A second excellent police procedural in the series with a cliff hanger ending!

4 1/2 Stars: I really like this series。 The plot was engaging, and though I figured out who the killer was relatively early, I still enjoyed the journey。 The characters were well drawn and the interpersonal dynamics seemed true to life。 Tracy Clark sprinkled humor throughout。 The ending was terrific。 I can’t wait for the next Harri Foster novel。

Babydoclaz,
Excellent second book in the Harriet Foster series! Ms。 Clark brings such life to her characters, I want to hang out and have coffee or a meal with them。 This was a very enjoyable read for me, dark humor where needed, with determined strong female characters。 Looking forward to the next one, which is, unfortunately a year away。

Tracy Clark has quickly become one of my favorite authors。 I thoroughly enjoyed her Cass Raines books, and I've very much enjoying the Harriet Foster stories。 As a Chicagoan, I really enjoyed Fall。 This book really captured all the little things about the city and it's personality。 In an effort not to spoil anything, I especially enjoyed how the political aspect of the story was told。 I'm old enough to know some of the longtime political players in the city。 When reading and seeing the behavior Tracy Clark has quickly become one of my favorite authors。 I thoroughly enjoyed her Cass Raines books, and I've very much enjoying the Harriet Foster stories。 As a Chicagoan, I really enjoyed Fall。 This book really captured all the little things about the city and it's personality。 In an effort not to spoil anything, I especially enjoyed how the political aspect of the story was told。 I'm old enough to know some of the longtime political players in the city。 When reading and seeing the behavior of a couple of characters, I couldn't help but picture certain political figures in my head。 For me that added a sprinkle of fun to the story。 All of her books do a great job in capturing the essence of Chicago。 Fall is the book that fully embraces Chicago as a part of the story。This one got it's hooks in me pretty quickly, and I was on my sleuthing journey to see if I could determine the killer。 Tracy Clark weaves a solid story together and balances everything very well。 I enjoyed how the sub plot crept it's way into the story。 It tied back to Hide and sets itself up for a future book。 It's not done in a way to make this required reading, but it's done to leave you anticipating what's next for Detective Harriet Foster and her fellow officers。 There's a nice X-Men nod in there too, which I couldn't help but smile like a 14 year old after reading it。 It's a engaging read。 。。。more

I didn't like this as much as the first one, but I still liked it。 The story of the corrupt and murdered aldermans kept me interested and Clark writes about the city of Chicago well - I always enjoy the world-building in her stories。 I was less enamored with a secondary plot thread that's introduced late, and not resolved, because it will, most likely, be fodder for a third book。 Normally I'd be OK with this, but Clark did a similar sort of thing in Book 4 of the Cass Raines series (which was pu I didn't like this as much as the first one, but I still liked it。 The story of the corrupt and murdered aldermans kept me interested and Clark writes about the city of Chicago well - I always enjoy the world-building in her stories。 I was less enamored with a secondary plot thread that's introduced late, and not resolved, because it will, most likely, be fodder for a third book。 Normally I'd be OK with this, but Clark did a similar sort of thing in Book 4 of the Cass Raines series (which was published in 2021) and I'm still waiting on Book 5。 And since the Harriet Foster series is published by Amazon, and the Cass Raines books published by Kensington - I've accepted the fact I'm in for either a long wait or no Book 5 at all。。。 。。。more

Fall is the second book in the Detective Harriet Foster series by American author, Tracy Clark。 Is it a coincidence that, mere weeks after corrupt Chicago City Council alderman, Marin Shaw is released from her three-year prison sentence, two other aldermen in their guilty clique, who left her high and dry, are dead? Two violent deaths in a violent town, but Detective Harriet Foster and her partner, Detective Vera Li don’t believe in coincidences, and Marin has had three years to build up her resentment。 Add to that the thirty dimes found on, or in, each of their bodies: thirty pieces of silver。Thing is, there are several others with motives for killing Alderman Deanna Leonard and Alderman George Vasquez, not least of those being mayoral aspirant, Alderman John ‘Cubby’ Meehan, whose ruthlessness is well-known。 Also, Marin’s priority seems to be getting custody of her now-thirteen-year-old daughter: would she jeopardise that to get revenge?Distracting Harriet from the case is an anonymously delivered photograph, and a blackmail threat that relates to her former partner’s suicide some six months earlier。 She is quietly determined to ensure that Glynnis Thompson’s reputation is not sullied, but a perceptive Vera Li stays on her case to share her troubles。 In a plot that features the team checking a lot of CCTV footage, various suspects having short-lived affairs, a stolen key, a missing overcoat, bribes to a doorman, quite a few selfish and/or self-centred types, and not a few dodgy alibis, there are twists and turns to keep the reader guessing right up to the point where one of those suspects begins to wonder about someone… The banter between the characters is entertaining, and Clark is fleshing out the regular cast so they are a team the reader looks forward to encountering again, quite likely as a certain background issue is yet to be resolved。 Readers will eagerly anticipate the next volume in this excellent crime fiction series。 This unbiased review is from an uncorrected proof copy provided by NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer。 。。。more

