Summary

In this uplifting memoir in the vein of The Last Lecture and Man’s Search for Meaning, a Holocaust survivor pays tribute to those who were lost by telling his story, sharing his wisdom, and living his best possible life。

Born in Leipzig, Germany, into a Jewish family, Eddie Jaku was a teenager when his world was turned upside-down。 On November 9, 1938, during the terrifying violence of Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, Eddie was beaten by SS thugs, arrested, and sent to a concentration camp with thousands of other Jews across Germany。 Every day of the next seven years of his life, Eddie faced unimaginable horrors in Buchenwald, Auschwitz, and finally on a forced death march during the Third Reich’s final days。 The Nazis took everything from Eddie—his family, his friends, and his country。 But they did not break his spirit。

Against unbelievable odds, Eddie found the will to survive。 Overwhelming grateful, he made a promise: he would smile every day in thanks for the precious gift he was given and to honor the six million Jews murdered by Hitler。 Today, at 100 years of age, despite all he suffered, Eddie calls himself the “happiest man on earth。” In his remarkable memoir, this born storyteller shares his wisdom and reflects on how he has led his best possible life, talking warmly and openly about the power of gratitude, tolerance, and kindness。 Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful。 With The Happiest Man on Earth, Eddie shows us how。

Filled with his insights on friendship, family, health, ethics, love, and hatred, and the simple beliefs that have shaped him, The Happiest Man on Earth offers timeless lessons for readers of all ages, especially for  young people today。

Everyone should read this book。 I think it will become a classic, on par with To Kill A Mockingbird。 More simply written, but with an equally powerful message。

I am deeply dismayed to see starred reviews of this book, especially ones which ask for "more detail" or refer to Jaku as "preachy。" This memoir is so important。 I am so grateful that he was able to share his story。 I am deeply dismayed to see starred reviews of this book, especially ones which ask for "more detail" or refer to Jaku as "preachy。" This memoir is so important。 I am so grateful that he was able to share his story。 。。。more

Eddie Jaku, relates the horrors of Buchenvald and Auchwitz and the lessons he has learned from them: You need love to share, health to spare and friends to care to live a good and happy life。 He always tries to be kind, polite and helpful, giving back to his fellow man。 A sorrow shared is halved, a pleasure shared is doubled。

8。5/10 The author's story is incredible。 I kind of wish it was longer so more details were given。 A lot of great life lessons。 8。5/10 The author's story is incredible。 I kind of wish it was longer so more details were given。 A lot of great life lessons。 。。。more

This is one of the best books, if not the best, I have read all year。 I found it difficult to put down。 Eddie Jaku recounts his amazing Holocaust survival story, and in doing so, shares his philosophy of life with his readers。 This is definitely a must read。

Oh man! I cried so much during the reading of this book by my new friend Eddie。 The atrocities he survived and still managed to not succomb to what the Nazis wanted from a Jew, which was to be unhappy and die is remarkable。 His words will live with me for a very long time。 Thank you Mr。 Jaku。 I wish I could thank you in person for being such a beautiful soul。

This book grabbed my attention as I loved the title and loved the positivity of this wonderful man。It was a book about a subject that is often not easy to read about but Eddie Jaku told a story, his story, about the tough times he endured without making it gruesome。 He found positive things in negative times, he brought his life back from the brink and made his own happiness。It really is a book anyone can read as it is written in a simple but truthful way。 I really enjoyed reading it and would r This book grabbed my attention as I loved the title and loved the positivity of this wonderful man。It was a book about a subject that is often not easy to read about but Eddie Jaku told a story, his story, about the tough times he endured without making it gruesome。 He found positive things in negative times, he brought his life back from the brink and made his own happiness。It really is a book anyone can read as it is written in a simple but truthful way。 I really enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to everyone。The Happiest Man on EarthEddie Jaku 。。。more

Probably one of the best books I’ve read。 The audio book was great。 This book make me cry, smile, and re-evaluate my own way of thinking。 The wisdom he shares is incomparable to other self help books。 And what a pleasant surprise to found out he ended up moving one suburb away from me! Love a local story。

I think Eddie Jaku is not only The Happiest Man on Earth but the most wise and kind man on the planet too。 To be 101 years of age and still spreading the word of love and hope over hate and fear is just astounding。 Eddie’s book is a harrowing story of suffering yet even in moments of utter horror this man found the strength and compassion to survive and help as many people along the way as he could。 I urge everyone to read this book to appreciate that goodness can outshine even the most pure of I think Eddie Jaku is not only The Happiest Man on Earth but the most wise and kind man on the planet too。 To be 101 years of age and still spreading the word of love and hope over hate and fear is just astounding。 Eddie’s book is a harrowing story of suffering yet even in moments of utter horror this man found the strength and compassion to survive and help as many people along the way as he could。 I urge everyone to read this book to appreciate that goodness can outshine even the most pure of evil。 The fact that the author calls his readers his new friends throughout the book just melted my heart。 Read this book and prepare to gasp, cry and smile until your heart might burst。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(The audiobook of this story is fantastic: Jacek Koman’s voice matches Eddie’s words and sentiments brilliantly)。 #thehappiestmanonearth #eddiejaku #panmacmillanaustralia #holocaustsurvivor #bookstagram #book #fivestarreview #borrowbox #audiobooks 。。。more

