Romance is supposed to make you feel the way this book made me feel。 So many authors don't quite nail it but this one did so so perfectly。 100% a new favourite。 Romance is supposed to make you feel the way this book made me feel。 So many authors don't quite nail it but this one did so so perfectly。 100% a new favourite。 。。。more

Make it make sense。 The pacing was so weird and… the ending was very, ahem, convenient。Ash was so unlikeable too imo - having doc martens is not a personality trait 😃 And she would show a SLITHER of emotion then go on to make a very corny protagonist type joke。 Like bestie, you just died。 You can be sad。 You dont have to make sarcastic comments you aren’t Percy Jackso Cute and interesting at times but NOT enough on the side characters like Dev and Esen is my first complaint 🤨。And also the plot?? Ash are u forgetting something?? I simply do not understand 😕I REST MY CASE ASH IS ANNOYINGOverall it was okay, somewhat enjoyable, and queer + poc representation is great we love to see it(Pls recommend good queer reads i have been let down) 。。。more

Finished reading in tears so that's how I know it's good, if it evokes such emotion。 It's heartfelt and heartbreaking。 It's unlike anything I've read before, I think。 Always really enjoy anything I read of Tanya Byrnes'。 Finished reading in tears so that's how I know it's good, if it evokes such emotion。 It's heartfelt and heartbreaking。 It's unlike anything I've read before, I think。 Always really enjoy anything I read of Tanya Byrnes'。 。。。more

I really liked this book。 It has lesbian representation, cool characters and a plot that makes you want to keep reading。 The only criticism i have: for a moment i really thought the amount of times Dr。 Martens were mentioned was a subtle way of promoting them💀Honestly, the acknowledgments were what made me cry the most。 I could never imagine what it feels like losing both of my parents to an illness, so i wish the author all the best and i hope everything in her life is going okay now。

Afterlove is a beautiful queer love story between 2 teenage girls Ash and Poppy。 All the characters are spot-on。 From Ash's mum to Esen, it was a perfect blend of characters。 Ash is a shy Indian/Guyanese girl, who is tired of kissing girls in the dark alleys who later pretend they aren't even gay。 She wants to be with someone, but she is tired of the heartbreaks and the hopelessness that these girls bring。 Poppy on the other hand is bold and speaks her heart。 When Ash can't express herself, Popp Afterlove is a beautiful queer love story between 2 teenage girls Ash and Poppy。 All the characters are spot-on。 From Ash's mum to Esen, it was a perfect blend of characters。 Ash is a shy Indian/Guyanese girl, who is tired of kissing girls in the dark alleys who later pretend they aren't even gay。 She wants to be with someone, but she is tired of the heartbreaks and the hopelessness that these girls bring。 Poppy on the other hand is bold and speaks her heart。 When Ash can't express herself, Poppy does it for her。 They seemed like a perfect sweet couple。 Since I am an Indian myself, the storyline around Ash's family seemed so close to my heart。 Her overprotective Mom is basically all desi moms。 And the electricity-saver Dad is just our Dad。。。。。 or Mom。 I laughed so hard when Ash described Chai to Poppy。 So, to clarify: Guys, 'Chai' means 'Tea'。 So if you order Chai Tea, you are just ordering Tea Tea。 Now does that make any sense? No right。! So please, it's not Chai Tea。 It's either Chai or Tea。! Period。!The book is really well-written。 Tanya Byrne is an amazing writer。 It was such a smooth read, that I read the whole thing in 2 sittings。 The story just flows from one incident to another。 You never get bored with a single page。 What hit me hard was the second last chapter, where Ash has the realization about love and life。 It was so true, that I myself teared up a bit。To sum up, Afterlife is a beautiful queer teen romance novel involving a brown girl (Yay。!) with a beautiful heartwarming ending。 It's a highly recommended read from my side if you are into queer romance or romance novels in general。Full review : https://divyakaushik1010。wixsite。com/。。。 。。。more

The first 160 pages of this book were amazing to me。 When I picked this book up a second time, I felt so incredibly disconnected from both the characters and the story that it was difficult to care about anything that was happening。 The instances of beautiful writing became more and more sparse, page after page of very simplistic writing style made it difficult for me to even finish reading this book。

It starts off a little slow but once you get to the part where she dies it's really good, I enjoyed the way the author wrote Ash' relationships with the people around her but i would have liked to know more about the reaper system。 It starts off a little slow but once you get to the part where she dies it's really good, I enjoyed the way the author wrote Ash' relationships with the people around her but i would have liked to know more about the reaper system。 。。。more

I’ve seen a lot of people talking about it online, and it’s my first book by Tanya Byrne。 Before going in, I didn’t know much about it except that there was a f/f relationship and ghosts, which is so original and caught my attention straight away。 I put the book down temporarily after reading 50 pages but then I ended up reading the rest of the book in one day!Afterlove begins as a contemporary book focusing on Ash, a teenager from a working-class background and a Guyanese family。 Ash hasn’t had a lot of success with girls, but she hopes that Poppy is different。 The book features a sapphic romance, but with a paranormal twist! Ash is dead, and is about to join a group of reapers in the afterlife。 However, she can’t quite forget about her first love, Poppy, and is determined to see her again。I found the premise to be SO interesting because Ash’s death really introduced a whole new dimension to the book。 I was so interested to see how exactly the relationship with Poppy would play out, particularly because of the ghost situations! I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen or how the book would end, so I was definitely invested to find out。 I read the book in a short space of time, and I think the pace and my interest really picked up in the ‘After’ section because that was the part I was most looking forward to from the beginning。 I really liked seeing how Ash’s character developed through all these changes, as well as the snippets of Poppy and Ash’s family。 Dev and Esen were really cool characters too, and I loved all the reaper scenes。I will say that I didn’t feel that motivated to keep picking the book up, even though I did get through it quickly。 This was mainly an issue for me at the very beginning, because I wasn’t too invested until I read about Ash’s death。 I expected to see more of her internal thoughts and emotions, especially to do with grieving her family because we didn’t hear much about them in the second half。 It also took me some time to get used to the romance, because it progressed so quickly。 That’s not the fault of the book, though – I just generally prefer slowburn over instalove with romances, and I wanted to see more scenes between them。 Still, I ended up reading about 2/3 of this book in one sitting because I got sucked into the plot because it really picked up!So thank you again to Pride Book Tours for sending me a review copy! I thought it was such a cool paranormal twist on a sapphic contemporary while also touching on topics such as identity。 I wish it delved a bit deeper in some areas, especially the romance, but overall I did enjoy reading it。 Be aware that this book discusses death, homophobia, and racism, but nothing is very graphic。3。5/5 stars 。。。more
