Summary

Refreshingly hilarious award-winning trainer Oonagh Duncan busts years of weight loss myths and offers the essential mindset and no-nonsense advice to get the healthy and happy lifestyle you want--for good。

Oonagh Duncan is cutting you off before you order yet another shot of weight loss hype。 Not only is she going to put her arm around you and walk you home, she is going to give you a new plan that will leave you feeling optimistic and empowered。 Forget the hangover you normally get when your weight loss venture inevitably fails。 It's time to make a real change。

In Healthy as F*ck, Duncan draws on her 17 years of training experience to drop some knowledge--along with a few f-bombs--and to cut through the confusion about how to get lean and healthy once and for all。 She argues that there's only one major difference between those rare unicorns who have managed to lose weight and keep it off and the rest of us: their habits。 Once you acknowledge that your pact to quit sugar is only in effect when it's convenient--every day, except for birthdays or when someone brings snacks to work or when ice cream is on sale--and make a few small changes your daily routine, you'll be one giant step closer to reaching your weight loss goals。 Let Duncan teach you how to get out of your own way and set yourself up for success。 Before you know it, you'll be healthy as f*ck and it will feel effortless。

Okay I listened to this book during walks and any short drives I took and it was a quick listen。。。and a good listen。 I honestly went into it thinking "why'd you get this, another diet book, how dumb" but Oonagh, thank you for making me call myself out on my bullshit and my negative habit loops。 This provided a straight forward approach, that makes sense, to just getting your shit together (at least when it comes to diet culture and general health)。 Okay I listened to this book during walks and any short drives I took and it was a quick listen。。。and a good listen。 I honestly went into it thinking "why'd you get this, another diet book, how dumb" but Oonagh, thank you for making me call myself out on my bullshit and my negative habit loops。 This provided a straight forward approach, that makes sense, to just getting your shit together (at least when it comes to diet culture and general health)。 。。。more

A funny and straight up, smack you over the head read if you need some common sense life/diet advice。 It’s simple, because it is。 Sometimes a little harder to implement but overall a fun read

I listened to the audiobook of this one and loved it。 As you can tell from the title there are more than a few curse words in it, but it kinda made it more inspiring for me。 I know you think you know this information and I know I did, but Oonagh putting it forth in such a positive and humourous way made me want to get back on the healthy living wagon and change my life for the positive。 It's also a book you can read or listen to again and again for motivation。 I listened to the audiobook of this one and loved it。 As you can tell from the title there are more than a few curse words in it, but it kinda made it more inspiring for me。 I know you think you know this information and I know I did, but Oonagh putting it forth in such a positive and humourous way made me want to get back on the healthy living wagon and change my life for the positive。 It's also a book you can read or listen to again and again for motivation。 。。。more

I like the simple concept of changing your daily habits therefore changing your life! There are countless diets out there that people pay good money for wanting a quick fix, well as the author writes that's all BS! Diets don't work! So learning good healthy habits is the key。 There is a lot of swearing in this book。 I bought it because of the title which was clever。 Believe me I swear and sometimes a lot, not at my work because I work with children, but even I could have done without the F**k it I like the simple concept of changing your daily habits therefore changing your life! I think I needed this woman to call me on my bologna and to help me understand I choose - I choose the effort and the result and I can do a lot more to become the healthy MF that I do want to be。 But there was something else that struck me as said but not said - sometimes we choose to make changes to our diet, exercise or something else because what we really want it to find or achieve another level of happiness。 But what If it is all backwards? If happiness is something that comes from within, I think I needed this woman to call me on my bologna and to help me understand I choose - I choose the effort and the result and I can do a lot more to become the healthy MF that I do want to be。 But there was something else that struck me as said but not said - sometimes we choose to make changes to our diet, exercise or something else because what we really want it to find or achieve another level of happiness。 But what If it is all backwards? If happiness is something that comes from within, perhaps we need to unleash that happiness to pursue a healthier lifestyle。 It feels like that。 It feels like we need to feed our happy first and then we can give our healthy a salad? I really loved this book and will consider it a first aid guide as strive to find more happy and more healthy。 。。。more

This book had some good take aways。 There is quite a lot of profanity in the book and while profanity generally doesn’t bother me, I felt it’s inclusion was at times forced and gimmicky。

