Summary

5 Minutes

When a charming polar bear cub climbs into bed one night, she asks her Mama a very important question--one that little "human cubs" often wonder about, too: "Where did I come from?"

As Mama bear tucks her youngest cub under the quilts, she gently, tenderly, and reassuringly communicates the message loving parents everywhere (bears and non-bears alike) want their little ones to hear: "We wanted you very, very much, and we are so very glad because--God gave us you。"

Perfect for bedtime, naptime, storytime or anytime, God Gave Us You provides a valuable opportunity to build children's self-esteem every day and assure each one that he or she truly is a welcomed, precious, and treasured gift from the Lord。

Cute story for the little kids。 It is a little oversimplified and definitely only works if your family is “mom, dad, baby。” I wonder if this author has created any books for families that differ from this or for kids who are adopted?

Read this story to my son in the womb and after birth。 I love the story so much I remembered all the lines。 So now I recite the book at night as part of his sleep routine。

Parent Perspective (Volunteer, 34): This is a great bedtime story and it fosters love, security, and comfort。 The book has simple text and is repetitive in its messaging, but it lets kids know they are important from the very beginning。 See the full review。 Parent Perspective (Volunteer, 34): This is a great bedtime story and it fosters love, security, and comfort。 The book has simple text and is repetitive in its messaging, but it lets kids know they are important from the very beginning。 See the full review。 。。。more

Another faith-based book given to Lily by relatives。Another one that I felt ambivalent about。I read through it a couple of times and it seems especially forced in how hard it works to skirt the very edge of mentioning how babies are made。 I don't mind teaching my daughter she came from God in a spiritual sense, but this book seems to be saying that "God gave us you" in a physical sense, and very self-consciously not explaining too much about that。My husband put it most succinctly: "It's a book a Another faith-based book given to Lily by relatives。Another one that I felt ambivalent about。I read through it a couple of times and it seems especially forced in how hard it works to skirt the very edge of mentioning how babies are made。 I don't mind teaching my daughter she came from God in a spiritual sense, but this book seems to be saying that "God gave us you" in a physical sense, and very self-consciously not explaining too much about that。My husband put it most succinctly: "It's a book about where babies come from that doesn't actually say anything about where babies come from。"It's all like "You came from God。。。 but oh yeah, you were growing inside of me and getting bigger and bigger and the doctor listened to your heartbeat and then I felt special signals that it was time for you to come out!"A vagina (not to mention a womb) is a terrifying, terrifying thing。Then there's, "。。。most of all, I prayed that someday you would love God。""I love God," Little Cub said proudly。"I know," said Mama。 "I do too。"Because loving God is something you should be proud of, or something? By contrast, should you feel ashamed if you don't love God? Grow up loving God, kids。。。 or else。。。 。。。more

Love this for the "Where did I come from? What was it like when I was born?" aspect。 But it would be nice to acknowledge that some babies are chosen by their families and some are born naturally。 There isn't one "right" way to have a family。 Love this for the "Where did I come from? This book is a sweet story of a mama bear telling her cub how she came to be with her mama and papa。 It's almost too sweet, really。 It's also probably not the right book for children of single parents or adoptive parents。 My little one loved it, though。 This book is a sweet story of a mama bear telling her cub how she came to be with her mama and papa。 It's almost too sweet, really。 It's also probably not the right book for children of single parents or adoptive parents。 My little one loved it, though。 。。。more

This was such an adorable book to read, especially if it was a night time read or even to answer your children’s questions of where they came from。 Obviously, it is leaned toward one way on the religion aspect, but if you do believe in a God, I would highly recommend this book to any parent。

A sweet little book

I like the message of the story, I just wish that it wasn't expressed that it was a girl cub instead of just 'baby bear' so that it could be for a boy or girl。 I like the message of the story, I just wish that it wasn't expressed that it was a girl cub instead of just 'baby bear' so that it could be for a boy or girl。 。。。more

This book was a gift for baby girl, and is actually her first book <3 I can't wait to read it to her when she is born。 。 。 Okay, maybe I have to wait until she is a little older than newborn, but still ;) This book has beautiful illustrations and a nice message for children emphasizing how children are God's gifts to their parents。 Note: the polar bear cub in the book is a girl - so definitely a slam dunk book for girls, but the book isn't overtly girly。 It would be fine for boys too! This is a beautifully written children’s book on the blessing of God’s timing and love to put children in our lives。 I connected with it on so many levels。 I will cherish this book for years to come and hopefully my son will too

