Summary

A gripping, at times painfully honest, and ultimately inspirational memoir from global superstar and creator of the Red Table Talk series Jada Pinkett Smith。  Jada Pinkett Smith was living what many would view as a fairy-tale of Hollywood success。 But appearances can be deceiving, and as she felt more and more separated from her sense of self, emotional turmoil took hold。 Sparing no detail, Worthy chronicles her life—from a rebellious youth running the Baltimore streets as an observer and participant in the drug trade, to the deep bond she shared with Tupac Shakur from the moment they met, to her move to Los Angeles and the successful career she built on her own terms, to becoming the wife of superstar Will Smith and mother to Jaden, Willow and bonus-mom to Trey 。 A rollercoaster from the depths of suicidal depression to the heights of self-acceptance and spiritual healing, Worthy is a woman’s journey to finding herself again。  In a media driven landscape that crafts narratives for our celebrities, Smith shares herself in an intimate conversation with readers。 She answers questions about her difficult childhood, her marriage, her parenting style, her career choices, and the intense scrutiny that followed “the slap。” An impactful and rare memoir that engages and educates, Worthy shows why adhering to the status quo has never been the plan for Jada Pinkett Smith and why labels and stories crafted by others strip women of their authenticity。 Worthy teaches us who Jada is, and how to embrace our most lovable qualities。 Complete with thought-provoking writing prompts and meditations on how to discover who we really are and nourish our self-worth。

This book, marked by its lukewarm tone, self-centeredness, and a noticeably distorted portrayal of reality, which the author presents as "her truth," unapologetically exalts the author's extravagant fantasies of victimization。 If you're inclined to experience a sense of gaslighting, you may consider obtaining a copy when it becomes available on discount shelves in approximately a month or so, by which time it's likely that everyone will have had their fill。 This book, marked by its lukewarm tone, self-centeredness, and a noticeably distorted portrayal of reality, which the author presents as "her truth," unapologetically exalts the author's extravagant fantasies of victimization。 If you're inclined to experience a sense of gaslighting, you may consider obtaining a copy when it becomes available on discount shelves in approximately a month or so, by which time it's likely that everyone will have had their fill。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 Jada is just another human struggling with depression, abandonment issues, and other hurtful unresolved life events。 I appreciate her honestly and reading about her experiences and how she navigated her journey。 I was able to see her struggle with being vulnerable when speaking about her trauma and not being able to deal with grief。 Everyone’s journey is different and it was interesting to read hers。

I LOVE IT… UNQUESTIONABLY!!!Jada is all of us at some point in our life— just wanting to be loved in her own special way!!! In our vitriol, we have taken lies and spewed them viciously to, in some weird way, make ourselves feel better about who we are but in this book Jada has allowed us to see it from her perspective and to be quite honest, I believe her。 Call this book what you want but I enjoyed it and I hope that the world reads it in its entirety so that they get the full picture rather than the snippets that the world wants us to see。 We don’t want to be controlled in our regular lives so imagine being a part of a machine that demands control to a wild soul… I pray that she continues to seek peace and happiness and find the love that she wholeheartedly desires。 Thank you for sharing your story with us。 💚✨ 。。。more

