Summary

Inheritance is the first in The Lost Bride Trilogy by #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts―a tale of tragedies, loves found and lost, and a family haunted for generations。

1806: Astrid Poole sits in her bridal clothes, overwhelmed with happiness。 But before her marriage can be consummated, she is murdered, and the circle of gold torn from her finger。 Her last words are a promise to Collin never to leave him…

Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about―and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in it for at least three years。 Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth―and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light。

Trey, the young lawyer who greets her at the sprawling clifftop manor, notes Sonya’s unease―and acknowledges that yes, the place is haunted…but just a little。 Sure enough, Sonya finds objects moved and music playing out of nowhere。 She sees a painting by her father inexplicably hanging in her deceased uncle’s office, and a portrait of a woman named Astrid, whom the lawyer refers to as “the first lost bride。” It’s becoming clear that Sonya has inherited far more than a house。 She has inherited a centuries-old curse, and a puzzle to be solved if there is any hope of breaking it…

Inheritance by Nora Roberts is Book #1 in The Lost Bride Trilogy!Sonya MacTavish recently made several changes in her life。 A break-up with her fiancé started the ball rolling, but she didn't stop there。 She quit her job, opened her own Graphics design business, and moved from Boston to the Maine coast。 It didn't all happen at once, but it sure felt like it。 Sonya believed the sight of finding her cheating fiancé in bed with her cousin was the biggest shock she'd ever have, but it wasn't。 It was Inheritance by Nora Roberts is Book #1 in The Lost Bride Trilogy!Sonya MacTavish recently made several changes in her life。 A break-up with her fiancé started the ball rolling, but she didn't stop there。 She quit her job, opened her own Graphics design business, and moved from Boston to the Maine coast。 It didn't all happen at once, but it sure felt like it。 Sonya believed the sight of finding her cheating fiancé in bed with her cousin was the biggest shock she'd ever have, but it wasn't。 It was learning her late father had a twin he never knew about and finding herself as the heir to most of the estate of her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole。 Sonya learned her uncle's estate included a beautiful Victorian mansion, that according to the will, she must reside in for three years to receive her inheritance, hence the move to Poole's Bay, Maine。 Trey, a young lawyer, greeted Sonya upon her arrival, gave her a tour of the mansion, and confirmed that yes, the house is indeed haunted。 But only a little。。。Inheritance is my first Nora Roberts read and its steeped in family history, secrets from the past to unravel, and a variety of entertaining ghosts in varying ages and levels of temperament, some are seen, most are not。 The pace is fast, holding my interest with a mixture of characters that complement each other right down to Sonya's best friend Cleo, and "The Boys", two adorable rescue dogs who are also besties。 I loved that。I found Nora Roberts easy writing style to be addictive and fluid, and an easy listen。 The 13H 52M audiobook goes by quickly with Brittany Pressley's excellent voicing skills。 Another stellar narration!I don't know if I was expecting a cliffhanger but there it was and it's quite good。 I'll be listening to the second book in The Lost Bride Trilogy and I highly recommend Inheritance to readers who enjoy a well-written haunted house story with entertaining characters, both alive and dead! 4⭐Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Nora Roberts for an ALC of this book。 It has been an honor to give my honest and voluntary review。 Due to publish on 11/21/23。 。。。more

The first book in a new trilogy from best selling author Nora Roberts。 I sat spellbound and on the edge of my seat。 The book starts simply enough with Sonya MacTavish inheriting a historic Victorian house on the Coast of Maine。 There is family connection that I’ll let the book explain but she must stay three years for it to be fully hers。 Of course it comes with ghosts。 Some ghosts I’d love to welcome to my home but the evil woman in black keeps you wondering what will happen next。 Along with he The first book in a new trilogy from best selling author Nora Roberts。 I sat spellbound and on the edge of my seat。 The book starts simply enough with Sonya MacTavish inheriting a historic Victorian house on the Coast of Maine。 There is family connection that I’ll let the book explain but she must stay three years for it to be fully hers。 Of course it comes with ghosts。 Some ghosts I’d love to welcome to my home but the evil woman in black keeps you wondering what will happen next。 Along with her comes a legend about a bride from every generation dying on their wedding day。Side characters are great。 Yoda, her adopted dog, Trey, a lawyer and love interest, his cousin Owen and her best friend Cleo are there to be her own Scooby Doo gang。 Roberts writes wonderful friend speak and loving banter。 I wish people could really say as much with as little words。 Her writing and storytelling drew me further and further into the story。 My only complaint is that I have to wait for the release of the next book to continue from the cliff hanging ending。 I highly recommend this new trilogy。 Thank you to st。 Martin’s Press for the ARC via NetGalley and I’m leaving a voluntary review。 。。。more

