picked this up purely for the coverpositives: excellent representation and unique god systemnegatives: pointless side characters, inconceivable world building, imo very forced romance, main characters are hard to connect to and the whole adventure just seems pointless?i was so done with this book by like 25% and kinda wish i DNF’d because i just did not care about anything that happened lmao

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC。I absolutely loved this book, and cannot WAIT for the next installment/s in the series。 Kissen, Elo and Inara are the found family we all deserve, and getting Skedi's perspective every so often added to the overall narrative drive。 The 'twist' at the end was fairly predictable but I didn't care because the ride was great。 New favourite series alert! Really fun ride with great representation with queer characters and disabled characters。 I especially liked how casual most of the representation is。 These characters are just there。 There is no judgement, no character arc involving the disability。 It's refreshing and while I definitely love a good disability story arc, we also need this type of rep, where disabled characters are just there, just to be themselves, with no other purpose。I really enjoyed the dynamics between the characters。 I'm al Really fun ride with great representation with queer characters and disabled characters。 I especially liked how casual most of the representation is。 These characters are just there。 There is no judgement, no character arc involving the disability。 It's refreshing and while I definitely love a good disability story arc, we also need this type of rep, where disabled characters are just there, just to be themselves, with no other purpose。I really enjoyed the dynamics between the characters。 I'm always a sucker for strong grumpy character protects young innocent lamb。 。。。more

Really good for a debut story, it’s very well written however in some cases i did find it dragged a little。 The characters are interesting as well as being very diverse in characters with disabilities and sexuality which is nice and their growth and personality is very well written。 I found it interesting the concept between Skedi and Inara and that’s the part I enjoyed the most I guess。Unfortunately with this genre of book it can be very hit or miss for me and I guess i’m just in the middle wit Really good for a debut story, it’s very well written however in some cases i did find it dragged a little。 The characters are interesting as well as being very diverse in characters with disabilities and sexuality which is nice and their growth and personality is very well written。 I found it interesting the concept between Skedi and Inara and that’s the part I enjoyed the most I guess。Unfortunately with this genre of book it can be very hit or miss for me and I guess i’m just in the middle with this。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I'm not too sure how I feel about this one。 I think the world-building is great and full of flavour, incredibly easy to imagine as Hannah writes with such vivid descriptions without getting too bogged down in the details, but I really disliked the third act of the book - from when they arrive in Blenraden。 I didn't care for the romantic aspect of the book, which ultimately consumes a large chunk of the third act, and I felt that some of the reveals and fights didn't feel particularly earned, or I'm not too sure how I feel about this one。 I think the world-building is great and full of flavour, incredibly easy to imagine as Hannah writes with such vivid descriptions without getting too bogged down in the details, but I really disliked the third act of the book - from when they arrive in Blenraden。 I didn't care for the romantic aspect of the book, which ultimately consumes a large chunk of the third act, and I felt that some of the reveals and fights didn't feel particularly earned, or were too easily earned, ending with a cliffhanger to set up a sequel。People are obviously much more complex than they can appear on paper, but I was a bit disappointed to see Kissen and Elo end up together when, until that point, I had read them both as being queer-coded。 Kissen had been flirting with women and was deeply in love with one before, still clearly hurting from it, whilst Elo felt like he had feelings for his friend, Arren。 I felt this was brushed aside to force them together later, and that the romance didn't benefit the pacing or events of the book。 I was really excited to be reading an adult fantasy novel with an LGBTQ+ cast, and in many way it's successful in being that (also, in regard to inclusion, Kissen has a disability which is thankfully never brushed over, and sign language plays a large role in the book, both of which I loved), but ultimately I felt it played it safe, and a little less interesting than I had hoped, and felt like I had been set up, for。 。。。more

This was an amazing fantasy。 The world building is rich and intricate。 The characters are all compelling and engaging。 I especially loved the feistiness of Kissen and the mystery surrounding Inara and her small god companion Skediceth。 I was also hugely drawn to the nobility and loyalty of Elogast。 And I adored how this motley crew came together to protect Inara and fulfil their own quests。 I can’t wait for the next book。

Good potential but not executed well。 Lots of words, not enough meat。 Anything exciting happens in the last 30 pages。 And then it just ends。 Feels very unfinished but overdone at the same time。 Do we need overly detailed descriptions of roads/places/activities that will never matter again? No。 We don’t。

Great fantasy and a really good debut。 It was like a cross between The Witcher and American Gods。 Kissen is a really great female protagonist and a pretty good flushed out character。 At times, I felt like the book needed to find its rhythm, and was a bit slow。 But it definitely found it’s rhythm and regained its footing。 I’ll be keeping an eye out for the second one!

