Small in size, but immensely powerful and inspiring words by Benjamin Ferencz, human rights lawyer and campaigner, now over 100 years of age。 Every human being should read this, take on board his very wise words and carry on the fight for what is right and just。

Finished in one sitting & will re-read in future years。 Inspiring and life-affirming testimony in the face of war's worst horrors。 An antidote to angst, depression, and fear。 Required reading for a meaningful life。 Finished in one sitting & will re-read in future years。 Inspiring and life-affirming testimony in the face of war's worst horrors。 An antidote to angst, depression, and fear。 Required reading for a meaningful life。 。。。more

Wow, what an incredibly humbling read! This book left me feeling inspired & grateful。 Whilst only 160 pages gives us a short overview of Benjamin (Benny) Ferencz’s life, I still found this read to be captivating。 What a century of life experience can teach us about happiness, ambition, courage, love and how to make the most of the lives we've been given。Benny has certainly lived a remarkable life & despite the atrocities he witnessed during WWII he still remains a fundamentally optimistic person Wow, what an incredibly humbling read! This book left me feeling inspired & grateful。 Whilst only 160 pages gives us a short overview of Benjamin (Benny) Ferencz’s life, I still found this read to be captivating。 What a century of life experience can teach us about happiness, ambition, courage, love and how to make the most of the lives we've been given。Benny has certainly lived a remarkable life & despite the atrocities he witnessed during WWII he still remains a fundamentally optimistic person。 Khomami was able to weave together a collection of conversations she's had with Ferencz over the years giving us insight in to his journey from a poor immigrant arriving in the US penniless, to being the youngest Chief Prosecutor for the US Army at the Einsatzgruppen Trial held in Nuremberg。 Some of his other achievements also included leading the project of property being returned to Holocaust survivors & eventually went on to help form the International Criminal Court。 He is a true advocate of championing world peace。I really loved how the book was written。 It was simple, but each chapter full of wisdom which I felt completely mirrored his outlook on life。 As you can see, I’ve tabbed most of the book - orange for my favourite quotes & blues for historical facts that were new to me (just goes to show how much reading can teach you…I studied History & International Relations at university - studied both world wars heavily amongst the founding of the UN & I’m still learning!) 。。。more

Such a fabulous book that everyone should read。 One I’ll definitely go back to time & again。 Only takes a couple of hours to read straight through, but you could dip in and out to the different chapters。 Loved it。

Here and there you will find an endearing passage, but if this book is supposed to help you lead a remarkable life then it does not deliver on its promise at all。

Interesting outlook and bon motifs from this fighter for human rights。

Incredibly this book was recommended to me by my 13 year old son。 I absolutely loved it, I soaked it up, being inspired by bennys deep devotion to a better human kind。 I loved it even more that my son loved this book so much, he has said he wants to read it again because there was just so much good advice that he wants to remember。 I hope this book stays with him forever and I hope that more children turn to books like this one。

3。5 stars。 Ferencz (100 years old and last surviving prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials) is clearly a remarkable man and has had an amazing life。 He seems to have boundless energy and optimism and offers the kind of life advice that is inspiring yet, at the same time, frustratingly unachievable。

Could it be more than 5 stars? I decided to read this book as a friend had given me a gift voucher and I used it to buy books that I wouldn’t normally read。 I have given this three stars as it was ok。 I honestly can’t make my mind up about it。 I had no expectations as I deliberately didn’t read any previews。 Benjamin seems to be a fascinating person yet I feel a little cheated about getting to know him better。 I would have loved to have read more about the Nuremberg trials for example and his role in this。 I thought his life I decided to read this book as a friend had given me a gift voucher and I used it to buy books that I wouldn’t normally read。 I have given this three stars as it was ok。 I honestly can’t make my mind up about it。 I had no expectations as I deliberately didn’t read any previews。 Benjamin seems to be a fascinating person yet I feel a little cheated about getting to know him better。 I would have loved to have read more about the Nuremberg trials for example and his role in this。 I thought his life lessons interesting and full of common sense。 Yet, the book is missing something for me and I wonder if it is the depth I want rather than a series of snapshots。 I don’t regret reading it yet I can’t say I loved it。 。。。more

