Hooky is the start of a graphic novel series full of magic, suspense, and complex characters。 I had not read the Webtoon version, so the whole story was a surprise for me。 I liked getting to know the characters and their increasingly complicated friendships and connections。 The dynamic between the witches and non magical people is not unexpected, and the intrigue and politics of it all feels very realistic, and the unfairness of it all seems on point with human nature- even when we wish is was not so common。 I thought the story moved quickly in some moments, and a little slower in others, but it flowed nicely。 I thought the art was well done and does a great job of capturing the mood of the story, and the details of the character's emotions and intent。 As a who;e I was fully engaged in the read and enjoyed it。 My only complaint is a common one, that the book ended with a solid set up for many possibilities but very little in wrap up or conclusion。 I know there is more coming, but I need some more satisfaction at the end of a volume to make me really happy。 That being said, I am still very interested in continuing on with this series。Hooky is a great start to a series, and I think middle grade and older readers will enjoy it。 。。。more

ARC Copy。。。one of the longer graphic novels I have read but I did love the friendship and togetherness amongst all the younger cast in opposition to a portion of the adults being not so trust worthy。

Looking for witchcore vibes? This is your graphic novel。 It seems fun and lighthearted on the outside, but deep within is a dark adventure-filled story filled with morally grey characters and excellent world building。I loved our main cast of characters, they each have their own flaws and talents and all come from different backgrounds。 I loved seeing the crew together in this twisty story, and I can’t wait to continue onto the next book。 I have no idea how it’s going to end, like this one, I’m s Looking for witchcore vibes? The art was super cute and I loved the witch vibes crossed with the fun little fairytale callbacks。 I feel like the story was a bit dragged out, especially for middle grade, but it was fun。

I love Webtoon comics, I remember Hooky when it was still being published as new (which was probably 3 phones ago), but it's one of those series I saw and never read。Something I always thought back on, I feel incredibly lucky to be granted access to an ARC of (what I'm assuming) is Book 1 of the series。However, I was not expecting it to be almost 400 pages long and only about a third (or less) of the series。 I feel SO FAR BEHIND。That said, it was a really great story。 There are moments were it l I love Webtoon comics, I remember Hooky when it was still being published as new (which was probably 3 phones ago), but it's one of those series I saw and never read。Something I always thought back on, I feel incredibly lucky to be granted access to an ARC of (what I'm assuming) is Book 1 of the series。However, I was not expecting it to be almost 400 pages long and only about a third (or less) of the series。 I feel SO FAR BEHIND。That said, it was a really great story。 There are moments were it lulled, but by the last 100 pages I was hooked and had to know what was going to happen。 I desperately need and want more。 (I've already used my free reads on WT for the day trying to find where the series matches up。)The world of Hooky definitely builds in strength and the story goes。 This is a very in depth world and tale that address' many different people, from different walks of life, and how they grow behind the roles set for them by others and even themselves。 Sometimes guided by fear, but more often courage and love for one another。It is a lot, but it's a great read。**Thank you to Clarion Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review。** 。。。more

I didn’t read the Webtoon version of this story, but the graphic novel version was great! The art is gorgeous! The story itself was a cute and fun read! While the story can be dark at times, it was mostly a cheerful and funny tale of two twins who constantly get themselves involved in all kinds of mishaps。 The characters were probably my favorite part of this book!I would recommend this to younger readers who like graphic novels and fun stories! I also believe that readers of the Webtoon would probably enjoy seeing the story brought to life in a graphic novel format as well! 。。。more

Brilliant。 This was amazing。 Once the physical copy is out, its going on my shelf。 The world building is perfect, the characters all have some sort of story to them。 The art style is beautiful yet simple looking。 The art mixing with the story so well。 Character driven and fun all around。 Fantastic。 I will read this over and over again and will never shut up about it。 It brings me warmth。 Absolutely an adventure。 Highly recommend even if you aren't into any sort of magic/fantasy。 Brilliant。 This was amazing。 Once the physical copy is out, its going on my shelf。 The world building is perfect, the characters all have some sort of story to them。 The art style is beautiful yet simple looking。 The art mixing with the story so well。 Character driven and fun all around。 Fantastic。 I will read this over and over again and will never shut up about it。 It brings me warmth。 Absolutely an adventure。 Highly recommend even if you aren't into any sort of magic/fantasy。 。。。more

