This feels like it was written for pre teens。 Not sure when Dennis E。 Taylor wrote this book, but I'm suspecting it is based on material from early in his writing career。 His other books are much much better。 This feels like it was written for pre teens。 Not sure when Dennis E。 Taylor wrote this book, but I'm suspecting it is based on material from early in his writing career。 His other books are much much better。 。。。more

A fun book to read。 Off to school in a hurry, jump in the car, and you hit something you didn't see。 Looking at the damaged car you trip over something you can't see and there goes the story。 We have a sentient ship, aliens attempting to change earths atmosphere, and remove humans。 A fun read。 A fun book to read。 Off to school in a hurry, jump in the car, and you hit something you didn't see。 Looking at the damaged car you trip over something you can't see and there goes the story。 We have a sentient ship, aliens attempting to change earths atmosphere, and remove humans。 A fun read。 。。。more

I actually really enjoyed this。 Great story, characters, and all around ideas。 This book could have been a five star for me but I found myself eye rolling at all the times exciting stuff would be happening and they suddenly oh we need to sleep。 Coffee, sleep, coffee, sleep, at one point it was almost back to back to back and found annoying。 Then the attempts to place political views and wokeness once again made me eye roll。 Because of that I give it a 4 star。 Really enjoyed this

I had such high hopes with this one, it started off pretty good, except I couldn't get past the fact that it reminded me so much of expeditionary forces, I don't know if it's because I finished binge listening to them a few months ago, and it's too soon or what。 the 3rd quarter of it was boring, i kept tuning out, i tuned back in towards the end but realized I didn't miss anything when they basically recounted what happened。 I can't recall how exactly they saved the world, but he assured me at t I had such high hopes with this one, it started off pretty good, except I couldn't get past the fact that it reminded me so much of expeditionary forces, I don't know if it's because I finished binge listening to them a few months ago, and it's too soon or what。 the 3rd quarter of it was boring, i kept tuning out, i tuned back in towards the end but realized I didn't miss anything when they basically recounted what happened。 I can't recall how exactly they saved the world, but he assured me at the end that he saved the world。 。。。more

I read the Bob1verse series (book 1 - 4) and loved them。 The fourth book not being my favorite。 I found the story idea original in the same way each superhero movie is technically original but still the same as most other superhero movies。 The talking AI feels a lot like the Skippy character from the Mavericks series by Craig Alanson。 The only difference is the sarcasm used by Taylor is not as funny。 In my option, Taylor is great at world-building and making you care about his characters。 This w I read the Bob1verse series (book 1 - 4) and loved them。 The fourth book not being my favorite。 I found the story idea original in the same way each superhero movie is technically original but still the same as most other superhero movies。 The talking AI feels a lot like the Skippy character from the Mavericks series by Craig Alanson。 The only difference is the sarcasm used by Taylor is not as funny。 In my option, Taylor is great at world-building and making you care about his characters。 This was not the case in this story。 The only character I cared about was Jack because he is the only one that has a good back story and you meet his family。 The other characters have backstories but they are not compelling。 The same is in Alanson's Mavericks the humans always came up with brilliant ideas that the "all-knowing" AI never considered。 This always seems very egotistical to me。I never felt that the characters were in any real danger and they just overcome all their obstacles without a lot of effort。The alien was also nothing more than a bigger, more intelligent earth animal。 The same thing Alanson did with his aliens。The story is fast-paced and I enjoyed that there were no conversations that continues for tenths of pages。If you read this with low expectations then you will enjoy the ride。 I was disappointed because of the previous high quality of the Bobiverse series。 Taylor should stick to large-scale universes with interesting characters。 He should stick to hard science and leave the comedy to others。 He has a huge following among people that appreciate him for his hard science and world-building abilities。I admire that he tried something different but in my opinion, it was far less successful than his previous works。 。。。more

Loved the conceptThis was again a great book。 There are some holes but they are ignorable。 Some of the concepts presented like oxygen %, is quite thought provoking。 Overall a very enjoyable read

This novel is full of stereotypes, yet it is perfectly balanced。 What could be a disastrous first contact event becomes even more disastrous。 Entertaining cast of characters, intense plot, and good old human ingenuity in the face of interstellar beaurocray。

A fun take on sci-fi, the alien kind。 Definitely has the same feel as the Bobiverse。 Would recommend for a light-hearted break from more intense sci-fi novels。

Wow, what an exceptional book! This is a perfect example of "if you can't be first, be best"。 There is little new about this book, but it is so well written, it is still hard to put down。I won't go into all of the different books that this one is similar to, or say that it's "this mixed with that", because in every case I feel it would do this book a disservice。 Suffice go say it all feels very familiar, but fresh。The characters are interesting。 They are not extensively developed, but enough that Wow, what an exceptional book! This is a perfect example of "if you can't be first, be best"。 There is little new about this book, but it is so well written, it is still hard to put down。I won't go into all of the different books that this one is similar to, or say that it's "this mixed with that", because in every case I feel it would do this book a disservice。 Suffice go say it all feels very familiar, but fresh。The characters are interesting。 They are not extensively developed, but enough that they feel familiar。 The story is only about 8 hours long, and there is a lot to cover, so the characters feel developed enough, without slowing the pace of the plot。The settings are all very familiar, farm land, barns, spartan space ships, etc。 It all feels lived in and a place we've been a thousand times, without ever visiting。The plot is straight forward enough to keep things moving without being rushed。 The classic Taylor problem-solving is in play and the story relies on the characters being clever and not soldiers or hitmen。 It is a refreshing change to the typical story of this type。The voice narration, by Ray Porter, is first rate as always。 He has a genuine way of talking/reading that brings the story to life。 His range of male voices is good, and female voices is adequate for the story。 I love listening to his work。All in all, this is a great book。 It all feels familiar, without being tired。 It is a new take of other similar stories that has a Dennis E Taylor flavor。 Even if you think "this is like - - - - -" I can gaurentee you it isn't, and it's better。 With the added bonus of top shelf voice narration, this book is hard to put down。 。。。more

