Summary

From the bestselling author of The House Guest comes a chilling story set deep in the woods…

With his marriage over and his career in freefall, journalist Tom decides to reconnect with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Frankie。 Desperate to spend precious time together now that they live an ocean apart, he brings her to Hollow Falls, a cabin resort deep in the woods of Maine。

From the outset there’s something a little eerie about the place—strange whispers in the trees, windchimes echoing through the forest—but when Tom meets true-crime podcasters David and Connie, he receives a chilling warning。 Hollow Falls has a gruesome history: twenty years ago this week, a double slaying shut down the resort。 The crime was never solved, and now the woods are overrun with murder-obsessed tourists looking to mark the grim anniversary。

It’s clear that there’s something deeply disturbing going on at Hollow Falls。 And as Tom’s dream trip turns into a nightmare, he and Frankie are faced with a choice: uncover the truth, or get out while they still can。

Really fab book as all Mark Edwards books are! gripping plot, well thought out characters and a storyline that meant I couldn’t put it down。 All we need next is a movie!

I always enjoy psychological thrillers by Mark Edwards。 The story takes place in a campground in the woods。 It has just the right amount of creepiness not only in the setting but with some of the characters。 Reminded me of Stephen King novels。 It's a fast pace book and definitely a page turner! Absolutely did not expect to like this psychological thriller。 The storyline seems simple yet layers of deception to it。 After reading the epilogue, I am expecting some kind of sequel! // KU

Ooo this was good。Some authors write to build an exciting scene say at 50% but Mark has sneaked in a tension session before then and that scene is written so well。 So gripping。 It happens again a little bit later on too。 Both build up to a "gasp out loud" moment。 Great!I enjoyed the relationship between divorced Tom and his 14 year old daughter Frankie。 Trying to bond on a holiday near the woods that has a mystery surrounding it。 The atmosphere of those woods give you the creeps so the writing i Ooo this was good。Some authors write to build an exciting scene say at 50% but Mark has sneaked in a tension session before then and that scene is written so well。 So gripping。 It happens again a little bit later on too。 Both build up to a "gasp out loud" moment。 Great!I enjoyed the relationship between divorced Tom and his 14 year old daughter Frankie。 Trying to bond on a holiday near the woods that has a mystery surrounding it。 The atmosphere of those woods give you the creeps so the writing is doing it's job。 Tom meets David and Connie and their son Ryan and they seem to make a new friendship with trying to sol e the mystery from 20 years ago。Written from Tom's perspective in some chapters and from the author in others it certainly strings you along。 The ending is quite good as it makes you think how it could carry on。 Clever 。。。more

Reminiscent of Stephen KingReally entertaining story about crazy people at a camp/resort in the Maine woods。 Edwards does a pretty good job of keeping several possibilities open as far as who the bad guy/s are。 A Twenty year old murder is at the heart of the story and even the semi normal characters are strange。 This would have made a great summer scare movie if anyone was still making them。 Read it for fun, or listen to it like I did。 The reader is pretty good。 he has to be to handle British ac Reminiscent of Stephen KingReally entertaining story about crazy people at a camp/resort in the Maine woods。 Edwards does a pretty good job of keeping several possibilities open as far as who the bad guy/s are。 A Twenty year old murder is at the heart of the story and even the semi normal characters are strange。 This would have made a great summer scare movie if anyone was still making them。 Read it for fun, or listen to it like I did。 The reader is pretty good。 he has to be to handle British accents, New York accents, Maine accents and even California。 Fun book。 Creepy though。 。。。more

I will state the positive first: Good premise and well written。 The author seems intent to make the characters engage in all types pf predictable and stereotypical horror movie behavior。 Blindly running into the woods and stumbling over roots while being chased by bad guys。 Flashlight/phone dying and the worst possible times。 Knowing they are in extreme danger yet delaying leaving while he takes care of one more unimportant (compared to their lives) thing while leaving the daughter alone。 I lost I will state the positive first: Good premise and well written。 The author seems intent to make the characters engage in all types pf predictable and stereotypical horror movie behavior。 Blindly running into the woods and stumbling over roots while being chased by bad guys。 Flashlight/phone dying and the worst possible times。 Knowing they are in extreme danger yet delaying leaving while he takes care of one more unimportant (compared to their lives) thing while leaving the daughter alone。 I lost count of how many times the father told the daughter to "stay locked in the cabin" while he went elsewhere。 The ending was predictable and not at all satisfying。 Do we expect a sequel or are we to wonder if/when the crazy girl is going to appear to kill the good girl? 。。。more

Another great book by Mark Edwards。 His books are always amazing from start to finish and this one was such a good book。 The characters are described just right along with the storyline。 It’s not too graphic, just right。 This author is absolutely one of the best mystery writers。 Always well written with details, it’s just so good。 You won’t regret reading his books if you love a whodunnit with twists and turns。

This was good but not the best by Mark Edwards。 It was a quick read。 I liked the setting, cabin-in-the-wood and such but I wasn’t drawn in the mystery, it wasn’t exciting or creepy!