Definitely my favorite weight loss/healthy living book ever! The author is super entertaining and calls out all of the excuses people use to get out of eating healthier or exercising。 Definitely recommend it for anyone trying to lose weight or just get your life in order。

Great, Real life living。 I love how the author breaks every step down, makes this straight up real life approach, and cuts to the case and calls it like it is without the fluff。 And not just about eating healthy and exercising and spending a ton of money on weigh loss products; she helps you find your why, discusses nutrition, sleep, alcohol, meal prep, organizing life and cutting out the bullshit。 I gave the book 5 stars because she has made the book easy to read, entertaining, and straight to Great, Real life living。 I love how the author breaks every step down, makes this straight up real life approach, and cuts to the case and calls it like it is without the fluff。 And not just about eating healthy and exercising and spending a ton of money on weigh loss products; she helps you find your why, discusses nutrition, sleep, alcohol, meal prep, organizing life and cutting out the bullshit。 I gave the book 5 stars because she has made the book easy to read, entertaining, and straight to the heart of the matter。 。。。more

It's weirdly common sense, but it's also reassuring to have a health plan that isn't telling you to drop out whole categories of food because they're EVIL。 I love the philosophy of addition to one's life--ADDING half a plate of veggies knowing it will leave less room for junk, rather than making a ban on junk or meat or fat or carbs。Also her philosophy is to do your best and cut the bullshit, but acknowledge perfection will only lead to burnout so it's better to do it halfassed than not do it at It's weirdly common sense, but it's also reassuring to have a health plan that isn't telling you to drop out whole categories of food because they're EVIL。 I love the philosophy of addition to one's life--ADDING half a plate of veggies knowing it will leave less room for junk, rather than making a ban on junk or meat or fat or carbs。Also her philosophy is to do your best and cut the bullshit, but acknowledge perfection will only lead to burnout so it's better to do it halfassed than not do it at all。I listened to the audiobook read by the author, and I loved the delivery。 It felt enjoyable and funny, and I felt like she was a friend helping me out。 I feel like it's a good book for fitness foundations, and would be useful to revisit when in a slump or feeling like the goal is a "perfect" body。 Key habits she mentions1。 Half of every meal = veggies2。 7 hours sleep 3。 No alcohol4。 Eat appropriate portions 5。 Prepping food in advance6。 Meditate 20 min/day7。 Exercise consistently - strength + HIIT xtra effectiveKey strategies she mentions1。 Declutter2。 Utilize social support & minimize social sabotage3。 Breakup with your bullshit & excuses4。 Don't do it perfectly, do it half-assed5。 Create a new identity She also emphasizes that you get to choose IF you want to lose weight。 You get to decide what level of fitness/effort you put in。 No one can decide that for you, and body trends come and go all the time。So far I've already started in adding in a lot more veggies to my diet, I've started giving myself credit for moving even if it's not a full gym workout, and I found a friend that has a routine I want (running 3x a week) and asked if she could help hold me accountable。 Duncan emphasizes that accountability partners should already find the new habit easy, which is something I've never taken into account and has led to less than helpful accountability partnerships。I'll echo the reviews that mention it feels like it's aimed at (wine) moms, but that it doesn't take away from the book。 The alcohol chapter made me a little concerned about what's considered normal (it。。。 kind of felt like she was describing alcoholics?) but it was the only section I didn't really relate to。 。。。more

Nothing new, but a decent summary of everything good。 Quite a simple book, not so much hardcore new information。 Good for a person starting out, but not too much science for the expert level。

I listened to this audiobook (read by the author), which was free on my audible account。 I listened while working out (and trying to establish some healthier habits) in the mornings before work。 I don’t think there was anything super enlightening in this book, but nonetheless it was a good listen, especially while trying to create new, healthier habits。 I’ll admit that I have a pretty bad potty mouth, but this book put me to shame。 I’m trying to decide if it would have been less crass if I was r I listened to this audiobook (read by the author), which was free on my audible account。 I listened while working out (and trying to establish some healthier habits) in the mornings before work。 I don’t think there was anything super enlightening in this book, but nonetheless it was a good listen, especially while trying to create new, healthier habits。 I’ll admit that I have a pretty bad potty mouth, but this book put me to shame。 I’m trying to decide if it would have been less crass if I was reading (as opposed to listening)。。。honestly not sure。 Regardless, don’t let your kids read or listen if you want to shield them from a TON of F bombs 😆 。。。more