Not exactly。 But I did feel like the identity was too poorly disguised to help add proper suspense to the plot。As for the characters。。。 Once again, I liked Vera Li so much better than our actual main character and partner Harriet Foster。 She is growing on me a little, but there is just something very cliche about her and some of her actions can get really frustrating。 That whole mess with her former partner also distracted considerably from the main case, and I kind of wish it wouldn't have been there。 I did like the banter between the detectives working on the case, and I enjoyed following them around as they try to solve the puzzle。All in all I can't deny that I preferred the first book, but Fall was still worth the read for me。 I will probably still read the next book as well to see how the whole personal situation will unfold。。。 Although part of me hopes the main focus will be on a new murder investigation instead。 (hide spoiler)] P。S。 Find more of my reviews here。["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more

Or is somebody else going after high profile political targets。I found ‘Fall’ to be a very solid police procedural book that captured my attention and had me finishing the book in a few days。 I think Harriet is a compelling cop heroine character and with all the trauma she has in her past, and is still suffering from, I was just cheering for her to come away with a win and solve the cases, to prove to herself she can still go on and keep functioning。 A really great read, 4 stars。** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher** 。。。more

This was not as fast paced as the first。 That being said I was intrigued。 And I actually figured out who the killer was pretty early but that didn’t deter me from the story。 I’m really intrigued by the thread she started about her deceased partner。 I knew that would not wrap up。 So I’m dying for next book。 Foster is a strong, no nonsense heroine。 And I love Li her new partner。 I also love her boss。 So many strong female leads。 This series is great。 And I’m going to be diving into this authors ba This was not as fast paced as the first。 That being said I was intrigued。 And I actually figured out who the killer was pretty early but that didn’t deter me from the story。 I’m really intrigued by the thread she started about her deceased partner。 I knew that would not wrap up。 So I’m dying for next book。 Foster is a strong, no nonsense heroine。 And I love Li her new partner。 I also love her boss。 So many strong female leads。 This series is great。 And I’m going to be diving into this authors backlist。 She has a new fan! 。。。more

This was a terrific follow-up in the Detective Harriet Foster series。 Harriet & her new partner Li are on the case。 City officials are being murdered and while many people have motives, fingers are pointing to disgraced Alderman Marin Shaw。Harriet and her team race against the clock to figure out the murderer。 I figured it out at the 60% mark, but it was interesting to see how the case played out。 This story was more suspense than thriller, but I enjoyed the who done it。 There was a secondary ca This was a terrific follow-up in the Detective Harriet Foster series。 Harriet & her new partner Li are on the case。 City officials are being murdered and while many people have motives, fingers are pointing to disgraced Alderman Marin Shaw。Harriet and her team race against the clock to figure out the murderer。 I figured it out at the 60% mark, but it was interesting to see how the case played out。 This story was more suspense than thriller, but I enjoyed the who done it。 There was a secondary case thrown in halfway through the book that didn't quite flow。 There was no resolution do I'm assuming there will be a follow-up book。 Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for this ARC。 。。。more

Thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for this eARC。 Detective Harriet Foster returns to her Chicago beat, in this second book in this series, as this top cop joins forces with her partner, Detective Vera Li, as she attempts to solve a baffling series of murders based on revenge。 That isn't her only challenge as she deals with coworkers who judge her with the rancor of sexism and prejudice。As always, the author Tracy Clark excels in writing another entertaining and captivating police procedur Thanks to the publisher and to Netgalley for this eARC。 Detective Harriet Foster returns to her Chicago beat, in this second book in this series, as this top cop joins forces with her partner, Detective Vera Li, as she attempts to solve a baffling series of murders based on revenge。 That isn't her only challenge as she deals with coworkers who judge her with the rancor of sexism and prejudice。As always, the author Tracy Clark excels in writing another entertaining and captivating police procedural。 。。。more
