Another edge of your seat thriller by Clare。 It’s about a plane on the way to Sydney that got taken over and the passengers were held hostage。 It’s written with chapters about the husbands (Adam) view point, the wife’s (Mina) and then the passengers on the flight。 It makes the story really fast paced as your always wanted to find out what the next chapter is about。 It will fill you with dread and anxiety if your going on a plane soon。 This is a fast paced, bumpy ride to Sydney with twists and tu Another edge of your seat thriller by Clare。 It’s about a plane on the way to Sydney that got taken over and the passengers were held hostage。 It’s written with chapters about the husbands (Adam) view point, the wife’s (Mina) and then the passengers on the flight。 It makes the story really fast paced as your always wanted to find out what the next chapter is about。 It will fill you with dread and anxiety if your going on a plane soon。 This is a fast paced, bumpy ride to Sydney with twists and turns along the way。 。。。more

From page one, I was so hooked! The twists and turns throughout the story and the braveness of some people。 WOW。 The ending was a complete shocker to me as well。 I did not see that coming。 You fall in love with Sophia the first time you meet her in the story。 I will tell you though, if you already have a fear of flying, I do not recommend you read this story。 I am ten times more scared to get on a plane now。。。but if you love thrillers, I do recommend you read this one。 It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat!#bookworm #bookaddict #bookreview #bookrecommendation #bookrecommendations #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #readersofinstagram #hostage #claremacintosh #thriller #crime #thrillerbooks #thrillerbooksaddict #bookreader #claremacintosh #booknerd #bookreviewer #currentlyreading #readingtime #readersofinsta #goodreads #goodreadschallenge2021 #bookshelf #booksbooksbooks #kindlereads #bibliophile #bookstagramcommunity @claremackwrites 。。。more

Rarely do I give a book this high of a review, but I loved this one from the beginning to the very last paragraph。 Seriously suspenseful and written beautifully。 The audiobook is great and story addictive。 You find yourself relating to the main characters and what they are facing。

Misschien dan even wachten met lezen ;) 。。。more

3。5。 This was a pretty good book that moved along at a good pace。 It was well-written and had a good story。 I did not care for the liberal bias and how it tried to cram the environmental view down our throats。 The ending at first seemed like it was just checking things off a list to take care of any loose ends or unfinished threads, but it did have a little twist。

It’s fine。 Flight attendant is threatened that her daughter will die unless she helps people get into the cockpit and do god knows what。 It’s a pretty standard thriller when I was hoping for some twisty nonsense (based on her previous books)。 But it just 100% goes the way any highjacked-airplane movie would go。 Didn’t really like or care about the characters though, so wasn’t invested。 Do it, don’t do it, I don’t care。 This book is too damn long。 Whatever ‘twists’ there are come on literally the It’s fine。 Flight attendant is threatened that her daughter will die unless she helps people get into the cockpit and do god knows what。 It’s a pretty standard thriller when I was hoping for some twisty nonsense (based on her previous books)。 But it just 100% goes the way any highjacked-airplane movie would go。 Didn’t really like or care about the characters though, so wasn’t invested。 Do it, don’t do it, I don’t care。 This book is too damn long。 Whatever ‘twists’ there are come on literally the last 5 pages, and are amusing at least。 Next! 。。。more

Or the one that matters to you most? What would you do?Meanwhile on land, Mina’s husband Adam is in a whole heap of trouble。 He doesn’t quite come across as the reliable type so knowing he’s supposed to be the one to keep their daughter Sophia safe doesn’t exactly fill one with confidence。Two characters in the spotlight, two strands of a story that immediately promise tension and let’s face it, the premise shows a lot of potential。 High up in the skies, in a metal box, nowhere to run to, no way of contacting anyone … stuff of nightmares。 And yet, as a whole, it just didn’t quite work for me。 It all started out extremely well but then it just went downhill for me。First of all, there are the characters。 I don’t even know why by Mina and Adam never managed to convince me。 I didn’t find them particularly likeable and while that’s not something that normally bothers me, in a situation like this where I’m supposed to root for them it feels rather important。 Some of the passengers on the flight are introduced to us and again, I had niggles there as well。 This flight is a huge deal。 There are celebrities and journalists on board。 Surely not every Tom, Dick and Harry could have afforded a ticket? But here we are and unfortunately I can’t say anything more about that because it would spoil an entire thread of the story。 Don’t even get me started on the ending because I may never stop。Suspending belief is all fine and dandy and I have no qualms with that if the book is entertaining me, but for me this storyline went completely above and beyond and not necessarily in a good way。 As the flight goes on, the tension builds up but at some point it seemed to come to a halt just where I thought it should have mattered the most。 There is a reason Mina is cabin crew and even that failed to have any kind of impact on me, which feels entirely wrong when you know what it is。 And Adam … ugh。 I somehow just ended up being annoyed with everyone and everything。I guess it’s rather obvious Hostage and I just didn’t get along。 Nobody is more surprised about this admission than I am because I normally love Clare Mackintosh’s books。 It is what it is。 Will it stop me from reading Clare’s next book? No, it will not。 And these thoughts of mine should not stop you from reading Hostage as I am very much in the minority! 。。。more

3。5/5 — I pre-ordered this book months ago & finally got to read it on publishing day。 I may have had too high of expectations lol, but I wasn’t obsessed。 It was an odd, yet creative storyline。 I just felt as though it was a mediocre thriller & there were lots of gaps/unanswered questions。 Still a great read, especially if you’re just dipping your toes in the thriller genre!

This was my first book from this author, but I can’t wait to read more from her。 The pacing in this book is perfect。 There is like non stop action throughout, and this will definitely have you flipping the pages to see what’s happening while simultaneously wanting to cover your eyes at what is unfolding。 This book is truly terrifying and nerve wracking and I mean that in the best way possible。 I def recommend checking this one out!