Enjoyable! Is the story perfect,? I enjoyed the humor in this book and the general banter between the young characters。 What would a lot of young people do if they were involved in a alien accidentally being killed and finding a space ship? food for thought。

Somewhat of a flashback to the old Heinlein juveniles and other authors of that period - some scrappy young people encounter aliens and come to take joyrides in a spaceship while battling a potential alien invastion。 Infuse that with modern sensibilities about the value of female characters, 2020-era technology, etc。, and you have a light, enjoyable read。

Great 1st contact story with a sugarcoated/childish ending。 Probably not worth revisiting but im a sucker for Ray Porter + DET team up。 + Some good takeaways about conspiracy theories。

Mr。 Taylor is a wonderful and entertaining story writer。 I suspect most people who listened to this tale are fans of his Bobiverse novels, which with the exception of the most recent installment, are fantastic。Regarding Roadkill, Taylor has written another fast-paced and entertaining entry for his literary pantheon。 The characters are wonderfully funny (this is Taylor's big strength) and their dialogue clips back and forth masterfully。 As sci-fi stories go, it's more fun than believable, but tha Mr。 Taylor is a wonderful and entertaining story writer。 I suspect most people who listened to this tale are fans of his Bobiverse novels, which with the exception of the most recent installment, are fantastic。Regarding Roadkill, Taylor has written another fast-paced and entertaining entry for his literary pantheon。 The characters are wonderfully funny (this is Taylor's big strength) and their dialogue clips back and forth masterfully。 As sci-fi stories go, it's more fun than believable, but thanks to Taylor's strong grasp of various sci-fi/scientific concepts, the story never ventures into the silly。I have a few gripes that prevented me from giving the story a perfect score。 First, the dialogue between the three main characters is almost too good。 At times, it almost feels like you watching a 90's sitcom; at any moment, you half expect Chandler or Rachel to walk into a scene。 Not sure if that makes sense, but it's the best way I can describe it。 The main characters are almost too cute and smart。For my second quibble, he should have used a different narrator。 Ray Porter narrates the Bobiverse novels and he's magnificent。 He's equally amazing this go around, but, as I listened to him, I kept waiting for Bob the Ship/AI to make a cross-over appearance。 Thankfully, he didn't。 And yes of course Mr。 Porter narrates many other books, but because of Mr。 Taylor's writing style, Mr。 Porter's voice work created what I'm describing as an associative listening experience (not sure if this makes sense。。。)In any event, these grips are minor。 In sum, Roadkill is a fun and highly entertaining novel and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys sci-fi or adventure-thrillers。 。。。more

Average, popcorn, Y/A, sci-fi story, about the random discovery and salvage of an alien crewless ship, by a group of human friends, that make their mission to save the world from an impending maleficent interstellar invasion, during their summer break, ofc。If it sounds cheese, that's because it is。The book doesn't disappoint, it's smart, fluent, funny in most places, and feels like an easy read throughout。 Yet, I wouldn't read a second installment if this would turn into a series。 Average, popcorn, Y/A, sci-fi story, about the random discovery and salvage of an alien crewless ship, by a group of human friends, that make their mission to save the world from an impending maleficent interstellar invasion, during their summer break, ofc。If it sounds cheese, that's because it is。The book doesn't disappoint, it's smart, fluent, funny in most places, and feels like an easy read throughout。 Yet, I wouldn't read a second installment if this would turn into a series。 。。。more

I guess I feel like he should have adapted his style better, or made the characters older。But the humor and banter was often amusing in any case。 The sci-fi bits were fun。 And the book was fun。 It says something that I read the book in 3 days with little effort。If you want a simple alien invasion story that you don't have to think about too much, with aliens and a grump AI, this is a fun time。 。。。more

As an AI language model, I do not have personal opinions or feelings, but I can provide a summary of the book 'Roadkill'。 'Roadkill' is a thriller novel written by Pete Hautman and published in 2006。 The book revolves around a group of six high school students who go on a road trip from Wisconsin to Arizona to attend a rock concert。 The journey turns into a nightmare when they accidentally hit a deer on the road and decide to take it with them。 Things get worse when they encounter a couple of psychopaths who start stalking them, and the group becomes stranded in a deserted area in the middle of the night。 The story follows the group as they struggle to survive against multiple threats, including hunger, thirst, and the dangerous individuals chasing them。 The plot is filled with suspense and unexpected twists, making it a thrilling read for fans of the genre。 The book also touches on themes of friendship, trust, and survival in extreme circumstances。
