As a child of the 80s， I am surprised I didn’t read this book back then。 In my 50th year， I find I can still relate to these teens， outsiders to all。 The story is timeless really。 I wonder what other gems I’ve missed out on。

I saw this book often in my life but never grabbed a copy to read。 There was a movie that I often glanced at on video store shelves but never watched it。 Then an audio version became available through our local library so I checked it out。 When it was first released I was a young wife and new mom。 I had no time to read because I also worked and my husband honestly thought housework， food prep and child care were also my job。 This was a great read。 I felt so bad when a character died that I got a I saw this book often in my life but never grabbed a copy to read。 There was a movie that I often glanced at on video store shelves but never watched it。 Then an audio version became available through our local library so I checked it out。 When it was first released I was a young wife and new mom。 I had no time to read because I also worked and my husband honestly thought housework， food prep and child care were also my job。 This was a great read。 I felt so bad when a character died that I got a bit teary eyed。 The author has an intro and tells the reader why she wrote the book and why she thinks it is still popular。 Teens always seem to divide into cliques and there’s always a group of jocks and one of nerds。 Things never really change。 。。。more