Inheritance is best-selling romance author Nora Roberts’ first book in The Lost Bride Trilogy。 It’s categorized as Science Fiction/Fantasy, but I would call it Romantic Suspense with supernatural elements。 Roberts has a distinctive writing voice, and this story is more action-oriented than character development。 While the main story is told in chronological order, some chapters go back in history to introduce the “lost brides”。Inheritance begins in 1806 with newly married Astrid Grandville Poole Inheritance is best-selling romance author Nora Roberts’ first book in The Lost Bride Trilogy。 It’s categorized as Science Fiction/Fantasy, but I would call it Romantic Suspense with supernatural elements。 Roberts has a distinctive writing voice, and this story is more action-oriented than character development。 While the main story is told in chronological order, some chapters go back in history to introduce the “lost brides”。Inheritance begins in 1806 with newly married Astrid Grandville Poole sitting in her bridal dress during the reception, anticipating her wedding night。 Within moments she is stabbed to death, and her wedding band is removed from her finger。 Her last words are a promise to her beloved bridegroom, Collin, to never leave him。The second chapter introduces 28-year-old graphic designer Sonya MacTavish, an unhappily engaged woman living in Boston。 When she discovers her fiancé in bed with her cousin, she makes changes in her life。 A few months later she is shocked when a Maine attorney informs her that her late artist father had a twin brother he never knew about, and she has a nice inheritance from this newly deceased uncle。 The condition for her to accept the generous inheritance is that she must live at the family estate in Poole’s Bay, Maine for a minimum of three years。 Sonya’s mom and ride-or-die best friend, Cleo, urge her to do a trial for three months at the estate。 Sonya really wants to investigate why the boys were separated at birth and not told of each other’s existence。When Sonya arrives at the ancestral home, she meets the handsome son of her uncle’s attorney, Oliver Doyle Jr。 Sonya immediately likes Oliver “Trey” Doyle III, and he gives her a tour of the mansion。 He tells her that the place is haunted。 Within a few days Sonya finds objects moved, her bed made, and music spontaneously playing from her iPad but she puts it down to exhaustion。 She is busy working on a project for Trey’s potter sister, Anna。 Soon Sonya realizes that she has inherited a centuries-old curse along with the beautiful old house。 From the moment that Sonya meets Mr。 Doyle Jr。, the reader hopes that he has a son around Sonya’s age。 There is never any doubt that Sonya and Trey will fall in love。 Then the reader wants to put their best friends, Cleo and Owen, together。 Of course the reader wants justice for the “lost brides” and Collin and his twin being separated at birth。 One important note for potential readers: Inheritance ends without a conclusion so a reader has to wait on the sequel to get their happily-ever-after。I really enjoyed reading Inheritance although I’m not a fan of ghost stories。 Sonya was a likeable and engaging heroine, and I really liked her relationships with both her mom and Cleo。 I think her ex-fiancé, Brandon, got off too easily for his misdeeds。 Trey is the perfect hero, and I admired both his professional skills and his relationships with his parents and best friend, Owen Poole。 While this story is at heart a romance, it’s also a celebration of family and friendships。 I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily。 。。。more

