Summary

The #1 New York Times-bestselling author's terrifying new thriller about one man's ice-cold malice, and one woman's fight to reclaim her life。

Former Army brat Morgan Albright has finally planted roots in a friendly neighborhood near Baltimore。 Her friend and roommate Nina helps her make the mortgage payments, as does Morgan's job as a bartender。 But after she and Nina host their first dinner party—attended by Luke, the flirtatious IT guy who'd been chatting her up at the bar—her carefully built world is shattered。 The back door glass is broken, cash and jewelry are missing, her car is gone, and Nina lies dead on the floor。

Soon, a horrific truth emerges: It was Morgan who let the monster in。 "Luke” is actually a cold-hearted con artist named Gavin who targets a particular type of woman, steals her assets and identity, and then commits his ultimate goal: murder。

What the FBI tells Morgan is beyond chilling。 Nina wasn't his type。 Morgan is。 Nina was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time。 And Morgan's nightmare is just beginning。 Soon she has no choice but to flee to her mother's home in Vermont。 While she struggles to build something new, she meets another man, Miles Jameson。 He isn't flashy or flirtatious, and his family business has deep roots in town。 But Gavin is still out there hunting new victims, and he hasn't forgotten the one who got away。

3。5 stars。 A gripping thriller romance from one of the masters。 Roberts really excels with thriller romances。 Morgan is a bit different。 She's reserved but a people person; a hard worker; fiercely loyal。 And man, that Rozwell is a real mother fucker。 Just despicable。 I loved the description of the houses and all the cocktails。 The romance doesn't sizzle but it's lovely。 Great ending, as always。 Didn't love that Morgan called her mom and her grandmother "her ladies"。 It made her sound like a pimp 3。5 stars。 A gripping thriller romance from one of the masters。 Roberts really excels with thriller romances。 Morgan is a bit different。 She's reserved but a people person; a hard worker; fiercely loyal。 And man, that Rozwell is a real mother fucker。 Just despicable。 I loved the description of the houses and all the cocktails。 The romance doesn't sizzle but it's lovely。 Great ending, as always。 Didn't love that Morgan called her mom and her grandmother "her ladies"。 It made her sound like a pimp。 Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC 。。。more

The writing style is not good。 I couldn’t get past 10%。 I usually enjoy her books but this one I just couldn’t get into because of how it’s written。 I would like to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review。

This book had me engrossed from the start! The characters, while not perfect, were so relatable and real。 Loved getting to know them。 The plot, such an awesome combination of mystery, suspense, physiological thriller, and a big sprinkle of family and romance。 Flowed seamlessly from scene to scene。 At times a bit disturbing, but intriguing to get into the mind of a serial killer and his feelings of entitlement。 Honestly, could not put it down once I started。 May be my favorite Nora Roberts I've r This book had me engrossed from the start! There’s a reason NR is the queen。 It’s been years since I’ve read a NR novel。 Identity makes me wonder why。 I loved these characters and their way of speaking。 Morgan is pretty kick ass in that she isn’t down long before she picks herself up and gets back at it。 Miles was a perfect fit for her。 I wasn’t sure if I’d like him at first, but he turned it around for me。

My first read by Nora Roberts and I certainly wasn't disappointed。 The synopsis gives a lot away and I think it might better for the reader to go in less informed about the initial part regarding Morgan meeting a guy named Luke Hudson who winds up stealing her identity and killing her roommate。 Most of that happens by 30% of the book, but since the reader already expects it, it almost feels like going through the motions to get to that point until the rest of the story begins。 After Morgan reloc My first read by Nora Roberts and I certainly wasn't disappointed。 The synopsis gives a lot away and I think it might better for the reader to go in less informed about the initial part regarding Morgan meeting a guy named Luke Hudson who winds up stealing her identity and killing her roommate。 Most of that happens by 30% of the book, but since the reader already expects it, it almost feels like going through the motions to get to that point until the rest of the story begins。 After Morgan relocates to live with her mother and grandmother in order to restart her life, she's building herself back up, piece by piece, and finding a rather supportive team who helps to cheer her on, including the Jameson family, whom she's employed by。 The dialogue can be hard to follow at times, especially with trying to figure out who is saying what since it's not always obvious and the pattern is short and concise, assuming the reader is able to seamlessly connect all the dots。 Otherwise, I did enjoy seeing Morgan pull herself from the ashes of everything she lost only to regain so much more, including Miles。 For someone who was so intent on reaching her own personal goals of accomplishment, she had to change her goals and discover what else she was capable of。 It's a bit of slow burn, suspense, small town and second chances, but the pacing is not very fast。 Morgan is an admirable heroine and doled out the best revenge to her perpetrator by living her best life。 。。。more

It had everything! When Gavin, the smooth con-man, murdered Nina, I think I stopped breathing for a moment。 And then when he stole Morgan's identity, I felt it down to my inner core。 No one should ever have to go through losing everything the way Morgan did。I don't want to give away any spoilers beyond what is already written in the blurb, but this story showed how a person can come back from all of that horror。 It showed how a person can rebuild their life。。。 and all for the better。The romance didn't show up until halfway through the book, but that was good。 I liked the slow buildup。 Morgan had to find herself first。 And the romance was indeed very, very good。 I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic suspense。I am so thankful to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book。 I was anxiously waiting for the release date and grateful for the ARC。 。。。more
