Summary

Brandon Stanton’s new book, Humans—his most moving and compelling book to date—shows us the world。

Brandon Stanton created Humans of New York in 2010。 What began as a photographic census of life in New York City, soon evolved into a storytelling phenomenon。 A global audience of millions began following HONY daily。 Over the next several years, Stanton broadened his lens to include people from across the world。

Traveling to more than forty countries, he conducted interviews across continents, borders, and language barriers。 Humans is the definitive catalogue of these travels。 The faces and locations will vary from page to page, but the stories will feel deeply familiar。 Told with candor and intimacy, Humans will resonate with readers across the globe—providing a portrait of our shared experience。

It’s pretty hard to dislike a book that consists of raw excerpts of people’s lives。 I’m a huge fan girl of Stanton’s work。 This is one Jesse and I read together in small bursts at a time。 I cried at least half the time because there is so much heartbreak in this world! Beautiful。

A beautiful reminder that every human being has a story worth listening to。

This book contains so many sad stories ( actually mostly sad stories), and as a reader I can do absolutely nothing to help these people who are suffering from poverty, violence, hunger, homelessness, illness or loneliness。 Seriously, if you are prone to depression, this book will make it so much worse。 Life is hard, ten you die。 Hope the author too a huge chunk of his profits and donated to charity。

I just adore Stanton and the work he is doing。 What a gift to humanity!

All the emotions reading this one, so lovely。 An added bonus is it feels somehow more virtuous to read this in book form than on my phone。

StorytellingWhat a delightful book! The fact that we humans are more alike that we may have been taught is in full evidence in these pages。 Mr。 Tanto has had amazing adventures and through Chisholm he takes us along。 I recommend this book to all adults。 There are a few stories that a raw and not really appropriate for kids。

These books of 'man-on-the-street' interviews are little empathy bombs。 I wish a new one came out every year。 These books of 'man-on-the-street' interviews are little empathy bombs。 I wish a new one came out every year。 。。。more

I could easily have binged through this book, but deliberately read just a few at a time to preserve the intent of glimpsing somebody's "story。" Going slow allows you to digest all of the personalities interviewed by Stanton。 A fabulous compilation of people from all over the globe。 While he captures and evokes many different emotions, it simultaneously reminds us that we are part of a much greater global tapestry, but the feelings are the same。 Whether we can relate to a particular situation, w I could easily have binged through this book, but deliberately read just a few at a time to preserve the intent of glimpsing somebody's "story。" Going slow allows you to digest all of the personalities interviewed by Stanton。 A fabulous compilation of people from all over the globe。 While he captures and evokes many different emotions, it simultaneously reminds us that we are part of a much greater global tapestry, but the feelings are the same。 Whether we can relate to a particular situation, we can always empathize to the emotion。 。。。more

We all have problems。 Looking for a new job or saving up to quit your current job。 We make friends。 And lose them as quickly as we made them。 We fall in love and get into arguments。 We follow the news, worry about it, and soon forget about it。 But we all do it。 That's human and this book shows it。 We all have problems。 Looking for a new job or saving up to quit your current job。 We make friends。 And lose them as quickly as we made them。 We fall in love and get into arguments。 We follow the news, worry about it, and soon forget about it。 But we all do it。 That's human and this book shows it。 。。。more

Just beautiful。 Some of the stories within made me pause for a moment to acknowledge both my privilege and the fact that we as humans are living perhaps at the peak of technological and cultural innovation。

5 stars - what an amazing collection of stories and images。 Even with stills, Brandon captures the spirit and hope and sorrow and joy。 Some of the stories I had already read before I recognized from the Facebook page, but having them all together like this is just so powerful and moving and a wonderful reminder of our shared humanity during a time in which it feels like we couldn’t be further apart。This work fulfills SPL's summer book bingo challenge prompt - "On Your Shelf"。 5 stars - what an amazing collection of stories and images。 Even with stills, Brandon captures the spirit and hope and sorrow and joy。 Some of the stories I had already read before I recognized from the Facebook page, but having them all together like this is just so powerful and moving and a wonderful reminder of our shared humanity during a time in which it feels like we couldn’t be further apart。This work fulfills SPL's summer book bingo challenge prompt - "On Your Shelf"。 。。。more

Oh, this was splendid。 Pictures and stories of and about people from all over the globe。 Sometimes I was struck by our similarities - often I thought I was reading about an American's experience in America but it was Singapore, or the Netherlands, or Ghana。 Sometimes the stories are just dreadful。 Sometimes they are uplifting。 Some are terribly sad, and some heartwarming。 I cannot recommend highly enough。 Oh, this was splendid。 Pictures and stories of and about people from all over the globe。 Sometimes I was struck by our similarities - often I thought I was reading about an American's experience in America but it was Singapore, or the Netherlands, or Ghana。 Sometimes the stories are just dreadful。 Sometimes they are uplifting。 Some are terribly sad, and some heartwarming。 I cannot recommend highly enough。 。。。more

Reading this is a journey through a lot of random people over the world。 Inspiring and eye-opening。The real world is different from our perception spoon-fed by the media, which invariably focuses in the dramatic and the bad side of the world, and filters out most usual faces and matters, which can however be no less lively and touching。 Perhaps even more。 And these common people's lives are the real majority of the human beings' story。What this book brings to you is a sense of reality of the wor Reading this is a journey through a lot of random people over the world。 Inspiring and eye-opening。The real world is different from our perception spoon-fed by the media, which invariably focuses in the dramatic and the bad side of the world, and filters out most usual faces and matters, which can however be no less lively and touching。 Perhaps even more。 And these common people's lives are the real majority of the human beings' story。What this book brings to you is a sense of reality of the world。 This is one of the books that shall not be missed in a lifetime。 。。。more

This has been my bathroom reader for some time now。 Some stories I audibly laughed with, plenty I shared with friends because they so accurately spoke to what they were going through, many I’d think about for the rest of the day, and a few got me to tear up in sadness and shock。 All were worthwhile and got me to see past a picture and into a deeper story。 Those stories we all have。 Beautiful stories that show the fullness and rawness of random human connections sharing their experience。 I really This has been my bathroom reader for some time now。 Some stories I audibly laughed with, plenty I shared with friends because they so accurately spoke to what they were going through, many I’d think about for the rest of the day, and a few got me to tear up in sadness and shock。 All were worthwhile and got me to see past a picture and into a deeper story。 Those stories we all have。 Beautiful stories that show the fullness and rawness of random human connections sharing their experience。 I really loved the few sections of the author’s commentary on his work as well。 Well done, Brandon。 Thank you。 。。。more

This book is beautiful, deep, and necessary。 The story telling culture that roots humanity ties all of these photos and lives together。 Books like this should be required reading in today’s world。
