Summary

In the newest Argeneau novel from author Lynsay Sands, an immortal barely escapes a raging fire only to kindle a sizzling passion with his potential life mate。

Mac Argeneau knows all too well: immortals can be killed。 Not with holy water or silver crosses, but by decapitation or being set on fire。 So when Mac’s house bursts into flames—with him inside—he’s sure it was no accident。 But who would want to kill a scientist specializing in hematology? There is a silver lining: a blonde investigator appears on the scene and sparks feelings in him that have been dormant for centuries。

CJ Cummings is in town on a special investigation, but she’s been waylaid by the local police to deal with this arson case。 The biggest mystery is how this sexy scientist with silvery blue eyes has emerged from a blazing inferno without a burn mark on him。 He’s clearly hiding something。 Sure, she’d love to see him without his lab coat, but she’s got a job to do—despite his insistence that he needs a bodyguard and。。。he wants her

But when a second attempt on their lives puts CJ in harm’s way, it’s Mac who will do anything to safeguard the woman who’s destined to be his life mate。

Good as usualThis author handles the interaction between immortals and humans with a deft touch。 This novel just shows how human the immortals are

This book felt fairly formulaic。 The characters of Mac and CJ had promise, but they and the plot line weren’t really developed to their fullest。

Debbie

Mac moves from New York to the quiet of a small town in Canada but an accident puts him in the path of police investigator CJ, but when they are targeted and escape death they find that maybe they have feelings for each other。

There is something oh, so addictive about the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands。 It’s one I’ve been reading for years and after reading this 32nd — yes, 32nd — installment, my fingers are itching for a full series re-read。 When Mac Argeneau is trapped in his burning house, it should be his worst day ever。 And it is — until his meets the woman helping to investigate the blaze and he can’t read her 。 。 。 meaning he’s just met his life mate。After taking a break from reading these books for a couple o There is something oh, so addictive about the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands。 It’s one I’ve been reading for years and after reading this 32nd — yes, 32nd — installment, my fingers are itching for a full series re-read。 When Mac Argeneau is trapped in his burning house, it should be his worst day ever。 And it is — until his meets the woman helping to investigate the blaze and he can’t read her 。 。 。 meaning he’s just met his life mate。After taking a break from reading these books for a couple of years, it was incredibly fun to dive back and in and check in with the Argeneaus。 This series is simple, easy fun—a bloody good time, to be honest。 Even if you haven't read the others, you can dive in here, or anywhere that appeals, as this series is written to interconnect but doesn't overwhelm readers with backstory。 Mac and CJ (you'll never guess what that stands for!) are fun together—lots of push/pull—and CJ is a nice, strong heroine。 Definitely one to devour when you have time to relax! 。。。more

Loved it!This was the Mac and CJ 's story。 Mac's house he was renting burns with him in it。 CJ is investigating a police officer accused of beating people。 The question is, who is doing the protecting。 I love this series and I loved this story。 I would recommend any book written by Lynsay Sands, she's an amazing author。 Loved it!This was the Mac and CJ 's story。 Mac's house he was renting burns with him in it。 CJ is investigating a police officer accused of beating people。 The question is, who is doing the protecting。 I love this series and I loved this story。 I would recommend any book written by Lynsay Sands, she's an amazing author。 。。。more

Sands does it againI loved this book。 I love how each of the characters in past books of the series show up to help out。

Samuel

While the world Lynsay Sands has built remains interesting, this felt more like a fan service novella for side character(s), or like filler between story arks, than anything that actually moved the series forward as a whole。

Beverly

If this is the best that she can do, she needs to end the series

Mac Argeneau is a hematologist who works from home。 He is setting up his lab in the basement of the house he is renting, when he smells smoke。 He opens the door to the basement and realizes the house has become an inferno with him stuck inside。 Being an immortal, Mac knows fire is one of the ways to kill him。 But who would want to kill a hematologist? Mac sees the firemen outside his basement window, and signals them by throwing his microscope through the window。 He thinks fast, fills the claw-foot bathtub with water, submerged himself into it, and waits to be rescued。CJ Cummings is in the town of Sandford to investigate a policeman。 She gets roped into handling the arson case because the sheriff doesn't have a detective。 CJ determines that the house was set on fire on purpose。 What she can't explain is how Mac Argeneau survived the fire? Officer Jefferson said Mr。 Argeneau has blisters from the water he'd submerged in practically boiling him alive。 Yet, there are neither blisters or burns on Mac。 There is clearly something strange going on here。Mac knows in a matter of moments that CJ is his life mate。 But how to stay close to her until he can convince her of this fact? She can be his bodyguard。 Now to make her believe he needs one。 Sands' novels flow effortlessly from start to finish。 The reader is submersed into the story and the convincing world building is expertly executed。 The characters are fleshed-out; even the secondary characters play a vital role in the plot。 Having Marguerite and Julius Notte, and Decker and Bricker involved in the story from previous novels, made the substance of the plot more believable。 Mac and CJ's romance is a sizzling five on a scale of one to five。 I feel the sex scenes are for adult readers only。 In Lynsay Sands' novels, there is humor and this one is not an exception to this rule。 One of her characters has HIV。 Sands handles the condition delicately, but also adds touches of humor。 I believe this is the 31st novel in the Argeneau series。 Every one I've read has been fresh and holds a special place in my heart。 I look forward to reading her next novel in the series。 。。。more

So I have read a couple of the later books in this series, and this, like the others I have read was a really enjoyable read。 Mac Arganeau has just moved to Sandford, and is busy setting up his haematology lab in his basement, when he realises the house is on fire。 When he is rescued he meets a SIU police investigator CJ Cummings, in town to interview a police officer, after a young man he severely injured makes a complaint。 She has been roped in to help with the fire, as the police chief is sho So I have read a couple of the later books in this series, and this, like the others I have read was a really enjoyable read。 Mac Arganeau has just moved to Sandford, and is busy setting up his haematology lab in his basement, when he realises the house is on fire。 When he is rescued he meets a SIU police investigator CJ Cummings, in town to interview a police officer, after a young man he severely injured makes a complaint。 She has been roped in to help with the fire, as the police chief is short staffed, and Mac, despite being badly injured, immediately realises she is his life mate。 He then has to wipe the minds of many other humans to ensure he can stay close to her。 When his family and bodyguards turn up, they are all in on the plan for Mac to woo the self possessed, and mysterious CJ。 Closed off to a relationship due to her past CJ is finding it hard to not be distracted by Mac’s extreme hotness, despite his geeky job。 As they deal with a missing police officer, a bunch of angry towns people and a deliberate arson attempt, Can they give into their attraction, and when is Mac going to tell her he is immortal? So Mac was an adorable character, poleaxed by his attraction to CJ, and desperate for her to feel the same pull as he did。 CJ resisted just enough to show she was no pushover, and took a leap of faith to confess her vulnerability。Sweet romance and interesting sub plot。I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own。 。。。more

Well, this was definitely an exciting installment to the series! Mac's house is set on fire & HE'S IN IT! The way he avoids turning into a crispy critter is inventive but painful。 CJ gets roped into "guarding his body" after a spate of events pulls all the town's police force in other directions。 She is not pleased。 LOL CJ is doing her best to punt Mac off to the police's protective custody, and Mac - who has realized she is a potential life mate - is doing his best to keep her by his side。 Spoi Well, this was definitely an exciting installment to the series! I also really loved both Mac & CJ。 They click well together (of course!) & although I felt like we learned more about CJ's life & backstory than Mac's, it was a very enjoyable read!!: ) 。。。more
