstrous natures… they’re actually beastly, and I love it。 It’s a clever way, really, to frame the myth of King Midas。 Playing with the concept of humane and inhumane, human and monster, Kennedy is able to showcase abuse and gaslighting in a way that simultaneously empowers her victim, and makes the reader pause and think about the types of narratives that have controlled their own lives。 After all, there’s all too many King Midases out there, stealing our abilities to be ourselves。 We left Auren in a frustrating situation in the last book, and in this book, we finally get to see her break free of Midas’ embrace。 I loved how Rip was willing to continue to wait for her, and respected all of her decisions, because he won’t take the freedom to decide from her。 But when she chooses him…。 😍🔥🔥🔥🔥 the moment we’ve all been waiting for is darn good。 Sexy, smart, well paced, and interesting, this book is an excellent installment in this series。 You’ll like these books if you’re looking for a fresh take on both Greek retelling and faerie books, or if you’ve read the first two in the series。Spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 4/ 5 and if you like heroes with some dirty words… this is for you。 HEA status: not quite there yet 😉 but I’ll give it a happy for now! CW: gaslighting, abuse (emotional and physical), violence, gore, pregnancy and threats。 。。。more

I don't even know how to review this without spoilers, but I stayed up all night devouring this book, after waiting for it's release for weeks since reading the first 2。 It was 1000% worth the wait。The character progression through this series is insane, particularly for Auren。 I found myself wishing she would embrace the darkness/monster she felt inside herself in her anger and become a straight up villain to give Midas exactly what he deserved, and I was not disappointed。 It was such a great t I don't even know how to review this without spoilers, but I stayed up all night devouring this book, after waiting for it's release for weeks since reading the first 2。 It was 1000% worth the wait。The character progression through this series is insane, particularly for Auren。 I found myself wishing she would embrace the darkness/monster she felt inside herself in her anger and become a straight up villain to give Midas exactly what he deserved, and I was not disappointed。 It was such a great take on the Stockholm-Sydnrome love story trope, and it was so satisfying to see her finally see Midas for who he was and what he'd done to her。 After all the awful abuse she suffered at his hands, particularly in this book, I was rooting for her so hard to rise up and rescue herself。 I did think maybe the dynamic would have been more interesting if the reader wasn't given Midas' perspective through the story, because I really liked the uncertainty of his character in book one seeing him solely through Auren's eyes, and it allowed him to seem more sympathetic。 As soon as chapters from his perspective were added there was no doubt that he was the villain, and that took something away for me。 I quite liked the grey area and not being sure of his intentions。 That was really the only downside for me。The sexual tension between Auren and Rip/Ravinger/Slade was next level (especially since any love she still had for Midas is totally gone, thank goodness) and this book made me love him even more。 His power and the questions still left unanswered (mainly what's up with that village on the land he claimed in the alliance) have me desperate for book 4。Queen Malina's chapters I found pretty boring to be honest, her story just wasn't that interesting compared to everything else going on and I didn't care what happened to her。 I didn't think her perspective added anything at all to the plot。I would have liked more of the Wrath characters and the army camp dynamic, but it wouldn't have really worked plot-wise, so I look forward to more of those characters in book 4。The ending here was so, so good and exactly what I wanted it to be, but I would probably sell my soul for book 4, and I'm crushed I have a whole year to wait。I'm positive we haven't seen the last of Auren, and that Slade will do what he has to to bring her back so they can be the dark+light Fae power couple of my dreams。 I'm interested to see how her powers work/if she has more control now。I couldn't recommend this series enough, it's such a unique premise, great characters and development, and the plot kept surprising me right up to the end。 。。。more

Holy Cannoli!Gleam did not disappoint one freaking bit。 My love for Auren just keeps growing。 Mostly because I couldn't help but ship her with Rip/Slade。 I mean。。 screw Midas。 He's a manipulative asshole that needs to die a very slow and painful death。 The romance had it's steamy moments and the slow burn was completely worth it。 Plus, secrets definitely come out to play and a lot of things are starting to make sense。 I also really enjoyed getting to know what happened to Auren when she was youn Holy Cannoli!Gleam did not disappoint one freaking bit。 My love for Auren just keeps growing。 Mostly because I couldn't help but ship her with Rip/Slade。 I mean。。 screw Midas。 He's a manipulative asshole that needs to die a very slow and painful death。 The romance had it's steamy moments and the slow burn was completely worth it。 Plus, secrets definitely come out to play and a lot of things are starting to make sense。 I also really enjoyed getting to know what happened to Auren when she was younger。 It just made sense why she thought Midas was her protector and stuff but then it also opened her eyes as to how he wasn't。 Oh man, it was so freaking good!I'm not going to lie。 The ending was so good but it would've been better if the Queen didn't see the entire freaking thing。 Not a huge fan of her either but I am proud that Auren has proved to everyone not to fuck with her。 Gold bitches for life。 。。。more

