Summary

PreSchool-Grade 2-The star of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! (Hyperion, 2003) returns in another irresistible tale。 Hurrying away to brush his teeth, the pajama-clad bus driver implores readers not to let his feathered friend stay up late。 Youngsters are thrust into the role of caregiver as the puerile pigeon attempts to talk his way out of the inevitable, coming up with requests that range from manipulative (I hear there's a good show about birds on TV tonight。 Should be very educational) to cajoling (Y'know, we never get to talk anymore。 Tell me about your day-¦) to classic (Can I have a glass of water?)。 Meanwhile, the fowl fights yawns and tries to keep his wide eye open, despite a drooping lid。 Defying drowsiness to the last, he finally falls asleep, clutching his stuffed bunny tightly under his wing。 Set against comfortably faded pastel backgrounds, the cartoon artwork focuses tightly on the main character, with his comments presented in dialogue balloons。 The black-crayon lines speak volumes, as the pigeon's body language and the positioning of his ever-expressive eye humorously convey each nuance of the text。 Children will be charmed by this bedtime treat, which will have them laughing out loud at the pigeon-and at themselves。-Joy Fleishhacker, School Library Journal

Great bed time story

I like the rhythm of these, with varying sizes。 I'm a bit stressed by the two sided page with 12 pictures or so -- do I read all the way across, or finish the left page before starting the right? Also, we are all lucky the pigeon fell asleep on her own。 I like the rhythm of these, with varying sizes。 I'm a bit stressed by the two sided page with 12 pictures or so -- do I read all the way across, or finish the left page before starting the right? Also, we are all lucky the pigeon fell asleep on her own。 。。。more

Lexile: 270LDRA:18A cute story, the pigeon seems to be talking to the reader。 Could make a fun activity out of it and see if students can ask the pigeon questions that would prompt the answers he gives in the book。

Mo Willems' pigeon series rarely disappoints and this bedtime edition is no exception。 I dare you to read it without giggling and yawning: impossible。 Mo Willems' pigeon series rarely disappoints and this bedtime edition is no exception。 I dare you to read it without giggling and yawning: impossible。 。。。more

Mo Willems does such a nice job of making sure that his books are interactive。 Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late, is not only funny but it also allows for children to feel as if they are apart of the read aloud。 This book can also be used to relate to student's lives。 Many times little want to stay up late, and they make excuses。 Some of the same excuses that the pigeon even made in the book。 Through this book, children can learn the importance of going to bed on time and not making excuses! I like this pigeon book better than the first because it is a more relatable topic for kids and easier to understand because the pigeon is talking to himself more so than you, the reader。

While perhaps not as laugh-out-loud funny as some of the other Pigeon books, this one is still great fun。All children will be able to identify with Pigeon's refusal to go to bed when he's told。 And we all know that he's not going to be able to stay awake forever!Of all the books in this series that I've read so far, this is definitely the best one for a bedtime read。 While perhaps not as laugh-out-loud funny as some of the other Pigeon books, this one is still great fun。All children will be able to identify with Pigeon's refusal to go to bed when he's told。 And we all know that he's not going to be able to stay awake forever!Of all the books in this series that I've read so far, this is definitely the best one for a bedtime read。 。。。more

Fun

Emma

With a 3 year old who also thinks she should have no bed time, this is a perfect night time story。

Every children’s book collection needs a grumpy tired pigeon story。

Elizabeth Coleman

I really identify with this book right now。

Grade level: Kindergarten-1st GradeGenre: Modern FantasyIf I end up teaching a younger age in the future, I’d love to have this whole series in my collection。 I had never read this one, which I ended up loving! This book would connect to many students due to the excuses the pigeon makes so it can stay up late! I used to make up these same excuses as a kid so I could watch more tv。 Today, it’s kids asking if they can stay up late to play on their IPads!

Its really good

This is a wonderful story where you can have the children help answer。 It is great to show the children how one can be when going to bed。 I love reading this the way THEY would do it。 And they get a kick out of how he acts。