I'm a passionate fan of celebrity memoirs, especially when the authors narrate their own stories in audiobooks。 There's something about hearing their stories in their own voices that resonates with me。 It's no surprise that I eagerly preordered Jada's upcoming memoir last September, especially after immersing myself in Will's memoir back in January 2022。While Jada has shared glimpses of her life with the public, her new book promises a deeper dive into the world of the Smith family。 My excitemen I'm a passionate fan of celebrity memoirs, especially when the authors narrate their own stories in audiobooks。 There's something about hearing their stories in their own voices that resonates with me。 It's no surprise that I eagerly preordered Jada's upcoming memoir last September, especially after immersing myself in Will's memoir back in January 2022。While Jada has shared glimpses of her life with the public, her new book promises a deeper dive into the world of the Smith family。 My excitement surged as I listened to her drop hints during her book's press tour。 Jada's candid and deliberate storytelling adds unparalleled authenticity to her narrative。From the outset of Jada's memoir, I was captivated。 Her reflections on generational patterns within her family, the bond she formed with her grandmothers, and her resourceful upbringing provided profound insights。 Her open and genuine account of her relationship with Will was refreshing and learning about the early days of their courtship offered valuable context。 Yet, what truly gripped me were her anecdotes about her platonic friendship with Tupac。 Moreover, her portrayal of her parents' struggles with addiction deepened my comprehension。 I found her later-in-life relationship with her father particularly moving。"The Holy Slap。。。wow!!" This chapter emerges as an undoubtedly profound chapter, a testament to her personal growth and wisdom。 In summary, Jada's memoir is a genuine treasure trove, brimming with her determination, wisdom, and grace, offering an intimate glimpse into her character。 Her connection to the late bell hooks adds a deeper layer to my understanding of Jada。 It's an inspiring journey that showcases her resilience and authenticity, transcending mere words on pages or in narration – it's a captivating exploration of the life of an extraordinary yet often misunderstood woman。 。。。more

I might be in the minority here because I absolutely enjoyed this book。 I actually understand Jada a bit more。 Now I don’t know if everything was truthful however not all memoirs are。 This was an amazing read。 She expressed a lot vulnerability。 I really didn’t see why she did such a heavy rollout for this book because I think it speaks for it self。 Everything she spoke of I could literally vision。 She painted a clear picture of her life and I applaud her for that。 I know some people is going to I might be in the minority here because I absolutely enjoyed this book。 I actually understand Jada a bit more。 Now I don’t know if everything was truthful however not all memoirs are。 This was an amazing read。 She expressed a lot vulnerability。 I really didn’t see why she did such a heavy rollout for this book because I think it speaks for it self。 Everything she spoke of I could literally vision。 She painted a clear picture of her life and I applaud her for that。 I know some people is going to hate this book because of who they think she is due to her being very vocal on certain things about her life and marriage but to those who doesn’t know much about her should definitely read this book。 I was not expecting to like it this much。 It’s now one of my top reads for the year。 I no longer rate memoirs but this would be a 5/5⭐️ I highly recommend! 。。。more

I found this read satisfying and enlightening。 It sheds light on some of the events you may have saw in the media, but if you're looking for the "tea", this may not be the read for you。 Yes, she addresses their separation, her entanglement and even the slap。 But her recount isn't messy。 It's literally her version of events。 How they got to those points and the role she played in them。 I admired her honesty。 I loved her transparency。 Throughout the entire book she took accountability for her role I found this read satisfying and enlightening。 It sheds light on some of the events you may have saw in the media, but if you're looking for the "tea", this may not be the read for you。 Yes, she addresses their separation, her entanglement and even the slap。 But her recount isn't messy。 It's literally her version of events。 How they got to those points and the role she played in them。 I admired her honesty。 I loved her transparency。 Throughout the entire book she took accountability for her role in everything that had transpired。 She didn't villainize Will。 She spoke of him in the highest regard but made it clear that their partnership is for life。 Link to full review: https://www。hopefulheartbreakers。com/。。。 。。。more

