Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author of Everything, Everything and The Sun is Also a Star Nicola Yoon is back with her eagerly anticipated third novel。 With all the heart and hope of her last two books, this is an utterly unique romance。

Evie Thomas doesn't believe in love anymore。 Especially after the strangest thing occurs one otherwise ordinary afternoon: She witnesses a couple kiss and is overcome with a vision of how their romance began 。 。 。 and how it will end。 After all, even the greatest love stories end with a broken heart, eventually。

As Evie tries to understand why this is happening, she finds herself at La Brea Dance studio, learning to waltz, fox-trot, and tango with a boy named X。 X is everything that Evie is not: adventurous, passionate, daring。 His philosophy is to say yes to everything--including entering a ballroom dance competition with a girl he's only just met。

Falling for X is definitely not what Evie had in mind。 If her visions of heartbreak have taught her anything, it's that no one escapes love unscathed。 But as she and X dance around and toward each other, Evie is forced to question all she thought she knew about life and love。 In the end, is love worth the risk?

Thank you Penguin for arc!
All thoughts and opinions are my own。Ever since she found out about her dad’s infidelity, Evie Thomas is very skeptical when it comes to love。 One after, she realizes that she can see how couples got together and how their relationships end when they kiss。 I really enjoyed this story。 It was heartfelt, sweet, heartbreaking and funny。 The characters were great。 Fifi was my favorite。 I loved X’s carefree spirit and his passion for music。 The settling was great as well。 I Thank you Penguin for arc!

I have loved every book Nicola Yoon has written。。so far。。。and can’t wait for the next one。 This one is a tear jerker for sure, but I love the message about love and being open to it even when it hurts。

This book destroyed me!!! I am not sure what I was expecting。 I danced for many years and thought this would be a fun book about dancing。 Oh no。 Don’t be fooled。 This book is about love and heart break and so many deeper things and I am destroyed。 The characters are beautiful and wonderful and I was so wrapped up in this story that I almost read the whole book in one sitting。 But man, this book is heavy。 I’m not sure how I feel about the ending。 I feel too many things I think。 I’m a total fan of the HEA and I did not feel that’s what this was and I’m not sure I liked that。 I still feel sad and kind of heartbroken that the book ended that way。 I get the message of the book but for these kids to experience such heart ache so young doesn’t set well with me。 This book will make you think。 It will make you explore your feelings about how you would handle certain situations。 I haven’t read any other read any other books by Nicola Yoon to know whether this similar to her other books but now I definitely want to read them。 The writing was exquisite and engaging。 Overall, I enjoyed this book despite my heart still aching over this story。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC! All opinions are my own!I loved how this wasn't a straight-up contemporary。 If you've read it you know what I'm talking about ;) I loved how this twist came into play quite a lot。 Characters:Alright, can we talk about how much growth Evie went through? Although I did kinda prefer the plot in this one。 I loved Fifi, she was amazing!Plot:There were a few things that felt off to me, that's why I gave the book 4 stars。 I kind of felt like the romance was a little insta love。 But to be fair I read the majority of this in a day。 Plus the story was spread out over a few months and my brain didn't compute that。, but I did love the romance non -the-less!。 I also kinda wished dance was more at the forefront。 I felt like there was a small chunk of the book without the dance part, even that's a huge part of the book。 Despite these little issues I absolutely loved this book! If you love contemporary with a little twist, I highly recommend this!! Super fun, super cute, and super quick! (also there's an lgbtq+ side romance!)⭐⭐⭐⭐ 。。。more

This is one of those books that starts off moderately fluffy than at some point becomes a little bit more serious。 I loved the whole ballroom dancing aspect and I found Fifi hilarious through most of the book but at certain moments things got a bit deeper。 The book definitely had a bittersweet ending but it felt like a good conclusion to this particular story。Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an arc via netgalley

I received an ARC of Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon thanks to the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。Review:Nicola Yoon is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine。 She also wrote Everything, Everything, which is an incredible story of someone who is extremely immunocompromised (essentially) and struggle between that and a being a teenager。 If you haven't read it, I highly recommend。 She also wrote The Sun Is Also A Star, which is just as amazing。 This is why I received an ARC of Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon thanks to the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。Review:Nicola Yoon is quickly becoming a favorite author of mine。 She also wrote Everything, Everything, which is an incredible story of someone who is extremely immunocompromised (essentially) and struggle between that and a being a teenager。 If you haven't read it, I highly recommend。 She also wrote The Sun Is Also A Star, which is just as amazing。 This is why I chose to pick up Instructions for Dancing (plus the cover is fantastic and super eye-catching!)。 I'm happy to report that I am just as satisfied with Instructions for Dancing as I was for Everything, Everything。 Nicola Yoon takes a complicated situation and weaves a story around it and coming-of-age。 Evie is attempting to cope with her parents' divorce and that overwhelming feeling that love only exists to cause pain。 And the glimpses she sees only proves it。 Then enters X。 X is a go-with-the-flow, always-say-yes person that goes against everything Evie believes。 So, of course, she hates him。 However, they still need to work together to save the dance studio that Evie was guilted into joining。 Overall, I really enjoyed the story and how it progressed。 It had really good pacing and development。 I loved Evie's character arc and the ending was so good there were tears。 I highly recommend reading this if you like cynical teens and bittersweet romances。 。。。more