This is a cute, at times dark, story about twin witches who miss the bus to magic school and hijinks ensue。 Unfortunately some of those hijinks are related to the fact that witches are generally frowned upon in the current moment, and the possibility that there may be more to their magical family than they knew。 I really liked the art style here, and the story was engaging and kept me interested at every turn。 I'm not sure if I was just reading too fast, but I sometimes found the panels a bit ja This is a cute, at times dark, story about twin witches who miss the bus to magic school and hijinks ensue。 Unfortunately some of those hijinks are related to the fact that witches are generally frowned upon in the current moment, and the possibility that there may be more to their magical family than they knew。 I really liked the art style here, and the story was engaging and kept me interested at every turn。 I'm not sure if I was just reading too fast, but I sometimes found the panels a bit jam-packed, and I think the pacing was off in a few places, but overall, it was really fun。 。。。more

'Hooky' hooked (haha) me right from the start。 The illustrations are pretty and i'ts helpful, that the speech bubbles are illustrated in different colours correlating with the characters。 The cast of characters is great, but coud be more diverse。 The friendships, we are exploring in this volume, are well done, as are the character developments。 The only thing I have to criticise is, that the comic sometimes loses track of the overarching plotline, but we mostly come back to it pretty quickly。 'H 'Hooky' hooked (haha) me right from the start。 The illustrations are pretty and i'ts helpful, that the speech bubbles are illustrated in different colours correlating with the characters。 The cast of characters is great, but coud be more diverse。 The friendships, we are exploring in this volume, are well done, as are the character developments。 The only thing I have to criticise is, that the comic sometimes loses track of the overarching plotline, but we mostly come back to it pretty quickly。 'Hooky' is funny, very enjoyable and quite quick to read。 I desperately want to continue and I hope the rest of the comic will get translated as well。 。。。more

Many thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。Hooky’s strengths definitely lie in its worldbuilding, character development and compelling story。 In fact, I’d argue that it’s almost flawlessly executed。 I only have two concerns。 First of all, it gets pretty dark at times so I’m not sure about the suggested age range。 (For context, there’s a fair amount of death, violence and discussion of the persecution of witches。) Also, t Many thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review。Hooky’s strengths definitely lie in its worldbuilding, character development and compelling story。 In fact, I’d argue that it’s almost flawlessly executed。 I only have two concerns。 First of all, it gets pretty dark at times so I’m not sure about the suggested age range。 (For context, there’s a fair amount of death, violence and discussion of the persecution of witches。) Also, this is fairly long。 Going in, I expected a relatively short read of similar length to other graphic novels that I’d read before but this was actually pretty lengthy… and then it ends on a cliff-hanger which was a bit of a disappointment。But with that said, I do appreciate Hooky for being more of a slow burn。 Any loss of content would have impacted the strength of this fantastic story so it’s definitely worth overlooking the length。 I’m really looking forward to seeing how Hooky progresses after that explosive ending and hope that we don’t have to wait too long for a second instalment。In terms of the artwork itself, the colour palettes used were wonderful。 Lots of magical pastels to contrast with the use of black to symbolise the darker elements of the storytelling。Overall, a fantastic and magical graphic novel that I couldn’t help but fall in love with。 Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fun, whimsical witchy story with darker undertones。For even more reviews, check out my blog。 。。。more

