Or will Winston just become another person annihilated by the party?I really enjoyed this novel as it was very thought-provoking。 The characters were not the most well-developed but that did not restrain George Orwell from achieving the novel’s purpose。 Orwell wrote the novel to warn against the dangers of blind devotion to a political party and that this blind following allows ideologies like communism and fascism to thrive。 This novel is full of paradoxes。 For example, the “IngSoc” party of Oceania has four ministries, each devoted to a pillar of the party’s brainwashing techniques to influence citizens。 As Winston states “the Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation。” Contradiction is an effective literary technique utilized by Orwell and demonstrates the hypocrisy and empty promises that accompany communism and fascism。 I believe this book is a great read for those high school age and above。 The book can be confusing and has some adult themes, which may make it unsuitable for younger readers。 In order to get the most out of this novel, it helps if the reader has studied or has some sense of the historical themes behind the novel。 。。。more

The concept of a totalitarian distopia is extraordinarily portraid in this classical novel。 However, character building and insights into their psychological being could have been more elaborate, which would have enabled an in-depth understanding of the true subjective perception of such a world。Nevertheless, in today's time where fake news and propaganda are all over modern media, the book is more relevant than ever before。 For the educated mind, it will certainly be obvious that it represents The concept of a totalitarian distopia is extraordinarily portraid in this classical novel。 However, character building and insights into their psychological being could have been more elaborate, which would have enabled an in-depth understanding of the true subjective perception of such a world。Nevertheless, in today's time where fake news and propaganda are all over modern media, the book is more relevant than ever before。 For the educated mind, it will certainly be obvious that it represents a critical discourse of communism and capitalism, however the easily-affected reader might use it as a starting point for novel conspiracies against their respective governmental authorities。All in all, a must read! 。。。more

The book 1984 by George Orwell, emphasizes the idea of suppression, communism, totalitarian governing, and the dangers it can lead to。 The book explores a dystopian society where technology plays a key role in society。 A society where 'Big Brother' watches every single thing you do through every technology you own。 The familiar saying that "who controls the past controls the future。 Who controls the present controls the past" depicts what the world has become; every single thing you do can chang The book 1984 by George Orwell, emphasizes the idea of suppression, communism, totalitarian governing, and the dangers it can lead to。 The book explores a dystopian society where technology plays a key role in society。 A society where 'Big Brother' watches every single thing you do through every technology you own。 The familiar saying that "who controls the past controls the future。 Who controls the present controls the past" depicts what the world has become; every single thing you do can change your life, and those who are more powerful can change the world。 George Orwell was inspired by many incidents that occurred in 1984, which he published this book not too long after the publication of a similar book, Animal Farm。 Orwell was a socialist who battled great and overruling perspectives by challenging those ideas indirectly using satire, fables, or Allegory。 He uses past incidents such as the Russian Revolution to create and act as an inspiration for the witty stories he writes。 What I like about this book is the stunningly witty technique that creates a journey that is thrilling and strengthens the curiosity and cognitive thinking of society and its appearance。 Orwell, elegantly transforms a futuristic society and produces incredible works that empower the mind。 Personally, Orwell's books have connected me to engage in politics and modern history。 I would highly recommend that those who want to challenge your imagination and your intellect should definetely pick up this book and dig in。 I would rate this book 5 out of 5! 。。。more

Didn't love it - I'd read the first 2 sections before and in my opinion those were the best parts。 An important and influential book, of course, but on a personal level I didn't take a lot from it and mostly it just made me feel uncomfortable。 Didn't love it - I'd read the first 2 sections before and in my opinion those were the best parts。 An important and influential book, of course, but on a personal level I didn't take a lot from it and mostly it just made me feel uncomfortable。 。。。more

This book was - to sum up in one word - haunting。 Absolutely haunting。 Orwell's in-depth portrayal of this totalitarian, surveillance state frightened me too much to keep reading on more than one occasion, which is partly why it took so long for me to finish it。 As a high school student, I had never read such a powerful cautionary tale before。 Definitely deserves the reputation and acclaim it gets。 Would read it again in the future。 This book was - to sum up in one word - haunting。 Absolutely haunting。 Orwell's in-depth portrayal of this totalitarian, surveillance state frightened me too much to keep reading on more than one occasion, which is partly why it took so long for me to finish it。 As a high school student, I had never read such a powerful cautionary tale before。 Definitely deserves the reputation and acclaim it gets。 Would read it again in the future。 。。。more

Substitute "unorthodox" with "problematic" and this could be in the "Current Affairs" section at the library。 I read this book a few years ago and it was scary。 Now, it sounds like real daily life。 Some parts were a little boring, but I'm saving the "New speak" appendix because it may come in handy。 Substitute "unorthodox" with "problematic" and this could be in the "Current Affairs" section at the library。 I read this book a few years ago and it was scary。 Now, it sounds like real daily life。 Some parts were a little boring, but I'm saving the "New speak" appendix because it may come in handy。 。。。more