5 StarsThis has been my most anticipated book of 2021 so far。 As soon as this downloaded to my Kindle I had to stay up and devour the whole thing。 Right now this is my only true 5 star review of 2021, (and I believe out of all my Goodreads reviews at the moment) and is by far the best book/release I've read this year。 The second best book being Glint (The Plated Prisoner, #2)。 I can't begin to describe how great this book is。 Raven Kennedy is crafting such an amazing and intricate story。 I find 5 StarsThis has been my most anticipated book of 2021 so far。 As soon as this downloaded to my Kindle I had to stay up and devour the whole thing。 Right now this is my only true 5 star review of 2021, (and I believe out of all my Goodreads reviews at the moment) and is by far the best book/release I've read this year。 The second best book being Glint (The Plated Prisoner, #2)。 I can't begin to describe how great this book is。 Raven Kennedy is crafting such an amazing and intricate story。 I find a lot of series go downhill after the second, and especially third books, but this series keeps getting better and better。 A lot of time in books 1 and 2 is spent building the whole cast of characters。 The first book being a bit like a prologue and the second being when the Auren starts to actually see what she has let Midas do to her。 The story really jumps ahead in this addition and I believe Raven's well thought out world and character building allows each twist/reveal to hit us that much harder。 I was on the edge of my seat reading this。 I was laughing, wanting to cry, and ready to throw my Kindle across the room。 Auren's character develops so much in this book and I love seeing her come into herself。 Her progression has been slow at this point, but I think it's clearly the best way for her story to unfold。 She spend half her life with Midas, there is way too much to unpack there for her character to develop in a quicker way。 Auren is sweet, kind, and so strong。 Also, we finally get what we are waiting for - her relationship with Slade finally develops in the absolute best way。 All this sexual tension (but also a relationship that is so much deeper than just that) comes to a boiling point。 Whew - Raven knows how to write some steamy steamy sex scenes。 It's also perfectly balanced。 The relationship makes the story better, but there is still so much going on with Midas, Malina, and neighboring kingdoms that I'm sticking around for the romance and the plot。 We still get to see our beloved Wrath, even though I do hope we get to see more of them in the next book。 (view spoiler)[Also, Slades brother!! Ahh I have so many questions! (hide spoiler)] I adore Lu and (view spoiler)[love seeing that she also has a bit of power。 I can't wait to see what Judd and Osrik can do/if they also have powers。 (hide spoiler)] For our villains - Midas reaches a level of evil I did not anticipate, I'll be team Melina or anyone who is against him at this point。 I really enjoyed getting his, Slade's (I wish we got more of those though), and Melina's POV chapters。 It provided so much depth to the story, but Auren was clearly still our main character and focus, which I love。While so much happened in this book - (view spoiler)[Auren and Slade finally choosing one another and their relationship development。 Auren finding the book about Fae (although she wasn't able to get into that quite yet)。 Some of Auren's past being revealed to us。 The ribbons - which of my gosh what a gut wrenching scene。 They better grow back!!! Auren coming into her power and dealing with Midas (which can I just say WOOOOO!! Finally!!) And, what I actually predicted/hoped for in my review of Glint - but I think there was some more hinting about Slade and Auren being mates? The whole balcony scenes with Slade talking about how Auren is his good idea and mentioned her aura being a beacon that led him to the pirate ship!!! I had to re-read that so many times ahhh! That whole scene <3。 I wonder if it's some sort of fae mate thing to be able to see each others auras because I did notice she wasn't able to see anything from Slade's brother, who I am assuming is also fully fae? Also, I thought Slade clearly wasn't explaining the whole "fae claiming one another/their tendency to be primal thing" when Auren finally came to his room。 (hide spoiler)]There are still so many questions I have and plot lines left unanswered - (view spoiler)[What will happen with Auren's power now/this "creature" inside her? I have so many questions on all things fae that I can't wait to be revealed in the next books。 Malina still has her map of what she most desires - which is somehow linked to the seventh kingdom。 Third's evil queen (who I was really hoping would be an ally to Auren based on her brother who seemed great!)。 Slade and Auren's relationship and where that will lead/the whole maybe mates thing。 Remember the fae book Auren was reading where there was a picture of a fae couple who appeared to be in love and the word "Päyur"? I wonder what that means。 We still barely know anything about Slade's past, so I'm hoping for some flashbacks/POV chapters for him in the upcoming book。 I also hope we find out more about Auren's past in Annwyn and who her family was。 (hide spoiler)]My only complaints are 1。 I thought the first ~30% was a bit boring。 It took awhile for this story to take off and the first portion of this book was a little low on romance and action。 It was basically Auren being back with Midas and wandering the castle。 I wish Slade, or any of his Wrath, made a few more appearances during that time。 I thought the stall in her and Slade's relationship during this time was a bit pointless。 (view spoiler)[When Auren was making all the plans to escape I wanted to scream at her to involve Slade because he clearly could help her! I do think Kennedy was trying to have Auren grow independently/not have to rely on a man, so I can't complain too much。 (hide spoiler)]I can tell this series is so well planned and thought out。 There are so many the different plot lines going and as more things are revealed we see it all fits together beautifully。 I think that is a huge marker of a great book verses a good book。 This story has so many layers and levels while being so cohesive。 It's a breeze to follow along even though the story is growing in complexity。 The pacing for this book was well done。 Also, I thought the balance between anticipation vs。 execution was perfect。 For example, we have obviously been waiting for Auren to take on Midas for ages now and when she does the scene doesn't disappoint。 I highly recommend this series and cannot wait for book #4。 I’m crossing my fingers hoping that we will get more than 4 books in this series。 There is still so much to unpack I hope the next book isn’t rushed! I would much rather have two (or even more) books left in this series。 。。。more

