Summary

He’s in Deep Haven to relax。

Detective Daniel “Boone” Buckam is more than burned out。 After fourteen stellar years on the job, one bad judgment call—and, fine, a whole lot of cynicism—has forced him into a mandatory vacation。 If he can get his head on straight, there’s a job as Police Chief waiting for him back in his Minneapolis suburb。

But then he meets Vivien。

Actress Vivien Calhoun isn’t really a drama queen。 Sure, she gets swept up in the emotions of life—but please, she’s an actress。 Or, um, was until a stalker made her flee the bright lights of Broadway。 Now, she’s passionate about directing her local theater production。 But when she accidentally ropes an uptight police detective on vacation into her cast, she can’t help but wonder if he might be the leading man she’s always longed for。

Of course, she’s in trouble。

Boone can’t help but like Vivien。 He might even have a type—vivacious and bubbly, with a penchant for attracting danger。 He can smell trouble even if she can’t, and is pretty sure her stalker has hunted her all the way to Deep Haven。 He’ll have to stay by her side—even if it means being in her silly play—to keep her safe。 But Vivien is more than he expected as she helps him discover a part of him he’s locked away…the part that said he could never love again。

So much for relaxing。

It’s summertime in Deep Haven, and the fun is heating up in this laugh-out-loud, charming story。

Rachel Russell just nails it。 Both here in Then Came You and her debut, Still The One。 What a wonderful return to Deep Haven and the wonderful characters there。 Boone - I've been looking forward to his story for a long while, and couldn't have been happier with the way Rachel portrayed him。 And Vivian LOL - That girl is hilarious and has such depth (despite her outwardly bubbly impression)。 Her backstory regarding her childhood just destroyed me。 This story has such heart, a mystery that kept me Rachel Russell just nails it。 Both here in Then Came You and her debut, Still The One。 What a wonderful return to Deep Haven and the wonderful characters there。 Boone - I've been looking forward to his story for a long while, and couldn't have been happier with the way Rachel portrayed him。 And Vivian LOL - That girl is hilarious and has such depth (despite her outwardly bubbly impression)。 Her backstory regarding her childhood just destroyed me。 This story has such heart, a mystery that kept me intrigued and a wonderful gospel message。 A side note - I admire the way this author gives her readers the happy ending we all crave, without every little thing being wrapped up perfectly。 Excellent addition to this fun series! I am looking forward to more from this author。 。。。more

This book has a bit more of a suspense vibe than the others in the series, and I liked that。 Of course, I would have liked to dive a bit deeper into Vivie’s history and demons, but I was having so much fun getting to know the real Boone that it didn’t bother me as much as it could have。Lots of fun and an excellent, relatable spiritual lesson for this couple。 Five weeks in Deep Haven? Yes, that is more than long enough to fall in love with the town and find the perfect match。 I can hardly wait fo This book has a bit more of a suspense vibe than the others in the series, and I liked that。 Of course, I would have liked to dive a bit deeper into Vivie’s history and demons, but I was having so much fun getting to know the real Boone that it didn’t bother me as much as it could have。Lots of fun and an excellent, relatable spiritual lesson for this couple。 Five weeks in Deep Haven? Then Came Youby Rachel D。 Russell, Susan May WarrenBook 4 in the Deep Haven CollectionRating: 4。5/5Release Date: July 6, 2021Even though I have a large stack of books I need to review, I could not pass up the chance to read what came next in Deep Haven。 I have not read the PJ Sugar series yet (although I just purchased the set on sale) so I will now need to go back and read them to discover more about Boone, but I did not think it was necessary to have read that series to understand Boone's past Then Came Youby Rachel D。 Russell, Susan May WarrenBook 4 in the Deep Haven CollectionRating: 4。5/5Release Date: July 6, 2021Even though I have a large stack of books I need to review, I could not pass up the chance to read what came next in Deep Haven。 I have not read the PJ Sugar series yet (although I just purchased the set on sale) so I will now need to go back and read them to discover more about Boone, but I did not think it was necessary to have read that series to understand Boone's past。 The author does a great job of giving you his background and exploring his hurt and insecurities。From the beginning of the book, the author draws you in and hooks the reader with her first line:"Vivien Calhoun needed a man within the next five minutes。"Who doesn't need to read more to find out why? I couldn't stop reading lol。 When Vivien enlists Boone's help and red mustang to rescue from her devious half-sister, she brings some life and zest back into Boone's life as he starts his mandatory leave in Deep Haven to deal with his anger issues away from the police force。 As a detective who is on the short list for the next chief, he is willing to do whatever his chief says to make sure he solidifies his chances。 Boone doesn't know who this vivacious lady is but when he observes the way her half-sister speaks to her, he decides to play along。 He is in Deep Haven to relax, talk to a therapist and read the book his chief gave him。 He does not need any distractions。 After having his heart broken before, he fills his days with work and now, on vacation, doesn't quite know what to do with himself。 Vivien is only too willing to enlist his help with her summer theater production and eventually even casts Boone as the lead。 Vivien, a former broadway star, is back in Deep Haven to prove she's not a failure and encourage the theatrical aspirations of her fellow townsfolk。 When Vivien's past seems to have followed her to Deep Haven, can Boone help her solve the mystery and keep her safe? Will Boone's dreams of making his father proud conflict with his dreams of having a life with Vivien?I loved how the author made Vivien and Boone seem so different when in reality, they were very similar。 I loved how the small town aspect came into play since everyone thought they were together from that parade onwards。 Even though Boone was leaving, he began to find that still, small voice whispering wisdom to him。 He felt he had found a place where he could breathe - where he could be himself。"Everything about you—the real you, goofy and sexy and flirty and fun, all of it—I like who you are。” And he liked who he was when he was with her。"He could not get her out of his head (and heart?)。"He shook his head。 Yep, he definitely had a type。 Vivien。 Bold and courageous and so full of life。 She was adventure and zeal and added a brightness to his day。 She turned a plain, ordinary day into something extraordinary。"I highly recommend if you enjoy Christian romance with humor, heart and some mystery。My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book。 All opinions expressed here are entirely my own。 No positive review was expected and no compensation received。 。。。more

