Perfect example of a perfect collection of essays。 Nod to the translators because the original Peruvian version must have been impeccable if a translation was so striking and beautiful。 Too many underlines in my copy， dog eared and dirty and carried everywhere and cried into。 Need to read everything else she has read。 A writer who reminds me why I love words so much， and how to say exactly what you’re feeling。

Probably a 3。5。 As is often the case with essay collections， they were about 60% successful。 But the last essay， using the experience of getting hit by a partner to consider the larger idea of gendered violence， is the one that will stick with me。

This essay collection intrigued and challenged me。 Not every essay sat well with me - there was one about two transgender people that was difficult to follow because it kept using both current names and deadnames seemingly interchangeably （I don’t know whether there are different naming conventions in Peru or Spain， or whether it was ignorance on the author’s part， but it didn’t sit well with me）; another essay was painful to read as it spoke very frankly about the author’s strong， negative feel This essay collection intrigued and challenged me。 Not every essay sat well with me - there was one about two transgender people that was difficult to follow because it kept using both current names and deadnames seemingly interchangeably （I don’t know whether there are different naming conventions in Peru or Spain， or whether it was ignorance on the author’s part， but it didn’t sit well with me）; another essay was painful to read as it spoke very frankly about the author’s strong， negative feelings toward her body。 Generally speaking though， the essays were insightful and， at times， relatable。 The title of this collection is confusing， however， as it doesn’t seem to reflect the content of all of the essays。 I’d like to finish this review by giving a shout out to the translators， who did a beautiful job of translating this work into English - it read poetically and that was a huge part of the appeal of this essay collection。 。。。more

（Peru）So many of these essays were surface level pieces that felt like “look at this crazy thing I did！” And that’s it。 The last essay on the other hand was a phenomenal feminist piece about interviewing a past abusive boyfriend who hadn’t changed at all and what “counts” as gender violence。 I wish she had been as open and raw in the rest of her writing。Also who mentions that they have both a husband AND a wife in the first essay and never mentions the wife again？！？

I read the Spanish language edition of this for a book club， and it seems like the selection of essays is slightly different than the English language edition？ My review is of the Spanish language edition。 Some essays were really interesting， but a lot of them were too brief and just skimmed the surface of topics that I thought deserved more time and depth。

Sexographies is an essay collection by Peruvian author Gabriela Wiener。 Despite what the title may suggest， not all the essays are related to sexual escapades - though some are。 She ponders a lot about life， love， female sexuality， polygamy， and much more。 I took several notes and didn’t expect to learn so much。 For instance - she had the chance to tour the San Pedro prison in Bolivia - a prison I’ve never heard of but “renowned for being a society within itself。” No guards actually work on the Sexographies is an essay collection by Peruvian author Gabriela Wiener。 Despite what the title may suggest， not all the essays are related to sexual escapades - though some are。 She ponders a lot about life， love， female sexuality， polygamy， and much more。 I took several notes and didn’t expect to learn so much。 For instance - she had the chance to tour the San Pedro prison in Bolivia - a prison I’ve never heard of but “renowned for being a society within itself。” No guards actually work on the inside。 The inmates run it， families live there with their incarcerated loved ones， and you have to pay for your room and board。If you’re a fan of Isabel Allende， she wrote one of her essays about time she spent with Allende （one of my least favorite essays， but others seemed to enjoy it！）。She’s a great writer， very insightful， and the translators did an excellent job。 。。。more

I loved the way the Author writes about all the crazy experiences she went through。 I enjoyed this book until the last chapter-then， i just wanted to finish it。 Yes，it’s about gender equality and it matter， but the story was too much from her side， it sounded rather like excuses for what happened。
