Summary

Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive。 And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits。 Worse, she can't seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it。

The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre's Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta's orbit。 But her temper isn't the only thing Cassian ignites。 The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other。

Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms。 And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts。

Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other's arms。

While I enjoyed this, it was WAY too long and started to feel like a chore to read。 I honestly think it could’ve been half the length it was。 I also hated Feyre and Rhys’ storyline and thought it felt a little rushed and patched up like an afterthought in the end。 There were a few times when the magic felt a little TOO convenient, and once or twice when Maas effectively said “I know there’s magic that should keep this from happening but idk it didn’t work this time I guess。” I think ultimately I While I enjoyed this, it was WAY too long and started to feel like a chore to read。 I honestly think it could’ve been half the length it was。 I also hated Feyre and Rhys’ storyline and thought it felt a little rushed and patched up like an afterthought in the end。 There were a few times when the magic felt a little TOO convenient, and once or twice when Maas effectively said “I know there’s magic that should keep this from happening but idk it didn’t work this time I guess。” I think ultimately I enjoy this series a lot but wish wish wish Maas had better editors。 。。。more

I disliked Nesta for 90 percent of this book。

Well, she reeled me back in。 I swear it’s like one good book, two awful books that make me question how and why I still read SJM and yet here we are on a good book。 This was delightfully predictable fantasy trash, that I devoured in a few days。 Was it memorable? No。 Did I learn anything? No。 Did I still cringe at certain phrasing and overly descriptive sex scenes? Yes。 Did I still enjoy myself? Absolutely。

This book took me 7 days to read 750 pages! Absolutely beautiful and gorgeous and didn’t think I was going to cry and then the very last chapter got me good。 10/5 rating!

I love Sarah J Maas and this book was no exception。 This book was different from others in that it was really more the journey of self than the journey towards an epic scene。 I honestly felt I wanted/needed more of an epic scene。 And woah this was steamy! No YA here, that gray area was 100% crossed!

I loved the way of writing way better of the otter court books

Okay, so the first thing you need to know about this is: It's long。 Like over 750 pages long and if you are so (un)lucky as to hold down a steady job and a somewhat existing social life (thanks again COVID for making that almost fucking impossible over here in Europe)- it's difficult to do your inner readathon-book nerd justice。 I did not manage to read this in one sitting because TIMING。 If you are a pseudo-functioning adult, like myself, start reading this on a Friday night or Saturday morning Okay, so the first thing you need to know about this is: It's long。 Like over 750 pages long and if you are so (un)lucky as to hold down a steady job and a somewhat existing social life (thanks again COVID for making that almost fucking impossible over here in Europe)- it's difficult to do your inner readathon-book nerd justice。 I did not manage to read this in one sitting because TIMING。 If you are a pseudo-functioning adult, like myself, start reading this on a Friday night or Saturday morning so you will be spared the pain of having to go to work, three hours after starting the book。 Of course I am excluding relevant jobs that have operating hours on the week-ends, but I hope you are getting the general message of what I am trying to say。 You are Maas readers as it is, so I am hopeful。 AH SWEET AGONY!Onto the book: I did not think I could like Nesta one bit, but was proven wrong within 2% into the book。 That is good writing。 I was all like "Oh how dare they treat her like that!" and "Feyre! The audacity to run Nesta's life like that! You are not here mother and you would be a bad one acting like that!"I will say there were some non-conclusive parts in here as well for me。 The way I saw Nesta she would have opted for life in the human realms, because FUCKEVERYONE! But well。。。Cassian is a darling and their romance is sizzling HOT HOT HOT。 I was here for that。I was not here for all the abuse and shit which Cassian is also a part of。 Especially when it's about her weight problems。 Really, Nesta can't do anything right。 She as a person is just wrong and I hate how that messes with her。 She is this fierce warrior queen and I love her, because she is soft underneath but not pathetic--- until Maas sweeps in with his book。 I get that Maas needed us to like Nesta and that for achieving that she had to make other characters more round and therefore also a bit more unlikable。 But hell 。。。 this was too much。 This book will not disappoint you if you like Maas books in general and are ready to really dislike Feyre and Rhy -- A LOT! 。。。more