Loved this - if broccoli isn’t looking good then you’re not hungry。

I could have really done without all the fat shaming and statements that if you love your fat body it’s fake。

Robert

Written with a woman’s perspective, which I didn’t know when I started the audiobook。 However the information is solid。 It’s done with humor。 A very quick listen。

Cindy

I really enjoyed this audiobook。 Be aware, there is a TON of language—like, almost every sentence。 Definitely could have used fewer f-bombs, but the author is super entertaining and the content of the book is really motivating。

Dana

A great audiobook - it’s like getting coached on health by your girlfriend who cusses a LOT。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Habits and concepts are right on but not new。 “Veggies most” sound familiar? Avoid transfats, avoid added sugar, eat carbs but eat the healthy ones, create healthy habits, etc。? If it doesn’t, then this book lays it all out there for you。 The author is funny and tells it like it is BUT the language is ridiculous, tiresome and completely unnecessary。 First clue? Title。 If you are offended by the occasional f-bomb, don’t read this because it’s literally in every paragraph。

I absolutely loved this book! So motivating and I am already starting to live a truly healthier lifestyle。 So happy my mom recommended it to me。

I enjoy this very much hopefully I’ll be able to implement a lot of these things and make habit changes in my life

3/5 starsAs someone who's been active my entire life, this didn't provide a whole lot of new information for me。 The attention to happiness and the danger of equating that happiness to an idealistic body was a nice way to segue into healthy habits needed in order to live an active, fulfilling life。 The only new habits I'll be trying are filling half my plate with vegetables at every meal and starting a daily meditation routine。 Everything else: portion control, consistent sleep schedule, limited 3/5 starsAs someone who's been active my entire life, this didn't provide a whole lot of new information for me。 The attention to happiness and the danger of equating that happiness to an idealistic body was a nice way to segue into healthy habits needed in order to live an active, fulfilling life。 The only new habits I'll be trying are filling half my plate with vegetables at every meal and starting a daily meditation routine。 Everything else: portion control, consistent sleep schedule, limited alcohol consumption, and consistent exercise is something I already do, AND that information you can find for free on multiple health sites。 This was going to be a four-star book since I believe the information is provided in a fun way that will get beginners revved up but there were several fatphobic statements throughout the book that I cannot ignore, especially when Duncan claims to be a former fat activist。 Also, Duncan advocates for purging your food pantries and throwing everything deemed unhealthy or a deterrent to your health goals IN THE THRASH immediately。 Not potentially donating it to food banks, not spreading that food throughout a week or two to finish off, not giving it away to neighbors or co-workers who might like it, just throw it away! What a privileged and unconscionable thing to say。 She justifies this by claiming eating the food will make your body the thrash bin instead but I strongly disagree。 Food waste is a critical problem in the United States - anywhere from 30 to 40 percent of the food supply in America goes UNUSED。 You really advocating for people to be a part of that problem in a global climate crisis, Duncan? As someone who grew up with sparse pantry shelves, this reeked of both white and upper-class privilege that I have no time to indulge。 。。。more

This is a fun read for busy people that might have lost sight of caring for self and maybe gained a little extra on their waistline。The book has a little of Charles Duhigg’s “Power of Habit” meets Mark Hanson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” with a sprinkling of Covey’s “7 Habits。” Oonagh even has her own big seven habits and refers to Duhigg a few times while addressing reinforcing healthy habits with such key components as triggers and rewards。 She also wants you to consider your versio This is a fun read for busy people that might have lost sight of caring for self and maybe gained a little extra on their waistline。The book has a little of Charles Duhigg’s “Power of Habit” meets Mark Hanson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” with a sprinkling of Covey’s “7 Habits。” Oonagh even has her own big seven habits and refers to Duhigg a few times while addressing reinforcing healthy habits with such key components as triggers and rewards。 She also wants you to consider your version of happiness and what comes with it, which is where she and Hanson have some crossover (as well as in language)。 All in all, it’s really enjoyable and I hope to recommend to anyone trying to maintain or return to a healthy lifestyle after getting wrapped up in the rat race of life。 。。。more
