Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author Darynda Jones comes the second novel in her laugh-out-loud Sunshine Vicram mystery series, A Good Day for Chardonnay。

Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job。 Sadly, full-time Sheriff—and even fuller-time coffee guzzler—Sunshine Vicram, didn’t get that memo。

All Sunshine really wants is one easy-going day。 You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with take-out pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven)。 Turns out, that’s about as easy as switching to decaf。 (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)

Before she can say iced mocha latte, Sunny’s got a bar fight gone bad, a teenage daughter hunting a serial killer and, oh yes, the still unresolved mystery of her own abduction years prior。 All evidence points to a local distiller, a dangerous bad boy named Levi Ravinder, but Sun knows he’s not the villain of her story。 Still, perhaps beneath it all, he possesses the keys to her disappearance。 At the very least, beneath it all, he possesses a serious set of abs。 She’s seen it。 Once。 Accidentally。

Between policing a town her hunky chief deputy calls four cents short of a nickel, that pesky crush she has on Levi which seems to grow exponentially every day, and an irascible raccoon that just doesn’t know when to quit, Sunny’s life is about to rocket to a whole new level of crazy。

Yep, definitely a good day for chardonnay。

I would follow these characters anywhere。 They are engaging, amusing, compelling, and even better in their second outing。 Jones writes a taught action tale, a good mystery, and great, complex, flawed characters。 The somewhat juvenile mooning of the lead character over the object of her crush is appropriate。 But the eventual sex-scene was a bit over the top for me。 Other readers may rejoice。 I look for further adventures of Sunshine Vicram, her friends, her family, her crazy town。

I thought that Darynda Jones couldn't top her Charlie series, but she has。 The story still has the spunkiness and wit of her Charlie's series but I like this more because its about real people and not the supernatural。 This is a sequel to," A Bad Day for Sunshine," that explains a lot about what happened to Sunshine one stormy night。 There is also a very good plot about a missing boy, missing money and a friend of Levi who ends up in the hospital and reminds me never to go on a blind date。 Oh an I thought that Darynda Jones couldn't top her Charlie series, but she has。 The story still has the spunkiness and wit of her Charlie's series but I like this more because its about real people and not the supernatural。 This is a sequel to," A Bad Day for Sunshine," that explains a lot about what happened to Sunshine one stormy night。 There is also a very good plot about a missing boy, missing money and a friend of Levi who ends up in the hospital and reminds me never to go on a blind date。 Oh and the book talks about who's involved in "The Dangerous Daughters," and its quite a story in itself。 Just read the story and find out。 And like all her stories its like being on a rollercoaster, where your scared, excited, thrilled and can't wait to go on the ride again。 I want to Thank St。 Martin's Press and NetGalley for the advance copy of this fun book。 。。。more

I love it! This town is full of crazy and amusing。  So entertaining from the very first page。 I love this author's way of writing。 Very witty。 Very clever。 A lot of sass。 The mystery makes you feel like a detective yourself。 The different connections between other characters will grab you before you can catch your fall。 And OMG why do they avoid each other?! Why is it so difficult for Levy and Sunshine to be together?! Why are they so stubborn?! They are sizzling when they are near each other。 A I love it! Second in this new series and there is so much happening in this story, I found myself slowing down to grab all the nuances, much is buried among the humor and snark。 Enjoyed this book, the Sunshine family and interactions are making me anticipate the next installment。 A definite add to your TBR list。

I always laugh out loud (and occasionally snort indelicately) while reading a Darynda Jones novel。 And A Good Day for Chardonnay most definitely made me laugh。 Sunshine Vicram is snark personified。 I love her relationship with her daughter, her semi-professionalism with her colleagues, and how she threatens to murder her parents if they set her up on another blind date。But I never thought I’d find myself tearing up reading a Darynda Jones novel — other than, of course, laughing so hard my eyes w I always laugh out loud (and occasionally snort indelicately) while reading a Darynda Jones novel。 And A Good Day for Chardonnay most definitely made me laugh。 Sunshine Vicram is snark personified。 I love her relationship with her daughter, her semi-professionalism with her colleagues, and how she threatens to murder her parents if they set her up on another blind date。But I never thought I’d find myself tearing up reading a Darynda Jones novel — other than, of course, laughing so hard my eyes water。 Yet she really brought the feels with this one。 And it was wonderful。I must admit…I like this series even more than I liked her Charley Davidson series。 While both make me laugh, there’s just something about Sunshine and the gang in Del Sol that I so enjoy reading about。 They are quirky, they are charming, and they wormed their way into my heart so quickly in A Bad Day for Sunshine that I can’t help but want to read more and more about them。If you want a fun read with heart, check out Darynda Jones’ latest, A Good Day for Chardonnay。 You’ll definitely laugh, you might cry, and you will certainly enjoy the read。 🙂 *Note: this is not what I would consider a “clean” read…think of it with probably an R rating for some language, sex, and violence。 But I’m still going to give it 4。5 out of 5 stars, because I will read it again! Many thanks to St。 Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the digital copy of this novel for review purposes。 I was not required to give a positive review。 All opinions are my very own! 🙂 。。。more

