Summary

A brilliant and empowering collection of final reflections and words of wisdom from venerable civil rights champion, the late Congressman John Lewis at the end of his remarkable life。

Congressman John Lewis was a paragon of the Civil Rights Movement and political leadership for decades。 A hero we won’t soon forget, Lewis was a beacon of hope and a model of humility whose invocation to “good trouble” continues to inspire millions across our nation。 In his last months on earth, even while battling cancer, he dedicated time to share his memories, beliefs, and advice—exclusively immortalized in these pages—as a message to the generations to come。

Organized by topic ranging from justice, courage, faith, mentorship, and forgiveness to the protests and the pandemic, and many more besides, Carry On collects the late Congressman’s thoughts for readers to draw on whenever they are in need of guidance。 John Lewis had great confidence in our future, even as he died in the midst of one of our country’s most challenging years to date。 With this book, he performs that crucial passing of the baton, empowering us to live up to the legacy he has left us with his perseverance, dedication, profound insight, and unwavering ability to see the good in life。

Change。 Hope。 Love。This was a very quick, but very insightful read。 I thought it would be more like a memoir, instead, it is more just his thoughts on different topics, for example "On Love", "On Patience", "On Books"。 I actually really enjoyed that because he mentioned different events throughout the book, and there's a timeline at the end, but it wasn't so much a retelling, rather just his wisdom for the next generation, as the book entails。I highly recommend this read, it was very quick, but Change。 Hope。 Love。This was a very quick, but very insightful read。 I thought it would be more like a memoir, instead, it is more just his thoughts on different topics, for example "On Love", "On Patience", "On Books"。 I actually really enjoyed that because he mentioned different events throughout the book, and there's a timeline at the end, but it wasn't so much a retelling, rather just his wisdom for the next generation, as the book entails。I highly recommend this read, it was very quick, but the more you think about what he's written, the more amazing this book becomes。 If you liked Tuesdays with Morrie, I would recommend even more。 It had the same feel to it, although fairly different lessons。Five stars for sure! 。。。more

It was such a treat to read these "reflections and words of wisdom" from John Lewis。Carry On: Reflections for a New Generation is a beautiful book, and one that I think will be accessible for a wide range of ages (maybe middle grade-on?)。 It reminded me a bit of What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey, though with shorter essays/designed to accommodate a younger audience。 I'd love to insert about half a dozen quotations here, but I don't want to ruin a single line for you。 This is a book I'm grate It was such a treat to read these "reflections and words of wisdom" from John Lewis。Carry On: Reflections for a New Generation is a beautiful book, and one that I think will be accessible for a wide range of ages (maybe middle grade-on?)。 It reminded me a bit of What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey, though with shorter essays/designed to accommodate a younger audience。 I'd love to insert about half a dozen quotations here, but I don't want to ruin a single line for you。 This is a book I'm grateful exists, and one I hope you'll savor too。Thanks so much to Grand Central Publishing for a free copy of this book for review。 。。。more

Disclosure: I would like to thank Grand Central Publishing for providing me with this book as a Goodreads Giveaway。 This edition is an ARC and due for release on July 13, 2021。Written by Lewis shortly before his death, this beautiful meditation is full of essays and anecdotes about Lewis’ life and beliefs。 This book serves as a sort of mentorship and inspiration for the generations he has handed the baton to, those of us willing to get into “good trouble。”

A super accessible book for young people or anyone at the beginning of their political/moral awakening。 Provides a clear run through on his thoughts about various topics, and also a good introduction to his life and work。