Well, that did not go quite as expected。I really enjoyed the prologue and the last couple chapters in the book, but everything in between was just。。。。so lackluster。 The story moved at a snails pace, and I found my mind frequently wandering, which then I would have to reread the last passage (or page)。 Or I just kept going anyway, and never felt like I was missing too much。I thought that this book would have a lot more action, and a lot more God encounters。 Godkiller was the name of one of the ma Well, that did not go quite as expected。I really enjoyed the prologue and the last couple chapters in the book, but everything in between was just。。。。so lackluster。 The story moved at a snails pace, and I found my mind frequently wandering, which then I would have to reread the last passage (or page)。 Or I just kept going anyway, and never felt like I was missing too much。I thought that this book would have a lot more action, and a lot more God encounters。 Godkiller was the name of one of the main characters, she wasn't even central to the story。 I mean, they all tied in together, but the story focuses on the now rather than the characters past, and with the split POV I felt like everyone was represented equally。Still, with a cover like that and a title so enticing, I really wanted more from this book。In the end, I am not sure I even want to read the sequel when it comes out。 Like I said, only the beginning and the very end of this book is memorable, I am already forgetting the in between details two days after finishing it。 I will still keep this on my shelf though, since I have the beautiful Illumicrate edition with sprayed edges。 I just。。。。。hoped for more。 。。。more

A stellar debut novel from Kaner。 I think where this novel shines is in its characterisation。 The protagonists' development, particularly Inara, did not feel rushed or unreasonable; they changed in satisfying ways that could be expected of someone going through what they went through。 They developed in ways that felt true to their nature and they were not perfect。 Kissen was definitely my favourite character。 Who doesn't love a badass who is unabashedly themselves despite pressure not to be? Speaking of, the portrayals of disability and queer characters were stellar and we love to see it。 It felt very realistic, not gratuitous。 The character was not their disability, nor did it preclude them from perusing their goals。 I am also a sucker for a found family and this was also done in a satisfying way, the trilogy finding unity and trust in something that was either previously denied them or difficult for them to acknowledge。I will say, however, that I was desperate for some more worldbuilding (though that is likely due to my predilection for longer fantasy novels) and sometimes felt descriptions fell short of giving a clear picture of the scene。 I often felt like I was unable to fully imagine what was going on, sometimes what I thought I knew was contradicted by the next line, sometimes a confrontation was over right after it began, a character seemed to move comfortably in a space that I had been led to believe was cramped, things of that nature。Overall a worthwhile read and I am glad I picked it up and am looking forward to the next instalment! 。。。more

I really really enjoyed this book。 I liked the concept of the Gods, and I was so on edge the whole time trying to figure out what was going on, and what was really going on with Inara。 That being said, there was a lot of world-building in this, but I do feel it was necessary to set the scenes。 I'm desperately hoping there's a second book, as this was left on a massive cliffhanger!I actually read this as part of a buddy read, which definitely helped, and actually meant we exchanged lots of opinio I really really enjoyed this book。 I liked the concept of the Gods, and I was so on edge the whole time trying to figure out what was going on, and what was really going on with Inara。 That being said, there was a lot of world-building in this, but I do feel it was necessary to set the scenes。 I'm desperately hoping there's a second book, as this was left on a massive cliffhanger!I actually read this as part of a buddy read, which definitely helped, and actually meant we exchanged lots of opinions and thoughts about the book throughout, which made me enjoy it so much more! Thanks to NetGalley for the early release in exchange for my honest review。 For more reviews, please check out my Instagram at TikTok at @blondesbooknook or my Twitter at @lausbooknook 。。。more