This is the laugh out loud sequel in Darynda Jones’ new Sunshine Vicram Mystery series and it definitely does not disappoint。 As it opens, Sunshine is called to a bar fight where a man is severely injured。 When she arrives, she finds Levi Ravinder, her crush since basically forever, is there and also injured。 In an attempt to get Levi to the doctor, Sunshine has him arrested, but he escapes and goes in search of the attackers。A well plotted mystery and suspense story, Sunshine is trying to keep This is the laugh out loud sequel in Darynda Jones’ new Sunshine Vicram Mystery series and it definitely does not disappoint。 As it opens, Sunshine is called to a bar fight where a man is severely injured。 When she arrives, she finds Levi Ravinder, her crush since basically forever, is there and also injured。 In an attempt to get Levi to the doctor, Sunshine has him arrested, but he escapes and goes in search of the attackers。A well plotted mystery and suspense story, Sunshine is trying to keep the injured man safe while learning wha someone with his extreme skills is doing in her town。 Levi is determined to find the perpetrators first, and keeps eluding Sunshine’s attempts to keep him in one place。As in the first book, Del Sol is best represented by its assortment of quirky characters including Sunshine’s parents who seem to have more patience than a saint, her daughter whose intentions are good but whose decisions are more like those of any young teenager, and Quincy, Sunshine’s hunky deputy sheriff who calls out the entire force to capture a marauding raccoon。 Along with these characters there is the 83year old who confesses to every crime in town, including the bar fight and the baker who strikes fear in the hearts of all the entire sheriff’s department。 Why? Because whenever she brings baked goods to the department, something bad always happens。As in the first book, there is information here that relates back to the kidnapping of Sunshine when she was a teenager。 An uncle of Levi’s insists on her visiting him in jail where he says if she can get him transferred to New Mexico he has information about Sunshine’s case that he will share。 He also confesses to being the one who killed the suspected kidnapper, but that is still in doubt。Finally, the Dangerous Daughters play a part in this novel as well。 As far is known publicly, they are a secret group of women who have banded together to keep the town safe。 The mayor is threatening Sunshine if she doesn’t discover just who is involved in this group。 Since Sunshine thinks she is already not one of the mayor’s favorite people, she feels as if she is in a tough spot, made tougher by the insistence of the Ravinder uncle that he be paroled。 What if that blows up in her face?Everyone takes a turn in the hot seat, including Levi, Sunshine’s parent, Sunshine’s daughter, and, of course, Sunshine herself。 The pace is lightning fast and the book is hard to put down。 Be prepared to read at least “one more” chapter and maybe several “one mores” before you put it down to do whatever the world is calling you to do。 This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good mystery and good fun with characters who are both unique and well developed。My thanks to St。 Martin’s Press for providing me with an advanced copy of the book for this review。 The opinions stated here are entirely my own。Full review at: https://www。mysteryandsuspense。com/a-。。。 。。。more