Thank you St。 Martin’s Press, #partner, for the advanced copy of Inheritance in exchange for my honest review。I have been a fan of Nora Roberts for as long as I can remember, and while I have lately only been reading her stand-alone romantic suspense novels, I couldn’t resist requesting this one。 This is the Nora Roberts I remember from years ago and I loved it…everything except that cliffhanger – but we’ll get to that in a minute。This is the start of Nora Robert’s new Lost Bride trilogy and wha Thank you St。 Martin’s Press, #partner, for the advanced copy of Inheritance in exchange for my honest review。I have been a fan of Nora Roberts for as long as I can remember, and while I have lately only been reading her stand-alone romantic suspense novels, I couldn’t resist requesting this one。 This is the Nora Roberts I remember from years ago and I loved it…everything except that cliffhanger – but we’ll get to that in a minute。This is the start of Nora Robert’s new Lost Bride trilogy and what an amazing start it is off to。 It completely pulled me in from the beginning, sweeping me up in the world that only she is able to build。 We have a mix of gothic vibes, a mystery and of course some romance and I could not be more invested in what is going on。 Moving back and forth in time, we slowly get the history of the brides and what has happened to them, and I am loving that。 The way this is being told to us, coming to Sonya, our main character in the present day, through dreams, is so fun, and while I don’t really tend to love the fantasy/paranormal elements that much, here it is completely working for me。 Maybe because there is a mystery element to it, maybe because there is the gothic vibe, I’m not sure but I want more and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment in this trilogy, especially with the way this book ended…I mentioned there was that cliffhanger and this one was such a doozy! I totally didn’t see it coming and while it is shocking, it completely works for what has happened already。I absolutely loved this one and will be counting the days until I can get my hands on the next installment of this trilogy。 I need to know what this curse is that has haunted this house Sonya has inherited and I want more of these characters that I have already fallen in love with! And I suggest you give this one a try because I think you will love it, too!You can see all my reviews at: https://www。alwayswithabook。com/ 。。。more

I love everything Nora so I knew I wanted to read this one。 This is more of a spooky gothic romance with some mystery and murder thrown in。 In typical Nora fashion, this book leaves you on a cliffhanger dying to read the next book。 I absolutely loved the characters and the storyline, and it kept me wanting to keep reading to see what happens。

Of course, she calls off the wedding and throws the fiance out of her Boston home。Shortly after Sonya receives shocking news that her late father had a twin brother who recently passed away and that she's the heir to his mansion in Maine。 The Lost Bride Trilogy will appeal to fans of gothic haunted houses, low-steam romance, family curses and secrets, whodunit mystery, and dual timeline paranormal fantasy。 This is not spooky (yet) and I get many feel-good vibes from Sonya's BFF Cleo, the lawyer love interest, invisible residents of the mansion, and other secondary characters。 This is almost five stars for me but the romance part got on too quickly without much chemistry or tension。 I also find that things fall into places too conveniently for Sonya。 I'd like to see some flaws and setbacks。That being said, I am hooked from the first to the very last page。 Do expect a massive cliffhanger ending that'll make you wish you wouldn't need to wait another year。 Gaaah! Sonya must move to Maine and live in the house for three years to collect all the goods。 Who would turn that down? There is only one little hitch: the mansion is seriously haunted…。as in talking ghost haunted。 There is a back story about a terrible jealous woman from the 1800s who murdered one bride and placed a curse on any bride in the house forever。 When Sonya meets Trey, her attorney’s legal eagle son, fireworks commence, and he starts to help her fix her ghastly or ghostly issues。 He’s grown up in the small Maine town, and Trey knows about the mansion’s curse。 Of course, Sonja and Trey become romantic, and then…the book ends。 I kept looking further to see if I missed something, but nope, it’s a three-part storyline, and I'm waiting to find out what happens to Sonya, who made a daring decision on the last page。 OMG。 I am a big fan of Nora Roberts novels, and I especially like her romantic love stories, but this is more of a science fiction, paranormal fiction。 I was not expecting that。 I’m a wee bit bummed to be left out in the cold at the end of the story, but we will all have to wait to see what transpires in Part Two。 #ghost #friends #family #cold #death #life #love #future #rich #opportunity #puzzles #thingsThatGoBumpInTheNight #secludedMansion #ocean #TheInheritance @norarobertsauthor #paranormal #curse #hex #maine @stmartinspress @netgalley🌊I received a complimentary copy of this ARC。 The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own。 Thank you to St。 Martin’s Press and the author for the opportunity to read this novel。 Pub。 Date: November 21, 2023。🌊#book #books #bookAddict #BooksOfInstagram #bookstagram #bookstagramer #bookshelf #reader #booklove #bookreader #reader #reviewer 。。。more