I am not an especial fan of hers or her husband's, although of course I know her work from 'The Matrix' franchise, etc。 and would have likely skipped this had it not been for, yes, The Slap。 I knew she and Will Smith had been more open and public about themselves and their relationship but this wasn't celebrity gossip that compelled me (again, just not really interested either way) but realized that I did not know all that much about her。The memoir takes the reader through her early years, caree I am not an especial fan of hers or her husband's, although of course I know her work from 'The Matrix' franchise, etc。 and would have likely skipped this had it not been for, yes, The Slap。 I knew she and Will Smith had been more open and public about themselves and their relationship but this wasn't celebrity gossip that compelled me (again, just not really interested either way) but realized that I did not know all that much about her。The memoir takes the reader through her early years, career, etc。 I'd guess people would know quite a bit of her background and her upbringing, her friendship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur, her acting career, marriage to Smith, etc。 I actually did not know the details (just an outline of the basics here) so this was interesting to read。 I watched some of the conversations about her relationship/marriage to Smith, raising their two kids (plus Smith's son from a previous marriage), etc。 and yes, the Oscars, so this was actually useful in filling in some of the gaps and helped me understand some of the conversations a little better。 I particularly found the sections about her kids interesting, especially in letting them find their own paths。 Not "traditional" as JPS herself admits but also showed that what works for some might not work for others, etc。Overall, I thought the book was good in the sense of conveying her voice and experiences and it was not sanitized like other memoirs could be。 It did not really change my view of her, but I did appreciate knowing her story。 It may not necessarily draw me to a movie or show but I do think she's been quite good in several things I have seen her in and so the book also did its job in driving me either。 In terms of the writing it was not that great。 My interest in the subject kept me going and I did learn a lot but if it wasn't for the publicity (of all kinds) I would have likely skipped this one。I do think the hate is unwarranted, though, and would just urge people to stop paying attention and not read this book。 All that did was make me more sympathetic when reading and I'll be sure to buy copies to get her story out there。 Hardcore fans might like it, those casually interested might like it if you like memoirs but it's not your thing then you can just。。。skip it。Borrowed from the library and that was best for me。 。。。more

“Worthy” is a well-rounded view of Jada Pinkett Smith’s journey to find herself。 I LOVED reading her story。 I enjoyed her story for its vulnerability, and search for true happiness with oneself。 While I wouldn’t have made some of the same decisions, on the other hand, I understood her on so many levels。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 As someone who’s more of a fan of Will than Jada, this book made me feel more positive about her。I must say that the book was boring at times and I found it hard to concentrate, but the times that weren’t boring kept me on my toes about what would happen next。I enjoyed hearing her story。 I sympathize with her more。 I used to watch RTT, but stopped watching after “The Entanglement” as I found her hypocritical, but the book made me feel like she’s not as hypocritical as I accused her to be。 I feel As someone who’s more of a fan of Will than Jada, this book made me feel more positive about her。I must say that the book was boring at times and I found it hard to concentrate, but the times that weren’t boring kept me on my toes about what would happen next。I enjoyed hearing her story。 I sympathize with her more。 I used to watch RTT, but stopped watching after “The Entanglement” as I found her hypocritical, but the book made me feel like she’s not as hypocritical as I accused her to be。 I feel for her。 Understand her in a way and I learned some things that I could apply to my own life。 I’d also like to note that after reading Will’s book two years ago, reading Jada’s book filled in some of the stories Will told。 *cough cough* The Jason’s Lyric story。 It was nice to hear her side of it & I agree with her, it wasn’t funny lol。Would I read her book again like I want to reread her husbands? For so long, Jada has been made out to be the villain of the “Will & Jada” partnership。 I will admit, I also saw her as the villain because I’ve always been a fan of Will。 However, after reading her memoir, I found out she’s not a villain。 She is a misunderstood, painfully honest black woman who is trying to navigate life after so years of trying to check boxes like society tells everyone to do。 She’s creating her happiness after years of depression, trauma, and unprocessed grief。 This happiness For so long, Jada has been made out to be the villain of the “Will & Jada” partnership。 I will admit, I also saw her as the villain because I’ve always been a fan of Will。 However, after reading her memoir, I found out she’s not a villain。 She is a misunderstood, painfully honest black woman who is trying to navigate life after so years of trying to check boxes like society tells everyone to do。 She’s creating her happiness after years of depression, trauma, and unprocessed grief。 This happiness ruffles a lot of feathers because it’s “unconventional”, but she’s walking in her truth with her head held high。 I applaud her bravery and hope that other black women can do the same。 。。。more