Gleam is the third book in the Plated Prisoner series by the amazing Raven Kennedy。 The Plated Prisoner series is a dark adult fantasy King Midas retelling, and it also happens to be my newest favorite series of all time。 In case you were wondering, my previous favorite series was the Heart Hassle series, also by Raven Kennedy。 That should tell you all you need to know about her books。 So if you want my short review- here it is: Read Raven Kennedy's books。 She is amazing, this series is amazing Gleam is the third book in the Plated Prisoner series by the amazing Raven Kennedy。 The Plated Prisoner series is a dark adult fantasy King Midas retelling, and it also happens to be my newest favorite series of all time。 In case you were wondering, my previous favorite series was the Heart Hassle series, also by Raven Kennedy。 That should tell you all you need to know about her books。 So if you want my short review- here it is: Read Raven Kennedy's books。 She is amazing, this series is amazing and it has not gotten enough love。 If you need more convincing, read on。 Gleam picks up right where Glint left off, on that crazy cliffhanger。 We travel back to that room with Auren and Commander Rip and I am just as shook as Auren was in that moment。 The cliffhanger at the end of Glint took me totally by surprise and left me unable to think about much else in the months coming up to Gleam's release。 In case you need a quick refresher, Auren is King Midas' favored- his gold touched saddle。 While on the way to meet King Midas his newly acquired fifth kingdom, Auren and the other Saddles were taken by pirates and then intercepted by the feared army of the fourth kingdom- King Rot's army。 While held captive of King Rot's army Auren learned more about freedom and about herself than she ever did while living in the golden luxury of King Midas' court in the sixth kingdom。 In Gleam, Auren and the saddles are returned to Midas but Auren is not the same caged woman she was when she left, and Midas does not particularly like her new attitude。 Gleam is all about Auren finding her courage, strength independence。 I loved watching Auren bloom and shine all on her own。 This series has such fantastic character progression。 The writing and storytelling is so strong, and these books are a magic begging for you to discover。 The romance also amps up a lot in this book and the steamy scenes are pure perfection。 #Auripforver , which is all I am going to say about the romance, but trust me, the romance is so worth the wait of the first two books。 It is amazing, couple goals and book boyfriend goals! In addition to the romance heating up, we also learn a lot more about Midas, Auren and Commander Rip。 There are so many plot twists that I honestly did not see coming。 I like to think I am pretty good at picking out a plot twist, but Raven Kennedy can drop a bomb on you like no body's business。 She is the queen of keeping readers on their toes, and all of the twists and turns in this book were crazy。 Some were complete perfection, while others utterly gutted me。 I am still not ok thinking about some of them。 These books are such a special treat to discover and savor, which is what I did with Gleam。 I savored it。 It is a big boy at over 600 pages and when I came across powerful passages or sexy passages or jaw dropping passages, I read them a few times before moving on, because this book and this series honestly made me fall so deeply in love。 I don't want these books to be over。 I just want to keep enjoying them over and over again, which is really saying something。 Raven Kennedy is such a wonderful writer。 She deserves more attention because her books are incredibly captivating。 I have read almost all of her books (savannah heirs, I'm coming for you next) and I love all of her series, whether they are funny, dark, sexy, standalones or series, they are all so fantastic。 She writes characters that worm their way into your heart and your head and before you know it, they are all you can think about。 Her books are like falling in love for the first time- they are heady and exciting and completely all consuming。 If you are looking for your next favorite read with your newest best friends, complex characters that you need to root for and of course amazingly hot book boyfriends, look no further than Raven Kennedy books。 The Plated Prisoner series is a perfect place to start。 The first three books are out now and they are completely perfect。 I love this series so much。 It is my favorite series of all time, and I am willing to bet that if you pick it up it will become a favorite of yours as well。 Gleam is my favorite book in the series, but it is hard to pick a favorite because they are all so so good! 。。。more