WTF?! My last and final thought after finishing this masterpiece of a 2nd novel in this series。 Why must you leave it at that? 😩😩 I’ll just be here hoping it doesn’t take too long and watching like a hawk for book 3!!! Obviously, I immensely enjoyed this follow up to A Bad Day for Sunshine。 Honestly, I loved it more。 I did really like A Bad Day for Sunshine and I admit, I’ve been stalking waiting for news of book 2 and could barely contain my excitement when I got an ARC copy。 But, this book exc WTF?! I love, love the camaraderie, not only between mother and daughter, but Quincy, Rojas, Sybil, Cruz, Levi *waggles eyebrows* and the slew of nutty characters in town。 Speaking of Levi, we get to see a lot more of him in this book and I’m not complaining! Some mysteries revealed, some yet to solve。 So many crimes happening and I was totally in and along for the ride。 Did not want to put this book down。 I feel pretty comfortable with the town and many characters this time around and continue to adore the signs at the beginning of every chapter。 I love how both Auri and Sun work different cases and how they end up intertwining。 I think it adds something extra special getting the different perspective of a teen and her own “case” and relationships。 I’m really, really looking forward to book 3 and can’t wait to see what comes next。 5/5 would recommend! Darynda Jones is always a fun read for me。 Her characters feel real。 The stories aren't noir。 There are real moments, sad moments, tough to read and the kind that stay with you, and characters you've grown to love and don't want to let go of will sometimes die, but there's also joy and love and a feeling that things will work out。This book isn't an exception。 I like that i could read and enjoy it even though I haven't read the first one。 Yes they are all connected, and this book ends at a point Darynda Jones is always a fun read for me。 Her characters feel real。 The stories aren't noir。 There are real moments, sad moments, tough to read and the kind that stay with you, and characters you've grown to love and don't want to let go of will sometimes die, but there's also joy and love and a feeling that things will work out。This book isn't an exception。 I like that i could read and enjoy it even though I haven't read the first one。 Yes they are all connected, and this book ends at a point where i very much need to read the next one to see how it continues, but i don't really have questions about the main mystery of this book。Her world-building is also fantastic。 I can see these characters in all their craziness。 I want to see more of them to see how their stories continue。This was good。 A very solid book with a few different plots you have to keep track of。 You should definitely read the first book first, and i wouldn't read the next one without reading this one。 But you will finish this one with a smile on your face。 。。。more

I was worried this wouldn't live up to A Bad Day for Sunshine, but I need not have。 A Good Day for Chardonnay was equally as funny, sarcastic, quirky, and banter-filled as its predecessor, and I think the mystery (make that mysteries) was better developed and explained。 Plus, there was lots more Levi Ravinder。As in A Bad Day, the storylines follow Del Sol sheriff Sunshine Vikram and her 15-year-old daughter Auri as they try to solve crimes in their weird little town 30 miles or so from Santa Fe, I was worried this wouldn't live up to A Bad Day for Sunshine, but I need not have。 A Good Day for Chardonnay was equally as funny, sarcastic, quirky, and banter-filled as its predecessor, and I think the mystery (make that mysteries) was better developed and explained。 Plus, there was lots more Levi Ravinder。As in A Bad Day, the storylines follow Del Sol sheriff Sunshine Vikram and her 15-year-old daughter Auri as they try to solve crimes in their weird little town 30 miles or so from Santa Fe, and there are a lot of crimes — a possible serial killer, an unsolved abduction from Sunshine's first case as a detective, Sunshine's own abduction when she was 17, etc。。。and a lot of them seem to lead back to the Ravinder clan。 Sunshine is determined to get to the bottom of it all, even if that means getting close to the "dark lord" aka Levi, who is as mysterious and gorgeous as ever。Darynda Jones does a great job of reminding readers of what happened in book 1 and who the recurring characters are, but I recommend reading this series in order。 I was also very pleasantly surprised by how many questions from book 1 were answered in book 2。 One storyline in particular could have dragged on forever but made real progress。 Thanks for not stringing me along mericlessly, Ms。 Jones! This is book two in the Sunshine Vicram series, and you will probably want to read book one *A Bad Day for Sunshine' first to get the backstory。 There is the main mystery (or two) that is solved within this book, but there is another, more personal mystery/storyline that runs throughout the books。 The characters are brilliantly written and well developed。 There is a lot of humor (mostly from the characters personalities。) There is lots of suspense, and secrets are revealed。 There are some emotio This is book two in the Sunshine Vicram series, and you will probably want to read book one *A Bad Day for Sunshine' first to get the backstory。 There is the main mystery (or two) that is solved within this book, but there is another, more personal mystery/storyline that runs throughout the books。 The characters are brilliantly written and well developed。 There is a lot of humor (mostly from the characters personalities。) There is lots of suspense, and secrets are revealed。 There are some emotional scenes。 Plenty of heart ache along the way, but the humor keeps it light hearted enough to keep it more upbeat, despite the serious nature of things。 If you are familiar with the Charley Davidson series by this author, you will feel a familiarity with Sunshine。 She has a similar personality (minus the supernatural aspect。) It keeps your attention throughout and was hard to put down。 Wonderfully written。 It alternates POVs。 There is some mild sexual content and violence。 There is also mention of sexual assault that may be a trigger for some readers (though it is only mentioned and not played out in the pages。)*I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley。 。。。more