Dammit Nicola Yoon ripped my heart out all over again and made me really think about the meaning of love。 She is great…good thing she has her own imprint now with her husband celebrating diverse love stories。 This one is equally as good as her other two。 Less multi genre perspectives doing the work, but still an interesting literary magical element for the story。 Everyone will appreciate this fast paced, short chapter, thoughtful book。

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review。 All opinions are my own。 I haven’t read Nicola Yoon before, although her books have been hyped in the YA book community, especially with both her previous books having been adapted for film。 So, I didn’t have much of a frame of reference for what to expect with Instructions for Dancing, although it looked like a great mix of fun and heartfelt。 What I didn’t expect was that it would be a balm for my soul comin I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review。 All opinions are my own。 I haven’t read Nicola Yoon before, although her books have been hyped in the YA book community, especially with both her previous books having been adapted for film。 So, I didn’t have much of a frame of reference for what to expect with Instructions for Dancing, although it looked like a great mix of fun and heartfelt。 What I didn’t expect was that it would be a balm for my soul coming out of a particularly challenging couple weeks, complete with a min-reading slump。 Evie is immensely relatable, being a formerly romantic soul whose heart has been hardened by her parents’ divorce。 Where once she could catalog her love of romances by genre and trope, she now sees doom and gloom everywhere, even in the “gift” given to her where she sees the trajectory of entire relationships before they happen, or while they’re in their early stages。 There were moments when I feared the turn this would take, especially when she saw the potentially dark fate of her own relationship。 But while many people dwell on the idea that love is always doomed, those people will fail to see the beauty in love itself while it happens。 While the book still has a happy ending (and I would have broken things if it didn’t), I think it’s much sweeter when reinforced by the fact that endings aren’t the sole thing worth dwelling on。 But ultimately, this is super sweet, and X is a great love interest who is totally perfect for Evie, even though she spends most of the book being a pessimist toward the idea of their relationship。 This is a cute book that hits the essential romance plot beats while also tugging on your emotions as it unpacks those essential elements。 Anyone looking for a sweet YA romance will love this。 。。。more

Nicola Yoon always manages to bring on the feels!I went into this book thinking it would be another typical romance novel, which I wasn't in the mood for, but it turned out to be so much more than that。 This book left me:A) Heartbroken and in tears - my poor boyfriend had to listen to be sob the unfairness of love at 1am when I finally finished it。B) So hopeful that true love exists and that everyone has that someone, they just need to find them, and C) even if you' I absolutely loved this book! I don’t know why I went into this thinking it was going to be a fluffy ya novel! This book took me by surprise!Evie’s world changed the day her dad left her mum for another woman。 She no longer looks at the bright side of life or believes in true love。 She throws out all her romance novels knowing she’ll never be able to read them again。 So decided to leave them all in a local street library。Leaving her romance novels she takes a copy of instructions for dancing and noticed an address for a stud I don’t know why I went into this thinking it was going to be a fluffy ya novel! This book took me by surprise!Evie’s world changed the day her dad left her mum for another woman。 She no longer looks at the bright side of life or believes in true love。 She throws out all her romance novels knowing she’ll never be able to read them again。 So decided to leave them all in a local street library。Leaving her romance novels she takes a copy of instructions for dancing and noticed an address for a studio, she sees a couple kiss in front of her and she can see the entire relationship, from start to the end of their bitter break up, concreting her theory that true loves doesn’t last。She meets X at the dance studio and is paired with the owners grandson who just so happens for be X。 What starts as getting to know one another for “dancing” turns into so much more。 Just when Evie starts to give into her feelings she sees something that she never wanted too and pulls away from everyone and everything。 Can true love really break the spell Evie’s under?Oh my goodness, experiencing true love for the first time and knowing one day that it will end is utterly terrifying。 This book honestly exceeded my expectations And has become my favourite Yoon novel。 @nicolayoon well played with my fragile heart。 。。。more

*3。5 stars*BRB, recovering from having my heart ripped out。 Gah! Such good storytelling with both such an original concept and the fun of playing with romance tropes。