3。5 Stars rounded up for entertainment valueI love Mark Edwards's books - always a good solid mystery/thriller with 'normal' & engaging characters。Good pacing, liked the relationship between Father/Daughter on holiday, plenty of little scares and creepy elements。 An old mystery to be uncovered with a new twist。。。good stuff。An auto-buy author for me。 3。5 Stars rounded up for entertainment valueI love Mark Edwards's books - always a good solid mystery/thriller with 'normal' & engaging characters。Good pacing, liked the relationship between Father/Daughter on holiday, plenty of little scares and creepy elements。 An old mystery to be uncovered with a new twist。。。good stuff。An auto-buy author for me。 。。。more

Once again Mark has come up with a spooky thriller! Set in Maine, USA, he creates the dark atmosphere from an ordinary place that has become synonymous with his books。 He sets the scenes and you can feel the claustrophobia as the atmosphere thickens。 As usual, brilliantly written。

Steve Descovich

Surprisingly goodDid not expect much but the story wss well plotted and the bad characters were pure evil。 I hope the sequel is just as goid。

I’m a bit bummed with The Hollows by Mark Edwards。 It was going for this paranormal type feel and, for me, it fell short。 The first 2/3 of the story is where I struggled。 It’s like nothing really happened until that last third of the book。 Which most books these days start with some action and end with some action while the middle is a bit boring。 Now the narration was disappointing。 The main character is from the UK but did not have an accent。 The daughter had the worst voice ever though。 It wa I’m a bit bummed with The Hollows by Mark Edwards。 It was going for this paranormal type feel and, for me, it fell short。 The first 2/3 of the story is where I struggled。 It’s like nothing really happened until that last third of the book。 Which most books these days start with some action and end with some action while the middle is a bit boring。 Now the narration was disappointing。 The main character is from the UK but did not have an accent。 The daughter had the worst voice ever though。 It was this typical male New York accent。 So all in all, this one was a fail, not one that I could recommend。Thank you Brilliance Publishing for the complimentary copy of this audiobook with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion。 I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that。。。 my opinions。Check out my Blog: Next Book ReviewCheck out my Facebook Page: Next Book Review Facebook 。。。more

Another good book from Mark! I enjoyed this story。 It's a shame it wasnt based in UK, guess he's trying to appeal to the US market lol。It was well written, and great characters again, lovely the few links to his other books, like the name of the piebald and mention of Lucy etc。I did guess the whodunnit but it was still very enjoyable and a good read。 Well done Mark! Mark Edwards is fast becoming one of my favourite authors。 The Hollows was so gripping I read it in a day。 A cracking great read。

⭐️⭐️⭐️ just about 3 stars。 I find Mark’s books to be hit and miss - every now and then there is a real corker that you can’t put down but then the ones between are average。I didn’t enjoy the writing style in this one, and couldn’t gel with any of the main characters。 The reveal at the end was underwhelming so it fell a bit flat for me。If you are wanting to read a good Mark Edwards book, choose Follow You Home。

Mark Edwards does it again, gripping and twisty as always this is an unusual and frightening。 Reminiscent of the six stories series by Matt Wesolowski this story of a father on holiday trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter in an eerie location in America where once a terrible murder took place which has left ripples of horror in the beautiful woods and the nearby run down small town。 Taut and tense and a great beach read。

Wow, this was really, really bad。The whole plot makes very little sense and it is not scary in the slightest 🤦🏻‍♂️。 Also, what teenager would be so chill with no internet connection for 2 weeks nowadays, come on。Oh, and Mark… people don't even know about whatsapp in the US。 Here in Brazil we use it as much as there in the UK, but not there。 I have many friends in the US and have tried getting them on the app bc it really is great but nope, they don't want to。 So… to have your teenager character Wow, this was really, really bad。The whole plot makes very little sense and it is not scary in the slightest 🤦🏻‍♂️。 Also, what teenager would be so chill with no internet connection for 2 weeks nowadays, come on。Oh, and Mark… people don't even know about whatsapp in the US。 Here in Brazil we use it as much as there in the UK, but not there。 I have many friends in the US and have tried getting them on the app bc it really is great but nope, they don't want to。 So… to have your teenager character receiving dozens of messages from her whatsapp groups when she's been living in the US for the past 3 years?