I’d give 3。5 stars rounded up to 4。 We’ve all read so many Holocaust stories and this is fairly typical of them。 The difference is that this book is more in the tradition of “The Last Lecture” when a hundred year old man reflects on what his life has taught him about family, friendship and joy。 I appreciated his commitment to tell his story to make sure what happened to Jews and so many others isn’t forgotten。

Uma mensagem de esperança, que emerge de um relato da vivência dura e atroz da passagem pelos campos de concentração de Auschwitz。

What an amazing story and character。 Eddie was 100 years old when he produced this book with the help of a writer who captured his authentic voice。 After experiencing the depths of despair and horrific torture by the nazis, and many attempts at escape, deprived of food and dignity, he managed to survive where others were not so fortunate。 After the desperate horrors of the war, he met and married the woman who would become his lifelong partner in love and business and continue to have children, What an amazing story and character。 Eddie was 100 years old when he produced this book with the help of a writer who captured his authentic voice。 After experiencing the depths of despair and horrific torture by the nazis, and many attempts at escape, deprived of food and dignity, he managed to survive where others were not so fortunate。 After the desperate horrors of the war, he met and married the woman who would become his lifelong partner in love and business and continue to have children, grandchildren and great grandchildren。 His message is simple。 You can choose to be happy, spread love and kindness in the world, and treat all others with respect。 Surrounded by hate, he has inspired us all with the simplicity of his message of kindness。 。。。more

Incredible book on humanity’s darkest of times, from the perspective of a beautiful human who endured the unimaginable。 This book takes you to the Holocaust and reminds you of everything we have to be grateful for。 It shows that even in the darkest of times, there is always something to be grateful for。

A beautiful story of hope in a disgraceful episode of history that saw such terrible suffering and loss。 This book made me cry with empathy and smile hearing the words my grand mother shared with me often。 "Smile and the world smiles with you" A beautiful story of hope in a disgraceful episode of history that saw such terrible suffering and loss。 This book made me cry with empathy and smile hearing the words my grand mother shared with me often。 "Smile and the world smiles with you" 。。。more

Perhaps what sets this book apart is the straight-forward tone of the writing。 If you’re looking for lyrical words or phrases, this isn’t the memoir for you。 But if you want to read a book which feels like you just sat down for the best conversation over coffee and pastries, this is the memoir for you。I loved how Eddie takes us on his journey through the Holocaust - never backing away from the terror of it, and never saying that he never felt hopeless。 Instead, Eddie comes out with a message tha Perhaps what sets this book apart is the straight-forward tone of the writing。 If you’re looking for lyrical words or phrases, this isn’t the memoir for you。 But if you want to read a book which feels like you just sat down for the best conversation over coffee and pastries, this is the memoir for you。I loved how Eddie takes us on his journey through the Holocaust - never backing away from the terror of it, and never saying that he never felt hopeless。 Instead, Eddie comes out with a message that says that happiness can be found。 Never give up on hope, even if it feels hopeless。 Hate is a disease。 We can overcome it。You’re going to cry。 But the fact that Eddie makes you feel like you just became best friends is worth the emotional roller coaster。Thank you to the publisher for an ARC to read! 。。。more

Thanks Goodreads for this book that my wife shared with me。 An extremely fast, good read about Eddie from his childhood until now when he's 100 years old and how he survived the Nazi death camps。 One of the interesting side stories is about him becoming friends with someone in the first camp he was in and how their paths crossed a few times during the war and how they both survived and their friendship endured。 Thanks Goodreads for this book that my wife shared with me。 An extremely fast, good read about Eddie from his childhood until now when he's 100 years old and how he survived the Nazi death camps。 One of the interesting side stories is about him becoming friends with someone in the first camp he was in and how their paths crossed a few times during the war and how they both survived and their friendship endured。 。。。more

This story has left me in awe。。。 of a man who survived the horrors of the Holocaust, of a man who calls himself the happiest man on earth, of a centenarian who shares his story, has been married for 74 years and continues to inspire others to be kind, the share happiness and to make the world a better place。if you need a bit more encouragement to read the book, check out this article:https://www。smh。com。au/culture/books/。。。 This story has left me in awe。。。 of a man who survived the horrors of the Holocaust, of a man who calls himself the happiest man on earth, of a centenarian who shares his story, has been married for 74 years and continues to inspire others to be kind, the share happiness and to make the world a better place。if you need a bit more encouragement to read the book, check out this article:https://www。smh。com。au/culture/books/。。。 。。。more