I’ve only read one or two books by Darynda Jones and what I’ve read I have thoroughly enjoyed so when I saw A Good Day for Chardonnay offered up for review, I thought sure why not。 I didn’t know it was part of a series and now I am totally kicking myself for not getting the book one in the Sunshine Vicram Series and reading it first。 Not because I feel I missed something but because Chardonnay was so stinking good。 I need more of Sun and her world。 on。 So, what makes this series so special you m I’ve only read one or two books by Darynda Jones and what I’ve read I have thoroughly enjoyed so when I saw A Good Day for Chardonnay offered up for review, I thought sure why not。 I didn’t know it was part of a series and now I am totally kicking myself for not getting the book one in the Sunshine Vicram Series and reading it first。 Not because I feel I missed something but because Chardonnay was so stinking good。 I need more of Sun and her world。 on。 So, what makes this series so special you may ask? It has everything from mystery to wine to dead bodies。 But what this book has that makes it shine is Sunshine。 I freaking LOVE Sun! Sheriff in a small town you would think would be easy peasy job, and it probably would be for anyone but Sun。 Between a bar fight that goes bad, a teenage daughter hunting a serial killer, a raccoon on the loose, and her own personal still unresolved mystery, Sun’s life is anything but quiet。 The character ensemble is some of the best I have read in a long time。 They are fun, quirky and are an endless source of humor for me。 The banter between Sun and Quincy had me in stitches and their special moment with boxes wine…HILARIOUS! Auris antics provide equal amounts of sweetness and giggles。 Someone needs to pin a bell on the teen before she gets into anymore trouble。 As much as I was cheering for Auri and Cruz, the real couple I was on the edge of my seat for, was Sun and Levi。 Are they or aren’t they because Levi is yummy! They certainly have an interesting connection to say the least。 And that ending, that final moment, the final sentence of that book。 Insert endless screaming here。Mysteries abound, chaos ensues, and too many laugh out loud moments to count is all offered in A Good Day for Chardonnay。 Grab yourself as glass of wine, a towel for all the times you will spew said wine out and enjoy this book。 Listen to me when I say this is a series you do not want to miss out。 Stars: 5I received this book from Netgalley。 I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided。 All thoughts and opinions are my own 。。。more

A Good Day for Chardonnay is a continuation of A Bad Day for Sunshine, published about a year ago。 The story begins slowly, and the first few chapters are a little too light and silly。 Events do begin to happen, though - there's a stabbing, and Sheriff Sunshine's forever "crush", Levi, is involved。 There's also another story to follow at the same time。 Sunshine's daughter, Auri (Sunshine was abused during a kidnapping, and 9 months later, Auri is born) decides to solve an old case, and in the pr A Good Day for Chardonnay is a continuation of A Bad Day for Sunshine, published about a year ago。 The story begins slowly, and the first few chapters are a little too light and silly。 Events do begin to happen, though - there's a stabbing, and Sheriff Sunshine's forever "crush", Levi, is involved。 There's also another story to follow at the same time。 Sunshine's daughter, Auri (Sunshine was abused during a kidnapping, and 9 months later, Auri is born) decides to solve an old case, and in the process gets into some trouble herself。 The story is long, and filled with silly humor, some of which is annoying。 I was glad when Jones finally wraps up the story and I felt like the ending was appropriate and satisfying。I could bump the number of stars to 4 if the book was edited down a little, and the humor was a little more sophisticated, I suppose。Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read A Good Day for Chardonnay。 。。。more

There is nothing in the world that makes me happier than diving in to a Darynda Jones book。 If you haven't read the first book in the series, I'd highly recommend doing so before reading book two because there will be major spoilers if you don't, so fair warning before picking up A Good Day for Chardonnay。See my full review here: http://nerdychic。net/a-good-day-for-c。。。 There is nothing in the world that makes me happier than diving in to a Darynda Jones book。 If you haven't read the first book in the series, I'd highly recommend doing so before reading book two because there will be major spoilers if you don't, so fair warning before picking up A Good Day for Chardonnay。See my full review here: http://nerdychic。net/a-good-day-for-c。。。 。。。more

Ah ha, I knew it。 I had a major suspicion on something, and it was confirmed in this book。 I'm curious to see where it will lead from here。 Love this series, but really anything Darynda Jones writes is fabulous。 Ah ha, I knew it。 I had a major suspicion on something, and it was confirmed in this book。 I'm curious to see where it will lead from here。 Love this series, but really anything Darynda Jones writes is fabulous。 。。。more