The wait is going to be too long for books 2 and 3。There is, as always, a great cast of characters。 The Poole family, Sonya's best friend Cleo, her Mom Winter, Trey, and Oliver。 There is also a small village full of great characters too。 But make no mistake, the true main character of this story is Lost Bride Manor。 It is a true haunted house, and Nora Roberts utilizes its size, corners, and rooms for maximum spookiness。 I am not easily scared, and this book is unsettling in all of the best ways。 There is so much more that I want to talk about here, but no spoilers allowed。 This story is immersive, and you feel every feeling each character describes。 This is a start to a wonderful new trilogy。 Nora Robert delivers every time。Thank you to NetGalley and St。 Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this book。 Thank you also to Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version as well - the narrator is incredible。 This book releases on November 21st - pick it up! 。。。more

Inheritance by Nora Roberts is the first book in The Lost Bride TrilogyI'm an on and off fan of Ms。 Roberts and this book is an excellent start to a trilogy。 I normally like to wait for the entire series to be out when we know it's going to be a connected trilogy like this because the waiting just sucks。 But it's too late now, and the additional books don't even have publishing dates, big sighs。This is a story of finding your place and connections to the past。 Uncovering family secrets and stren Inheritance by Nora Roberts is the first book in The Lost Bride TrilogyI'm an on and off fan of Ms。 Roberts and this book is an excellent start to a trilogy。 I normally like to wait for the entire series to be out when we know it's going to be a connected trilogy like this because the waiting just sucks。 But it's too late now, and the additional books don't even have publishing dates, big sighs。This is a story of finding your place and connections to the past。 Uncovering family secrets and strength from those you love。 There is a haunted manor house, a two hundred year old curse, and the determination of one woman to find the answers。 It's a very interesting juxtaposition taking the very level-headed Sonya and putting her in the middle of a Gothic novel of the lost brides。 Hold onto your suits cause things go bump in the night at the witching hour, and you're going to need to stay sharp for the journey。 。。。more

Nora Roberts has been one of the authors who either is hit or miss with my reading。 I love many of her books。 I wasn't sure where this one would fall。 Happily this one is a hit。 While it didn't grab me at the beginning, I was pleasantly surprised to find the story intriguing enough to continue。 Sonya MacTavish is stunned to find she has inherited a Victorian Mansion on a Maine coast from an Uncle she never knew she。 It seems her father may not have known he had a brother either。 Her life at a cr Nora Roberts has been one of the authors who either is hit or miss with my reading。 I love many of her books。 I wasn't sure where this one would fall。 Happily this one is a hit。 While it didn't grab me at the beginning, I was pleasantly surprised to find the story intriguing enough to continue。 Sonya MacTavish is stunned to find she has inherited a Victorian Mansion on a Maine coast from an Uncle she never knew she。 It seems her father may not have known he had a brother either。 Her life at a cross roads, Sonya decides a fresh start and a delve into her past might just be the ticket。 When she arrives there, things are not as they seem。 The mansion maybe a wee bit haunted。 What is disturbing is that while some ghosts are there to help, one seems to be only there for hurting。 Will Sonya be able to find out the truth behind the long ago murders? I love the characters within the story。 The story did a great job of giving a solid foundation to the past and what lead us to where we are today。 I look forward to the second book。 I received a copy through Netgalley。 A review was not required。 。。。more

I need the next book and I need it now。 Nora Roberts is the Queen of trilogies, and I don’t think this one is going to disappoint based on this first book in the series。 Inheritance is everything you could hope for in a book。 You have a giant haunted manor with nice ghosts and an evil one。 You have Sonya, who inherited this manor, who has moved in and is learning to deal with the ghosts。 Trey, Cleo, Owen, and all the other characters are great。 I really can’t wait to read the next one。 Just hate I need the next book and I need it now。 Nora Roberts is the Queen of trilogies, and I don’t think this one is going to disappoint based on this first book in the series。 Inheritance is everything you could hope for in a book。 You have a giant haunted manor with nice ghosts and an evil one。 You have Sonya, who inherited this manor, who has moved in and is learning to deal with the ghosts。 Trey, Cleo, Owen, and all the other characters are great。 I really can’t wait to read the next one。 Just hate I have to wait a year。 Highly recommend!!Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for advanced copy, and I give my review freely 。。。more

