Summary

Siddhartha, a handsome Brahmin's son, is clever and well loved, yet increasingly dissatisfied with the life that is expected of him。 Setting out on a spiritual journey to discover a higher state of being, his quest leads him through the temptations of luxury and wealth, the pleasures of sensual love, and the sinister threat of death-dealing snakes, until, eventually, he comes to a river。 There a ferryman guides him towards his destiny, and to the ultimate meaning of existence。 Inspired by Hermann Hesse's profound regard for Indian transcendental philosophy and written in prose of graceful simplicity, Siddhartha is one of the most influential spiritual works of the twentieth century。

A somewhat enjoyable meandering through a strange life, which teaches, if anything, that constructing a story for one’s life can be more fruitful than just living it。

Due to the archaic writing, it was a bit tough to really get started in this book。 There are a lot of symbolic elements, everything is written in 3rd person (Siddhartha this, Siddhartha that,。。。), a lot of his motives are explicitly mentioned, etc。 It read more like a religious parable or textbook, and quite different from what I was used to in a novel。But nearly halfway I came to appreciate the style, the symbols, etc。 and really enjoyed the beauty of the message。 This is a greatly rewarding re Due to the archaic writing, it was a bit tough to really get started in this book。 There are a lot of symbolic elements, everything is written in 3rd person (Siddhartha this, Siddhartha that,。。。), a lot of his motives are explicitly mentioned, etc。 It read more like a religious parable or textbook, and quite different from what I was used to in a novel。But nearly halfway I came to appreciate the style, the symbols, etc。 and really enjoyed the beauty of the message。 This is a greatly rewarding read。 。。。more

Voor mij persoonlijk herinnert het me eraan dat men niet mag vergeten dat de weg belangrijker is dan de destinatie。 。。。more

Um livro muito bom, introspetivo, ao longo de toda a sua história existe um aprendizado constante, e uma evolução humana。 Resiliência e constante determinação elevam a outro patamar esta história。 Gostei bastante, recomendo。 A very good, introspective book, throughout its history there is constant learning, and human evolution。 Resilience and constant determination take this story to another level。 I really liked it, I recommend it。

Siddhartha follows the lifelong journey of a man seeking enlightenment。 He casts off his religious upbringing for a life of material wealth but returns to his enlightenment seeking ways once he realizes that the material world will never satisfy the quest of his soul。I liked and didn’t like this book。 It’s not the most entertaining read to be sure, but it poses some great questions about where one can find the meaning of life and has many themes that I think we should all try to learn from。 Ther Siddhartha follows the lifelong journey of a man seeking enlightenment。 He casts off his religious upbringing for a life of material wealth but returns to his enlightenment seeking ways once he realizes that the material world will never satisfy the quest of his soul。I liked and didn’t like this book。 It’s not the most entertaining read to be sure, but it poses some great questions about where one can find the meaning of life and has many themes that I think we should all try to learn from。 There is beauty in everything, wisdom and life even in the inanimate, good and evil present at all times in the same being, and peace in understanding how the incessant flow of the world far surpasses the individual。 I think I’ll try to be more appreciative of the good and the bad around me and maybe one day I, too, can find the peace that Siddhartha found。 。。。more
