I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 This book was so good! The drama, the friendships, the romance, everything was so exciting! It was one of those books I didn’t want to put down but forced myself to so it wouldn’t be over too quickly。 The entire premise of following a grandmother’s old love letters and finding love yourself is something I absolutely loved! It was so romantic and filled with drama! The friendships were also so heartwarming and I truly loved all I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 This book was so good! It’s the beginning of the summer before Abby’s senior year of high school when a box of letters belonging to her late grandmother is delivered to her door。 And she becomes completely wrapped up in them, because these letters from a man named Edward speak about a life that Abby knew nothing about。 She knew very little about her grandmother's past。 She fled Germany during the Holocaust and came to the US at a young age, but that is the extent of Abby's understanding of her O'ma's past。Now, she is It’s the beginning of the summer before Abby’s senior year of high school when a box of letters belonging to her late grandmother is delivered to her door。 And she becomes completely wrapped up in them, because these letters from a man named Edward speak about a life that Abby knew nothing about。 She knew very little about her grandmother's past。 She fled Germany during the Holocaust and came to the US at a young age, but that is the extent of Abby's understanding of her O'ma's past。Now, she is heading to Nantucket to the mansion home of Edward's family to dig into the family history that she knows nothing about。 She doesn't expect to find the old wounds she is picking at to still not have fully healed after all of these years and she definitely doesn't expect Edward's grandson, Noah to step in and stop her attempts for answers。Despite the quest for answers, Abby and Noah get closer and closer, simultaneously making it easier and more difficult to get to the truth about her grandmother's past。 She meets a lot of resistance from Noah's grandparents, but Abby is persistent and learns to find her information from other sources, learning more than she ever bargained for。 And as the end of the summer approaches, as things come to a boiling point, Abby may lose the boy she cares about in the process。This was a beautiful story about young love and how it can span a lifetime for some。 I loved how so much of this book was about uncovering the past。 I loved Abby's tenacity and her spirit。 I enjoyed how she stuck with what her gut was telling her even when logic was telling her otherwise。 And I loved the beautiful bond that Noah and Abby create。 The choice between family and love should never be one you have to make, but it is there is these pages and it was written so well。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book, but I was definitely expecting there to be more historical aspects in this story。 I originally thought this was a historical fiction story mixed with a present day story, but it was mainly a contemporary love story。 Don’t get me wrong, that is one of my favorite genres so I wasn’t too disappointed! This is definitely a book for fans of Morgan Matson and Kasie West。 I really loved Noah as a character。 I thought he was really sweet and broke stereotypes。 On the other ha I really enjoyed this book, but I was definitely expecting there to be more historical aspects in this story。 I originally thought this was a historical fiction story mixed with a present day story, but it was mainly a contemporary love story。 Don’t get me wrong, that is one of my favorite genres so I wasn’t too disappointed! A whirlwind of summer romance and adventure 😍This book was so cute and fun。 All of the characters were so lovable and I felt like even the most minor of them played such important roles。 I also think this book came at the perfect time for me, as I am currently trying to uncover some of my family history just like Abigail。 I really felt a connection to Abby as she was scouring various genealogy and census resources just for a glimpse into her grandmother’s life。The Summer of Lost Letters an unexp A whirlwind of summer romance and adventure 😍This book was so cute and fun。 All of the characters were so lovable and I felt like even the most minor of them played such important roles。 I also think this book came at the perfect time for me, as I am currently trying to uncover some of my family history just like Abigail。 I really felt a connection to Abby as she was scouring various genealogy and census resources just for a glimpse into her grandmother’s life。The Summer of Lost Letters an unexpectedly emotional story。 The references to Nazi Germany, strained family relationships, it was a nice change from many YA summer books。 And I loved the Jewish rep!So many parts had my heart physically aching, and others had me laughing out loud。The only thing that irked me was the odd use of so many “big” SAT words。 Sometimes I couldn’t tell if that was just Abby being Abby or what。 。。。more

