Your ultimate one-stop networking reference

Designed to replace that groaning shelf-load of dull networking books you'd otherwise have to buy and house, Networking All-in-One For Dummies covers all the basic and not-so-basic information you need to get a network up and running。 It also helps you keep it running as it grows more complicated, develops bugs, and encounters all the fun sorts of trouble you expect from a complex system。 Ideal both as a starter for newbie administrators and as a handy quick reference for pros, this book is built for speed, allowing you to get past all the basics--like installing and configuring hardware and software, planning your network design, and managing cloud services--so you can get on with what your network is actually intended to do。

In a friendly, jargon-free style, Doug Lowe--an experienced IT Director and prolific tech author--covers the essential, up-to-date information for networking in systems such as Linux and Windows 10 and clues you in on best practices for security, mobile, and more。 Each of the nine minibooks demystifies the basics of one key area of network management。

Getting started in the world of networking can be possible with this simple guide book, Networking All-in-One For Dummies。 It's so easy to use and understand If one isn't at all familiar with the entire process which is involved。 From one server to another, sharing data back and forth, managing a network(s), cybersecurity, window server usage, protocols, and much more is what you will get by reading this huge book。It's practically everything from computers from devices and setup to the process w Getting started in the world of networking can be possible with this simple guide book, Networking All-in-One For Dummies。 It's so easy to use and understand If one isn't at all familiar with the entire process which is involved。 From one server to another, sharing data back and forth, managing a network(s), cybersecurity, window server usage, protocols, and much more is what you will get by reading this huge book。It's practically everything from computers from devices and setup to the process which goes on with the internet, using different servers, and the data that is tethered between different computers and locations。 Of course, cybersecurity is something I see that any good computer book would include a topic on because it deals with those who like to swim between the lines and leech onto anything that is starting up or available for them to steal from。 Of course for this book, don't think it's gonna be a simple read, possibly a weeklong read or more if you want to spend hours straight through。 Since it's fully detailed and covers 10 different books, basically everything you need to know to understand networking from beginning to end, it will take some time to comprehend each section。 However, it's so worth having this resource, an up-to-date book on networking for beginners and those who have some knowledge already and want to perfect what they know。 Plus, being a book that is more down-to-earth, it's a much easier book to absorb the material the first time through than a complicated text guide。Sometimes it might seem useless after a year passes or sometimes and a new server or windows and version of the internet comes out。 Throwing the old material to download out the window。 However, even with that normal occurrence, and it happens on a regular basis。 This book can still be quite valuable when it comes to figuring out the steps one needs to take to download any recent program and what to look for when working with the entire networking protocol as well as security。 Many still stay useful no matter what year or time of the day it might be。 Lastly, if it's the purpose of becoming an expert or taking on some new job position that requires a bit more connecting knowledge for a company or small business, well this is the book to own! However, it works for everyone, even those that work on a computer and program on a daily basis。 It's all necessary and perfectly explained material with great examples for curious minds, like me。 I think this book is a great one to own and will help even the hardest mind that can't grasp certain topics with ease。 "I have been given a free copy in exchange for my honest opinion" 。。。more

You will read everything you need to know about networks to say wow and even more up to the point when you say okay this is cool but why should I care? This happens when you are new to the topic and you face too much details than you really need。If you're a programmer or a network habits/specialist, then this book will give you the big picture and enough details to get up and running on your own field。I'm not aware of other network books, but I'm giving this a 4 start because of some over simplif You will read everything you need to know about networks to say wow and even more up to the point when you say okay this is cool but why should I care? This happens when you are new to the topic and you face too much details than you really need。If you're a programmer or a network habits/specialist, then this book will give you the big picture and enough details to get up and running on your own field。I'm not aware of other network books, but I'm giving this a 4 start because of some over simplification when the topic doesn't need one, and some over explanation when brevity was required。 。。。more

Not really for Dummies I read the complete book but I'm not sure I am much ahead。Good for reference。 The part for Linux could be a seperate book。 A part on networking copiers would have been nice。 Not really for Dummies I read the complete book but I'm not sure I am much ahead。Good for reference。 The part for Linux could be a seperate book。 A part on networking copiers would have been nice。 。。。more

