♥️ 。。。more

This was so goood! I love short story collections and I loved how all of these stories were connected。 I actually haven’t read from many of the authors in here, mostly because I don’t read much YA anymore, but I liked some of the stories so much I would definitely consider picking up some other titles!

One of the most enjoyable books I've read in ages! I really enjoyed how well multiple storylines were woven together, and I loved how much, well, love permeated the whole thing。 It's also fantastic that these incredible authors collaborated to bring this book to life! This is a YA novel but interesting in that it is written by a number of different authors。 A bit like the old game where you add a sentence to someone else's story。 In this each auther picks up the same story or an aspect of it and builds on the previous author's creation。It is set in NY in a blackout and all the characters are black young people。I think it is a novel idea and enjoyed the story but did find the street talk language style a bit irritating but I am a white older woman so youngster This is a YA novel but interesting in that it is written by a number of different authors。 A bit like the old game where you add a sentence to someone else's story。 In this each auther picks up the same story or an aspect of it and builds on the previous author's creation。It is set in NY in a blackout and all the characters are black young people。I think it is a novel idea and enjoyed the story but did find the street talk language style a bit irritating but I am a white older woman so youngsters may well be in tune with this。I think for anyone not in tune with black street talk it could add to the challenge for some youngsters。It not only gives young black people a romance where they are the central characters but also has at least one part of the story where two girls become romantically interested in each other。It would certainly open up some interesting discussions within a classroom environment。 。。。more

Sometimes I wonder if short story collections just aren’t for me。 Some of these I loved - others I really didn’t。 A good collection!

I’m starting to think short story books aren’t for me。 Another one I had high hopes for and I was completely let down。 The book was okay but I was kind of bored and all of the stories were pretty meh

I was so excited to read this collaborative novel by some of the best Black women writers for young people。 Together they pulled off 6 beautiful interwoven love stories that take place in the span of an afternoon and evening blackout in New York City。 Loved the romance of it all!

I loved this YA collection of overlapping short stories about love during a blackout in NYC。 So much talent in one book!! Amazing collaboration by Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola Yoon — and the Obamas are already set to produce the miniseries adaptation on Netflix! Ages 12 and up。

This is a book filled with the reality of love。 I absolutely loved each one of these stories that these authors told。 I felt so connected to some of the characters and their experiences with love。 I think that this is a must read for everyone because this book is so fun and so different from anything I have ever read。 It was interesting to see what people share when the lights go out。 My favorite stories in this collection are The Long Walk by Tiffany D。 Jackson and All The Great Love Stories。。。 This is a book filled with the reality of love。 I absolutely loved each one of these stories that these authors told。 I felt so connected to some of the characters and their experiences with love。 I think that this is a must read for everyone because this book is so fun and so different from anything I have ever read。 It was interesting to see what people share when the lights go out。 My favorite stories in this collection are The Long Walk by Tiffany D。 Jackson and All The Great Love Stories。。。and Dust by Dhonielle Clayton 。。。more

I loved this but I just wanted so much more。 This book feels like an incredible tease, but, for what it is, it’s kinda perfect。 It focuses on this one moment in time and how this blackout forces some of these people to thing about what they really want/expect out of a relationship and leads some others to make new connections that maybe they wouldn’t have made if it wasn’t for this specific situation。 I enjoyed it so much。

Due to the fact that I was given this book for free by Girls Write Now, and the fact that is sounds amazing, I can’t wait to read this book。

This was so good!! The stories are mildly connected and all take place in the same timeframe, during a blackout in New York City。 They are about love (romantic, but also friendship, self love, and family)。 They are about change and growth and identity。 The characters are mostly very young (under 20) but it didn't feel like typical YA。 This book made me happy。 This was so good!! Blackout is a beautiful mixture of love stories all over New York during a huge blackout。 Because there are no huge distractions and people are forced to make do they all end up realizing what is the most important。 The people in their lives。 I loved these love stories, and I love that they were black love stories on top of that because we don’t get many of those that are just lighthearted and come with a happy ending。 I applaud all of the authors for this brilliant piece of art! Books like these are why I keep trying to find YA books I like。 I might not finish them all, but when I find one like this, I’m glad I keep trying。 I also enjoyed the structure of the book itself, wherein one longer story was interspersed in alternating chapters with the stories that followed other characters。