Regardless of what you feel about Jada as a person/performer, I could take or leave her before reading her memoir, this book was written well。 I dang near highlighted half of it。 The pacing was spot on & even not being a fan, her “origin story” kept me intrigued。 Knowing only basics about her as an actress, she opened up a world of growing up in Baltimore roaming the streets as her single mom worked the night shift leaving her doing what she had to survive。 She went into her connection to Tupac Regardless of what you feel about Jada as a person/performer, I could take or leave her before reading her memoir, this book was written well。 I dang near highlighted half of it。 The pacing was spot on & even not being a fan, her “origin story” kept me intrigued。 Knowing only basics about her as an actress, she opened up a world of growing up in Baltimore roaming the streets as her single mom worked the night shift leaving her doing what she had to survive。 She went into her connection to Tupac which was so interesting to learn。 Stories of sacrifice, married life, children and unresolved trauma, help you feel connected to Jada as a woman, though our lives as women couldn’t be any more different。 Putting our spouse’s and children first and somehow losing ourselves along the way is a universal conflict that goes beyond any barriers, as women we all feel or have felt that way in our lifetime。 She got a bit “hippy dippy” with her spirituality but it didn’t overpower the reader。 Or at least not me。 I definitely finished the book with a new respect for her as a woman trying to be everything to everyone。 。。。more

This was a mess。 Way too long。 There was hope at the start of part 2 but she was unwilling to get vulnerable or craft a compelling story。 Her editor failed。 It’s fake tell all in the sense she gives tons of details on random boring shit (a spiritual trip to Vietnam) but skims over the reasons we’re here (the slap, her open marriage, her “entanglement”)。 Oh and there are self-help prompts to really just add chaos to the mediocrity。

I had to。 There was so much drama around this book I just had to know。 Reading the other reviews, it really wasn't that bad。 Isn't a memoir supposed to be about a single person? Or did everyone misunderstand what the purpose of this book would be。。。 Jada does a good job of honestly talking about her life and actually spends more time talking about perception and how she has tried to change over the years and how people have influenced her。 She rarely speaks bad about anyone, even Will she admits I had to。 There was so much drama around this book I just had to know。 Reading the other reviews, it really wasn't that bad。 Isn't a memoir supposed to be about a single person? This book truly is excellent。 Insightful, raw, vulnerable, gripping, and self-aware。 Jada Pinkett Smith opens up about every aspect of her life that’s ever been put under the microscope and she does so with far more grace than is due to the people who slander her for seemingly no reason。 The reviews that have been left before mine are ALL by people who have not even read the book because the book didn’t even release until today so pay those no mind。 They’ve all been left by people who chose to b This book truly is excellent。 Insightful, raw, vulnerable, gripping, and self-aware。 Jada Pinkett Smith opens up about every aspect of her life that’s ever been put under the microscope and she does so with far more grace than is due to the people who slander her for seemingly no reason。 The reviews that have been left before mine are ALL by people who have not even read the book because the book didn’t even release until today so pay those no mind。 They’ve all been left by people who chose to be hateful and to pre-judge a book they’ve never read all because they’re bitter misogynists, incapable of original thought, it would seem。 Sheep, all of them。 If you’ve pre-judged Jada Pinkett Smith, don’t waste our time by even leaving a review。 Especially if you’ve never read the book。 But if you’ve decided you hate her for being outspoken about her own damn life, don’t bother to even read the book。 We all know you’ll end with the same assessment that you began with if you’re the type of ignoramus who dislikes a woman for speaking about their own life。 We all know the same judgment wouldn’t be made against a man or even a white woman who chose to speak about her own life, childhood, marriage, career, children, etc。 There’s nothing offensive or problematic in this book or in any of the things she’s shared in interviews so it’s clear to see that the hatred is born of misogynoir。 。。。more