I was hooked, and sad when the book ended。 There was never really a dull or boring part of the book。 I loved how though out the story it would flash back to one of the brides that died in the manor and how Sonya would see and experience what was going on。 It built up the mystery as to why they were dying and why their rings were being taken by the witch that cursed the house。 I loved this book and I can not wait to continue reading this trilogy。 The mystery the suspense and the slow burn love st I was hooked, and sad when the book ended。 There was never really a dull or boring part of the book。 I loved how though out the story it would flash back to one of the brides that died in the manor and how Sonya would see and experience what was going on。 It built up the mystery as to why they were dying and why their rings were being taken by the witch that cursed the house。 I loved this book and I can not wait to continue reading this trilogy。 The mystery the suspense and the slow burn love story。 。。。more

What would you do if you unexpectedly inherited a haunted house, complete with vengeful spirit, benevolent ghosts, and a centuries-old curse? It’s a bit wild to be gaslighted in your own home by ghosts, but Sonya took it all in stride and made peace with her inheritance。 The plot with the curse and the ghosts was chilling and utterly captivating。 I particularly enjoyed the flashbacks to the past。 The ghostly activity got quite scary at one point and if this was a movie, I wouldn’t be watching What would you do if you unexpectedly inherited a haunted house, complete with vengeful spirit, benevolent ghosts, and a centuries-old curse? It’s a bit wild to be gaslighted in your own home by ghosts, but Sonya took it all in stride and made peace with her inheritance。 The plot with the curse and the ghosts was chilling and utterly captivating。 I particularly enjoyed the flashbacks to the past。 The ghostly activity got quite scary at one point and if this was a movie, I wouldn’t be watching it。 I wouldn’t call this horror, but definitely hair-raising。Sonya was a bit generic, in that it was difficult to define her personality other than she’s hardworking, resilient, and pleasant。 I really liked Trey and especially Chloe, who was a very colourful character。 Sonya and Trey fit well together, but between them meeting and becoming involved, I felt like there was some chemistry missing。 I hate cliffhangers and this one left me breathless and a bit bereft。 I definitely want to finish this trilogy。 Oh, does that mean I will have to survive one more tense non-ending?This is the book for you if you like ghosts and thrilling suspense。 Many thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

This is a great read, I definitely had a hard time putting this book down。 Nora Roberts reminds us why we love her books with this one。 I will be counting down until the next in the series comes out。 It has such great characters - the people and the ghosts。 It can get spooky at times, but not enough to make me stop reading it at night and I’m a scaredy cat when it comes to haunted things。 It has a great friendship with the main character Sonya and her best friend Cleo。 I love it when an author g This is a great read, I definitely had a hard time putting this book down。 Nora Roberts reminds us why we love her books with this one。 I will be counting down until the next in the series comes out。 It has such great characters - the people and the ghosts。 It can get spooky at times, but not enough to make me stop reading it at night and I’m a scaredy cat when it comes to haunted things。 It has a great friendship with the main character Sonya and her best friend Cleo。 I love it when an author gives solid friendships to female characters, so many authors don't realize that we love to read about strong friendships as much as we do a romance。 They are really fun to hang out with。 It has and equally great slow moving romance with Sonya and Trey。 You should definitely pick this one up to read。 。。。more

This story had me from the beginning。 Sonya and Cleo are great。 Sonya has a problem; Cleo is right there for her。 When Sonya walks in to find her fiancée with her cousin, she has had enough。 She was planning a wedding that wasn't what she wanted, she was planning to buy a house that she didn't want, and this was the last straw。 Then a man shows up at her door telling her that her father had a twin brother that the family didn't know about, and they she has inherited a house in Maine。 It is exact This story had me from the beginning。 Sonya and Cleo are great。 Sonya has a problem; Cleo is right there for her。 When Sonya walks in to find her fiancée with her cousin, she has had enough。 She was planning a wedding that wasn't what she wanted, she was planning to buy a house that she didn't want, and this was the last straw。 Then a man shows up at her door telling her that her father had a twin brother that the family didn't know about, and they she has inherited a house in Maine。 It is exactly the kind of house that she has always wanted only much larger than she expected。 The only problem with it is that it is haunted。 I think it would be great to have a ghost that cleans the house。 Most of the entities are nice, but there is one that very malevolent。 Sonya, Cleo, Trey and Owen are trying to figure out how to break a curse that an evil woman put on the women of Sonya's family。 As they try to find the answers, Sonya gets caught up in some scary situations。 Her friends will be there to help her, but can they find those answers? Can't wait to see where this goes。 。。。more