Seventeen-year-old Abby Schoenberg has recently lost her grandmother O’ma and discovers a stash of old love letters among her belongings。 The letters tell of a romance on Nantucket during the 1950s that was passionate but ended badly。 Her grandmother never spoke of that time of her life and Abby’s curiosity is piqued, so with her parent’s permission she obtains a summer job on the island and begins to sleuth out what happened in O’ma’s past。 Abby soon befriends Noah, the grandson of the man who Seventeen-year-old Abby Schoenberg has recently lost her grandmother O’ma and discovers a stash of old love letters among her belongings。 The letters tell of a romance on Nantucket during the 1950s that was passionate but ended badly。 Her grandmother never spoke of that time of her life and Abby’s curiosity is piqued, so with her parent’s permission she obtains a summer job on the island and begins to sleuth out what happened in O’ma’s past。 Abby soon befriends Noah, the grandson of the man who wrote the letters, and the two confront some hard truths and prejudices that O’ma endured as a Jewish refugee, who lost her biological family in Auschwitz and then lost her secondary family in America。 This is a blend of romance, history, and a coming-of-age narrative that all ties together well。 Abby and Noah’s Jewish faith and background are respectfully represented and showcase the reality that some Jews have to downplay their religion and culture to fit in。 Abby and Noah are cued as white and secondary characters have various ethnicities。Verdict: This contemporary romance with a healthy mix of historical fiction, that also incorporates some deeper truths, will be a fun summer read。 A solid YA purchase。I reviewed this book for the School Library Journal magazine and the review can be found here: https://www。slj。com/?reviewDetail=the。。。 。。。more

I gobbled this story up in a day。 It was exactly what I needed - a fun, light, summer romance wrapped in a faint air of mystery without too much historical fiction to weigh it down。 As Abby and Noah research her grandmother’s past, they also begin to develop feelings for one another。 Their “will they won’t they” romantic connection was a mystery within a mystery。 The hurry up and wait was so frustrating! But, the ending was oh so worth it。

Thank you to Penguin Teen and NetGalley for an eARC。 3。5 rounded down。 I want to preface this by saying I am not a historical fiction fan。 I don’t really have an interest in learning about the past, and I will admit that I skimmed everything that had to do with Abby and her family’s history。 Despite all of that, I actually quite enjoyed this, and found it to be very well written。 Except for one thing。 Abby was fucking obnoxious。 Too obnoxious for her own good, and not in a cute, headstrong way。 Thank you to Penguin Teen and NetGalley for an eARC。 3。5 rounded down。 I want to preface this by saying I am not a historical fiction fan。 I don’t really have an interest in learning about the past, and I will admit that I skimmed everything that had to do with Abby and her family’s history。 Despite all of that, I actually quite enjoyed this, and found it to be very well written。 Except for one thing。 Abby was fucking obnoxious。 Too obnoxious for her own good, and not in a cute, headstrong way。 Good god, I’ve never wanted to smack a teenager so bad IN MY LIFE。 She was so awful and selfish, always trying to pry into everyone’s lives without thinking of how they would feel or what it would mean to them。 She was all about how it was HER family and how SHE needed to know things instead of hearing that maybe it wasn’t the best to go poking around old wounds。 At one point she even said “wasn’t it rude to push someone when they resisted” as if she hadn’t spent??? the entire novel??? pushing Noah’s family??? YES IT IS RUDE and yet how convenient that it wasn’t true for you! Every time I tried to like her or see her point on things, she would do and say something so stupid that it would throw me into a rage again。 Especially since she didn’t even seem like she grew up or changed at all in the end。 The only thing that saved this was Noah。 Sweet, hot, witty Noah, who definitely deserves better than Abby (though I will admit their chemistry was off the charts- even if it took Abby way too fucking long to even admit that she was attracted to him because she was SO STUPID)。 But I digress。 If you really love history and romance, this is definitely for you。 It was a great story overall, and if you can get past Abby’s shitty attitude, I think it could be a four or five star for everyone else。 。。。more