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the fundamentals of networking and/or to an individual who is responsible for network management。It is an expansive work discussing the multiple applications and programs that one might encounter or utilize in their own network。 The concepts discussed are in many instances quite basic。 But every section appears to include tidbits that are valuable and often not considered or forgotten over a period of time。 There are several examples with scree I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the fundamentals of networking and/or to an individual who is responsible for network management。It is an expansive work discussing the multiple applications and programs that one might encounter or utilize in their own network。 The concepts discussed are in many instances quite basic。 But every section appears to include tidbits that are valuable and often not considered or forgotten over a period of time。 There are several examples with screenshots directing the reader through a step-by-step installment。 I have never found these to be particularly useful in that in most cases the screen shot shown in the book or u-tube is not the screen shot I pull up。 However, the author provides useful suggestions that on might use in setting up the application。 。。。more

Nice intro to networking。 Topics are geared to Windoz, not to much on unix/Linux os。

The first pages of this book cautioned not to read it all the way through, but here's the thing: I don't like being told what to do。 So, this behemoth is the only book I've read this entire month, but I've sure read it! And did actually learn a lot, and know what topics I want to explore further in other books as well。 The first pages of this book cautioned not to read it all the way through, but here's the thing: I don't like being told what to do。 So, this behemoth is the only book I've read this entire month, but I've sure read it! If you’re a dummy like me that didn’t take a networking course and can’t figure out CIDR notation, this will get you quickly up to speed。 It comprises of 9 mini books of about a 100 pages each, but I only found the first 3 mini books particularly useful for getting the fundamentals。 The rest were basically screenshot tutorials with common sense advice thrown in。

The early modules provide a solid overview of the theoretical background behind topics, but the later ones are a mixed bag。 The module on cloud computing is very weak--someone reading a book on networking doesn't really need to be introduced to Dropbox as a service, and there's no discussion of *aaS。 The module on Linux feels tacked on and forced, as the author is obviously writing to a Windows-userland audience, but felt compelled to at least give a passing mention of Apache。 If you are in Wind The early modules provide a solid overview of the theoretical background behind topics, but the later ones are a mixed bag。 The module on cloud computing is very weak--someone reading a book on networking doesn't really need to be introduced to Dropbox as a service, and there's no discussion of *aaS。 The module on Linux feels tacked on and forced, as the author is obviously writing to a Windows-userland audience, but felt compelled to at least give a passing mention of Apache。 If you are in Windows userland, there are some strong modules and excellent content here for that; but as that's not me, I found those significant portions of the book to be superfluous for my purposes。Still, the early modules do provide an excellent general-knowledge and theoretical background of networking principles for someone, like me, who's new to them。 。。。more

This was a good overview of a huge topic。 I'm using it to get ready for the Network+ certification exam, and I think it provided me with a good depth-of-field check。 Pretty easy reading, and filled with solid information。 Some of it's a little fluffy with screen shots, but that's not all bad, if you haven't encountered the program very often。This would be a good reference to have at your desk as a tech or network admin。 Basic for some, it does have a lot of crunchy bits。 I'm glad I burned throug This was a good overview of a huge topic。 I'm using it to get ready for the Network+ certification exam, and I think it provided me with a good depth-of-field check。 Pretty easy reading, and filled with solid information。 Some of it's a little fluffy with screen shots, but that's not all bad, if you haven't encountered the program very often。This would be a good reference to have at your desk as a tech or network admin。 Basic for some, it does have a lot of crunchy bits。 I'm glad I burned through it。 Note that the All-In-One book, to me, is a lot better than the standard Networking for Dummies。 It cuts down on the utter basics and gets to the important stuff about a litany of topics。Recommended for people in the early phases of studying for Network+, any of the Microsoft server certs, or for people about to embark upon real-world networking。 。。。more

I learned just enough to be dangerous。 I have a very high tech network infrastructure and this helped me to know what my staff are talking about, at least a little bit。

Literally, this is one of my textbooks for graduate school。 It's uber-informative, albeit a bit dry sometimes。 However, I think it'll serve as a good reference for the future once the class is over! When the network is down, or not up yet, and you can't find the appropriate reference material via the computer or network 。 。 。This is a d***** handy book to have on the shelf!
