Summary

A heart-pounding new series set in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world, with a scientist fighting to save the timber wolves—and getting caught in a deadly trap herself。。。

Lydia Susi is passionate about protecting wolves in their natural habitat。 When a hotel chain develops a tract of land next to the preserve, Lydia is one of the most vocal opponents of the project—and becomes a target。

One night, a shadowy figure threatens Lydia’s life in the forest, and a new hire at the Wolf Study Project comes from out of nowhere to save her。 Daniel Joseph is both mysterious, and someone she intrinsically wants to trust。 But is he hiding something?

As the stakes get higher, and one of Lydia’s colleagues is murdered, she must decide how far she will go to protect the wolves。 Then a shocking revelation about Daniel challenges Lydia’s reality in ways she could never have predicted。 Some fates demand courage, others require even more, with no guarantees。 Is she destined to have true love。。。 or will a soul-shattering loss ruin her forever?

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would。 Interesting plot twists, and the major subplot involves Xhex and John Matthew - I always love more of them! Looking forward to the next installment。

Daniel & LydiaLiked this book, not loved but liked。 Daniel is a drifter who happens upon a job opportunity at the place where Lydia works。 Lydia is animal behaviorist who is all about saving wolves at the preservation center。 Lots of twists and turns, lies abound。 Good book。 Have to wait an entire year to find out if they have an HEA or not。

This was a good start for a new series。 It read like a contemporary mystery for the most parts, except for the Brotherhood bits, and I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop。 But the paranormal element didn’t appear until the very end, and then it turned out this book was only a set-up for a series。 Everything was left open。 There’s no conclusion and no happily ever after, which left me a little unhappy。I don’t mind that we’ll continue with the same characters—provided that we do。 I liked Lydia This was a good start for a new series。 It read like a contemporary mystery for the most parts, except for the Brotherhood bits, and I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop。 But the paranormal element didn’t appear until the very end, and then it turned out this book was only a set-up for a series。 Everything was left open。 There’s no conclusion and no happily ever after, which left me a little unhappy。I don’t mind that we’ll continue with the same characters—provided that we do。 I liked Lydia and Daniel both, and I want them to have their happy ending。 And Xhex is always great。As a Finn, I found the ”Finnish” bits really cringey, and the grandfather being a Catholic downright aggravating (we’re Protestants here)。 And the ”clever” use of a Finnish name revealed the great secret from the get-go。 Though even with it, I found the ”plot twist” really poorly handled and coming out of the blue。 It would’ve added depth to the character if it had been brought up earlier。This book didn’t quite reach the level of other BDB spin-offs, but the cliffhanger ending assures I’ll continue with the series。 。。。more

Once I started reading Claimed, I couldn't stop。 Lydia's work as a wolf behaviorist first drew me to the story, and then the world building kept me glued to the pages。 I liked the way Lydia and Daniel interacted, they are a fascinating couple。 I felt sorry for the lovelorn veterinarian who knew he didn't have a chance with Lydia。 This is a new series and I can't wait to find out more about the local sheriff, and the hints of what is actually happening in this small community in rural upstate New Once I started reading Claimed, I couldn't stop。 Lydia's work as a wolf behaviorist first drew me to the story, and then the world building kept me glued to the pages。 I liked the way Lydia and Daniel interacted, they are a fascinating couple。 I felt sorry for the lovelorn veterinarian who knew he didn't have a chance with Lydia。 This is a new series and I can't wait to find out more about the local sheriff, and the hints of what is actually happening in this small community in rural upstate New York。There is a crossover between this book and the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which didn't seem to make sense until later in the book。 I'm really looking forward to the next book to see where all these threads lead to。 。。。more

Every person who reads has favorite authors。 We read everything they write。 We eagerly await each new book。 J。R。 Ward is one of my favorites。 That being said, it doesn't mean we love every book。 I didn't love this one。It wasn't because of the subject matter。 Some Ward fans love vampire books, exclusively, and this is not primarily a vampire book。 That's OK, I like shifter books, too。It wasn't because of the characters。 I loved the main characters。 I still have some questions about other characte Every person who reads has favorite authors。 We read everything they write。 We eagerly await each new book。 J。R。 Ward is one of my favorites。 That being said, it doesn't mean we love every book。 I didn't love this one。It wasn't because of the subject matter。 Some Ward fans love vampire books, exclusively, and this is not primarily a vampire book。 That's OK, I like shifter books, too。It wasn't because of the characters。 I loved the main characters。 I still have some questions about other characters, but maybe they will be resolved in future books。It wasn't because of the plot。 I found that interesting, with some drama and several surprises。What I found lacking was thought progression。 I may love paranormal, but I need things to make sense。 I'm 72。 Sometimes, I need things spelled out more clearly, so that they make sense。 The problem I had happened early on, and it cast a shadow on the rest of the story, for me。 。。。more

For me this book was just middling。 Very readable because Ward is a smooth and experienced writer。 But I didn’t buy into it emotionally。 Told mostly from Lydia’s point of view, it’s mostly a mystery about her work with wolves, her coworkers and what is really going on with the hotel and poisoned wolves。 A drifter/handyman is her love interest。 It is not stand alone。 Random chapters with Xhex and Matthew would be completely confusing if you didn’t have some BDB background reading some。 I have rea For me this book was just middling。 Very readable because Ward is a smooth and experienced writer。 But I didn’t buy into it emotionally。 Told mostly from Lydia’s point of view, it’s mostly a mystery about her work with wolves, her coworkers and what is really going on with the hotel and poisoned wolves。 A drifter/handyman is her love interest。 It is not stand alone。 Random chapters with Xhex and Matthew would be completely confusing if you didn’t have some BDB background reading some。 I have read most of those and it was still hard to get。 Again, for me, there was no spark and no excitement about this story。 I’m not even really sure what the stakes were。 There was a twist that mostly took me by surprise, but I don’t feel invested for book two。 Just me, though。 Other BDB fans might be a lot happier with it。 。。。more