I first met and loved Boone when I’ve met him in the PJ Sugar series。 I wanted him to get the girl, but also didn’t want him to get the girl… and was excited to see he is getting his own story。Vivien comes across very dramatic (sometimes I did wonder if people like this really exists 😊), but only Boone sees what is really behind all the drama。 I enjoyed seeing them together, they had great chemistry together and enjoyed the lessons learned by both, but Boone I felt really had to let go of others I first met and loved Boone when I’ve met him in the PJ Sugar series。 I wanted him to get the girl, but also didn’t want him to get the girl… and was excited to see he is getting his own story。Vivien comes across very dramatic (sometimes I did wonder if people like this really exists 😊), but only Boone sees what is really behind all the drama。 I enjoyed seeing them together, they had great chemistry together and enjoyed the lessons learned by both, but Boone I felt really had to let go of others’ expectations of him。 Boone sort of grounded Viv and Viv pushed Boone past is boundaries to being kind of a more fun version of himself。“Grace isn't just for other people。 Maybe you didn't get that memo。”There was also an element of danger, which ended up going a totally different direction than what I thought and expected will happen。I again enjoyed meeting up with some of my favourite Deep Haven regulars and looking forward to the next book which intrigued me with the spoiler at the end of Then Came You and will catch me up with what happened to Colleen Decker since we've met her in You Don't Know Me*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher。 All opinions expressed are my own。* 。。。more

Wow! This was SUCH a great story! I absolutely adored getting to know Boone! I hadn't read any of the books Boone had been in with PJ, but I didn't feel like I had missed too much getting to know him now in this book。 I DO want to go read the PJ Sugar stories now, though! So, I love Vivien! I can understand why everyone falls under her spell。 She's has such a magnetic personality。 And the book starts off with her magnetism benefiting her greatly in a very awkward situation。The way she and Boone m Wow! From there, things go from fast to faster。 lol Boone is away from the Cities for a forced vacation。 It's easy to tell how he's struggling with the way his life has been going。 The way Vivien looks at him, you can also tell he's in fine form!I felt so terrible for Vivien。 There's mystery and suspense to this story because it seems someone is trying to ruin her life。 It seems like any time Viv gets a grasp on things going good, everything comes crashing down。There are definitely some amusing moments in the story。 Viv tries to play matchmaker at one point。 That was highly amusing as a reader。 To balance that out, there were some peeling back of the layers of what Vivien and Boone had each struggled with in their lives。Needless to say, this was a VERY satisfying story! Boone and Vivien are two wonderful characters and you can't beat visiting Deep Haven whenever given the chance!*I received the book for review。 This is my personal opinion。 。。。more