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this。 Adding it to the list for our 10th grade project because it's so Jewish in a totally non Holocaust, modern, lived way, which was something several students identified last year as a mirror they never see。 I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this。 Adding it to the list for our 10th grade project because it's so Jewish in a totally non Holocaust, modern, lived way, which was something several students identified last year as a mirror they never see。 。。。more

As a woman who does not know a whole lot about my family’s history, this story filled me with intrigue。 I haven’t dug into my family tree yet, but after reading this I’m curious to see who my ancestors were and what stories I could find。 I think we tend to take our history and our elders for granted when it’s the true key for who we currently are。 This story had me from the beginning。 I was completely engulfed in O’ma’s tale and wanted to know her past as much as Abby did。 I liked how the story As a woman who does not know a whole lot about my family’s history, this story filled me with intrigue。 I haven’t dug into my family tree yet, but after reading this I’m curious to see who my ancestors were and what stories I could find。 I think we tend to take our history and our elders for granted when it’s the true key for who we currently are。 This story had me from the beginning。 I was completely engulfed in O’ma’s tale and wanted to know her past as much as Abby did。 I liked how the story was told between letters in the past with what Abby had found through the people and evidence guiding her。 There were times while reading I wished for a faster pace in the story。 There were times where the story lulled and the moments where you could really connect with Abby and Noah were few and far between。 I craved more between Noah and Abby because their relationship felt authentic and real。 Having them relive the past and discover not only who their grandparents were, but how it shaped their existence was really interesting to see。I appreciate the representation in this story and how one's culture can define who they are based on the setting they’re in and how they can lean into or negate stereotypes。 To see how society played a role both the early Jewish community and in today's environment was both eye opening and informing。 Overall I did enjoy this story, but the pace was a bit too slow for my liking。 I enjoyed the connection between Noah and Abby which gave me the romance I craved along with the mystery which kept me guessing until the end。 Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Teen for this ARC 。。。more

Details here: https://www。hannahreynolds。net/preorder ******_____________________Hi everyone! I thought I'd use this space to tell you a little more about THE SUMMER OF LOST LETTERS:- Part of the reason I wrote this book is because I've always been OBSESSED with my grandmother's past, especially as a teen。 She and her younger sister, both French Jews, were hidden in a Catholic boarding school during the war; at 17, in 1946, she came to the States to live with distant relatives。 TSoLL isn't based on my grandmother's experience, but it DOES have a 17-year-old heroine determined to figure out her own grandma's secrets, no matter what。- Abby, the heroine, is super nosy, and Noah, her romantic interest, is very closed off and proud。 Is this because I'M nosy and I read too much Pride and Prejudice growing up? Who's to say! (Me。 Yes)。 All I ever want to read/write about are couples who clash immediately, and have to figure out if the sparks between them are, say, hot and sexy sparks, or if they're the kind that will BURN EVERYTHING TO THE GROUND。- Abby works in a bookstore at 17, because, same。 Did I include some of my bookseller stories in here? MAYBE。 Is that because I was the queen of recommending books to people? YES。- The parents in this book are only based on my parents when they are kind, loving and supportive。 When they're driving Abby nuts, they're definitely not based on my parents。 Seriously。 This comment is unrelated to the fact that my parents read everything I write online。- THE SUMMER OF LOST LETTERS is set on Nantucket, an island off Cape Code (off Boston)。 Growing up, I spent every summer visiting the Cape, and writing this book brought me back to those endless beaches, the salt air and sea breeze, and eating endless amounts of ice cream。 (Weirdly, I didn't fall madly in love at Abby's age during these vacations, but hey, you take what you can get)。- THE SUMMER OF LOST LETTERS comes out June 15, 2021, coincidentally five days after my birthday (is this a guilt trip so you buy it? yes!! who am I too be subtle!) which means you can read it RIGHT as summer starts。 You can add it right now on Goodreads, pre-order it through your fav bookstore, and sign up for my newsletter (https://www。hannahreynolds。net/newsle。。。) to get more news! 。。。more