Gleam is a huge book。 Raven has said that it's the longest she's ever written and it does not disappoint。 It is very rare that a book series gets better as it goes on, but this is probably the best of the series so far。 The most impressive thing about it is that for as long as it is, it does not get boring。 There are definitely spots where you can pause and put it down, but it never drags on。 We also learn more about Auren's past and life before Midas and before her power manifested。 And the ending。。。 Be warned that Raven has left us with another cliffhanger。 Gleam picks up right where Glint left off, with Auren rightfully pissed off at all of the men in her life and going toe to toe with King Rot。 This story is very much Auren coming into her own。 She sees Midas for the manipulating abuser he truly is and has decided to leave him。 She strikes up a bargain with Rissa, the saddle she saved in Gild, and they make a plan to escape。 The book shifts POV several times between Auren, Malina, Midas, and Rot。 We are also introduced to several new characters like the Queen of the 3rd kingdom, as well as "Dew", the chief export of the 5th kingdom which is a drug that is described as a cross between Ecstasy and a roofie。 It is given to saddles to make them more "agreeable" and "heighten" their pleasure。 The slow burn also ignites and Auren FINALLY gets some (it's around page 350, for all of you who can't wait)。 There are a lot of WTF reveals, an insane betrayal--actually a few of those, a betrothal, a huge secret, and more about the powers the characters have。 And that ending。。。 holy hell that ending! I was internally screaming, YAAAAAASSSSS!! And then Raven left it on a cliffhanger and I was screaming, NOOOOOOO! Five out of five stars。 Please read this series it is amazing! 。。。more

I read this book not in exchange for a honest review but as a reader who stumbled upon this amazing world on her own accord。 RAVEN KENNEDY is an amazingly well talented writer with words written on pages that connect on a true human level with its reader。 Auren is an amazingly resilient and strong spirited women who absolutely BLOSSOMS in this book。 I read all 595 pages in two days。 I couldn’t put it down I wouldn’t put it down and I am so glad for the sheer size of this novel because every mome I read this book not in exchange for a honest review but as a reader who stumbled upon this amazing world on her own accord。 RAVEN KENNEDY is an amazingly well talented writer with words written on pages that connect on a true human level with its reader。 Auren is an amazingly resilient and strong spirited women who absolutely BLOSSOMS in this book。 I read all 595 pages in two days。 I couldn’t put it down I wouldn’t put it down and I am so glad for the sheer size of this novel because every moment was well thought out, every friendship that’s been built was given the right amount of time and the relationship between the main love interest was magical。 If I could say one thing to readers of Sarah j Maas, Jennifer l armentrout, Mary e Pearson, it’d be give this series a chance and read a lesser known author who is worthy of a much greater spot light!! LOVED IT ALL!!! Encore 。。。more

Wow! Wow! Wow! I have read books with Stockholm syndrome before and most of them follow the same basic plot line and we either end with the heroine falling in love or an imprisonment situation that only gets darker。 But this book exceeded all of my expectations。 Raven is a fantastic author and I’m seriously blown away by get storylines and her characters。 I must say though, she has outdone herself with Auren。 Auren started off as a naive girl in love with the king。 And to be honest, I was in lov Wow! Wow! Wow! I have read books with Stockholm syndrome before and most of them follow the same basic plot line and we either end with the heroine falling in love or an imprisonment situation that only gets darker。 But this book exceeded all of my expectations。 Raven is a fantastic author and I’m seriously blown away by get storylines and her characters。 I must say though, she has outdone herself with Auren。 Auren started off as a naive girl in love with the king。 And to be honest, I was in love with king Midas too because he is personable and we only really saw him through Auren’s point of view。 We didn’t know how evil he truly was。 Everything he did made it seem as if Auren was the one who wanted all of this。 As if everything Midas did actually kept her save。 But no, he went through years of training her to believe that she couldn’t be strong without him。 That everything he did was in Auren’s best interest。 And as long as Auren stayed with him, she would forever be safe。 What makes this book so amazing is that we finally get to see Auren take back the life that was stolen from her。 She had always been strong, but know she is starting to realize that too。 It was so gratifying to watch Auren slowly come to terms with her own strength。 She began to make decisions for herself and became her own hero。 It was amazing to watch。 Also, I love Rip。 Gods he is perfection。 I need book 4 now。 。。。more
