This one was fine but half of it was storyline that we’ve already learned throughout the other books。 If you’re looking for more of the Royals this one is for you but it doesn’t seem necessary for the rest of the series。One part of this reminded me of the scene in The Princess Diaries when the convertible hits the bus。This is the first one of these books that I’ve listened to on audio but I didn’t like that the voice for Sam sounded very valley girl? I would have liked this better in order, rather than as a prequel

After reading this, I have come to a conclusion。 I NEED JEFF AND NINA TO GET BACK TOGETHER IN RIVALS! That’s it。

I enjoyed this book! If you liked the selection series by Kiera Cass you’ll like this

A cute novella with characters I absolutely love!

Brennan Klein

A useless prequel that reestablishes character dynamics that we already know intimately and retells the story of a night that has already been fully explained in the main series。 Truly feels like it was written in three hours。

I am counting down the days until the third book is finally released

Rachel | The Tea Cup Half Full

What a fun, little novella that explains the night that kicked off the entire series!

i had 30% of this left and realized i could literally care lessprequel novellas always feel like a waste of my time and this one was no exceptionstories featured:- bea and connor get stranded in a car - nina has feelings for jefferson (are we shocked)- daphne is about to put himari into that coma at the party- sam runs off with Random Hot Chef Guy liam (who is conveniently old enough to work in the White House but young enough to go on a date with sam, 18 y/o) to go to a concert

Did we need this prequel? No。 Did I have a lot of fun listening to it and returning to this reimagined world where the Washington's reign? Yes, yes I did。 This novella details a night at Jefferson & Sam's graduation party where many of the events that serve as a catalyst for Book 1 in the series are teased out a bit further and I did really appreciate this look behind the curtain and it whetted my appetite for Book 3 to come out later this summer。 And, bonus, it was a whole lot of fun on audio a Did we need this prequel? While I am an American Royals fanatic, I am going to give you permission to skip this one。 No new/additional info really divulged。 Feeled like an extended version of recycled content?

Maddie

Not necessarily new info, but a fun, quick story to bring you back into the American Royals world!

Caitlin

Brought us back to the joy of Book 1 before things got all mucked up! Does this bode well that this prequel is trying to get us back on course for Book 3? 🤞🤞

Well written and a fun quick read。 It rehashes a lot of what we already new from book one, but it’s a fun distraction while we wait for book 3。

Morgan | themanicuredreader

I would listen to/read about these characters forever。 They could be doing the most mundane things & I would enjoy it! That being said, I don’t think this prequel was necessary, but it was fun & I can’t wait until the third installment drops。

Amber

To say I’m obsessed with this series would be an understatement。 I really did need all the tea on this party。 But I will forever be crying for justice for Beatrice and Connor 🥺😭

ALC received from LibroFM, thanks!3。5 starsI have really enjoyed the first two books in this series and will definitely be reading the third when it comes out。 I was excited to see this novella, and that it takes place before any of the books。 However, it feels kind of weird… Mostly because I know how these relationships end up after the second book, and I’m not really sure why we needed to have them sort of rehashed right before the third book comes out。 Is it some sort of foreshadowing for the ALC received from LibroFM, thanks!3。5 starsI have really enjoyed the first two books in this series and will definitely be reading the third when it comes out。 I was excited to see this novella, and that it takes place before any of the books。 However, it feels kind of weird… Mostly because I know how these relationships end up after the second book, and I’m not really sure why we needed to have them sort of rehashed right before the third book comes out。 Is it some sort of foreshadowing for the third book? Because decisions were made that I wasn’t happy with in the second book, so this novella kind of feels like a slap in the face? And if it’s not foreshadowing, what’s the point? It does cover a fairly significant event that has importance in the other books, but it’s also described quite a bit in them, so again, what’s the point?Anyway, it was a quick little read and reminded me that occasionally I do actually read and like m/f romance。 😬 。。。more

Being a huge fan of the American Royals series, I loved this prequel novella that takes you back in time to the night of the infamous graduation party, to the beginnings of Nina and Prince Jefferson’s relationship and more。I love in true McGee style, the different perspectives of what happened that night giving all the tea of what is to come。 This added further depth to the reasoning behind certain decisions that changed the trajectory of the story。Additionally, the narration by Brittany Pressle Being a huge fan of the American Royals series, I loved this prequel novella that takes you back in time to the night of the infamous graduation party, to the beginnings of Nina and Prince Jefferson’s relationship and more。I love in true McGee style, the different perspectives of what happened that night giving all the tea of what is to come。 This added further depth to the reasoning behind certain decisions that changed the trajectory of the story。Additionally, the narration by Brittany Pressley was superb as always。Thank you Penguin Random House Audio for the alc。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

Ahh, love love love。 This was great, makes me so excited for book number 3 coming out in a few months。 I truly love everything about this series and these books, Katharine McGee does such a great job of creating this world and I love every second of it。 Would recommend the audiobook for anyone who has read the first two books, honestly even just the first one。

I love this series 👑 this very short prequel novella covers what happened before book one。 I will say there is not any new information and is a very brief overview of the characters but for fans of this series it was cute to see these start of it。 This also got me super excited for book 3! Ekkk! 👑💕👑💕

Still don't think the one horrid person in this book should get everything they want。 I hope Book 3 sorts all that out。 I'm just glad there is one。。。 I was worried for a second。 Still don't think the one horrid person in this book should get everything they want。 I hope Book 3 sorts all that out。 I'm just glad there is one。。。 I was worried for a second。 。。。more

I can’t even put into words how happy I am that we finally got the full story of what happened That Night™This was so great。

Gabrielle Massari

Cute little story giving context to graduation night for the main characters! Wish it had a little more Nina but will hold me over till #3 is out!

Deborah Zeman

I really wanted to like this one。 It was good to learn the background for each of the lead characters but it made me sad to know that not all of them end up together。 I listened to the audiobook。 Not bad, although it would have been nice to hear a male voice。 A female narrator as a male voice took away from the story。

Hayley Comeau

Obsessed with this series so a little prequel was great

Jacqueline

This was a completely unnecessary prequel。 But I also didn’t completely hate it。 I’m ready for more Daphne drama in book 3。

Brooke Law

Fun and splashy as always, but ultimately without substance。 Absolutely nothing of consequence happens。
