Summary

Hustlers meets Big Little Lies in the heist of the summer…

Meet Ava: rule-abiding lawyer who has ticked all of life’s boxes。 She’s married to a successful surgeon and has just taken an indefinite career break to raise her adorable toddler。 A picture-perfect life。

Meet Winnie: Ava’s old college roommate。 Once awkward, quiet and apparently academically challenged, she left Stanford in a shroud of scandal。 But now, she is charismatic, wealthy and has returned to town dripping in designer accessories。 An actual perfect life。

When the two women bump into one another at a local coffee shop, it seems like fate has intervened: Winnie’s new-found success is courtesy of a shady business and she needs a favour; Ava is realising she is not built for the stay-at-home life。 But what starts as one favour turns into two, then three, and soon Ava is in far deeper than she ever imagined。

Now Ava has to make the ultimate decision: cut and run, or risk it all?

A cunning whirlwind and, in the end, a triumph of friendship。

Think this would be a good beach read。 Decent story line。 Liked the characters。 Can't say it had me dying to know how it was gonna end。 It had a few little twists I didn't see coming。 Overall would recommend if you're looking for a nice, light read with a good plot。 Think this would be a good beach read。 Decent story line。 Liked the characters。 Can't say it had me dying to know how it was gonna end。 It had a few little twists I didn't see coming。 Overall would recommend if you're looking for a nice, light read with a good plot。 。。。more

Entertaining chick-lit, along the lines of crazy rich Asians, but with an entirely different situation。

the way this book had me in a chokehold 😩。 we love an unreliable narrator<3

I really liked the twists and unexpected characters in this book, but felt it was missing something。 It reminds me of my high school English teacher who would circle the last paragraph of my essays and tell me that my conclusion was actually my thesis。 Doing that with Counterfeit would have eliminated the surprise, but maybe a plot restructure would help?

Enjoyable read, and interesting how the counterfeiting worked。 I liked the way the author had the characters tell the story。

Anna Loder

A fun, quick delve into the world of high end counterfeit bags, I was completely there for the escape! It is definitely making some statements on class, culture, friendship and the American dream ‘a。。driverless car’

I don’t want to spoil anything about this book, I will say it is very clever, a quick and enjoyable read。 It is screaming to be adapted as a movie。 This is a great beach read choice。

I read this book as part of my neighborhood book club, and I was excited because it's a new author for me and a genre I don't read often。 Unfortunately, the book wasn't for me。 The plot is focused on counterfeit handbags, which is not a point of interest for me, but I was hoping for a fast-paced, heist book。 Unfortunately, COUNTERFEIT wasn't a heist book, and it wasn't fast-paced。 In fact, I didn't care for the writing style。 I felt like it was more telling than showing, as if I was reading back I read this book as part of my neighborhood book club, and I was excited because it's a new author for me and a genre I don't read often。 Unfortunately, the book wasn't for me。 The plot is focused on counterfeit handbags, which is not a point of interest for me, but I was hoping for a fast-paced, heist book。 Unfortunately, COUNTERFEIT wasn't a heist book, and it wasn't fast-paced。 In fact, I didn't care for the writing style。 I felt like it was more telling than showing, as if I was reading backstory the entire book。 Because of this, it was hard for me to care about the characters。 My favorite was Maria, the nanny, and Boss Mak, because they were interesting。。。 but I enjoy books where the narrator is the most compelling。 。。。more

I thought this was a really great book! It was suspenseful and kept me on my toes and wanting to read what happened next。 There was a plot twist I didn’t see coming towards the end。 Overall I recommend!

Fast beach type of read。 easy peasy。 kind of like eating one of those ice cream drumsticks。

This was a short, fun, and easy read。 Unfortunately, I was not able to connect to the characters and plot。 I wish there were more of a "rich people" element。 I loved how the story was told, the confession, and then glimpses into the past。Overall, great read if you need something easy and not dark。 This was a short, fun, and easy read。 Unfortunately, I was not able to connect to the characters and plot。 I wish there were more of a "rich people" element。 I loved how the story was told, the confession, and then glimpses into the past。Overall, great read if you need something easy and not dark。 。。。more

I picked this up on a whim from Half Price Books。 My library can't afford to try new authors often, but a number of patrons ask for whatever Reese's Book Club has chosen; this seemed a bit interesting, so I gave it a try。It's a good quick novel, with the story flowing well。 I wouldn't quite call it "popcorn" - maybe a beach read? The story is a con with low stakes and a sympathetic female protagonist。 It kind of reminded me of Snare in that way。 Both have a struggling mother who gets wrapped up i I picked this up on a whim from Half Price Books。 My library can't afford to try new authors often, but a number of patrons ask for whatever Reese's Book Club has chosen; this seemed a bit interesting, so I gave it a try。It's a good quick novel, with the story flowing well。 I wouldn't quite call it "popcorn" - maybe a beach read? The story is a con with low stakes and a sympathetic female protagonist。 It kind of reminded me of Snare in that way。 Both have a struggling mother who gets wrapped up in a con that involves smuggling goods。 You get attached emotionally to her。The narrative is very different, using second person point of view through much of the book。 It does help hook the reader, as though Ava is telling you her sad story of how she got entangled with her former classmate's schemes。There are some lovely twists。Overall, the language is clean (saved a few for the last page of the epilogue), and there is no violence。 。。。more

I read part 1 one evening, and when I picked it up another evening to finish, I almost immediately raised my eyebrows。 What?!? And then I flew through the rest of the book to get answers。 Well-titled。

Really entertaining! All about success, social class, race, and morality in modern culture within one woman’s narration of a con scheme she was roped into

Two former college classmates join forces in a clever scheme to make mega big bucks on designer handbags。 I learned so much about how exclusive handbags are sold and marketed。 Meanwhile, though, I was only minimally interested in the welfare of the two main characters。 I was very very concerned about Ava’s nonverbal son who spent most of his time screaming。 I even worried about the handbag king’s need for a liver transplant。 The main characters, Ava and Winnie? Meh。 The author Kirstin Chen has t Two former college classmates join forces in a clever scheme to make mega big bucks on designer handbags。 I learned so much about how exclusive handbags are sold and marketed。 Meanwhile, though, I was only minimally interested in the welfare of the two main characters。 I was very very concerned about Ava’s nonverbal son who spent most of his time screaming。 I even worried about the handbag king’s need for a liver transplant。 The main characters, Ava and Winnie? An entertaining, fast and fun read。 Nothing intellectual but I though the whole counterfeit industry plot was interesting and different。
