I always love books when I intimately know the setting and this one had a surprise for me。 The final destination for this band of travelers is the Greenbriar in West Virginia。 To get there they must cross the New River Gorge which we used to visit every year to go whitewater rafting。 That this would be the area that would be most geographically safe made perfect sense to me。 It is like no other location in the lower 48 states， absolutely geologically unique。