Parting Words is a quick, uplifting and unencumbered read。 It touches on very basic how to live an uncomplicated, happy life without falling into the typical 'feel good, be strong' tone of most modern self help/spiritual books。 His experiences during the war and his career in Law is fascinating albiet brief in this book despite the massive impact it had on society, culture and justice。 The background of this journey shows depth and helps give a deeper perspective。 I found the lack of emphasis on Parting Words is a quick, uplifting and unencumbered read。 It touches on very basic how to live an uncomplicated, happy life without falling into the typical 'feel good, be strong' tone of most modern self help/spiritual books。 His experiences during the war and his career in Law is fascinating albiet brief in this book despite the massive impact it had on society, culture and justice。 The background of this journey shows depth and helps give a deeper perspective。 I found the lack of emphasis on it showcases Mr Ferencz ability to see the bigger picture and not rest on his laurels, the centre of this book is the passed down wisdom and advice from a 101 year old man who has lived a colourful and challenging life。Well written and enjoyable, this is a well delivered, interesting and clever book。 I enjoyed it very much。 。。。more

If I could give this book more stars I would。 This book was a beautiful read, filled with lots of little reminders in how to live a better, happier, more fulfilled life whatever you do。

I wish I could give this book 10 stars。 It is heart warming, at times heartbreaking, but overall incredibly inspiring! I wish this book was on every school curriculum & I hope many, many people read & absorb the messages contained within。 Love, love this book。

Remarkable storyBenny has achieved a lot in his life much of which made him famous。 His story is a pleasure to read and I suspect re read。Think he probably would have made a better job without the help of the journalist

What a great read to start the year。 Benjamin Ferencz is such a clear-headed, humble and outstanding power of good。 Rather than being a proud recount of his accomplishments in life, this book rather aims to be helpful and interesting, always with the end goal in mind of doing good for mankind。 I’m sure the world would be an even better place if we could all try to be a little more like Benny。。。

Laura McDougall

The man is an absolute legend。 The things he achieved, just thinking for himself and speaking truth to power。。。 I want to give him a hug on behalf of humanity。 I hope that, somehow, he feels that。

Daniel

DisappointingThis man seems to have had an interesting life, but unfortunately lacks the skills to write about it。 The book reads like a secondary school homework project, and the ‘advice’ within on how to have a remarkable life is basic stuff, not what I expected from someone who lived the life he lived。 The advice he gives is the kind of advice given by someone who thinks they have wisdom, rather than has it。 I think this would have been better written by an experienced biographical writer。

Pamela Gray

Such a wonderful book。 It inspires as well as being thoughtful。

I have just turned the last page in Parting Words and found it to be a story of a man who has had an amazing life。 Benjamin Ferencz is now 100 years of age and when he was a young man, he formed and led the prosecution of Nazis who had directed the atrocities during the second world war。 Ben’s life has been, and still is, one of determination and ambition。 He still exercises daily; his wife Gertrude died in 2019 and he misses her dearly。 Their four children achieved much in their lives and are a I have just turned the last page in Parting Words and found it to be a story of a man who has had an amazing life。 Benjamin Ferencz is now 100 years of age and when he was a young man, he formed and led the prosecution of Nazis who had directed the atrocities during the second world war。 Ben’s life has been, and still is, one of determination and ambition。 He still exercises daily; his wife Gertrude died in 2019 and he misses her dearly。 Their four children achieved much in their lives and are all retired now。 Ben was the son of a poor immigrant in the US during the depression years; he made a name for himself and with a scholarship, went to Harvard Law School before becoming a soldier in the war。 His life has been full to the brim of everything you could imagine – and he declares he would love to live another 100 years。 Humbling, fascinating, the nine life lessons this extraordinary man passes onto his readers make Parting Words well worth the read。 Highly recommended。With thanks to Hachette AU for my ARC to read in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

A truly inspiring story told by an incredible man。 Benjamin imparts so much wisdom through this book, the kind that can only be obtained through adversity and time (over 100 years if we are being specific)。 I really admire Benny's outlook on the world and his philosophy for leading a remarkable life。 Maintaining positive and hopefully in the face of such fearful life experiences is difficult I'm sure。 A lot of what Benny wrote in the book, I found myself nodding along in agreement and feeling as A truly inspiring story told by an incredible man。 Benjamin imparts so much wisdom through this book, the kind that can only be obtained through adversity and time (over 100 years if we are being specific)。 I really admire Benny's outlook on the world and his philosophy for leading a remarkable life。 Maintaining positive and hopefully in the face of such fearful life experiences is difficult I'm sure。 A lot of what Benny wrote in the book, I found myself nodding along in agreement and feeling as though it very much resonated with me。 I would highly recommend this book to absolutely everyone。 It is a short and sweet read but you will take a lot from it。 。。。more