5 out of 5!That's it。 I am trash for Nesta Archeron。 So far, this "Lady Death" is my fave sister。 Not only because she is a certified book junkie, such as I, but because of the tremendously excruciating process of her coming back into herself。 It was fucking no way near easy, facing what Nesta faced。 So much respect。The journey was absolutely de-li-cious。(view spoiler)[Oh my。 The actual health resonates throughout this series and this particular one takes the cake (so far)。 PTSD。 Sexual abuse。 Graphic violence。 Substance abuse。 Grief。 Depression。 It's all scattered throughout this series and they were well-written, well-portrayed, and handled。SJM really knows how to bring her characters in the lowest of the low and then magnifies that。 She mastered putting into play that feeling of hating your own guts, hating your self, getting yourself into this deep dark blackness。 Just pure self-grief and then letting everything out, finally putting the character into this built-up breakdown that just freaking pierced me, I fcking felt it。Nesta at the peak of the mountain。 After 5 days of hiking it with Cassian, who made her bring this heavy hiking bag while scaling the mountain with rationed amount of food and water。 This was my favorite part (I believe around Chapters 48-50)。I want to say how much I came to love the heck out of Nesta's character after this book。 So much respect。 Her journey is much more appreciated since she started out really down there。 Like down down down there。 With her alcoholic tendencies and fucking the guy/s of her choice after a night of full substance abuse。 Wasting away in the pleasure hall。 That was yeeesh。And so, her family decided the shit has got to stop and sent her to this faraway house where the only way in or out is through winnowing, flying, or walking down 10,000 steps of stairs。 She had to train with Cassian and was assigned a sorting job in the library with Clotho and Gwyn and other priestesses。The book was divided into 4 parts: Novice, Blade, Valkyrie, and Ataraxia。 I found this brilliant and really fitted with the progression of the story and the characters, especially Nesta。Points to remember for when next book arrives:• Nesta & Cassian had a mating bond ceremony, much like a wedding。 Nesta changed her womb into that of an Illyrian for when their time comes to have a baby and not go thru a process similar to Feyre, who also got her uterus changed into an Illyrian's。• Nesta, Emerie, and Gwyn are have achieved being Valkyries and are still continuing practice to be much better。• Nesta gave back what she took from the Cauldron to save Feyre and Nyx。 Rhys knelt for her and thanked her。 Nesta still had remaining powers The Mother chose to leave to her。• Nesta created Made weapons。 A dagger, A sword, and a great sword, named Ataraxia。 The dagger was given to Eris (whom I suspect is MOR'S MATE!!!!) • The Harp, The Mask, and The Crown (The Dread Trove collectively), are kept and warded in the Night Court and only Rhys, Helion, Nesta know how to get it。 It was said that a drop of Nesta's blood can remove the wards around the objects。• There is something between Elain and Azriel。 Azriel and Gwyn。 Lucien and Vassa (?)。 Eris and Morrrrr (I ship)。 Though Mor hates Eris's guts。 But there's more that Eris ain't telling us about the day he supposedly left Mor with nails on her stomach, bleeding to death。• Nesta and the House are besties。 Nesta was said to Made the House into her friend。 The House showed it her heart down under it。• Jurian and Vassa are a no show in this book。 Maybe on the next one。 Vassa is the cursed queen, who becomes firebird at night, and human by day。 Lucien also had little appearance here except during Winter Solstice (also Feyre's bday) wherein they exchange elaborate and heartfelt gifts。• There's no to little Elain and Lucien progress。 As mates, they still interact not much。 Lucien is always away。 Elain is always occupied either from gardening or other things。 Not much has been written for now。 Excited for her story。 Though there is a bonus chapter told in Azriel's pov where him and Elain ALMOST KISSED if not for Rhys calling Az up into his office and scolding him and officially ordering him to stay away from Elain or else risk a BLOOD DUEL where Lucien and Az had to fight。Also, a Gwyn and Az moment was also written where Az dropped in on Gwyn practicing on slicing the ribbon with a sword。 The necklace Az wanted to give Elain was never received by Elain and so he dropped off in the library and gave it to Gwyn instead through Clotho。 This bonus chapter is confusing my ships。 Though, I lean more on the ELAIN/AZRIEL one。 But, Gwyn and Az are not bad also。 We'll see。 I let SJM's writing bring me into a solid answer。• Again, Cassian and Nesta are matesss。 At first, Nesta was trying her hardest to reject the bond, reject Cassian but beeyatch u can't reject your big ass horny self over Cassian, who is equally hots for u。 !!! My fave ship。 ❤️ Though, I love my Feysand also。(hide spoiler)]Excited for the next book。 Started reading this, I believe last April 26 and now it's May 11 and it's safe to say I am crazy for SJM。Planning to dive into Crescent City。 🧡 。。。more

Wonderful Series When I started this book I didn’t like Nesta very much。 But all she’s been through and put herself through has throughly changed my mind。 This book is a great read, well the entire series is great。 This one is just a bit extra special。 I hope their are more books to come。

The Valkeries making it there after a significantly shorter training time than most illyrians makes the whole thing seem less impressive idk-This has the feel of a series that was originally meant to stop at 3 books。 I dont know if thats true, but the progression of the plot felt a bit forced to me。-Writing is a bit repetative-Not a huge fan of the ending as a whole。 Probably doesn't help that I hate nearly all pregnancy storylines。 Also, why do so many mega-powerful female protagonists always have to lose the majority of their power at the end? I get the lessons and all, but its so common and I'm SORRY okay, i just want the OP magic chick to get to stay extremely powerful。 Haha also why is everyone so mean to Eris。 Lol anyways 3。75 stars 。。。more

SJM’s writing style has officially pissed me off。-this book is too long。 No action until 350 pages in?!-I’m sick of her name-swapping habit。 Just call the characters their damn names。-when all of them are described as “devastatingly beautiful” I kinda don’t care anymore。-the story and world building is still amazing but in the last 10 pages I had to see the word “male” about a million times and I’m SO OVER IT。that said I’ll probably read the next one if Azriel is in it more。。。。。

I had a harder time starting this one but by the middle I was hooked。 Even thou the ending could be considered predictable I still loved it, all the character build ups for Nesta and her new sisters were paid off and I was so happy to see her come out on the other side。 the side story about the new baby was just that, a side story and it was nice to have the focus be about Nesta and her growth and healing。 wraps up this story nicely but leaves it still open for the main war and another new big b I had a harder time starting this one but by the middle I was hooked。 Even thou the ending could be considered predictable I still loved it, all the character build ups for Nesta and her new sisters were paid off and I was so happy to see her come out on the other side。 the side story about the new baby was just that, a side story and it was nice to have the focus be about Nesta and her growth and healing。 wraps up this story nicely but leaves it still open for the main war and another new big bad to play out。 。。。more