This is one of the few webtoons I'm rating in advance, because I'm already so fascinated by it。 I love it!。。。。 It might even dethrone unOrdinary or whatever the other ones are as my new favorite。 The only unfortunate thing is that it will take ages to finish, but honestly, I don't mind, since every episode has way more content than I could ever ask from a Webtoon。。。 the longer it lasts, the better :DAt first, I was just a little Webtoons anniversary event, part 7~Saving the best for almost last! This is one of the few webtoons I'm rating in advance, because I'm already so fascinated by it。 I love it!。。。。 It might even dethrone unOrdinary or whatever the other ones are as my new favorite。 The only unfortunate thing is that it will take ages to finish, but honestly, I don't mind, since every episode has way more content than I could ever ask from a Webtoon。。。 the longer it lasts, the better :DAt first, I was just a little bemused, since its first few episodes were pretty chaotic; it was a mishmash of random events, fairytale references, and a pretty goofy art style。 But once it settled down。。。 oh, it just took off。 We're constantly reminded that they're just children; there's a lot of teasing, fast-paced scenes with jokes and little importance (other than to make me SAD), childhood crushes, and petty grudges。 Nobody is perfect, and they can often be irrational and rude for reasons that make sense only to themselves。 But they're direct; maybe that's the author's style speaking, or maybe it's just because they're young, but it holds nothing back。 Usually, reading distracting shenanigans is just annoying to me because it's just stalling from advancing the main story。 (Pretty obviously too。。) But。。。It strikes a great balance between the good times and the bad times。 I love fantasy, it's pretty much all I read, so I'm definitely biased, but everything ties together so well。 There's a lot of pain they cause each other, and even themselves, because of their decisions, but I can't help but empathize since I can easily see myself doing the same thing。 And at the same time, the terrible destiny that chases them the entire time threatens to overthrow all of it。 Watching how they cope with it, and hopefully overcome it is something I apprehensively look forward to。(view spoiler)[ Welcome to the spoiler section! If you're here, it means you've already read it and know all about thisLSDFLSDKF it's so good it's hard to hold it all in when you're trying not to ruin anything for anyone who might see it。 I've only just gotten to the part where the witches storm the castle at the party, and oh my god poor DaniWatching Dani change has been both cute and heartbreaking at the same time, she has such bright spirits, but not to the point of blind optimism。。。 When she broke down in front of Mark I DIED (but his reaction was perfect, I felt that)。 Everyone wants her to do magic, or understand how cool magic can be, but from her perspective, it really is just too dangerous。 I'm not sure what I'd do if I were her, but that's half the fun of reading。 The last episode had a straight up TRAUMA moment I wasn't ready omg Alex noDorian, skilled with magic, socially a mess, prideful, a little selfish sometimes, and easily makes mistakes but also strangely self-aware。 I have a love-hate relationship with him, kind of like reading unOrdinary and being hurt when someone you love does something incredibly dumb, but I can't help but relate a little。 Okay, maybe a lot。 If I'd had a whole family of angry witches on my back, I might understand。 I just really hope he doesn't become the King of Witches。 I'd actually cryI don't want this review to wind on forever, but I could go on for hours on how much I love this webtoon, the setting, the characters in it, everything。 Monica went from a slightly obnoxious princess to the heroine she'd been reading about so much, not quite but almost unexpectedly。 It was cool watching her transform after everything she went through, and her complicated friendship with Dorian is humorous, but also kind of sad because of the lies on both sides。 Nico is stubborn and kind of dumb sometimes, but he's a good guy, and after hearing what happened to him, it's hard to blame him。 And Mark is such a big lovable oaf oh my god`l。1-= (hide spoiler)]It was almost like watching the Webtoon grow up as its characters did。 I think the author herself confessed it started as just a fun doodle, and then grew into something more as she kept drawing them more and more。 It's rare to read something that feels as genuine as Hooky does, and if anything bad happens to one of the characters I'd love I'd probably just die on the spot。 I'm surprised it hasn't gotten that sidetracked so far, every twist so far has been gripping, and I'm perpetually anxious waiting for something bad to happen that I don't want but know is coming。 If you ever have a chance, you should absolutely read Hooky。 God, if you've already read it, read it again SLFDKKLSKF it's so packed- wait wow it's sold in print too? hold on a moment"I'm bad at hugging, but I'm even worse with words。" -Mark, and now me 。。。more