This book is one of my daughter's favorites and we read it to her regularly before bed。 In a world that is so hostile toward children it is good to remind them that children are a gift。 God created them, has a plan for them, and they are loved。 The current reading challenge I'm taking calls for an ECPA best seller。。。 this children's book is one of the few books on that list that is not a hot pile of heretical garbage :) This book is one of my daughter's favorites and we read it to her regularly before bed。 In a world that is so hostile toward children it is good to remind them that children are a gift。 God created them, has a plan for them, and they are loved。 The current reading challenge I'm taking calls for an ECPA best seller。。。 this children's book is one of the few books on that list that is not a hot pile of heretical garbage :) 。。。more

My 13 month old son got this book from his Da for christmas, and we read it before bed the other night。 He got all comfy and looked up at me with sleepy eyes as I read this book to him。 The message in it is super sweet and I think this will have to be a 'keep around the house' sort of book。 It takes me back to when God Gave Us Him。 My 13 month old son got this book from his Da for christmas, and we read it before bed the other night。 He got all comfy and looked up at me with sleepy eyes as I read this book to him。 The message in it is super sweet and I think this will have to be a 'keep around the house' sort of book。 It takes me back to when God Gave Us Him。 。。。more

God gave us you by Lisa Bergren Book report by Jacob FortierGod gave us you is a story about how a baby polar bear and how the he was obtained。Right before bed, his mom tucked him in and the cub asked how he was obtained, and the mama bear told him the story about it。The mama bear tells him day by day how exited she was for him to come。I do not recommend this book because the story just talks about how he was acquired。

Cute book。 I like the illustrations。 I was horrified to see the word "borned" when the cub asks its mother about it's birth and the mother does not correct his English。 May be that's the point but I felt the author did not make attempt to explain in away so it probably was an oversight of the author! This is one of those baby books that get me all teared up and emotional。 I don’t think that’s an unusual reaction either。 As a mom (or dad) reads this story to their child they can’t help but relive their own journey to parenthood。 You can’t help but be touched with the sweet, and very familiar, scenario of a child asking where she came from。 Mama Bear goes over all the stage: from wanting, celebrating, waiting, preparing, growing, delivering, etc。 After each step in the journey, Little Cub asks This is one of those baby books that get me all teared up and emotional。 I don’t think that’s an unusual reaction either。 As a mom (or dad) reads this story to their child they can’t help but relive their own journey to parenthood。 You can’t help but be touched with the sweet, and very familiar, scenario of a child asking where she came from。 Mama Bear goes over all the stage: from wanting, celebrating, waiting, preparing, growing, delivering, etc。 After each step in the journey, Little Cub asks questions and Mama explains, ending with the consoling phrase, “Because God gave us you”。 The repeated phrase wraps the reader in loving comfort and wonder。 Each time I read this book, I find something new I like。 Writing this review had me going back through admiring the illustrations。 Laura J。 Bryant does a beautiful job。 I especially like the variety of arctic animals portrayed。 This book does a marvelous job of expressing a parent’s gratitude for the gift of having their child。 I love sharing this story with my precious baby。 All the warm and fuzzy feelings! 。。。more

When a baby polar bear asks his mother where he came from, she tells him that God gave him to her。 She tells him the story of how he came into the world as he falls asleep。 This is a great bedtime story for religious families that will make children feel special and loved。

Genre: Religious Picture BookAwards: NoneAudience: Ages 3-7A。 This book is a religious picture book because it is about how God graced the parents with a baby。 They are telling the story to the child, giving thanks to God all the way long。B。 Lines are an important visual element for this story。 They show straight across lines when water is involved, diagonal lines, and horizontal lines。 They are not emphasized, but if you look closely, they create an important piece for the story。C。 I would read Genre: Religious Picture BookAwards: NoneAudience: Ages 3-7A。 This book is a religious picture book because it is about how God graced the parents with a baby。 They are telling the story to the child, giving thanks to God all the way long。B。 Lines are an important visual element for this story。 They show straight across lines when water is involved, diagonal lines, and horizontal lines。 They are not emphasized, but if you look closely, they create an important piece for the story。C。 I would read this with both a group of children and a single child。 Reading this in both settings would be beneficial, especially in a church setting。 It teaches children what God has done for them because He loves them so much。D。 State whether or not the baby came quick!
