4。75 stars I love when Karina gives us the creepy because it is SO creepy。 You feel the hairs on your arms raise as you read。 This was retelling done right。 Kat was fierce， Brom was scarred， and Crane was haunted---a trifecta of angst， spice， and creepiness that left me losing my head for Legend 😉

Retellings are hard for me because I’m a visual person and I have a good memory。 Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was a Halloween staple in my house growing up。 My brothers and I would plan our whole evening around watching it。 So when I tell you the cartoon Disney version of Ichabod Crane with the huge nose and ponytail with a bow is ingrained in my brain， I mean it is law。This was always going to be a tough read because of that， I literally can not picture him any other way。 Multiple times Retellings are hard for me because I’m a visual person and I have a good memory。 Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was a Halloween staple in my house growing up。 My brothers and I would plan our whole evening around watching it。 So when I tell you the cartoon Disney version of Ichabod Crane with the huge nose and ponytail with a bow is ingrained in my brain， I mean it is law。This was always going to be a tough read because of that， I literally can not picture him any other way。 Multiple times I had to click over to the authors Pinterest board for the books inspo specifically to get the image out my head。 The h on her knees being whipped in the barn with a crop by a kinky Disney version Ichabod Crane who wants to mount her like a horse is just such a mind fuck and not hot。 It’s not the authors fault。 It’s just how I am with retellings。 It made the story hard to get into for me though and there was a campiness that I thought was really fun but I’m not sure that’s the vibe she was really going for。 I think it was just my own associations with this story and the cartoon。 Was the headless horseman breaking into the hs bedroom with the decapitated head of some dude who touched her with the intentions to impregnate her snd rip some bodices supposed to scary or what？ I think it was supposed to be scary but it just read as campy to me！ Still super fun though， but not haunting and scary。 The storyline itself was interesting and fun。 I like the way the whole menage thing and their magic is being incorporated into the plot。 The beginning is slow to start， the headless horseman doesn’t show up until like 50% and no one loses their head until like 65%。 I was getting impatient waiting！ Again， a problem I always have with retellings。 The book can be overly wordy in parts due to their being three POVs and things getting hashed out multiple times in all these different POVs， it felt repetitive at parts。 There’s just a lot going on and a lot that needed to be set up。 Book two will probably be the stronger executed of the books judging by the last half of this book one。 As the author got more settled into the story the writing was better executed。 Now onto the relationship stuff。 There’s a lot to unpack here。 MMF menage is tough for me because sometimes the h can feel like a third wheel or she’s used as a “good excuse” for the men to be together。 So already I was wary about this relationship and I’m not sure it totally worked for me。 I didn’t hate it as much as some with this dynamic but I didn’t like it as much as I have liked others。 I like that Crane had a relationship with Brom prior to even meeting the h。 I didn’t like that Brom literally ran away from the h， with intentions to always come back for her， and bumped into Crane。 I really didn’t like the reason why Brom ran away and I’m bummed because I was finding him to be the most interesting character。 Its boarder line cheating for me and given that he is such a sweet guy and so in love with the h it really cheapen their relationship。 I need to process this and how I feel about it more。 But anyways， so the relationship dynamic just isn’t my fav。 Having a hard time wrapping my head around a dorky， terrified， dom version of Disneys Icabbob Crane holding these two little subs together as the one tries to kill or impregnate the other is just so disturbing。 。。。more