As a huge fan of JR Ward I had such high expectations for this book, unfortunately it did not deliver。 From an author I think is amazing, and who’s books I preorder at first opportunity, I was underwhelmed by this book。Plot was so very slow, character development was minimalist at best。 Yes it’s the first book in a new series, yes it’s new characters but honestly if JR Wards name wasn’t on the cover I would have thought it was written by someone else, as it was so far removed from her usual stel As a huge fan of JR Ward I had such high expectations for this book, unfortunately it did not deliver。 From an author I think is amazing, and who’s books I preorder at first opportunity, I was underwhelmed by this book。Plot was so very slow, character development was minimalist at best。 Yes it’s the first book in a new series, yes it’s new characters but honestly if JR Wards name wasn’t on the cover I would have thought it was written by someone else, as it was so far removed from her usual stellar writing。 It wasn’t good, it wasn’t bad, it was just average。 The only character I found interesting from the whole book was EastWind。 I will read the next book in this series and hope that the series improves。 。。。more

WoW! What a book! To say that it’s unputdownable is an understatement。 J。 R。 Ward has a way of spinning a story that captures mind, body and soul。 As the first in a brand new series, it is a brilliant start with a promise of more fun times to come。 We meet new characters and there is just enough mystery, clues to things to be revealed in the upcoming instalments that it grabs you hook, line and sinker。 And there is an unexpected twist that we don’t see coming。 Not really。 The story at times beco WoW! Interesting So, first book in the series so it’s a little slow going。 The characters build was great, Lydia and Daniel’s chemistry while not hot was more of a slow burn。 Xhex’s presence while small was still very important。 The cliffhanger, not a fan。

As I hope for Forever got me answers for Lydia (and her past), I’m hoping to get answers from Daniel and his past。 I loved how slow and sweet Lydia and Daniel’s relationship was。 And that the fact that it seems like Daniel fell in love with her first。 Ahh, I can’t wait to read more about this couple in Forever。”I want to be … your everything。”“You are。” And I finally got me some John Matthew content in this book, and Xhex of course。 While the content was quite limited, I still loved it and can’t wait what’s in store for them in Forever。 ”Please be safe, John Matthew signed。“Always。” I feel like this book played me (and literally fucked me in the head lol) and got me thinking that I knew what was going to to happen etc。 But it was all just a game lol。 If you read the book, then you know。 ”Reality is like a coin。 It has a front and a back, and you can only see one side at a time。” I’m still shocked after finishing it, and I’m sooooooo excited for Forever #2 (summer 2022)。 Side note: I actually listened to the audiobook, voiced by none other than Jim Frangione, and I had a great experince for being my first ever auidobook。 SPOILER WARNINGSPOILER WARNINGSPOILER WARNINGSPOILER WARNINGSPOILER WARNINGYou have been warned。 Sooooo where to begin?? I’m still shocked over the fact that Lydia was the wolven, not Daniel。 I really can’t believe it since I was so sure that it was him, and even the cover fooled me。 I such have seen the signes though, like that Lydia saved a wild wolf without getting hurt or the fact that her last name is wolf in finnish?? And that the fact that Daniel is sick and has cancer?? Are you F with me J。R。Ward?? Omg I cried like a baby towards the epilouge。 But I such have seen the signes here as well, the fact that Daniel kept on coughing all the time。 OMG I NEED THE SEQUEL ASAP!!And wtf is up with Thomas Eastwind?? Is he a vampire maybe?? I’m still not sure about C。P。Phalen but I think she’s gonna have a big part in the next book as she did in this one。 I loved the stalking/thriller vibe to it lol。 And that ending??WTF WAS THAT?? UGH I the cliffhangers lol。 What’s the cure? Is he gonna be vampire? Or a wolven??? Like a lot of Ward's books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world, there is always more than one story going on that will even connect in unexpected ways。 The main heroes of our story are Lydia and Daniel。 Lydia's main goal and her job is to protect wolves in their natural habitat。 But with a hotel being built right smack in the middle and wolves dying because they are being poisoned, she is having a hard time doing her job。 So she takes things into her own hands。 The Wolf Study Project may be falling apart the more she looks into helping the wolves, but she won't stop until she has answers。 No matter the cost and no matter what she might find。 She won't be frightened off。 Then there is Daniel。 A drifter who winds up looking for a job at Lydia's job as a gatekeeper。 Daniel is the definition of mysterious。 There is too many unknowns about him。 Lydia and Daniel end up working together when they discover some leads about who is hurting the wolves。 Their journey together leads to the most unexpected places and of course romance between the two。 Meanwhile, the other part of this story Xhex。 A beloved character in the BDB world and she is having a rough time。 Nightmares she thought she finally put behind her have remerged and they are getting worse as each night passes。 And when V gives her one word: wolven, everything changes。 I will say it took me a little bit to get into this story。 I mostly wanted to get to Xhex's part of the story! But you can't help that when you see familiar characters。 But I will say by the time you hit near the end of the story there are so many unexpected twists that I just didn't see coming。 And I definitely want to know more。 This felt like a beginning and with that end of the story, I definitely can't wait for book two! 。。。more