Then Came You has so much good going for it and it’s hard to boil it all down to write a review。 It’s funny, sweet, serious, and romantic。 Does it get any better? The characters are fabulous。 You’re rooting for them to realize their dreams。 Their dialogue is witty and realistic。 They go together and make each other better。 And, the romance between Boone and Vivien has a little steam without going too far。 It’s a clean read with a nice faith element included。 I think there are two major themes in Then Came You has so much good going for it and it’s hard to boil it all down to write a review。 It’s funny, sweet, serious, and romantic。 Does it get any better? Detective Daniel "Boone" Buckam and Actress Vivien Calhoun come together in a sweet and dicey love story worthy of a small town theater production。 Then Came You is full of joy and tears。 Boone travels to Deep Haven on a forced vacation that feels more like punishment than fun。 He's given strict orders from his Police Chief to get his head on straight, get his health under control, and read the book with which he's sent him to the shores of Lake Superior。 And then he's broadsided by one very pre Detective Daniel "Boone" Buckam and Actress Vivien Calhoun come together in a sweet and dicey love story worthy of a small town theater production。 Then Came You is full of joy and tears。 Boone travels to Deep Haven on a forced vacation that feels more like punishment than fun。 He's given strict orders from his Police Chief to get his head on straight, get his health under control, and read the book with which he's sent him to the shores of Lake Superior。 And then he's broadsided by one very pretty, known for her theatrical enthusiasm, woman, Vivie Calhoun, and maybe this vacation isn't so bad after all。 But how can he relax when his detective bells are warning him Viv is in trouble? Viv dodges a stalker, who seems to have followed her to small town Minnesota all the way from the Big Apple, as she's trying to put on a local theater production of Then Came You。 How is she supposed to prove to the town and the world she is not a failure when everything keeps falling apart? There are a few things in this story that gave me pause。 If I was in Vivien's shoes I'm not sure I would have dismissed some actions of different characters as easily as she does。 I don't want to include any spoilers so I'll just say I didn't swoon as much with this pair as I have with some others。 I do think Rachel D。 Russell does a great job of telling this fun story。 I am so thankful she has shared her talent with us!Thank you Sunrise Publishing for the opportunity to review this book。 I am definitely a Deep Haven fan! 。。。more

'Every Sunday morning, she sat in the same pew, singing the same hymns, wondering if she could ever trust God enough to let down her guard。'Here we go back to Deep Haven again, that most wonderful small town in Minnesota created by Susan May Warren years ago and the setting for seven books by her。 How I love that place and it's inhabitants。 Now, she and Rachel D。 Russell bring us book four in the new Deep Haven Collection。 And it is a great offering, too!Detective Boone Buckam comes to Deep Have 'Every Sunday morning, she sat in the same pew, singing the same hymns, wondering if she could ever trust God enough to let down her guard。'Here we go back to Deep Haven again, that most wonderful small town in Minnesota created by Susan May Warren years ago and the setting for seven books by her。 How I love that place and it's inhabitants。 Now, she and Rachel D。 Russell bring us book four in the new Deep Haven Collection。 And it is a great offering, too!Detective Boone Buckam comes to Deep Haven to relax-well, more like ordered to relax by his boss。 If he wants a shot at the police chief job back in Kellogg, he has to learn some things。 Like how to relax, control his anger and get his blood pressure down。 But Boone didn't count on Vivien Calhoun, who nabs him his first day in town to help her get away from someone she doesn't want to see。 From the moment he lays eyes on her, she has pulled him into her drama and Boone kinda likes it。 She's just so irrepressible and precious。 And。。。it seems as if she has a stalker。 Boone can't turn off the detective in him, despite being in Deep Haven to relax, and is determined to discover who is tormenting Vivien。 'I've learned you have to embrace the life you have, not the one you expected you'd have--or the one others expected you to have。'Boone has a lot of things to think about in this story and not just Vivien and his growing feelings for her。 Will he let others' expectations of him determine the course of his life or is he willing to step out in faith for what HE wants to do with his life? Even if it shakes him to the core。 I loved every single minute of this story。 Russell gives us a hero that is struggling with inner turmoil and wants desperately to do what's always been expected of him。 But you know what? God just may have something else in mind for Boone。 I loved Vivien, but to me, this is Boone's story front and center。 Russell has crafted a great hero and I just loved him and his heart。 This is my favorite of the Deep Haven Collection so far。 And it was so great to be back there and see old friends again。 There are a few fictional places I'd love to visit or live and Deep Haven in right up there at the top。 Warren and Russell have created a winner here and one for the keeper shelf! Well done!My thanks to Sunrise Publishing for a copy of this book。 I was not expected to leave a positive review。 The opinion here is completely my own。 。。。more

What a fantastic story! Once I started I could not stop。 Having not met Boone before this book was concerning me however there was no need to worry。 I fell in love with him from the beginning when he resuced Vivian from Sabrina。 This story spoke truth to the place in all of us where we believe that we must "act a certain way" in order for others to love and accept us。 This truth being that God sees us, the real us, and loves us anyway。 With his perfect redeeming love that drives away all fear。 R What a fantastic story!