3。5 stars。 The first half was a two star read for me but the last half kicked it up a notch。SPOILERS。It took about 150 pages for things to get going, which is not what you expect when you pick up a thriller。 I ALMOST DNF’d it, but being that I find it almost impossible to DNF books guilt free, I pushed on and was ultimately glad I did because it did improve during the 2nd half。 I also did not care for the completely useless pointless vignettes that were peppered throughout the beginning, random 3。5 stars。 The first half was a two star read for me but the last half kicked it up a notch。SPOILERS。It took about 150 pages for things to get going, which is not what you expect when you pick up a thriller。 I ALMOST DNF’d it, but being that I find it almost impossible to DNF books guilt free, I pushed on and was ultimately glad I did because it did improve during the 2nd half。 I also did not care for the completely useless pointless vignettes that were peppered throughout the beginning, random passengers giving little tidbits from their completely irrelevant (to the story) lives。 Was just unnecessary padding in a book that already took way too long to get going。 Reminded me of Malibu Rising which I read earlier this month & also contained the same sort of random 2-page vignettes from characters you’d only hear from ONCE。 I couldn’t help but wonder why an editor wouldn’t have X’d these parts out with a giant red pen。 At only 300-something pages maybe they thought they needed more meat & were reluctant to strip the story of any more pages。 Who knows。The book took a turn around half way, totally revved up the excitement level on all ends。 On one end we followed Mina, a flight attendant who in the throes of marriage issues chooses to work an extra long never done before flight to Sydney。 On the other end, we follow her police officer husband Adam who’s presently dealing a gambling addiction that’s gotten out of control & resulted in loan sharks threatening him and his family。 Fighting to keep this all under wraps from his family he’s also struggling to engage with his adopted daughter with attachment disorder。 For the first half, I’d been annoyed with Sophia, thought she seemed like a brat, but she wound up being my favorite character。 I love a well written toddler/young child。 Precocious children are my absolute favorite, which Sophia very much was。So the booked dragged along for over a hundred pages, boooooring。 And then the first passenger dies, seemingly mysteriously。 And pretty quickly after that things get going。 Mina finds a picture of her daughter in his wallet, which was sort of weird and never actually explained。 He didn’t wind up being one of the “bad guys” so why he randomly had this pic in his wallet was a mystery, it apparently was smushed in there as if somebody had quickly pushed it in so I guess we’re meant to think someone else put it there? But the reasoning behind it is still cloudy。 Whatever it was, it clearly was meant to shroud things in mystery, propel the story forward, which it did。 Pretty soon after a letter to Mina followed basically saying for her to help assist somebody get into the cock pit or else her child would die, & she of course does so。 I read a few reviews saying that she belonged in jail! She didn’t do her job! She was so selfish! Which made me in turn feel selfish myself because there’s not even a question as to what I would do。 I have thought to myself many times over after watching some action movie or another with this save your family or save the world trope how I wouldn’t trade the lives of my loved ones for the entire world。 Like if it was save everyone else on the planet, or save my brother/etc, I’d be walking around the empty planet with my brother。 Not very selfless I know, but let’s just say I identified with Mina。 I was not one of those people who thought she deserved punishment for not doing her job correctly in the face of losing her only daughter。Anyway。 The 2nd half was much more enjoyable than the first。 The unnecessary POV’s weren’t bogging up the story, & there was plenty of action to keep me turning the pages。 Adam and Sophia were kept tied up in their cellar, hostages on their end, while Mina was a hostage on the plane on her end。 I liked the whole concept of random passengers throughout the plane being part of the hijacker’s crew, it made for a little extra mystery never knowing who was shady & who was just a regular ol’ passenger。 Also, the dynamics between the passengers was interesting to read about and of course brought to mind thoughts of the passengers on the planes on 9/11。 I think we all wonder how we would act, how we would feel, who we would contact and what we would we say。 So reading about the individuals interacting, their behavior, the conversations between them as they discussed what they should do was particularly compelling and the most believable part of the entire story。I liked the ending well enough。 I wouldn’t exactly call it “believable,” but in thrillers that’s not generally the thing authors seen to be going for。 It’s more about how much they can shock and surprise you。 And in this case I did see one part coming a mile away when I first read about Mina’s pilot training that she quit over a decade prior to present events。 The little twist/reveal in regards to why Mina dropped out of pilot school felt a little forced, but aside from that I didn’t guess the other twists! Especially the final one from Sophia’s POV! I thought that was a fun lil response to the first twist。 I used to get annoyed when I read people saying they’d guessed the endings to thrillers and I’d wonder what the f was wrong with me why I was so slow! But now that I’ve become more of a seasoned thriller reader and can guess some of the endings I realize I don’t actually want to guess them because it spoils everything! So I am not perfectly content to not guess and am always happy when I’m surprised!!!! Which in this case I was, I didn’t see the last little bit coming at ALL!One other negative thing was, I don’t like being preached at in my books, and this was preachy。 Climate change。 I got it。 I’d rather authors didn’t use their fictional books to clue in their readers on their very obvious views on certain subjects but I get why they do it。 Platform and all that。 It wasn’t overbearing, but I did roll my eyes a time or two。 It wasn’t my favorite but it wasn’t the worst by any means。 Enjoyable。 。。。more

When I bought this I had just finished reading Falling and was expecting it to be the same only set in the UK。Admittedly there’s no getting away from the similarities of a family held hostage if someone doesn’t help bring a plane down。 But that’s where they end, Hostage is a fabulous read coming in at nearly 400 pages and (no pun intended) I flew it in a couple of days, just couldn’t put it down。Well fleshed out characters with more then a few things to make you stop and think。
